The possibility of a Resonance Cascade is never zero.
It is, however, always nearly zero. The chances, day to day, of a Resonance Cascade, are approaching 5e-9. Not impossible. But about as low as a titanic pair of fingers reaching out from the void to snuff out our sun like a reading candle.
But at Black Mesa, they were studying the dimensional barriers that separated this space from that space. Which is where the chances are raised dramatically. At the beginning, at the first discovery of the signals that indicated that some sort of “Border World” existed, the chances of a Resonance Cascade was raised to 6e-9. Still miniscule, but the simple awareness of another reality is enough to raise it.
When the first experiments into observing it occurred, Quantum Mechanics kicked in. The simple act of direct observation changes things-And so, the chances jumped suddenly. 6e-8 percent chance of Resonance Cascade.
This is when Black Mesa had a visitor. He had all the proper credentials, never gave them a real name, spoke like a broken robot, and he always seemed to stare past whoever he was talking to-like they weren’t even there. A picture perfect G-Man type, here to give them lots of money nobody officially knows about to keep researching, so Someone Else didn’t know before America.
Well, they assumed it was for America.
7e-7 Percent Chance of a Resonance Cascade.
Director Breen met with him, and secured more than enough funding to develop the technology needed to transfer matter back and forth between this “Borderworld” that they had named “Xen”. He assigned some of Black Mesa’s best to the project. Isaac Kleiner, Eli Vance, Arne Magnusson, Richard Keller, Stan Rosenberg...the greatest minds in their field (and under Black Mesa’s employ. Damned Aperture, poaching Ratmann...)
Another massive jump. 9e-5 Percent Chance. And this was not just simply mathematic calculation that was determining these things-As the pieces moved together that would eventually result in a Resonance Cascade, the fabric of reality was actively weakening, making the process all the easier.
Do you understand what’s being said?
The progress the Black Mesa Team made seemed exponential. When at first, the most they could transfer were simple probes...they soon discovered a frequency that would open holes in space. They sent teams-Ill fated as they were-to collect samples. Both Mineral and Biological.
1e-3 percent chance. Or, in clearer layman’s terms, a Resonance Cascade had .001 percent chance of occurring. That number would be catastrophically high, if they had understood what a Resonance Cascade actually meant.
Three men, around the same time, are promoted. Gordon Freeman becomes a Research Assistant on the Anomalous Materials team, working directly under his MIT mentor, Isaac Kleiner. Barney Calhoun is granted Level 3 Security Clearance and meets the previously mentioned men, becoming fast friends. Corporal Adrian Shepard joins the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit of the United States Marines, fast-tracked there by recommendation by an unnamed high ranking official. The HECU marines are ostensibly meant to counteract unconventional enemies in dangerous areas and tight corridors. While a heroic description to the outsider, the simple truth is they are meant to clean up any mistakes that could lead to deserved scrutiny towards what the military is actually funding.
The chances are .01 percent.
Experiments begin to determine the composition of certain crystalline structures discovered in the Borderworld, and the nature of the energy they seem to hold. Doctor Rosenberg develops a variant of the more common mass spectrometer to analyze these exotic materials, under the watchful eye of that G-man.
The Anti-Mass Spectrometer is theorized, developed, and constructed.
There is a 1% chance of a Resonance Cascade.
Experiments begin. Incredible things are learned from the first samples- HG-1866, HP-1937, IA-1992 are all immediately replicated and put into use for the development of Tau Cannons, localized gravitational displacement through Zero Point Energy Emission, and further stabilization of the portal generation. Experiments continue on living tissue from the Borderworld. But a problem arises.
All of the samples have certain impurities, non-exotic matter that prevented certain data from being gathered. Namely, the origin of this matter-the way to make more, not just synthesize similar material.
Director Breen is approached by the G-Man. He has something to provide Black Mesa-A sample purer than any they’d ever gotten their hands on. Breen asks no questions, as the two had...come to an understanding.
