THE CASH-LANDRUM INCIDENT - On the night of December 29, 1980 - while driving on a rural, tree-lined road near Huffman, Texas - two women and a young boy (Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and Colby Landrum) claim to have encountered a fiery, diamond-shaped UFO surrounded by (or, perhaps, being escorted by) a small fleet of military helicopters. The “water tower-sized” object was, reportedly, belching out heat and flames as it crossed in front of their path on the road - causing them to stop their vehicle out of fear for their lives. In the days, months, and years following the famous “Cash-Landrum Incident” - an encounter event that gained the attention of tabloid media, UFO TV shows, and the popular press - the trio claimed that they suffered physical effects and illnesses as a result of possible “radiation exposure.” The “victims” even unsuccessfully sued the U.S. Government/Military for damages in civil court, but were dismissed due to the lack of any proof that the Government/Military operated the “craft” or was at fault for any injuries. Betty Cash and Vickie Landrum have since passed away after a lifetime of ailments that they attributed to their roadside encounter. Colby Landrum, now an adult, still says the events of that night were true. What really happened on the road that evening - if anything - continues to remain a mystery. Was this a “real” (and dangerous) encounter with a UFO from “Elsewhere?” Or was this, perhaps, some sort of military experiment (or accident) gone horribly out of control? Or, maybe, this was all just an elaborate hoax told for gain and notoriety, as some skeptics contend? Numerous questions abound in this intriguing case, which is considered by many researchers to be one of the “Best Cases in UFO Lore.” Research into this noted case continues unto this day, with the hopes of, one day, finding answers (and holding those accountable) to the Truth behind this (maybe, “tragic”) Close Encounter.
