like can you just imagine how miserable it must be being married to this guy with absolutely nothing to show for it? HOWEVER
i do like to imagine that his conscience is starting to weigh him down at the latest by the time inquisition's set. don't get me wrong he's still a grade A selfish prick, but he's growing into someone more reliable, someone who does mourn alistair's death and recognise that he got him into this situation to begin with, someone who actually wants to get to know kieran better even though he's wary of him and morrigan, and someone who does really feel bad for being unable to give anora an heir (and it's not for a lack of trying).
him heading off to find a cure is as much an honest attempt to secure her future and safety as it is to clear his head from everything, do something good again for a change after 10 years of having his ass handed to him, and hearing of what happened at adamant will be another push for him to do better.
and it's not like he didn't do zevran dirty for a while there either with his attempt at power, which is also something he's gonna have to work through once they're off trekking around looking for a cure together
like overall i do think he does end up less of a dick to his immediate acquaintances and friends and lovers, but i STILL think alistair is entirely right in saying that no one should rely on bash, and it's sad that this will never be repeated now that alistair was left behind fighting that thing in the fade
one thing that plays really well into my hcs surrounding my warden is that everyone in thedas is praising him like he's THEIR heroical good guy, meanwhile alistair seems to be the only one across the world state who has him pegged down right.

there is absolutely no guarantee that he's going to be on anyone's side besides his own. it's always been this way. he's just very good at making it seem as if he's concerned for others.
while he does have his moments of genuine care for people around him, he'd also sell them to satan for one (1) corn chip, ya know? and actually he did, because kieran only exists because he wanted to live. andraste's ashes are only poisoned because he wanted reaving powers, meanwhile the entire world thinks he treated her remains with respect.
there's just something i really love about the one guy who he's been at his lowest with taking one single look at their shared history and letting the inquisitor know that maybe just maybe the hero of ferelden isn't someone you'd turn to for help, while everyone else is desperately trying to get him on board somehow.
i just have thoughts on how the one guy who everyone's looking to for guidance is also the guy who just abandoned all his duties and went on a chase for a cure for another selfish reason (that has nothing to do with heroism and everything to do with trying to survive long enough to make sure morrigan and kieran never get to attempt to grasp at anora's and his throne)
alistair out of all people knows sebastian the most, and hearing him say that relying on the hero of ferelden might be dangerous is just👌💯