The sample is christened “GG-3883″, a tongue in cheek reference to a phrase Doctor Breen’s son often repeated during his time playing the online shooter “Quake”. After all, when Black Mesa came out with the fact that they’d discovered free multiversal travel and near infinite energy, it would be the absolute end of their rivalry with Aperture. The director sent the sample off for analysis, no matter how unstable it may have been, with a self-assured certainty that he would go down in history as one of the most important figures in the field.
If only he knew.
Chance of a Resonance Cascade had reached 13%, and was climbing as the sample was brought closer and closer to the Anti-Mass Spectrometer. Some work is done to prevent it, however-Safety measures are put in place in the time before the experiment. The chances of a Resonance Cascade are lowered to “only” 7%.
Gordon Freeman wakes up late after snoozing his alarm one too many times, and must rush to get ready. He rides the Black Mesa Transit system. His car pulls into the station.
Barney Calhoun is locked out of the security office.
Adrian Shepard is finishing a morning jog.
9% of Resonance Cascade.
Gordon Freeman climbs into the Hazard Environment Suit Mark 4, a variant of Black Mesa’s advanced body armor systems that increased physical capability, featured modular ports for various pieces of equipment, and generated a low-yield battery powered energy shield for the partial deflection and absorption of small projectiles and other dangers common to the work they were doing. Everyone called it a “Hev Suit”.
Barney Calhoun is finally let in, pulling on his own variants that were developed for the security guards. Bulletproof vests and helmets, containing the same type of battery powered field generation...even if charge was less potent. At least it didn’t mean every single guard was walking around with a 127,000$ piece of equipment...
Adrian Shepard inspects his Powered Combat Vest, a military produced variant of the HEV suit’s technology, along with his other equipment. The others in his unit are joking around. He’s making sure that if their helicopter crashes, he won’t get impaled on the wreckage or suffocate from an improperly secured gas-mask. A grim man, that Adrian Shepard. But not a paranoid one. At least...not unjustly paranoid.
13% chance of a Resonance Cascade.
Gordon Freeman is shortly briefed, before witnessing a major equipment malfunction in one of the support systems for the Anti-Mass Spectrometer. The safety measures have been lowered to their absolute limit for a safe reading of the exotic matter present in sample GG-3883. Eli Vance and Isaac Kleiner stay behind to repair it as best they can, but doubts are expressed for the safety of this experiment. Not only was this the largest sample ever put through the analysis procedure, it was the purest and most unstable. The system cannot handle this. Nevertheless, Gordon descends, beginning the process to prepare the Anti-Mass Spectrometer.
27% chance of Resonance Cascade.
Barney Calhoun notices the lights flickering above, as the strain on the facility’s generators is too great to maintain everything. The air feels wrong, the people are uneasy, but they aren’t sure why.
33% chance of Resonance Cascade.
Adrian Shepard showers alone once the others had finished, as he preferred the quiet. He steps out and stares into the mirror. Did he ever plan for a life other than this? Was he going to be a grunt, doing wetwork until he died? Would he ever grow old? Did he even want the chance?
These are the things a quiet man thinks when he trains to murder civilians for knowing too much, when he knows nothing at all.
49% chance of Resonance Cascade.
The sample is brought up. The Spectrometer is powered to levels that the system cannot handle for an extended period. Gordon Freeman pushes the sample in.
100% of Resonance Cascade
At once, the machinations of two vast powers clash. A meddler who has carefully manipulated the pieces into position, who provided funding, who held authority and power despite not a single living human recognizing him. Who had changed things...made sure certain discoveries were made, and others were not. Who had done all this, changed the course of human history...Because his employers had a vendetta against Something Else Entirely, using the Resonance Cascade as a flare to bring them to this world.
But at the same time, a vast psychic force, master of an enslaved race of enlightened psychics, creator of twisted weaponized flesh and guns that shoot bees at you, a creature that had harnessed its own power and the power of its thralls to peer into the world beyond them-and the worlds that were yet to be-and it knew of the meddler’s plans. A conflict with the force he had directed his enmity towards was not something the creature could allow, as an invasion of Earth...would pass through it’s Borderworld.
