Why Choose Economy Cars in Fiji?
Fiji’s tropical beauty and diverse landscapes make it a dream destination, but travel costs can add up. Opting to rent economy cars in Fiji allows you to save money while still enjoying the convenience of private transport. Economy cars are fuel-efficient, easy to park, and often more affordable than larger vehicles. Whether you’re planning a road trip around Viti Levu or just need a ride to zip around local towns, an economy car is perfect for budget-conscious travelers.
Finding the Best Car Rental in Nadi, Fiji
As Fiji’s main international gateway, Nadi is often the first stop for travelers. Conveniently, there are numerous car rental options in Nadi, Fiji. Renting a car here allows you to explore the island’s western coast, from the famous Natadola Beach to the lively Port Denarau Marina. Several car rental companies in Nadi provide a wide range of vehicles, including economy options that are ideal for solo travelers, couples, or small families.
When looking for a car rental Nadi Fiji, consider booking in advance, especially during peak seasons. Pre-booking allows you to compare rates and reserve the best deals on economy cars. With an economy car, you can take in Nadi’s sights without the stress of navigating public transport or paying for frequent taxis.
Exploring Labasa with Affordable Car Rentals in Fiji
While Nadi is bustling, Labasa offers a unique glimpse into a quieter side of Fijian life. Check for Insurance Options: Comprehensive insurance is highly recommended, especially if you’re planning to explore the rural parts of Fiji.
Look for Local Deals: Some rental companies offer discounts if you book for multiple days, so it’s worth asking about long-term rental deals.
Understand the Driving Requirements: Fiji drives on the left side of the road, so make sure you’re comfortable with this if it’s different from what you’re used to.
Enjoy Fiji with Budget-Friendly Car Rentals
With options to rent economy cars in Fiji for cost-effective travel, as well as private rental cars in Nadi for those who want a bit more comfort and seclusion, your dream island adventure is just a reservation away. While it may not be the largest city on the island, nor the capital, it remains one of the most popular due to its transportation connections. However, Nadi is not just a transit hub; it also offers plenty of rewarding experiences for visitors to enjoy. To inspire your next tropical getaway, here are a few of our favorite things to do while on Nadi tours.
Stroll Down Main Street
It’s the best place to start your Nadi tours. The commercial and tourist center of Nadi is located on the town’s main street! How you’ll find a variety of bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops. Take a stroll down Main Street and pick up a few souvenirs or gifts if you’re so inclined.
Shop the Nadi Town Market
For even more shopping opportunities, be sure to visit the Nadi Town Market. This bustling market is brimming with fruit and vegetable stands selling a diverse range of products sourced from local villages. It’s an excellent place to experience Fiji’s vibrant local culture and cuisine.
Drive Viti Levu
Hire a rental car and take a drive around the main island of Viti Levu. It will let you experience the real Fiji and get to know the local Fijians better. Diving in and getting the real experience, so give yourself a night or two! A quick boat ride is all it takes to reach the stunning islands off the west coast of Viti Levu. These beautiful islands offer a plethora of activities and attractions, from pristine beaches and world-class snorkeling and diving to hiking trails and cultural experiences. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore Fiji’s breathtaking island scenery during your trip.
Go island hopping
Soft white sands and crystal clear waters make Nadi a real paradise getaway. Charter a boat and set off to discover the Mamanuca Islands on a day trip. The chain of 20 islands makes it so beautiful. Spend the day hopping from one island resort to another, with breaks for dips in the turquoise waters.
Head to Denarau Island
If you’re in the mood for some sun, sand, and relaxation, consider a visit to Denarau Island. Make your way to Denarau Island, where you can find some of the best hotels and resorts in Nadi, as well as plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. This resort island is connected to the mainland by a causeway, making it easily accessible from Nadi.
Relax at a Resort
If you’re on vacation, why not look into a gaudy retreat, partake in the pools, the extraordinary food, and the seashores, and capitalize on your time in tropical Fiji? Here you can discover a portion of the nation’s best lodgings.
Take Advantage of the Mud Pools and Hot Springs at Sabeto
If you want to unwind, Then perhaps the best thing to do in Nadi Fiji is to visit the Sabeto Underground aquifers and Mud Pools. It is situated beyond the town. This is a one-of-a-kind, muddy experience that will bring you closer to nature! You’ll feel rejuvenated, at ease, and prepared for your next Fijian adventure after it.
