Carribbean Bay Korea
It’s the summer season here in Korea! The girls here are all donning short skirts/shorts and comfortable clothing. It’s pretty hot I must say (the weather of course...)
Last week it was my friend’s birthday and she wanted to visit Carribean bay before she leaves in august. For anyone who wish to visit Caribbean Bay this summer, this is a mini guide for y'all!
Opening Hours:
Monday to Sunday. Timing varies from 8am to 9am. I suggest you check out their website which updates the opening hours daily. I went on a Saturday and it opens at 8am and closes at 11pm. http://www.everland.com/web/multi/english/caribbean/caribbean_guide/hours/open_hour.html
How to get there: Take a train to Gangnam Station (Green Line 2) or Jamsil Station (Green Line 2)
For Gangnam - Caribbean Bay, take the bus 5002
For Jamsil - Carribean Bay, take the bus 5700
Check out the map to see how you can get to the bus stop from the respective stations.
If you are planning to reach there by the time it opens (say 8am) then you would have to be waiting for the bus at 7am. Frequency of the bus is between 20-30mins, so be prepared to wait. You can choose to pay your bus fare by cash or by T-money card (Korea’s transportation card that you can just buy off from any convenience store)
It took me around 50mins to reach the destination. It could be more or less depending on traffic I guess? (PS: Everland & Carribean Bay are just right beside each other.)
Once you have reached the Everland stop, you would have to take a free shuttle bus that is provided to bring you to Everland/Carribean Bay itself. They are having a promotion for foreigners, you get to enjoy 50% off ticket price.
My ticket was originally 74,000 but I paid 37,000. I brought my passport along incase they needed verification but they just asked me where I was from. Anyway after 5pm if you are done with Carribean Bay you can hop over to Everland for free.
Inside Carribbean Bay you don't use cash to purchase food/snacks/drinks, instead they have a bay-coin system. You would have to purchase them in amounts of 30,000, 50,000 and 100,000. You will see the counter to purchase it when you enter Caribbean Bay. The strap looks like this and when you purchase something they scan the barcode that is on the strap.
Any amount that is not used at the end of the day can be refunded. I spent around 20,000 on snacks while queuing for the rides (more on that later). Snack bars are everywhere, EVIL!!! They serve churros, sausages, pizza roll, teriyaki chicken sticks, ice cream, corndog. Prices range from 3000won to 6000won
However, you can choose to bring your own food/snacks but you would have to deposit at food deposit area before entering Carribean Bay. Which means you would have to get out to eat and re-enter again. Inside Caribbean Bay they have restaurants that serve meals like burgers, korean/fusion food, nothing fancy and don't expect it to be fantastic too. Prices range from 7000 won and up. (I didn't have time to eat at Caribbean Bay because I spent half the time queuing)
Lockers/Shower Room: Lockers are free but you would have to pay a 500won deposit. Towels are not provided, you would have to rent them for 2000won. My experience in the ladies shower room was really weird. Firstly, everyone walks around naked and the shower rooms have no doors, just an open cubicle space. If you are shy, you just have to deal with it (like me).
Now to the rides.
I managed to only try 3 out of all of them. Mega Storm is the newest addition to the waterpark. I queued 4 hours for this and it didn't disappoint. By the way it is necessary for you to rent a life vest (6000won) in order to use the wave pool, I strongly recommend because the pool is 1.95m deep and when the waves comes it is pretty scary. (I thought I was gonna drown even with the life vest hah) If you have kids, please accompany them even though they are like 10 lifeguards at watch, you don't wanna risk do you?
I left at around 10pm after queuing for 4 hours for Mega Storm (I refused to go home without taking this ride) The free shuttle bus from Everland/Carribean Bay is at 11pm or 10.30pm, I'm not sure but I doubt any of you will be playing till that late like me. If you are going back between 6-7pm be prepared to queue for the bus back to the city and expect traffic jams.
Note: From June to end August its the summer break for all universities in Seoul. I strongly recommend you to go on weekdays, say Mon-Thurs. I went on a weekend and it was terrible, 90mins queue per ride and 4 hours for Mega Storm. I love Caribbean Bay and would definitely head back during my school break.