So, the creature took control of the Cascade. In most situations, a Resonance Cascade occurred when an object begins to vibrate at the exact frequency required to begin “Resonating, meaning it has started to emit energy that causes the same reaction in other matter, which then cause the reaction both in the original matter and the matter around them, massively weakening the fabric of space and the barriers beyond one world and the worlds that border them. This chain reaction was self sustaining, but did not spread laterally in the space it originated. Instead, it would spread to other worlds-Exchanging matter between them at random as the two spaces began to blend.
The Psychic Force stopped the cascade in Xen, forcing it to focus on sustaining the reaction between just those two worlds, weakening its hold...but allowing it to send its forces (And hostile wildlife) to Earth, to destroy the systems that caused this-To stop the cascade with the death of every human in the facility. To this end, it maintained the cascade in a lesser form.
The Meddler had predicted something of this sort. He had...preparations in place. Including two agents of chaos...
Gordon Freeman awakes to the destroyed remains of the Anti-Mass Spectrometer, dazed and confused. He has seen alien worlds, and nearly died several times. They won’t be the last for a very long time.
Adrian Shepard’s unit is alerted to their next deployment. They gear up, enter the choppers, and ride. A Manta Ray that shits lasers destroys their helicopter, and Adrian Shepard is glad he charged his vest that morning.
Barney Calhoun desperately tries to escape the deadly forces that were flooding the facility. He was not a piece in a cosmic game. He was just...some guy.
An unexpected enemy appears. Marauders that only seek to steal resources before greater threats stake claim on this newly opened world. They are repelled by the Meddler’s more trained agent, as Adrian Shepard trades one amoral faceless master that decided who he killed for another.
But the Psychic Force...The Nihilanth. Its death would come by a different hand. One clad in orange and black, swinging a bright red strip of metal. Gordon Freeman frees a race, stops an alien invasion, and was prepared to die in an impossible world for his troubles-all to save lives. But he did good work. He was the right man for the job. He’s “Hired”.
In the end, the Meddler’s plans worked better than anyone could expect. His true targets were alerted, preparing their forces to take the Earth. The lesser marauders repelled and the psychic barrier dealt with, making the blue marble seem an even sweeter prize. Several agents obtained for his schemes, to be deployed when and where they would be appropriate. Dangerous alien life and Portal Storms-the aftershocks of a Resonance Cascade-prevented the governments from truly being able to prepare.
The Combine arrive. The war lasts seven hours. Wallace Breen negotiates humanity’s surrender. Isaac Kleiner and Eli Vance firmly disagree with this course of action. Judith Mossman, another survivor of the Black Mesa Incident, is less sure.
The last human child for the next two decades is born. The Combine establish a field that prevents human procreation. Other hostile alien life begins to take hold-Antlion Nests, hives of Headcrabs, Barnacles spreading, ichthyosaurs stalking the oceans and lakes. Combine weapons-made from heavily modified creatures from previous conquests-are regularly deployed, roaming the streets in shows of force. Humans are converted into their police, enhanced infantry, special forces...and lobotimized worker slaves.
The Meddler waits for a red-letter day, and he chooses his agent carefully. To destroy a machine like the Combine, one needed not a precision implement. Military training would do nothing against a force that conquered worlds in hours. No, Adrian Shepard-a knife in human sheath-would be unfit for this.
What one needed to destroy the Combine was a blunt thing. A force of chaos that couldn’t be stopped. Whose strength was matched only by his luck. His intelligence, matched only by his willingness to do things like drive a muscle car into hyper-agile flechette-firing cyborgs, or throw a toilet at a man’s face so hard his skull is obliterated and he backflips twice before hitting the ground. Or fight a helicopter from an airboat equipped with a fully automatic plasma cannon.
To break a machine of World Consumption, the G-Man would ram a crowbar into the mechanism, just where it can cause the maximum damage-and keep causing damage to the entire thing. The right man in the wrong place.
