buckle up kiddos i've finished that part of ac4 (again) and i have some thoughts to share

about how Mary affects Edward even after her death

so. i suck at introductions, but let start in the... end. more specifically, the hallucination scene

what interesting to me is that its Caroline who plays the role of guilt. at that moment Edward doesn't know yet that she's also dead, but it's her who his mind puts in the place of accuser. she represents not only herself but all people that Edward let down.

she doesn't try to make him change his life. only accuses him in making mistakes in the past. (please, keep in mind that it's not real Caroline, but Edward's mind playing tricks on him).

and in the end... she dissapears. like everyone else in Edward's life.

and that's where Mary steps in. she accuses him too, BUT there's bif fat BUT she also STILL tries make him "change his course". Mary is that part of Edward's mind that still believes that there's a chance for him to change. (also, the cliffs becomes visible only then "Caroline" disappears and "Mary" appears. only then Edward starts to see that he leads his ship to his death.)

i'll get to scene in prison later, but in that scene while dying Mary also tries to the same, but somehow it feels more... gentle, while in hallucination Edward's mind doesn't offer him it.

also "Mary" in Edward's mind doesn't really talk about people Edward let down. only about him. the only time she broughts up something about it it's still about Edward and him not wanting to save himself

now let's step back and get back to Jamaican prison.

after Mary asks him to "do his part", Edward pleads her to stay with him. yes, it's an act of despair. but it also shows that Edward believes that it's Mary who can make him save himself from his own destruction (and i think that's why exactly after her death Edward finally breaks. Not after Thatch's death who was something like a mentor figure. Not after Ben's betrayal. But after Mary's death.)

to what Mary replays

now let's get back to the hallucination.

"Mary" still believes that Edward can "build himself up" to what Edward, contradictory to his plead in prison, says "JUST LEAVE ME BE"

but she stays. she keeps her promise to be with Kenway.

and she will stay with him. as a guilt, yes, but that guilt will not make him drown. will not make him blind to cliffs that will kill him. this guilt will make him want do better.

Mary Read will make him want to do better.

Legacy of Lies: The Kenway Chronicles

So there's a peculiar running theme centered around the concept of lying and how it always results in death for the Kenways and the people in their lives. Edward lies about how long he'd be gone as a privateer - Caroline dies Haytham lies to Connor about his knowledge of his son's mother and village - led to a rift and conflict with Connor which leads to his death. Connor lies to Ziio about reading her journal - She dies the same day. Interestingly, Connor doesn't lie again throughout the story, and why he's more honest and forthright than he probably has any reason to be.

Day of the death

On November 2, in Mexico, the "Day of the Dead" is celebrated. so I wanted to make some members of the Kenway family as skeletons, or catrinas.

Thinking about how Edward's children are a reflection of the man he left in the Caribbean and the man Mary Read always saw in him.

Haytham: The child he taught to think for himself, the child he never lied to. The one he tried to instill a sense of responsibility and free thought into.

Jenny: The child he neglected, the child he wanted to protect while disregarding her thoughts and opinions, the way he did her mother.

This is what scooped ‘em up.” “Oh, if they wanted to belong to something, I know a book club that holds meetings in Queens Public Library,” said the Spider. “Less fire, but about the same amount of fistfights over particularly controversial choices.” Edward laughed. “Do your libraries really get that exciting in this city?” he asked, something soft and warm blooming in the center of his chest.

What kind of jobs would do the assassin's creed characters in the modern days?

Desmond would continue his bartendering.

Layla Hassan would be an architect. She wants to be like Indiana Jones.

Altair would be an historic. He would wrote books about historical facts that people doesn't know.

Malik woulb be a cartographer. He would fly around the world to create accurate maps for his app (let's be real Google Maps sucks).

Maria would be a self defense teacher. She would teach women how to defend themselves.

Ezio, and his brother Federico would work in the family company. Ezio would take care of the franchise around Italy, China and Turkey. His associates (his protèges) abroad are Yusuf Tazim and Shao Jun.

