bio under cut for an oc boyo. - superhero clean up mans.
CLEAN UP ON AISLE...UGH. In a world of heroes, monsters, and villains there's always someone to clean up the mess. Sure there's construction, there's city planning, but what about the gore? The guts? Who takes care of the stains in your carpet? The burn marks on the side of your house? Hailey Cleaners. That's who. We got your back.
IT'S THE FAMILY BUSINESS, SON. Marcus grew up in a universe of supers, dupers, and boopers. Whatever the hell that meant, Dad. But he was normal-- that's the point. He wasn't special. He hadn't any powers. And he certainly wasn't going to save the world. His mom and dad owned a cleaning business together, his mom managing the background while his dad the front. His older brothers were also heavily involved in it, Nash and Winton. The elder of the two, Nash, running management over several crews while the middle of the three, Winton, marketed and graphic designed them to success. Marcus? Well he was pretty darn good at cleaning if you asked him.
IT'S ALL COMING TOGETHER. That's what his dad would say whenever the family sat down for dinner every Sunday. Their business was booming, no longer working out of just New York City but other major locations across the states. Hell! They were close to going international, but no closer to the galactic part of it-- they'd get there. But the point was, it was coming together and the family couldn't be happier with its success. Marcus included.
DID YOU EXPECT A TWIST? Marcus loved his family, enjoyed his job, wanted to grow in the company... but that didn't change that he wanted to be out of here. Out of this city, out of this state, country... planet. Marcus wants to be in space. He wants to be aboard something that constantly moves through the stars... not another planet. He'd do it for his family if they could get to that level, but until then... he just dreams about the moon. The stars. The eternal fucking darkness waiting to swallow him whole-- okay that was grim.
DEAR fuckin' DIARY. Nash got married today, she's nice. scribble scribble. Winton got married today, she's dreadful. scribble scribble. Kelly broke up with me yesterday, sorry I forgot to tell you. scribble scribble. Would you believe it? I spilled a bucket of bloody water on this chick jogging by a place. She'd smiled at me and I knocked the bucket off the hoist. scribble scribble. I applied for a space training program today. Haven't told dad. Haven't told anyone. Thinking of doing one of those pen pal things. scribble scribble. I would like a fucking break please at whatever woohoo witch cursed me.
THE END. Believe it or not, this is the end. This is as far as we go. Marcus lives on Earth in a one bedroom apartment with his goldfish, Rocky. He works for his parents. He will never go to space. He will never see another planet passing by in a window. He will die before the age of seventy-three, but he'll be happy.

On Tech Support
On May 5, 2023 I got a call that changed my life.
I had just accepted a job offer to work for the Browser Company of New York!
I walked up the stairs to our apartment with great news and my wife told me to sit down. My Mum had called. My Dad had to be rushed to the hospital. He was bleeding internally and it looked like he was suffering renal failure. We flew out to be with him and my Mum. He passed away 9 days later.
My Dad is one of the reasons Iâm good with computers.
Dad went to college to learn how to use computers back in the 70s â this was back when computers would take up whole rooms and you had to input commands with punch cards.
He brought home our first home computer in the late 90s; a chunky Compaq Presario that clicked like a bottle nose dolphin as it chugged along. The Compaq was mainly for his side hustle (a carpet cleaning business) and for me and my brothers to do our school work (the side hustle was helping to pay our school fees), but it quickly became my direct portal to the skateboarding article on Encarta and pokemon.com.
Dadâs main job was the night production manager for the Royal Gazette â a job he had for close to 40 years. He would often talk about how he missed the sound of a newsroom. The clacks and thunks of typewriters, the ringing of phones, the chaos of people coming together to make a paper every day. I couldnât imagine how the Gazette could ever have been a loud place when I would visit him at work. It was deafeningly quiet! He would plop me in front of a computer to play Minesweeper and the only sounds you could hear were my mouse clicks.
Since Dad worked at night, he had a good chunk of hang time waiting for the paper to be ready to go to production. He would listen to internet radio stations, read interesting articles and forward dirty joke emails from his coworkers. When I left home for university my procrastinating study hours and his work hours would sync up. We would email each other links to cool music, videos, articles and, since I was old enough, the odd dirty joke email forward. But we mostly just chatted.