Gordon Freeman wakes up on a train car, as it pulls into the City 17 station, deeply confused and disoriented. The moment he steps out, a floating camera photographs his face-which would soon enough be processed and identified as Anticitizen One, Gordon Freeman, the most wanted man on the planet-who had been gone for twenty years and looked identical to the day the Black Mesa Incident occurred. Minus the ponytail. His old boss is on a giant viewscreen. One of the aliens he used to fight is sweeping. Cops in gasmasks maintain a fascist state and he’s somewhere in Eastern Europe. His confusion and disorientation deepens severely.
Wallace Breen receives notice that Gordon Freeman had been sighted. A pit forms in his stomach. He feels a familiar hand in this. Within a few days, he will be screaming high-concept threats from an ascending sphere of energy as a former research assistant flings tightly condensed plasma orbs at him with a gravity cannon.
The G-Man continues to meddle, despite the intervention of a hive mind of benevolent psychics. His plans are, for the most part, undeterred. However...
He begins to regret deploying Gordon Freeman. Chaos, while able to be directed, is quite hard to wrangle when it’s gotten loose. For now, Freeman continues to act in favor of the disruption of Combine operations. But...his personal connection to a secondary objective-another new agent to recruit-sours the G-man’s elation at a plan more or less well executed. The end of this, however, is still untold.
Because who fucking knows when they’re making Half Life Goddamn 3.

This Car of Mine
When Felix experiences some car troubles, he finds himself immediately taken with the mechanic who comes to his rescue.
guess who’s back, back again, with yet another au.......yep......it’s me. enjoy!!
There’s a party goin’ on right here,
A celebration to last throughout the year...
Felix hummed along to the radio and drummed his fingers against the steering wheel as he came to a stop at a red light. Leaning forward to glance out the windshield, he frowned slightly at the dark clouds that loomed overhead. He was on his way to meet a date at a nearby restaurant, and he feared this bad weather might force him to cut their night short. That wouldn’t be too bad, he supposed. It had been quite some time since he had been on a date, and if he was being honest with himself, he wasn’t all that excited about the events that were lined up before him tonight. His date was nice enough, but there was no real connection there, no spark.
The traffic light turned green, giving him no more time to ruminate on the situation. He lifted his foot off the brake and pressed down on the gas, but his car remained in place. Pressing down a bit harder, he could hear his engine responding, yet his car still refused to budge. The cars behind him were growing increasingly impatient, honking their horns at him. He hastily put his hazard lights on and waved for the other drivers to go around him while he tried to assess the situation.
Just as he thought to get out and take a look under the hood, it began to rain. Panic set in as he realized that he was stuck here until the weather improved. He had always been a bit claustrophobic, and being stuck inside his truck during a storm was quickly fraying his nerves. Suddenly, a figure appeared at his window, and he yelped loudly at the unexpected visitor. He couldn’t make out a face due to the hood they wore to shield themselves from the rain. The stranger motioned for him to roll down his window and he complied.
“Put it in neutral,” they said.
Felix nodded, trying with all his might to steady his breathing as he shifted his car into neutral. Looking back up at the window, he realized the stranger was no longer standing next to his car. In the side mirror, he caught a glimpse of them walking around the back of the truck, placing their hands on the back bumper and beginning to push. His car slowly began to roll forward, and Felix quickly shifted in his seat, looking ahead to try and figure out where he was being pushed. He spotted a mechanic shop up ahead and began steering his car toward the driveway. Within just a few minutes, his car was safely situated inside the garage, and he climbed down out of the driver’s seat.
“Thank you so much for your help,” Felix said, approaching his savior at the back of his truck. “I’m Felix.”
“Calhoun,” answered the stranger.
“Well, it’s very nice to meet you,” he replied. “You don’t know how grateful I am for--”
Felix paused suddenly as his companion pulled off their hooded jacket and he finally got a good look at their face. Before him stood a stunning woman with piercing blue eyes and short blonde hair that covered half of her face. She wore a dark grey jumpsuit with her last name embroidered on the chest, and he immediately noticed that he had to look up to see her face. She was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen, and by far the strongest. He almost couldn’t believe this was the same person who had just singlehandedly pushed his car here.