Petruccio would be a vet specialised in birds care.

Claudia would open a fashion agency.

Both Giovanni and Maria Auditore would be retired in Montereggioni (with Uncle Mario).

Edward Kenway would be retired, but when he was young he owned a bar, The Jackdaw, in the heart of London with his best friend Edward Tatch. With his wife, Tessa Kenway (a stay at home mum), they would work as volunteers at the dog rescue center. Edward's ex wife Caroline Scott would live abroad, and work in human resources.

Jennifer Scott would work with Claudia Auditore in the fashion agency. She would open a franchise of Claudia's company in London, and another franchise in New York (much to her brother annoyance).

Haytham Kenway would be an economics teacher at the New York University. His wife Ziio would be a lawyer for the Native American rights. Their son Connor Kenway would be a forest ranger. His parents are starting to ask him for grandchildren.

Aveline de Grandpré and Elise de la Serre would be fashion stylists. Elise had a relationship with Arno but broke up because it didn't work.

Shay Cormac and Liam O'brien would work as seafarers. They would co-operate with Greenpeace. Shay is married with a son he had when he was very young. He named his son after his two godfathers Liam and George Monroe (much to Liam's displeasure). Shay doesn't know yet but he is going to be a grandfather before 50.

Hope Jensen would work as a flying attendant.

Arno Dorian would open a café littéraire near Montmartre. He has a son, Léon. His father Charles Dorian, and his godfather Pierre Bellec would be in politics. They would co-operate with François de la Serre against Germain, and Chevalier (everyone hates Chevalier).

Jacob Frye would open his own pub, The Rooks, with his brother in law. Like Arno he is a single father. Jacob and Arno have friends with benefits friendship. Evie Frye would work at the university library . Their father, Ethan Frye would work as a literature teacher at the Cambridge University. Since he is close to retirement he often spends time playing with his grandson Emmett.

Bayek and his wife Aya would work at the Cairo's museum as curators.

Kassandra, and her brother Alexios would work in their mom's tourism agency in Athens.

Eivor Varinsdottir would work as a freelance photographer around the world, and will publish her photos in some publications in England. Sometimes she will ask Shay a ride on the Morrigan to photograph the whales.

Juno and Minerva would be software engineers. Persephone and her husband Hades would open a funeral parolours. Poseidon would open a swimming school. Jupiter would be retired with Loki and Havi.

Okay this might be a silly sounding request but Edward Kenway x Maybe Siren Reader??? (hear me out)

Edward gets knocked out while whaling and ends up in the water, in and out of consciousness. He eventually comes to on the shore of a beach after being rescued by Reader (he has no idea where they came from in the middle of the ocean but also they're gorgeous and half naked and practically on top of him so all in all his day's wildly improved) he maybe gets a kiss or two in before he hears Adewale calling to him and the crew arriving and then Reader is just gone? (did he imagine them? How hard did he hit his head? Hang on that's definitely a love bite--)

Edward saw a brief flash of Caroline’s face before it morphed into an unfamiliar one. Feeling a body pressed against his own, he craved for the warmth of another after the years away from home. Caroline, you, even if he knew nothing of who you are or what you are.

He heard Adewale’s shout of his name again before he gathered himself from the beach’s shore. A loud “splash!” caught his attention before turning away from your eyes peeking out of the water.

Okay what if Edward stated haunting the jackdaw after his death and some pieces of the jackdaw after its destruction was repurposed into the aquila

Yeah, that could work. All we know from the Jackdaw’s ‘death’ is that it sank in the West Indies (as seen in Freedom Cry where Adéwalé can get the figurehead) so it’s possible that Adéwalé could have told them where to find it. Although using parts from an already sunken and drenched ship would be dangerous so I would suggest that there’s something in Aquila that was once part of the Jackdaw. I would have suggested the helm but that’s already in Kenway mansion before it sunk and having the figurehead instead is kinda iffy (and absolutely not because I like the figurehead of the Aquila XD).