We started saying âI love youâ over email
He was a great writer â he wrote just like he spoke â and both of our conversation styles lent themselves to the time delayed back and forth of email. I say something, you read it and think about it, you send a considered response back with a little something extra. Repeat.
We started saying âI love youâ over email. We were always close, but we both had a hard time talking about our feelings especially when I was a teenager. Being apart, but still staying in touch over email gave us the space to feel comfortable saying we loved each other. We had no trouble saying it after that â it was one of the first things we said to each other when I could finally come home for Christmas in December 2022.
Tech is very expensive where I come from (about 30% more expensive than the US), so whenever I go home I roll up like Tech Santa with a bag full of laptops, tablets and phones. The Compaq Presario was long gone and Dadâs laptop had seen better days. Dad was a long time Windows user â he wrote his memoirs in Microsoft Word â so he was keen to stay on something familiar.
I got him a Surface Laptop 3. I walked him through setting up Windows 11. I arranged his bookmarks bar in Chrome so he could quickly access his email, Facebook, Youtube and, most importantly, his memoirs which weâd uploaded to Google Drive. He was so happy to have all of his stuff moved over to his new computer and relieved that his memoirs were properly backed up.
Going through his browser after he died was some of the most heartbreaking work Iâve ever done
After he passed away I helped my Mum with the gut wrenching task of cleaning up Dadâs digital life. I made sure she had access to his email and important logins so she could deal with closing accounts and adjusting billing names. I also memorialized his Facebook page to ensure it didnât get hacked and start spamming friends and relatives with crypto scams.
Dad had several strokes leading up the internal bleeding and renal failure in May 2023. Honestly back in Christmas 2022 he had only recently recovered from his last stroke and he wasnât quite himself. Going through his browser after he died was some of the most heartbreaking work Iâve ever done. The bookmarks bar that we had carefully set up together was riddled with duplicates â Facebook, Youtube, Google Drive over and over spilling out into a drop down menu. My Dad knew his way around computers. He had been using them since they took up a whole room. I knew some damage had been done after the strokes, although he was very good at hiding it and I donât think I was ready to admit it at the time. But with him gone and looking into his computer, his window to the world, I couldnât deny what I had known for at least a year. My Dad had strokes, my Dad had internal bleeding, my Dad was dying, my Dad was gone.
These things â computers, web browsers â theyâre not just inert tools waiting to be picked up and used. The more you use them, the more they become a part of you and you of them. The laptop lid gets scratched, coffee is spilled onto the keyboard, cords become frayed, bookmarks get bundled up into folders to be forgotten, passwords get scribbled on sticky notes and then reset again, tabs sit open for months just in case, URLS and search queries are typed in repeatedly just because youâve built up the muscle memory â facebook, youtube, google drive, pokemon.com.
Weâre all about to be new at this again
A developer friend of mine once said to me, âthe future is here and weâre all bad at itâ. University level STEM students donât know how file paths work, they donât teach kids to type anymore and more and more jobs across a variety of fields require some degree of computer literacy. Everyone is expected to just know how to use computers, but as my Mum would say âIâve never had a lesson!â. As we head into the next phase of computing â where you work with the computer instead of simply using the computer â much of your interactions will be through AI language models, but even the people building those donât really know how they work. Weâre all about to be new at this again â new at computers, new at web browsers, new at everything. Now more than ever, weâre all going to need some help. Hopefully that help comes from someone who understands what youâre going through, what youâre trying to get done and can meet you where youâre at.
What weâre building is so much more than just a portal to websites
On June 5 2023 I started a job that changed my life. I started working at the Browser Company of New York!
I help to build Arc, a product that I love, with some of the most talented, thoughtful and inspiring people Iâve ever met. I helped bring Arc to Windows, so people like my Dad could use this very special browser that feels like my home on the internet.
I truly feel like Iâm doing the best work of my life and thatâs because what weâre building is so much more than just a portal to websites. Itâs where you do your work. Itâs where you hang out with friends. Itâs where you pirate anime, do your taxes and send emails to your Dad.