“...For?” she repeated, visibly irritated with his ogling her.
“For you coming to my rescue out there,” Felix finished, shaking himself out of his daze. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare, it’s just that--”
“What, not used to seeing a woman in the garage like this?” she smirked.
“No, it’s not that,” Felix replied. “I’ve just never seen anyone push a car all by themselves like that. How’d you get to be so strong?”
“I’ve had lots of practice,” she answered, rounding the truck in an attempt to hide her smile from him. She had never been this affected by flattery, but she could feel the sincerity in his words. “Now, tell me what happened here.”
Calhoun popped the hood and began taking a look at the engine. Felix came around next to her.
“Well, everything was fine until I stopped at that red light,” he explained. “When the light turned green, I pressed on the gas pedal but the car wouldn’t move.”
“Looks like your fuel filter’s clogged,” she replied, pointing it out to him. “I can probably get that replaced for you within the hour.”
“Oh, thank you,” Felix said. “That’s a relief.”
“Let me go grab the parts I need, I’ll be right back.”
Once she had left the room, Felix pulled out his cell phone to call his date. He had never stood anyone up before, and he certainly wasn’t going to start now.
“Hello, Pauline? Hi, I’m sorry I’m not at the restaurant,” he said, pacing back and forth as he spoke. “My car broke down on the way there, so I’m at the mechanic getting it looked at now.”
Behind him, Calhoun walked back into the garage with a new fuel filter in hand.
“I hate to do this to you at the last minute, but I don’t think I’m going to make it to dinner tonight,” he said, and Calhoun couldn’t help but overhear him as she approached his truck. “It could take a while for them to get everything fixed, and I don’t want to keep you waiting. I’m really sorry.”
Calhoun leaned up against his car as he hung up the phone, her arms crossed across her chest.
“Is there a reason you’re lying to your date?” she asked, smirking in amusement as he jumped in surprise at the sound of her voice behind him.
“Well, I...” he trailed off, trying to think of a reasonable excuse, before sighing in defeat. “If I’m bein’ honest, I wasn’t much looking forward to that date. I never really wanted to go on it in the first place, but she asked me and I didn’t want to hurt her feelings.”
“Ooh, I didn’t realize I was dealing with a ladykiller here,” she teased.
“It’s not like that, I swear!” he said defensively. “I haven’t been on a date in a long time and everyone kept tellin’ me I should put myself back out there, but as it got closer I realized I just wasn’t feelin’ up to it.”
“I understand,” she said as she got to work on his truck.
“I do like Pauline, and of course I enjoy spending time with her, but I guess I just don’t really feel a connection in that way,” he explained.
“Oh, don’t tell me you’re one of those hopeless romantics who believes there has to be some sort of spark in order for a relationship to work.”
“You don’t?”
“No,” she answered, removing the fuel filter from his engine. “It’s foolish to make a commitment based on feelings. Feelings are fleeting, they change. Making a relationship work is a choice, one you have to keep making every day.”
“I don’t disagree with you,” he replied. “But don’t you think there should be something there? Even just an inkling of a feeling?”
“In my experience, chasing after a spark only gets you burned,” she said, avoiding eye contact with him as she placed the new filter.
“Oh,” Felix said quietly, his chest tightening with guilt as he realized he must have struck a nerve. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up any bad memories.”
“Nothin’ to be sorry for,” she said, her eyes still cast down toward his engine. Finally, she looked back up at him. “Look, not that it’s any of my business, but if you don’t want to go out with this girl then maybe you should just tell her that. It’s better than stringing her along.”
“You’re right,” he conceded.
“But, just in case you need another excuse to avoid going out with her, you’re gonna need to bring your car back tomorrow,” she said with a small smile. “The filter’ll hold you for a bit, but it looks like the fuel pump might need to be looked at, too.”
“I’ll be sure to bring it by after work tomorrow,” he said, a small rush of butterflies fluttering in his stomach as she smiled at him.
“Here’s my card in case it gives you any more trouble before then,” she said, pulling a business card from her pocket and handing it to him.