So how about the chest in the captain’s cabin instead?

Edward would start haunting the Jackdaw under the sea since the Jackdaw was sunk before his death and maybe he manages to whisper to the one diving to take the chest because he realized that’s what he was ‘connected’ to.

Why?

He has no idea.

His first guess would be because the Jackdaw’s pirate flag had been stored in the chest after they sailed for Bristol.

Maybe the lingering attachment Edward had for the pirate’s life is what is keeping him tethered to the ship.

Once Aquila is constructed, he begins to haunt it.

The crew of the Aquila believes he is a dead sailor or maybe even one of the men that Achilles had killed before.

Achilles never saw him though.

To be more exact, Edward couldn’t appear before him.

No matter what he does.

He always return in the cabin whenever he is about to enter Achilles’ line of sight.

No.

When he’s about to enter the line of sight of any Assassins.

He can’t even contact anyone else. The moment he tries to come near them, he’s back in the captain’s cabin once more.

If someone was in the captain’s cabin, it was like he was completely invisible.

And he could not do anything.

Can’t even try and leave a message for Adéwalé any time he boards the Aquila.

He can’t even throw anything to defuse his rage after hearing that Haytham, his own son, had become a Templar.

All he could do was watch the sea as his rage slowly subsided.

And what’s left is pain and love.

The pain of knowing his son chose a path he could not approve and the indestructible love he felt for him even as he walked a path Edward would never approve.

Maybe there was a reason.

Maybe Edward simply want there to be a reason…

He didn’t want to believe his son would willingly join the organization that killed him without a reason.

What about Jenny?

Was Jenny alright?

Was she… still alive?

.

.

How many years have passed?

Since that fateful day…

He finally saw Haytham once more.

And he heard of Adéwalé’s death.

And now, all he can do is watch as Haytham destroys the Brotherhood in the colonies, leaving Achilles in pain and limping as he ordered the Aquila to return home.

.

.

.

.

.

He haunts a rotting ship.

He haunts a dying ship.

He doesn’t know what has happened to Haytham.

He does not know what happened to Jenny.

Was this his punishment for not being a good husband to Caroline?

He tried to be a good husband to Tessa but he knew that would never remove the stain of his failure as Caroline’s husband.

Was this his punishment for not listening to Jenny? For trying to selfishly keep her safe by marrying her off to someone who could provide her with everything she would ever need?

Was this his punishment for teaching Haytham before he could even understand what it means to be part of the Brotherhood?

Was this his punishment for believing Birch?

Was this…

His own personal hell?

His punishment for living when his friends, his fellow pirates, all died…

Was he meant to haunt this dying ship until it finally sinks deep into the waters below?

Alone in this cold prison…

“Hello?”

Edward turned at the sound of a young man’s voice.

He was tall with clothes that reminded Edward of the few natives that would sometimes board the Aquila when Achilles still held fire in his eyes.

“Are you one of Mr. Faulkner’s men?” The boy asked curiously.

Edward looked around, wondering who the boy was talking to.

Until he remembered.

It was just him.

His head turned back to the boy quickly as he asked, “Can you… can you see me?”

The boy frowned as he replied in a questioning tone, confused by the question itself, “Yes?”

Edward’s eyes widened.

Someone could see him.

But why?

“What’s your name, lad?”

“Ratonhnhaké:ton.” The boy replied before pausing for a moment. His brows furrowed as he added, “You may call me Connor.”

“Connor.” Edward repeated. He knew the name.

It was the name of Achilles’ late son.

He wasn’t that boy.

Who was he?

Why could he see him?

“Hello, Connor. My name is Edward Kenway.”

The boy frowned as he asked, “Are you related to Haytham Kenway?”

“Yes.” Edward couldn’t stop the resignation in his tone as he admitted, “I’m… his father.”

The boy’s frown deepened as he said, “But you don’t look old enough to be his father.”

“I stopped aging when I died.” Edward explained, waving a hand on himself as he said, “I’m a ghost haunting that chest over there.”