Visit the Garden of the Sleeping Giant
This is one of Nadi Fiji’s most well-known attractions because it is so different from the town and the beaches. Fiji: 25 Things to be Aware of When Visiting
If you’ve booked a trip to Fiji, you’re in for an unforgettable experience.
You might think you’ve entered paradise, as the turquoise waters, towering palm trees, and the friendliest people on Earth surround you with peace and tranquility.
Fiji is one of the most popular and budget-friendly Pacific islands to visit (check out the affordable accommodation in Fiji), and you’ll be joined by many other travelers, from the adventure seekers to the ones determined to spend uninterrupted hours on the beach, soaking in the sun and scenery.
Still, it’s always important to be aware of the hidden treasures and dangers of your destination.
Here are 25 things you definitely need to know before heading to Fiji:
1. Almost everyone on Fiji speaks English, so you’ll be understood. However, to immerse yourself in the culture, here are some common words in Fijian:
Bula (boo-la): friendly greeting
Vinaka (vee-naka): thank you
Moce (mothay): good-bye
Koro: village
Sega na lega (senga-na-lenga): you’re welcome, no worries
Turanga (too-ranga): male
Marama: female
2. Fiji can be both very expensive and budget-friendly, depending on your taste and ability to haggle. By far the cheapest prepared food you’ll find in Fiji is at snack stands—but don’t worry, it’s still delicious.
3. If you’re making a trip to the outer islands (like Tivua island), take as much with you as possible. Drinks, food, and other essentials are roughly twice as much once you leave the main island.
4. When it comes to activities, Fiji leaves you never disappointed. Definitely make time for snorkeling—crystal clear visibility lets you explore an underwater wonderland you won’t find anywhere else on Earth.
5. If you want to really “get away”, visit Yasawa Islands. They’re popular due to the cheap accommodations and travel options, while remaining very secluded and tranquil.
6. Kava is a drink made with the pepper plant. It creates a numbing sensation in the mouth and has a relaxing effect on the drinker. It’s also a national fixture in the Fijian culture.
7. Savvy travelers make a point to visit all of Fiji, including the interior of the main island Vita Levu. Head into a gorgeous and vibrant rainforest on a river rafting tour, visit breathtaking waterfalls, and meet some of the friendliest people you’ll ever encounter.
8. Don’t expect to do much of anything on a Sunday except relax. Most businesses and travel are closed on Sunday in Fiji.
9. Don’t sit under palm trees, especially if you see coconuts lying nearby. You don’t want one of those to land on your head.
10. Time is more abstract in Fiji. You won’t see tons of clocks or watches. Take a cue from the culture, relax and enjoy the moment. Otherwise you’re going to need a lot of Kava.
11. There is electricity in Fiji, but you’ll want to bring a twin prong adapter with round poles so that you can plug in your modern devices: phones, laptops, and tablets.
12. When you arrive in Fiji, you’ll meet airport agents. These people are friendly and helpful, but make sure if you book some travel or holiday accommodation in Fiji with them that you get everything, including prices, in writing.
13. If you plan to book a rental car in Fiji, it’s best to book ahead of time online through global rental agencies. You’ll save money.
14. Paying for things in Fiji is easy. You do have to declare how much cash you’re bringing into the country when you arrive, and you can’t leave with more than you brought in. However, it’s simple to change your currency to the Fijian dollar, or simply use a major credit card.
15. Be proactive when taking a taxi. Ask for the price beforehand, and be aware that sometimes taxis won’t move until they’re full.
16. When you visit Nadi, you might find yourself invited into a welcome ceremony where you’ll drink kava and chat with the villagers, which is a very pleasant experience. Be aware that you’ll be asked to buy souvenirs after the ceremony is over, and they won’t be cheap.
17. It might be best to avoid shell markets. You’ll find tons of beautiful and interesting shells, but some of those shells come from endangered species and you might not be able to return home with it once you’ve purchased it.
18. You might encounter a friendly shop owner in Suva or Nadi who will ask for your name. A few minutes later you’ll discover that he has engraved your name on a wooden sword and is demanding payment.