Itâs where you live your life. As we continue to build I hope to be that human voice on the other side of the computer that helps you feel like Arc is for you, for your stuff, for your life. I want to help Arc feel like home. See you on the internet âïž Love you, Dad!

Libby Spotlight: Have a Good LaughÂ
The Office BFFs by Jenna Fischer & Angela Kinsey
Receptionist Pam Beesly and accountant Angela Martin had very little in common when they toiled together at Scranton's Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. But, in reality, the two bonded in their very first days on set and, over the nine seasons of the series' run, built a friendship that transcended the show and continues to this day. Sharing everything from what it was like in the early days as the show struggled to gain traction, to walking their first red carpetâplus exclusive stories on the making of milestone episodes and how their lives changed when they became momsâThe Office BFFs is full of the same warm and friendly tone Jenna and Angela have brought to their âOffice Ladiesâ podcast.
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
Back in America after twenty years in Britain, Bill Bryson decided to reacquaint himself with his native country by walking the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, which stretches from Georgia to Maine. The AT offers an astonishing landscape of silent forests and sparkling lakesâand to a writer with the comic genius of Bill Bryson, it also provides endless opportunities to witness the majestic silliness of his fellow human beings.
For a start thereâs the gloriously out-of-shape Stephen Katz, a buddy from Iowa along for the walk. But A Walk in the Woods is more than just a laugh-out-loud hike. Brysonâs acute eye is a wise witness to this beautiful but fragile trail, and as he tells its fascinating history, he makes a moving plea for the conservation of Americaâs last great wilderness. An adventure, a comedy, and a celebration, A Walk in the Woods is a modern classic of travel literature.
Adulting by Kelly Williams Brown
If you graduated from college but still feel like a student... if you wear a business suit to job interviews but pajamas to the grocery store... if you have your own apartment but no idea how to cook or clean . . . it's OK. But it doesn't have to be this way.
Just because you don't feel like an adult doesn't mean you can't act like one. And it all begins with this funny, wise, and useful book. Based on Kelly Williams Brown's popular blog, Adulting makes the scary, confusing "real world" approachable, manageableâand even conquerable. This guide will help you to navigate the stormy Sea of Adulthood so that you may find safe harbor in Not Running Out of Toilet Paper Bay, and along the way you will learn:
What to check for when renting a new apartmentânot just the nearby bars, but the faucets and stove, among other things.
When a busy person can find time to learn more about the world (It involves the intersection of NPR and hair-straightening.)
How to avoid hooking up with anyone in your officeâimagine your coworkers having plastic, featureless doll crotches. It helps.
The secret to finding a mechanic you loveâor, more realistically, one that will not rob you blind.
You Canât Be Serious by Kal Penn
You Can't Be Serious is a series of funny, consequential, awkward, and ridiculous stories from Kal Penn's idiosyncratic life. It's about being the grandson of Gandhian freedom fighters, and the son of immigrant parents: people who came to this country with very little and went very farâand whose vision of the American dream probably never included their son sliding off an oiled-up naked woman in the raunchy Ryan Reynolds movie Van Wilder...or getting a phone call from Air Force One as Kal flew with the country's first Black president.
"By turns hilarious, poignant, and inspiring" (David Axelrod, New York Times bestselling author), Kal reflects on the most exasperating and rewarding moments from his journey so far. He pulls back the curtain on the nuances of opportunity and racism in the entertainment industry and recounts how he built allies, found encouragement, and dealt with early reminders that he might never fit in. He describes his initially unpromising first date with his now-fiancé Josh, involving an 18-pack of Coors Light and an afternoon of watching NASCAR. And of course, he reveals how, after a decade and a half of fighting for and enjoying successes in Hollywood, he made the terrifying but rewarding decision to take a sabbatical from a fulfilling acting career for an opportunity to serve his country as an Obama White House aide.

BACKGROUND
Emma Kate Keaton was born and raised in Aurora Bay, born to Christine and Alan Halsbury. Yes, the infamous Halsbury family that resides in the wealthy gated community of Aurora Bay Drive. Her family has a slew of problems they make sure to sweep under the pristinely cleaned carpet, however money was never one of them. For as long as Emma can remember and truthfully even before she was even born her father had an abundance of money in his bank account. Alan Halsbury came from money, yet at a young age he began investing in companies as soon as he got his trust fund he more than doubled it in just a few short years. Emma had never lived a life where money was a struggle, yet despite this Emma never let it affect the way she treated those around her. Naturally kind, a bit soft spoken, and witty, Emma was taught were early in life from her mother poise and elegance.
