I got a call a few days ago from #carminbutler - daughter of #leroybutlerart asking if I wanted to help sort through Mr LeRoy’s belongings and make sense out of 94 years of drawing, sketching, and all around living an amazing life. I jumped at the chance to help out. LeRoy and I became quick friends.. he invited me in his home on the first day we met, we set and talked for two hours about music, art and life. He told me stories about Sun Ra and Byard Lancaster. He told me secrets and shared his wisdom all while having the best sense of humor of any 90 year old that I know.. he passed a few weeks ago, and in this new world we live in he couldn’t be surrounded by friends or family. It seems very unfair and almost mean. I personally will miss him tremendously, he meant so much to his community, the arts community in Philadelphia.