19. However, the Municipal Market in Suva is an excellent place to shop for souvenirs. Be ready to haggle.
20. Most of the water in Fiji is safe to drink, but there are some locations where it might not agree with you, although locals will have formed a tolerance to it. To be safe, you can request that kava is made with bottled Fiji water.
21. It’s true no matter where you’re traveling, but remember to safeguard your valuables. Don’t think that a hotel room is always safe. Travel light.
22. Because electricity is at a premium in Fiji, you might want to stick with food that is made from local resources to avoid potential food poisoning, or stick to a vegetarian diet on your trip.
23. If you take tours, ride taxis, go horseback riding, or any other activity, it’s often best to go as a group and make sure you stay in sight of others. Most people on Fiji are friendly, wonderful, and kind, but there will always be someone trying to take advantage of naïve or timid travelers.
24. Black-banded sea snakes are deadly and they are in Fiji. Luckily they are also very passive and don’t typically bite. Still, keep your eyes open for these dangerous serpents and avoid them.
25. Finally, when you’re leaving Fiji, check your clothing and shoes for any burrs, shells, or plants that might have hitched a ride with you on a hiking trip or adventure. You don’t want to be stopped by customs because you didn’t clean out your pockets.
26. Enjoy your trip to Fiji. It’s a gorgeous country and you’ll be soaked in sunshine, warm waters, and beauty.
Keeping these tips in mind will help ensure you have a safe and fantastic vacation.

Week 9: here comes the rain again!
Monday morning dawned rather ominously cloudy. We decided to set out after breakfast for a walk to the local ecopark (conveniently just around the corner). As we finished breakfast it started to pour with rain. Nevermind we thought; these tropical downpours really teem it down for a bit but then they stop.
It didn’t stop. All day. By the late afternoon I got so stir crazy I decided to just put on my burkini and reef shoes, pop my iphone in a ziplock bag and go for a long beach walk listening to a podcast. Then I swam in the rain for a bit.
Tuesday we decided to resurrect the plan for Monday so after breakfast we wandered over the the ecopark. It wasn’t far but it was uphill and extremely humid, so I think we’d both lost about a stone by the time we arrived there. Immediately after entering the park (it was obviously a slow day) we were assailed with reptiles to hold. I refused to let them put a gecko on my head as I was at least 95% certain Sod’s law would lead it to defecate the second it was put on there.
Afterwards we wandered around looking at some cool corals under UV light, some birds (they have some nice coloured parrot-y beasts that knowing birds are probably endangered) and then at lunchtime they set up to feed their sea turtles. You got a dish full of fish bits to give them.
As I suffer from ichthyophobia, I decided to let Marcel do it. One them promptly bit him. I laughed. I then felt a burning pain in my arm and looked down to see a tiny fire ant. Marcel was fine 30 seconds later. I was still in pain 30 minutes later as we huddled in the cafe, because guess what- it was pouring with rain again! They had guinea pigs in the cafe gardens with their own umbrellas though so at least that was something.
It rained for the rest of the day. I repeated my walk and swim plan. The nice thing about walking in the pouring rain is you get miles and miles of beaches to yourself and it keeps the slightly sinister large packs of stray dogs from the village under tree cover.
The following day we’d decided to rent a car for the day to explore some nearby sand dunes. Our flight left at the frankly traumatising hour of 7am the following day, so whilst we finished up with the car rental chaps, we asked reception to arrange a taxi for us. Then we went up to our room to pack a day pack.
10 minutes later there was a rather insistent knocking at our door. It was the receptionist and the head of the local taxi firm, explaining that the roads to the airport were currently flooded and that since more rain was forecast, it we didn’t leave right now whilst the tide was low we probably wouldn’t be able to get to the airport at all (where we were staying,, the Bedarra Beach Inn was the other side of the island). Slightly sceptical (and also not wanting to vacate our room at speed) I googled it to find lots of pictures of the airport town underwater. And at this point the teeming rain started again. So we rapidly booked another hotel by the airport, got a refund of our current car rental and our hotel room for the last night (both were kind enough to do that), shovelled everything in sight into our suitcases and ran out of the hotel.