Although Emma often only saw her mother from afar, her care often relegated to nannies and workers of the home, her mother's insists on proper etiquette and care were deeply instilled. Her mother, a ballet dancer in her youth had insisted that her daughter would be placed in ballet from the moment Emma could walk. It would teach her elegance, poise, and discipline her mother would always say, yet as the other Emma got, the more she felt ballet was more so a way for her mother to place her off somewhere so her parents were free to socialize. You see the only thing Christine cared more about than poise and elegance was the connections she made with other wealthy folks in Aurora. Christine was known for throwing extravagant parties, for spending her husband's wealth on designer everything, having the best equated to being the best. So often she primped and primed Emma almost as much as she did herself.
Emma and her parents were never necessarily close, Emma did her best to stay hidden behind, spending most her days at the dance studio, it being the one place Emma felt like she could breathe. While she danced she often felt the harsh inner voice of critiques instilled from her mother would fade. Not much interested things happened until Emma at sixteen met a boy. Damian, a boy from her class with a smirk that always brought butterflies to her stomach. The two never went passed a friendship, in fear what her parents would say or do, yet Emma couldn't deny the feelings she began to feel for him. Their relationship stayed mostly platonic, with the occasionally flirty comment that always made her cheeks color. However, that all changed the summer before Emma was due to move to New York for the fall. Emma had gotten into a performing arts school and with Damian freshly off a break up she knew if they were ever going to explore their feelings now was the moment.
That summer was filled with romance that Emma had only ever dreamed of at that point, and the two fell in love fiercely and quickly. Their summer romance came to an abrupt smack of reality when Emma realized that she was pregnant. She knew before the test showed that plus sign how her parents were going to react, and she knew instantly her life was going to change forever. Her parents made it clear, either find an alternative or have the baby and have nothing to do with them, so Emma packed some pieces of luggage and that was that. It wasn't long before Damian saved up from his new job and got down on one knee. It was fast but she knew even then her family along with her future was with him. The two were married quickly after, a few months before their son was born. They never had as much as when she lived with her parents but she had never been happier.
Their marriage was filled with a lot of love, laughter, and growth in those first ten years. Despite him needing to travel often for work she found immense delight in being a wife a mother. All that tragically changed however, one night when she got a phone call that would change her life forever. A car crash, a car crash and everything she had spent years building collapsed in seconds. She was told Damian's body was too destroyed in the accident so she wasn't even able to see him one last time. To make matters even more complicated she had taken a test that very morning confirming they were in fact going to have a second. With not much options left she had to do what she never wanted to and ask her parents for help. She asked for a loan to buy the newly for sale dance studio, changed its name to Elegance Dance Studio, a nod to her mom, and began her life as a newly single mother of two.
The first four, almost five years of her daughters life were some of the most challenging, difficult, and enduring of her life. She did what she had to get by, trying her best not to dwell on the way things were. Currently she is doing her best to juggle paying her parents back, raising her children with love and attention, something her own childhood lacked, and to move past the grief of losing her husband.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
dancers at her studio
fellow parents, maybe parents of the friends of her children
her former husband's family members
a man who she has been slowly getting to know, it hasn't gone anywhere, but the are friendly
friends who helped her through her grief, or friends that she lost due to her grief?
siblings, sister or brother, or both? whether they are strained or close we can discuss.

Elevate Your Space with Professional NY Expert Cleaning Services
New York City is a vibrant hub of activity, culture, and ambition. With its fast-paced lifestyle and diverse population, the need for cleanliness in homes and businesses has never been more crucial. Enter professional cleaning services: the unsung heroes behind the scenes, ensuring that every space remains immaculate and welcoming. In this blog, weâll explore the benefits of hiring expert cleaning services in New York, the various types of services offered, and tips on choosing the right provider for your needs.
