“For what?” Ned asked curiously, searching Robb’s face for some sort of sign of what his son was talking about.

Like most children Rollam was very concerned with not appearing like a child. He had the great honor of being king Robb Stark’s squire, and he should always prove that he was worthy of that honor. He worked as hard as he possibly could, he was polite and respectful, and he thought he was doing a really good job. 

It was just that Rollam had never seen someone die. He had thought he would be ready, he had imagined fighting in the war alongside the king like a real knight, he had trained every free moment he had, he had thought he’d be ready. 

It was unclear what motivated the would be kingslayer, a young man whose name Rollam couldn’t remember through the haze and smell of blood. He remembered seeing the man draw a dagger and rush at Robb. He remembered calling out in warning and drawing his own sword, imagining he would disarm the traitor. And he remembered, vividly, the fight that followed. It lasted mere seconds before the man was on the ground, blood seeping into the earth. 

Rollam wished he could say he took it with a the cool, collected calmness a king’s squire should, but he didn’t. His stomach had turned, his eyes fixed on the man on the ground, and in a brief moment of clear thinking he had managed to rush off before the contents of his stomach was emptied out onto the grass.

He hadn’t expected to be followed, but here he was. His eyes were wet, his head spinning and his nose burned with the smell of blood that just wouldn’t let go. 

“I’m well, your grace,” he managed to say, though he felt his voice shake, draining his words of any credibility.

      there’s SILENCE from the sellsword as he gazes upon the young wolf. he is a different vision now, barely a shadow of his former self. TOO YOUNG TO DIE, bronn thinks – though bronn has never been a stranger to death. “i do what’s best for me.” he comments quietly; it’s how he’s always operated. it’s how he’s had to SURVIVE. there has never been someone to care for – not with the broken life back home. they are both boys of the north – a HARSH upbringing with the cold deep in their bones. bronn’s tried to run from it for his whole life, seeking warmth in dorne, in essos… 

“DEATH is a part of life, but you’re still alive. i don’t believe in the gods, not the ones at the godswood, not the new of the seven… but you LIVE, stark. is that not a sign for you to keep FIGHTING? would you already admit defeat?” he pauses, glancing away. tywin lannister would pay a lot of coin for robb stark’s head, but with tyrion captured… he shouldn’t care. there’s no point to care. “live, robb stark. live, and i will fight for you – and you can REPAY me when you win, king in the north.”