“Thank you, ma’am,” he replied, gingerly running his thumb over her name and phone number. “And thanks again for saving me out there. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably still be panicking in the driver’s seat.”
“Not a problem, Felix,” she said. “That’s what I’m here for.”
“Well, you have a good night, Miss Calhoun,” he said, unable to control his blushing as she spoke his name. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
As he climbed back into his truck and pulled out of the garage, he couldn’t help but smile as he thought about Calhoun. He had only just met her, but he already felt more of a connection with her than he had felt with anyone else in a long time. The prospect of seeing her again tomorrow made him giddy, and he rushed home, leaving his mind--and heart--back in the mechanic’s shop.

Dollywood Review
Welp, now I know one of my friends knows of my Tumblr, so I kinda have to put this up.
Tuesday: -Travel day. Drove from home to Tennesse in about ten hours with the stops. Made more than we should have, but that’s mostly because one gas station was being a pain with my card, so I cash prepaid a bit and then got out of there cuz I was pissed at the damn machine. -Was snowing when we left our home in Ohio. Once we got near Cincinnati, no more snow! NO MORE SNOW! -Lovely scenery on the way to Pigeon Forge. -Once again, my mind saves me from boredom. I wanted to put Critical Role on in the car, but with three other people, it would be a captive audience. y mind instead went to dumb and fantasy scenarios to pass the time as I shuffled the music on my phone. -HOLY SHIT Pigeon Forge is such a tourist trap! There’s so much stuff to do there! We only went for Dollywood, but we are considering going back to do more touristy things. -The hotel we stayed at, the Music Road Hotel, was GORGEOUS! We loved it. Beds were a bit weird for me; I kept tossing and turning one night, and I think it was the firmness of the bed. Dunno. -After we got settled, we heard about this alpine coaster, which is a track that uses the mountainside to have a coaster-like experience. The one we heard of first, Pigeon Forge Alpine Coaster, was unfortunately closed for seasonal repairs. BUT, it was set to reopen Friday, the day we leave. We decided to do it then. -Went down the road some more and found ANOTHER alpine coaster not too far from the first one. It was called the “Goat Coaster” at Goats on the Roof of the Smokey Mountains. Loved it, great start. -Went to a place called Calhoun’s for dinner. Pretty good place. Had my only glass of booze for the whole trip there. I liked my chicken sandwich, but I wish they put honey mustard on it. -Went back to the hotel and found out one of my friends brought his Nintendo Switch! We played Mario Kart until it was time for bed. We had Dollywood in the morning!~
Wednesday: -The first day of Dollywood! -Decent breakfast at the hotel. Too used to bacon, cuz they had none and I was sad. They had some good tea, though! -Got to everything we wanted to, so this’ll be the long one. -CUBBIES! Oh my gods. Every single ride had cubbies for stuff! Love it! -Played Pokemon Go a lot of the time at Dollywood in between rides. Got a lot of pokemon and powered up a couple I already had. Got my first Moltres there <3 -First up was Lightning Rod. Pretty fun ride. Has a lot of airtime that kinda jerks you a bit. Could do with a little more padding but it doesn’t really hurt ya. -Had some fun doing some flat rides. The Carousel, bumper cars, swings, sky rider, Dizzy Disk. Pretty fun. -Went and got some of the supposedly famous cinnamon bread. It was good, but not overly so. But that’s also not the thing I’m overly into. -Brainstormer was fun, always good to have a giant swing ride. -Saw the park had its own Bald Eagle preserve and displayed some other birds like owls, hawks, and a raven! You never know how big ravens actually are until you see one! They’re twice as big as you think they are. Beautiful birds. -Blazing Fury was kinda boring dark ride. It was interesting to have a fire figther theme, but they didn’t really do much with it. -The Tenesse Tornado was really fun! Even though it was mostly just a few loops. Short, but sweet. But the walk to the loading station was so darn long! Kinda common for these rides. -Wild Eagle! Probably one of my favorite rides in the park! Nice wing coaster with awesome airtime and the turns take you by surprise in the back! -Firechaser Express was a fun little family ride. The surprise backward part was fun! -Drop Line was a fun little drop tower