The Importance of Professional Cleaning Services
A Healthier Environment
One of the primary reasons to hire professional cleaning services is the health benefits they provide. In a city where millions of people share close quarters, cleanliness is paramount. Dust, allergens, and germs can accumulate quickly, leading to potential health issues. Professional cleaners utilize advanced techniques and high-quality products to thoroughly disinfect and sanitize surfaces, reducing the risk of illness and creating a healthier environment for families and employees alike.
Time Savings
In a city that never sleeps, time is a precious commodity. Many New Yorkers juggle demanding jobs, family responsibilities, and social commitments, leaving little time for household chores. By hiring professional cleaners, you can reclaim your time and focus on what matters most to youâwhether itâs spending time with family, pursuing hobbies, or simply enjoying a well-deserved break. Professional cleaning services can work around your schedule, providing regular maintenance or one-time deep cleans as needed.
Expertise and Quality
When it comes to cleaning, experience matters. Professional cleaning services employ trained staff who are well-versed in the latest cleaning techniques and equipped with high-quality tools. This expertise ensures a level of cleanliness that is often unattainable through standard household cleaning. From tackling tough stains to reaching high places, professional cleaners know how to get the job done effectively and efficiently.
Types of Professional Cleaning Services
Residential Cleaning
For homeowners and renters, residential cleaning services can transform your living space. Whether you need regular maintenance or a thorough deep clean, these services typically include:
Dusting and Vacuuming: Removing dust and allergens from surfaces and carpets.
Kitchen Cleaning: Sanitizing countertops, appliances, and sinks.
Bathroom Cleaning: Disinfecting toilets, showers, and sinks.
Floor Care: Mopping and vacuuming hard floors and carpets.
Regular cleaning helps maintain a healthy and inviting home, while deep cleaning is perfect for seasonal refreshes or preparing for special events.
Commercial Cleaning
In the business world, first impressions matter. A clean workspace reflects professionalism and can enhance employee morale and productivity. Commercial cleaning services cater to various industries, offering:
Office Cleaning: Regular cleaning of workspaces, meeting rooms, and communal areas.
Retail Cleaning: Keeping storefronts clean and inviting for customers.
Post-Construction Cleaning: Ensuring that newly renovated or constructed spaces are ready for use.
Professional commercial cleaners understand the unique needs of businesses and can tailor their services accordingly, ensuring a pristine environment that aligns with your brand.
Specialized Cleaning Services
In addition to standard residential and commercial cleaning, many companies offer specialized services to address unique cleaning needs:
Move-In/Move-Out Cleaning: Ideal for tenants transitioning in or out, these services ensure that spaces are left in immaculate condition.
Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning: Professional deep cleaning for carpets, rugs, and furniture to remove stains, odors, and allergens.
Green Cleaning: Eco-friendly options that use non-toxic products to protect both the environment and the health of your family or employees.
Choosing the Right Cleaning Service
When it comes to selecting a professional cleaning service in New York, several factors should be considered:
Reputation and Reviews
Start by researching local cleaning companies. Online reviews and testimonials can provide valuable insights into the quality of service offered. Websites like Yelp and Google Reviews can help you gauge the reputation of different providers, allowing you to make an informed decision.
Services Offered
Different cleaning services offer varying packages and specialties. Ensure the company you choose provides the specific services you need, whether itâs routine cleaning, deep cleaning, or specialized options. A flexible provider can tailor their offerings to suit your schedule and requirements.
Pricing Transparency
Understand the pricing structure before committing to a cleaning service. Look for companies that offer clear, upfront pricing without hidden fees. Many reputable services provide free estimates, allowing you to compare costs and make an informed choice.
Insurance and Safety Protocols
A trustworthy cleaning service should be fully insured. This protects you and your property in case of accidents or damages during the cleaning process. Additionally, inquire about the safety protocols the company follows to ensure the well-being of both employees and clients.
The Impact of a Clean Space
Investing in professional cleaning services is more than just a convenience; it significantly impacts your quality of life. A clean and organized environment can reduce stress, enhance mental clarity, and foster productivity. In a city as dynamic as New York, coming home to a clean space or stepping into a spotless office can provide a much-needed sense of calm.

