the problem with taking away people's licenses is that people will continue to drive without it. I would like to also propose that all cars come with some kind of card scanner that required a valid license. a lot of people would hate this but I think it'd lessen the number of bad drivers out there

man I realize that changes in road design could make huge differences in the numbers of crashes & traffic fatalities and solely blaming people for driving badly shifts the focus away from changes that really need to be made to the way we approach driving as a society. but also. and I am not being hyperbolic at all. people are not at all conscious of how fucking dangerous driving a car is and I think if you get caught driving drunk, blowing through red lights, speeding in areas with pedestrians, you should get your license taken away for the rest of your life and never be allowed to drive again

I am still 100% on the side of "we should have less cars and more/better public transit" but as someone who lives where the public transit totally sucks and had been having to rely more on uber + friends before recently getting a license/car I'm suddenly like... I now understand the american™ addiction to cars. the level of independence and having my own little space wherever I go has me feeling like I've gained the powers of a god. I guess I'm a carpilled gasoline guzzler now or whatever they call it on tiktok.