“Oh.” The boy blinked and seemed to mull it over before he nodded as he said, “It’s nice to meet you then, grandfather.”

“Nice to me- wait what?”

Familial Curse

Edward is going to be better than his parents.

He's already missed so much of Jennifer's life - she relates far more to her mother than to him, and rightfully despises how he left her and her mother for so long. He's working on mending that relationship, and Tessa is helping him as he goes. Jenny seems to be warming up to him, at least.

But he's going to be better than his own parents.

Haytham is a small baby, one that mostly cries and babbles. Edward refuses to miss his sons early years, not like he did with Jenny. He refuses to be so neglectful that he doesn't know anything about his son until he's seven years old. He will be better, do better.

Jenny approves, Tessa approves. Caroline approves, her ghost hovering over Haytham's crib and cooing back to the baby. Edward is going to be here for every step of his sons life. For every future step of his daughters life. He's going to help them, raise them high. He won't be like his parents - even if both his children choose to become Templars, he will never discard them, never disown them.

Edward is going to be a good father. Wanting is not enough. Edward will be a good father.

Haytham will never be a father.

Ziio has left him brokenhearted, though he can't exactly blame her for wanting him gone. Braddock could have survived his wounds, and Haytham had lied to her. Ziio was the only woman he could see himself settling down with, the only woman he could see himself starting a family with.

Haytham will never be a father.

Even still, he doesn't find himself mourning the lack of prospects. The colonies have plenty of orphans, and the Templars are some of the richest people here. If he desires to become a father in his later years, he can simply adopt an heir. But he doesn't desire fatherhood. His examples of fathers aren't exactly great - a pirate and his killer.

Edward was a good father, from what he can remember. From what he can admit to himself. Attentive and caring, one who both wanted Haytham to have fun and also to have stability. Even for a pirate, for an assassin, Edward Kenway was a good father when Haytham was a child. Haytham can admit that.

It's Birch's example that makes him hesitate.

How much of him, moulded by Birch, is rotten? Would he be better than the man, the one who the boy he used to be still loves? Would he mould a child into a warped mirror of himself, someone aware of the worlds problems, yet unable to change anything? Would he be forced to teach his own child how to kill his father's allies? Would teaching a child the sword end up with the weapon put through his own neck?

Birch killed his father and raised him to adulthood, and for that crime, Haytham killed him. Could he accept that fate for himself?

Haytham will never be a father. Even if he wants to become one, he will never sire a child. He will never bring a life into this cruel world.

Ratonhnhaké:ton is a good father, in his own opinion.

His children all love him, constantly climbing over his tall frame and running under his feet. His wife, and her family, seem to adore how attentive and caring he is towards not only his own children, but also all of the children in their village. Ratonhnhaké:ton carries all of the small stones his son gives him, all of the flowers his daughter gives him. He even carries the small shells Io:nhiòte sneaks into his pockets - even though the majority of them still smell like the ocean.

Ratonhnhaké:ton is a good father, but he's not sure if he was a good son.

Ratonhnhaké:ton doesn't often visit his Father's grave. He visits Achilles' grave far more often, making the trek to the Manor after the birth of each of his children to tell the old man about his children. He ventures there for every milestone, after every event. He's told all of his children of his old mentor, retelling the tales he still doesn't really care for, though he takes care to ensure that every word he says is the same. But he doesn't tell them about his Father, and doesn't tell his Father about them. He really isn't sure how to.

Ratonhnhaké:ton never had a strong relationship with Haytham Kenway.

But here he stands, at the edge of the cemetery, waiting for Shay Cormac to finish talking to his Father. Io:nhiòte had asked questions of his father, and Ratonhnhaké:ton is proud of his children, is proud of the man he grew to be, and the people his children are growing into. He wants to tell his Father of his children before he tells his children about him. So he waits for his Father's last soldier to finish his report to the cold soil, patient to share his fortune with the man he had to kill.