office cleaning service in new York
Introduction
In the dynamic business environment of New York City, maintaining a clean and organized workspace is essential. It's not just about aesthetics; a clean office contributes to employee well-being, productivity, and the overall image of your business. With so many cleaning services available in New York, finding the right one can be challenging. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to make an informed decision, from understanding your office's unique needs to comparing costs and evaluating potential service providers.
Understanding Your Office Cleaning Needs
Before you begin searching for a cleaning service, it's crucial to assess the specific needs of your office. Different businesses have different requirements, and understanding these will help you narrow down your options.
1. Office Size and Layout
The size of your office and its layout will significantly influence the type of cleaning service you need. Larger offices with multiple floors may require more comprehensive cleaning services, while smaller offices might get by with less frequent visits.
Large Offices: These typically need daily cleaning services that include trash removal, floor cleaning, restroom sanitation, and dusting. If your office has a kitchen or break room, those areas will also require regular attention.
Small Offices: A smaller office might only need cleaning services once or twice a week, depending on foot traffic and the nature of your business.
2. Type of Business
The nature of your business can also dictate the type of cleaning service you require. For example:
Corporate Offices: These usually need standard cleaning services like dusting, vacuuming, and restroom cleaning.
Medical Offices: These require specialized cleaning that complies with health and safety regulations, focusing on sanitation and disinfection.
Retail Spaces: Retail locations often need more attention to floor cleaning and window washing to maintain a clean appearance for customers.
Tech Companies: Offices with a lot of electronic equipment may require careful cleaning to avoid damaging sensitive devices.
3. Frequency of Cleaning
How often your office needs cleaning depends on several factors, including the number of employees, the type of business, and customer traffic. High-traffic areas may need daily attention, while less frequently used spaces might only need weekly cleaning.
4. Special Considerations
Consider any special requirements your office may have:
Green Cleaning: If your company prioritizes sustainability, you might want to choose a cleaning service that uses environmentally friendly products.
Confidentiality: For offices handling sensitive information, itâs crucial to choose a service provider with staff trained to respect confidentiality.
Seasonal Needs: New Yorkâs harsh winters can bring in a lot of dirt and salt. Consider a service that can handle seasonal deep cleaning or carpet maintenance.
Qualities to Look for in an Office Cleaning Service
Once you have a clear understanding of your officeâs cleaning needs, itâs time to evaluate potential service providers. Here are some key qualities to look for:
1. Experience and Reputation
Experience in the industry is a strong indicator of reliability and quality. A company with a long-standing presence in New York is likely to have a track record of satisfied clients.
Client Reviews: Check online reviews and testimonials to gauge customer satisfaction. Look for consistent praise in areas important to you, such as attention to detail, reliability, and customer service.
References: Donât hesitate to ask for references from current or past clients. Speaking directly with another business owner can give you insight into what itâs like to work with the cleaning service.
2. Range of Services Offered
Not all cleaning services are created equal. Ensure the company you choose offers the services you need. A full-service company can handle everything from daily cleaning tasks to more specialized services.
Basic Services: Includes trash removal, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom cleaning.
Deep Cleaning: Periodic services like carpet shampooing, window washing, and floor waxing.
Specialized Cleaning: Services tailored to specific industries, such as medical-grade cleaning for healthcare facilities or eco-friendly options for green businesses.
Disinfection Services: Particularly important in the post-pandemic world, these services ensure high-touch areas are regularly sanitized to prevent the spread of germs.
3. Insurance and Certifications
A professional cleaning service should be fully insured and bonded. This protects your business from liability in case of accidents or damages that occur during cleaning. Additionally, check for certifications that indicate adherence to industry standards.
General Liability Insurance: Covers any damages to your property caused by the cleaning crew.
Workersâ Compensation Insurance: Protects you from liability if a cleaner is injured on your property.
Certifications: Look for certifications like the ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CUMS), which indicates a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
4. Trained and Trustworthy Staff
The cleaning crew will be working in your office, often outside of business hours, so itâs essential that they are trustworthy and well-trained.
Background Checks: Ensure the cleaning service conducts thorough background checks on its employees.
