my friends allowed me to semi doxx myself on this beautiful holiday time and share some information about my beloved hometown now that i am moving out. its a beautiful place where 4 days a year are spent on huge celebration of ceramics (mostly our ceramics but there are merchants from different parts of the region, poland, and even other countries, like czechia and hungary) durning which we can if we want dress up as anything we want and bath ourselves in clay and take part in the clay people parade. there is a designated station for clay bathing and you can take part in the best costume contest. its a big and important part of the event that due to covid and also a lawsuit has died down in recent years, but has come back this year with the spirit of the ones i used to see and participate in as a child; not as big as they used to be, but maybe it will become so again in the future. [Bryce stayed calm and composed in this situation. He didn't want to ruin this good night, so he kept the conversation going saying he did know her. But he needed to speak to Renee alone. Leilani could tell this from Bryce's expression and so she asked Vincent for a tour of the restaurant, to give them some alone time]

Renee: Dad you look worried, what's wrong? Don't tell me it's to do with Vince… Bryce: Please don't get upset with me darling but [heavy sigh] are you sure about Vince? Renee: Why are you asking me that? From the dinner, you seemed to really like him.

Bryce: I know. I do really like him, but I'm not so sure about his Mum or his family even. Renee: [gets upset] What does that have anything to do about our relationship? Bryce: His Mum and I have history. Let's just say she cheated on me, so I don't have a good feeling-

Renee: [stands up] What?! You didn't say any of that just then! I didn't even know you dated anyone else. Bryce: That's all in the past. You don't need to know any of it. Renee…we can see that Vince makes you happy and your happiness is what matters the most to us. But I want you to be careful with him ok?

Renee: Dad...not everyone is like their parents. I think you're seeing too much of his Mum in him and you're judging him based on that along with your past experience. He's his own person. Like you said, it's all in the past. From the way Vince talks about her, surely things have changed and she's not the same person you knew.

Bryce: [hugs her] Renee, I'm looking out for you, I don't want you to get hurt again. Renee: He won't hurt me Dad. Vince is a good guy. Even Billy says that and don't you trust him? Bryce: [reflects back on his own words] You're right. I trust him with my whole heart.

I`ve been rewatching the car scene from episode 4 and there`s that moment just after “Alone And Forsaken” starts to play when Joels face changes completely. There is something so soft about this expression, he`s not quite smiling, but his face relaxes, he closes his eyes and he looks like he got lost in a memory. And you can see it’s a good one, a safe one. To me that would suggest that it was something from way before.

Because thats a face of a person that got reminded of something from his childhood. Something half-forgotten until someone brings it up and you remember it as vividly as if it was yesterday. Every texture, every sound and every smell. And you can’t help, but smile, cause it was so long ego, but also not really, you`re still the same person. And music is like magic, it`s the only time machine we have, works every time!

And that got me thinking! If this music is from before Joel`s time, is it possible it`s something his father used to listen to? His favorite road trip music maybe? And Joel was the one in the backseat, just like Ellie is now, going crazy from boredom, asking a million questions, waving at the passing cars or making crazy faces and then hiding? And then when Tommy was old enough was it both of them playing or fighting and driving their father mad in a process?

It breaks my heart in the best way because this is just the beginning of Joels journey and hes changed so much already, to the point hes able to access this small part of himself and it makes him feel soft, even if just for a second.  Makes him think about a time everything was simpler, sweeter, kinder? Somehow those memories survived all those years completely unscathed, as if they`ve existed in a protective bubble untouched by anything that came after. They`ve formed their own little universe where Joel`s small hands knew nothing of violence or survival yet, just toys and ice cream cones. Nothing of the nightmares to come, just a moving car, his dad`s favorite song and his little brother annoying the hell out of him. A small moment preserved forever on the Hank Williams cassette tape.

I like to think that Sanji does all the driving, but he’s quite a nervous driver when going places he’s unfamiliar with and Zoro surprisingly being the one to be able to keep him calm and on track. Obviously, Zoro’s still horrendous with directions but I’d like to think with a satnav he’d be alright (Y’know how it has everything all visualised and stuff).