that spun you on the way up! Still think the one in King’s Island was better. -Had some trouble with Thunderhead at first. It’s an older wooden coaster so younger coaster enthusiasts will think it’s bumpy. Take my advice that I learned on the second day; sit in the back, it’s tamer back there and you get sweet airtime on the turns. -We hit the water rides next cuz it was in the seventies and we didn’t want to do  them the second day cuz it dropped to the fifties. We hit River Rampage first. We didn’t get as soaked as we were expecting, but most of our pants were soaked while our tops were mildly so. The ride also teased times we could have gotten soaked. -Daredevil Falls also didn’t get us too soaked. Two of us stood on the bridge to purposefully get soaked. Also, one of the operators noticed two of us wearing brony t-shirts and commented positively in a way we didn’t get at first but we laughed at regardless. -Rockin’ Roadway was one of those nice little automated car rides. Just nice. -Relaxed on the Dollywood Express. Got a little history of the area and park with a couple laughs. It was a real steam engine, too, so there was a bit of soot and some of us had to cover their mouths. Still found some soot on our clothes after we returned to the hotel. -The Mystery Mine was closed until near the end of the day cuz of mechanical issues. So we hit it last. This ride had the best theming in the park and was fun overall. Pretty lite in intensity until the end, but it can bump your head around a bit if you’re not careful. -After the park closed, we changed out of any wet clothes at the hotel and went out to dinner. The same guy who brought the Switch found this restaurant called the Old Mill and it was AWESOME. Good southern three-course meal for about $20 per person. Had some authentic southern sweet tea with it. Started with corn fritters, salad, and corn chowder. Didn’t care for the chowder but the fritters were so good! Next was our main dishes. I got the country fried ham and OH MY GODS IT WAS LIKE I WAS EATING A GIANT PIECE OF BACON IT WAS SO GOOD! We also got dessert. I got a good chocolate cake while two of our group had a blackberry cobbler that they said they would sell someone’s soul for. Seriously. If you ever go to Pidgeon Forge for any reason, eat here! -Relaxed in the room with more Switch before bed.
Thursday: -This was our relax day. We took things slower and rerode anything we wanted to and ignored what we didn’t. Wild Eagle eventually got closed for the day, but not before we rode it a couple times. -We took our time and did some shopping. Bought a necklace for my moirail and two plushies, a sheep and a fox. THE SHEEP IS SO ADORABLE and the fox is prety cute too. -Since we did Pokemon Go things, three of us did a raid which we won! But I was the only one who didn’t get the pokemon from it! I was so pissed. -We ate at the buffet in the park for an early dinner. Funny story about it. The guys wanted to reride the flat rides, but the girls of the group didn’t. We decided to split off and do our own thing and meet at the buffet. So, the guys went on the teacups and one of them spun the cup as fast as he could. We found that he got the other one kinda sick cuz of it. Our waitress at the buffet, Charla, was so concerned about him, asking if there was something she could do to help. He just walked outside the buffet a couple of times and got better. We eventually chatted with her throughout the meal. Lovely woman. -On the note of customer service, we loved the rumored ‘southern hospitality’! Everyone was so nice and things were served quickly! I swear, if someone was rude to the Dollywood staff, ESPECIALLY CHARLA, I swear I will physically manifest into the park and punch them in the face! They were nothing but nice, giving us directions when we mildly expressed some confusion among other things. -The buffet was good. Mac and cheese was a bit bland, but the mashed potatoes and the turkey were so good!! I regret not eating half of my second slice of turkey, but I wanted to save room for dessert. Then after I ate dessert, I had room, and I know I could have finished off the turkey T.T -Finished off with more rides on Lightning Rod before running to the bakery and sweet shops at the front of the park for some chocolate truffles, cookies, and cupcakes at the hotel. We were gonna get some monkey bread, but they were out of over an hour before we got to the shop. I got some truffles and a giant cookie. They were good. -We relaxed back at the hotel and began to pack up a bit to help ourselves in the morning.