Training Programs: The staff should be trained in the latest cleaning techniques and safety protocols.
Supervision: A well-managed team with clear supervision ensures consistent quality and accountability.

Odd Claims Found in New York City
Claims Found in New York City
New York City, known for its vibrant culture, towering skyscrapers, and bustling streets, is also a place where odd and unusual events can occur, leading to some bizarre insurance claims. The unique and often unpredictable nature of life in the Big Apple has given rise to a variety of strange and fascinating insurance stories. Here are some of the most peculiar insurance claims found in New York City:
1. The Central Park Squirrel Attack
One of the oddest claims involved a jogger in Central Park who was unexpectedly attacked by a squirrel. The incident resulted in a series of medical treatments for bites and scratches, leading the jogger to file a claim under their health insurance. While animal attacks are not uncommon, a squirrel causing such injury was certainly out of the ordinary. The insurance company initially balked at the claim but eventually covered the medical expenses, citing the unusual nature of the incident.
2. Pigeon Poop Predicament
In another bizarre case, a resident of an Upper West Side apartment filed a claim for property damage caused by an unexpected invasion of pigeons. The birds had somehow found their way into the apartment through a chimney, leaving behind a significant mess. The homeowner's insurance had to cover extensive cleaning and repairs due to the pervasive pigeon droppings, which had damaged furniture, carpets, and even some electronics.
3. Subway Slip-Up
The New York City subway system is an integral part of city life, but it also sees its fair share of accidents. One particularly unusual claim involved a commuter who slipped on a discarded banana peel while rushing to catch a train. The resulting fall caused minor injuries, leading the commuter to file a claim for medical expenses. The incident was reminiscent of an old slapstick comedy routine but was very real and painful for the victim.
4. Falling Ice Fiasco
During a particularly harsh winter, a Midtown pedestrian experienced a close encounter with falling ice. Large icicles had formed on the edge of a high-rise building and, as temperatures fluctuated, a chunk of ice broke off and struck the pedestrian. This led to a claim against the building's liability insurance for medical treatment and damages. The building management had to implement new safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
5. Times Square Turkey
Times Square is no stranger to odd occurrences, but a particularly strange event involved a wild turkey. The bird had somehow wandered into the bustling area and caused a commotion among tourists and locals alike. In the chaos, the turkey collided with a vendor's cart, causing damage to both the cart and some nearby property. The vendor filed a claim for the damages, and the insurance company had to assess the unlikely situation to process the claim.
6. Art Gallery Mishap
In the art-rich neighborhoods of Chelsea, a unique claim involved an art gallery visitor who accidentally knocked over a priceless sculpture. The visitor, while admiring the artwork, tripped and fell into the sculpture, causing significant damage. The gallery's insurance policy had to cover the restoration costs, which were substantial given the value and delicacy of the piece. This incident highlighted the risks involved in handling and displaying valuable art.
7. Taxi Trouble
New York City is famous for its yellow cabs, and one peculiar insurance claim involved a taxi driver who accidentally drove into a sinkhole that suddenly appeared on a city street. The vehicle sustained considerable damage, and the driver filed a claim for the repairs. The city also had to address the unexpected infrastructure failure, adding to the overall complexity of the situation.
8. Celebrity Collision
In a city where celebrities are often spotted, one unusual claim involved a minor car accident between a famous actor and a delivery driver. The collision itself was minor, but the ensuing media frenzy and the need for discretion led to a complicated claims process. Both parties' insurance companies had to navigate the additional layer of public interest and privacy concerns, making it a particularly challenging claim to resolve.
9. Brooklyn Bridge Bike Blunder
Cycling across the Brooklyn Bridge is a popular activity, but it led to an odd claim when a cyclist, attempting a selfie, lost control and collided with a pedestrian. Both parties sustained minor injuries, and claims were filed under health and liability insurance policies. The incident underscored the sometimes risky behavior of combining modern technology with traditional activities.
10. Ghostly Encounter
One of the strangest claims came from a tenant in a historic Manhattan building who reported damages caused by what they believed was a ghost. The tenant claimed that unexplained phenomena, such as objects moving on their own and sudden temperature drops, had caused damage to their personal belongings. While the insurance company was skeptical, they conducted a thorough investigation and, to avoid bad publicity, covered some of the claimed damages under the policy's mysterious events clause.