Ratonhnhaké:ton is a good father, even if he was never a good son. The Kenway name ends with Connor Kenway, and his children will be free of the shackles of that name. He is a good father, a terrible son, and the last person to bear the Kenway curse.

HAYTHAM KENWAY'S B-DAY, BABY !

Dear Assassin's Creed fans. Today is the fourth of December. Aka. Haytham Kenway's birthday. Because of that, I made a fanfic for his birthday. Enjoy ^^

A/n : Takes place in Forsaken. IT IS NOT CANON.

You remembered clearly when you were a child. Just turned eight years old, with your twin brother, Haytham. Your father's job ? It was a mistery for you and Haytham. And it seems Jenny knows what is it. You never bothered to ask, really.

After a hearthy breakfast (Which includes pieces of bread flying all around), the three of you decided to head to the theatre. Watching John Gay's 'The beggar's opera'. The one thing that you and Haytham wanted so desperately to see.After getting the tickets, You, Haytham, your Father, and your step-sister Jenny, sat on one of the soap boxes on the opera. As you sat, waiting, a man came to the box, clearing his throat.

"Miss Jennifer Kenway.." He started, only to be cutted off by Jenny.

"Jennifer Scott, if you please." She said, walking out. Before the man could chase her, your father, Edward, stopped him.

"My daughter, Jennifer, grew up with my wife. Caroline, Until she passed away some years ago." He started, making the man's eyes widened up like saucers.

"A-ah...Forgive my ignorance.." He said, bowing down.

"I will," He continued "She, may not." Before he could speak another word, Haytham got off his seat, tugging your Father's clothes gently.

"Father," He said, looking at Edward with pleading eyes.And with that, Edward just chuckled, saying to the man,

"But these two are Kenways." the man bowed before leaving the place, he turned around to see what's the problem.

"What's wrong, Haytham ?" Edward asked, Haytham just said. "I can't see the stage !" He then pointed a finger to (Y/n),

"She can't even see it too!"

"Why are you bringing me into this ?!"

"Because you're short."

"Hey !"Listening to this, Edward just chuckled.

"Well then, that might not be a problem." He said, picking up both the children.

"Up you go." He said, as Haytham glance the room in amazement, you couldn't help but too.

"Is it better ?" Your father asked.

"Yeah ! But Dad, won't your arms tire ?" You asked, earning a teasing face from him.

"Oy, I'm not that old, y'know. And if they do, how about we quit this posh gig and meet your mom for some chocolate and whites ?" He asked the both of you, earning delightful faces- especially from your twin.

"Yes please !" He said, earning a laugh from your father.

"Okay, now hush." As in right on queue, the theatre lights started to dim, Jenny coming back, leaning to the rail. Yes, this is the best day ever.

"Hey, (Y/n) ?" Haytham said.

"Yeah ?""Happy Birthday.

"You too."

"Lady (Y/n) ?"

"Lady (Y/n) ?"

A voice said, making you jolt up in surprise. Remembering you were in a carriage, it was nothing but remnants of a dream.

"Yes ?" You asked the coach as he opened the carriage, revealing a tree, where there is a single stone under the root. As you get down from the carriage, grabbing the bouquet of rosses, heading towards the tree.

"Hey, Haytham." You started, putting the flowers on top of the stone.

"Sorry I was late, I was busy, you know how busy Templars are, am I right ?" You said again, patting the gravestone.

"Say Hi to Dad, alright ? Happy birthday. I'll see you soon." You stood up, walking towards the carriage as the birds chirp in the distance, singing an uncertain melody.I

Notes:

Good capture of Halloween! This was filmed on the aisle so you can see some people getting up and walking around at times. LOTS of latecomers during ready set I had to get up to let people into the row, so there is no video there. The guy in front of me wouldn't stop moving so his head can come in and out of frame at times but it's always worked around.

Nice Capture of the new non-equity tour! There can be a head in the way at some points but it's worked around well. The video can be somewhat grainy at times due to how far I was + how dark the show was. Overall a great video of this incredible cast.
