@bwbawards with EXCELLENCE SPOTLIGHT: Jacky Wright Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) HMRC Previously Corporate Vice-President and CIO, Microsoft. Jacky is one of the most senior black women in tech. She is one of only two women of colour previously at Microsoft to have earned the title of corporate VP, where she was in charge of the corporation’s IT Strategic Enterprises Services and oversees the team that tests products and develops a strategy to make them ready for public consumption. As the company’s link to BAME networks on a national and global level she drove new initiatives for diversity and inclusion. She headed the major initiative YearUp, which offers employment for underprivileged young people, growing the scheme from a few dozen young people to hundreds across the organisation. She was also primary leader for improved accessiblity for Microsoft products and services, ensuring people with disabilities have access to them. And she led Microsoft’s partnership with Modern Muse, a UK-based organisation connecting mentors with young girls to encourage them to stay engaged with STEM subjects. Jacky is a council member for City, University of London, and recently joined the national board of directors for Make-a-Wish America. She has received an honorary doctorate from America’s Aston University. Sharon has addressed controversial issues, not least the Murdoch brothers’ bid for 21st Century Fox to take over Sky in an £11.7 billion deal. The regulator’s report on the proposed deal was handed to Government this month (June) and a presentation is due in Parliament on June 29. Under Ofcom’s wide-reaching proposals for the BBC the regulator said it would establish a new Diversity Code of Practice and ask the BBC to report annually on how it has reflected, represented and served the diverse communities of the UK. Prior to her role at Ofcom, Sharon was one of the most powerful women in Whitehall, overseeing the UK’s spending cuts as a senior Treasury official."