These peculiar insurance claims highlight the diverse and unpredictable nature of life in New York City. Each story is a testament to the city's vibrant and sometimes eccentric character, proving that in the Big Apple, you should always expect the unexpected.

Understanding House Cleaning Prices: What You Need to Know
Keeping a home clean and well-maintained is a priority for many, but understanding the cost of professional house cleaning services can sometimes be confusing. Whether you are considering hiring a cleaning service for the first time or switching providers, having a clear idea of the pricing structure can help you make an informed decision. In this blog post, weâll break down the factors that influence house cleaning prices and what you can expect when budgeting for these services.
Factors Influencing House Cleaning Prices
1. Type of Cleaning Service
The cost of house cleaning varies depending on the type of service you need. Here are some common types:
Routine Cleaning: Regular maintenance cleanings typically cost less than deep cleaning. These sessions often include dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and bathroom cleaning.
Deep Cleaning: This is a more thorough cleaning that covers areas not usually included in routine cleanings, such as baseboards, behind appliances, and inside cabinets.
Move-In/Move-Out Cleaning: This service ensures a home is spotless before moving in or after moving out. It includes deep cleaning and often additional tasks like carpet cleaning.
Specialized Cleaning: Services like carpet shampooing, window washing, or upholstery cleaning can cost extra.
2. Frequency of Service
The frequency with which you schedule cleaning services also impacts the price:
One-Time Cleaning: Generally costs more per visit compared to regular cleaning services.
Weekly/Bi-Weekly Cleaning: Often comes at a discounted rate since the cleaners maintain the cleanliness regularly.
Monthly Cleaning: More expensive than weekly but can be a good balance for those who need periodic deep cleaning.
3. Size and Condition of the Home
The size of your home and its current condition are significant factors in determining the cost:
Square Footage: Larger homes take more time and effort to clean, leading to higher prices.
Number of Rooms/Bathrooms: More rooms and bathrooms increase the cleaning time.
Condition: Homes that havenât been cleaned in a while or require significant tidying up will cost more due to the extra labor involved.
4. Location
Your geographic location can also influence prices. House cleaning services in urban areas or cities with a high cost of living, such as Sydney or New York, are generally more expensive than in rural areas.
5. Additional Services
Adding extra services to your cleaning package will increase the cost. These might include:
Oven Cleaning
Refrigerator Cleaning
Interior Window Washing
Laundry Services
6. Cleaning Products and Equipment
Some cleaning companies provide their own products and equipment, while others might use what you have at home. Using eco-friendly or specialized products can also affect the price.
Average House Cleaning Prices
While prices can vary widely, here are some average costs you might expect:
Routine Cleaning: $75 - $150 for a standard three-bedroom, two-bathroom home.
Deep Cleaning: $200 - $400 or more, depending on the home's size and condition.
Move-In/Move-Out Cleaning: $300 - $500, which includes thorough cleaning to prepare the home for new occupants.
Hourly Rates: $25 - $50 per hour per cleaner. Some companies charge per hour, which can be beneficial for smaller jobs or unpredictable tasks.
Tips for Getting the Best Value
1. Compare Quotes
Get quotes from multiple cleaning services to compare prices and services offered. Be sure to ask whatâs included in the quoted price to avoid any surprises.
2. Read Reviews
Check online reviews and testimonials to ensure youâre hiring a reputable company. Quality service might cost a bit more but will save you headaches in the long run.
3. Ask About Discounts
Many companies offer discounts for regular services, referrals, or bundled services. Donât hesitate to ask about available promotions.
4. Clarify Expectations
Ensure you and the cleaning service have a clear understanding of the tasks to be performed. A detailed checklist can prevent misunderstandings and ensure you get what you pay for.
Conclusion
Understanding house cleaning prices can help you budget effectively and choose the right service for your needs. By considering the type of cleaning, frequency, size and condition of your home, location, and any additional services, you can find a cleaning solution that fits your budget. Remember, investing in a professional cleaning service not only saves you time and effort but also ensures your home remains a healthy and inviting space.