The drive was a race against the tide, with the added fun of cows in the road (cows don’t like it muddy so come and hang out on the elevated roads). As we entered Nadi, the car had to go through a stretch of 2ft deep water and our taxi driver was getting very concerned he wouldn’t make it back out of Nadi and back to our side of the island, so he fairly threw us out of the car at our airport hotel. We then spend a fairly boring afternoon watching rain fall from our airport hotel and having a very mediocre dinner plagued by mosquitos and the world’s worst bar singer.
Now as Marcel has aged he has become increasingly paranoid to be at the airport early (I should never have introduced him to my mother; her paranoia about missing flights seems to be catching). So despite the fact we were OPPOSITE the airport, he made us leave the hotel at 5am for our 7am flight. We were there at 5.01am. There was basically us and a check in counter lady at the airport. We were at our gate at about 5.04am. Luckily the depatures lounge there had huge couches to nap on in addition to a WH Smith (unexpected in Fiji).
Naturally after rising hours before dawn our plane was late.
I dislike propeller planes intensely so can’t say I was thrilled to spend 2.5 very turbulent hours in one, but we did make it to Samoa (unsurprisingly, since you are reading this) and we were at our resort in time for a late lunch. It was….raining. Thankfully I was too tired to be cross and the rest of the day was just spent getting to know the four resident stray cats that begged for scraps/all the creamer from the minibar (we ended up nicknaming them Pancake [always turned up to beg at breakfast when our pancakes arrived], Meep cat [she meowed a lot], Romeo [creepy older lothario] and Babou-cat [reminded us of our Babou]) and taking a walk to explore the beach along from us. The hotel only had us and two other couples staying, so the ratio of staff was about 5 to 1.
The next day was kind of crappy weather wise (to be expected now) so we just read books and took the hotel double kayak out and explored some nearby mangroves, which was nice and it being a double kayak meant I could be lazy and let Marcel do all the paddling work whilst claiming I was very busy checking for rocks (the water was shallow).
When we’d booked the hotel, Marcel had found out you got a free upgrade if you told them you informed them you were on your honeymoon. Marcel wanted to tell them as technically we are. I didn’t, because I was concerned they’d make a big deal out of it and I hate enforced romance. Marcel said they wouldn’t and the discount would be worth it. Since day one had passed without ordeal, I had started to relax.
Then we went to dinner. To find our table adorned with flowers spelling out M & R with a giant heart and (as our waiter informed us) a big crucifix to remind us that “Jesus is between you” (wouldn’t have thought Jesus would be into that sort of kink, but what do I know, I’m not religious). Slightly mortified, but only two other couples there so I thought we could push through it.
Then the bar band stops the music to congratulate us on our honeymoon and tell us that they hoped God would bless us with 20 children. I’m dying a little inside now. Then they announce they are going to play a special song and we have to come up and dance. My only consolation at this point is Marcel is SO much more embarrassed than me (and he hates dancing). Somehow we made it through it and we will now work hard to repress this horror.
Saturday was much like Friday, only we went kayaking in a different direction and there was no dinner mortification.
Sunday for a change was BEAUTIFUL weather-wise. Hot, sunny, no wind.
We decided to celebrate by going out snorkelling. We unfortunately did not plan this well with the tides. We swam out and saw loads of fish and I saw a huge sea turtle. We then decided to head back in and found the tide had gone out, leaving us with about 8 inches of water above the reef to swim (with just our arms, no room for flippers, sucking in our stomachs) back to shore. That bit was long and not very enjoyable.
Once we got back we alternated between the beach and the sea to swim and kayak. At one point some other tourists turned up (felt rude, by Saturday night we were one of two guests in the hotel) but then they redeemed themselves by finding a starfish whilst fishing and giving it to me to hold (I’m pretty sure starfish don’t like being held so I’d never pick one up myself but if someone Chinese with limited English so I can’t explain why I don’t think they like being picked up offers me one to hold I’m not going to say no). It had loads of weird feelers on the bottom like tiny snail tentacles. It was pretty cool and mildly gross.
Back in the sun, holding a weird sea creature in bath tub temperature water, it was pretty hard to remember the rainy start to the week. Thank God. Glad the rain stopped in Samoa as I was about to consider an alternative career as a rain shaman for drought-stricken countries.
