California Superbloom
A few years ago I flew over a superbloom at the Carrizo Plain in central California and this year I visited the same place on the ground for two completely different experiences. By air the sheer amount of color on the hills is stunning and slightly overwhelming. It is hard to take it all in, and equally hard to capture the scene in a photograph. Most of the images end up with a lot of color,…

2023 might be the year! The abundance of rain in California this winter has set the stage for a massive superbloom this spring—one that would blanket national and state parks in wildflowers (like Carrizo Plain National Monument, above, during the 2019 bloom).

To those who like this story:
Thank you. I was struggling to keep moving with my original content for a bit. Now that I’ve seen the love this brings to people, I want to make more content like this.
Seriously, thank you for liking this post.
With the arrival of Spring, comes the Super Blooms within the state of California. And for some people, going outside has become a key source of comfort when it comes to stress. Pri, being a working girl within a small store who lives in a small apartment, needed to see this sight to calm down the raging stress from her day to day living.

I unfortunately couldn’t get to Carrizo Plain National Monument at the height of its late March/early April super bloom, but plenty of wildflowers were still surging a mile up around Caliente Mountain where the cooler temperatures keep the blooms alive.
Let’s go see some flowers!
After the blooms dry up, this is what the plains become! The San Andreas fault is just out of sight directly behind me.

♡ spring, a summer baby's favorite season
super blooms @ carrizo plains // april 22, 2023
finally did a bucket list item (30 before thirty) ! after patiently waiting for the rain to come back to california for 3+ years
life notes ~
• *suddenly* got very interested in basketball over this weekend
• BEEF
• original chicken sandwich at burger king - I went to burger king 2x in 1 day and there's no regrets (also beef 👀)
• finally pulled out the cam and 50mm f/1.8 lens.. the bokeh !! (but not so great for scenic shots)
• considering a hiking spree before the state dries up
thoughts ~
• I've been valuing my privacy more & I think partly because people are scary and also partly because social media has gone kind of wild . I think from time to time that I just want to disappear from the social media space foreverr
• settling with the idea that I can't be really good @ 1 thing and not getting upset about it . what I should do is follow my brain and just drive into the thing I'm really interested in at the moment and enjoying that time vs distracting myself with failing to do this and failing to do that .

Spring!
What does spring mean to me? That’s the question posed by Sofia of Photographias in this week’s Lens-Artists Photography Challenge. For me, spring equals two things: road tripping and wildflowers. Ajo Lilies in Anza Borrego State Park This way of celebrating spring started for me when I used to work winters as a ranger in Death Valley National Park. There, I fell in love with the desert spring…
