Here masks are still mandatory in many hospital wards (oncology, contagious illnesses, ICU, cardiotorax, etc...) and I hope it will be like that forever.

Actually I'm a bit surprised it wasn't mandatory even before covid, because you don't need a degree in medicine to understand that a patient in a hospital can have low immunitary defences, and spread germs around is probably a bad idea.