Friday: -We had a nice surprise when we went down for breakfast at the hotel. This guy was down there with a cockatoo and another small bird i forget the name of! We was advertising this interactive bird zoo thing and we got to play with the birds! This guy next to us was playing with one of the birds when we had the other one. It was clear he was a bird guy. He flipped the small one onto his back and gave him belly scratches. He snuggled the cockatoo and gave her neck scratches. They were in heaven. The cockatoo liked to nibble lightly at our sweatshirts and was pretty chill. The other guy liked to explore and zip to our shoulders. He even gave one of us kisses! I was so jealous. -We went to the alpine coaster that was closed. It was a lot of fun. Better than the one at Goats on the Roof, but both of them were still fun. -We said our goodbyes to Pidgeon Forge and headed home. Got stuck in some Cinncinatti traffic, but we were fine other than that. Arrived later than I would have liked, but we also kinda stopped a lot so that’s on us.
Overall, good trip!

 COSTLY BEASTS
Semi-Truck Repair Service near Omaha NE Council Bluffs IA:  Besides the upfront cost to purchase a diesel truck, do you know the depth and breadth of other costs involved? Wouldn’t it be great if buying a more expensive truck also meant a low cost of ownership? Unfortunately, the opposite is true. · A more expensive vehicle always means a higher insurance premium so you need to make sure you factor this into your monthly budget. Diesel fuel is typically more expensive, although, since it is much more efficient it requires less fuel than its gassy counterpart. · Maintenance and repairs are always higher with diesel trucks which also means that your truck will cost you more time having it serviced.
 MOUNTAINOUS MAINTENANCE
With the superior performance of the diesel engine also comes the need for superior maintenance. Diesel owners must understand that maintenance is absolutely critical to keeping your engine healthy in the younger years, performing well in the middle years, and still running in the geriatric years. It is not uncommon for a diesel engine to triple or quadruple the life expectancy of a gas engine but it is likely impossible if maintenance is minimal or forgotten.
 PEAK PROBLEMS
Semi-Truck Repair Service near Omaha NE Council Bluffs IA:  There are several foreseeable problems with a diesel engine that can be limited with scheduled routine maintenance and a few extra powerful services that can reverse the damage naturally occurring in diesel engines. The cost of services to combat the following problems varies widely depending on many factors including make/model, brands of products chosen and capacity of different systems. Therefore I am only able to list a ballpark range you will need to drill this down based on your particular diesel truck and preferences.
A diesel engine is chock full of power and therefore the engine runs extremely hot. Consequently, the coolant is one of the most important needs of the diesel engine. It should be continually monitored because it has a tendency to become more acidic as it ages. If the acid level becomes too high it can cause other parts of the cooling system to rot which will ultimately lead to expensive repairs. It is imperative that you take time to not only check it but to have it flushed as a preventative measure between 50K-100K miles and no more than every 5 years for most makes but it truly depends on the coolant chemistry and severity of use. Coolant flushes for a diesel truck start at around $180.
Dirt is an enemy of your diesel engine components. When dirt and grime are present and enter the system, performance will be compromised and the life of the engine will be significantly shorter. The best way to combat the enemy is to keep it clean oil, clean air, clean fuel. Failing to do these services regularly will lead to significant engine problems and expensive repairs?

Proposal [Hoseok and Namjoon]
I’m not going to lie… I got lost in writing these and some are pretty long *cough cough* Hoseok’s is f***in long*cough cough*
Enjoy~
Hoseok
Tumblr media
Elfie was home in Georgia since her kindergarten was on a summer break. Deja and Kiara left the shop in the care of their employees with Stephanie manning the management of it. Elfie needed an escape from her shared apartment with Hoseok. He was away on a world tour and Elfie would be lying if she said she didn’t miss him. She had cried herself to sleep some nights because she missed him. She thought going home would do her some good.
Being home, she spent a lot of time out at the beaches, a place she went to when she needed to breath. It cured her of her homesickness being back with her mom, Deja, Kiara, and the family. However, the dull heartache lingered through her days.
Though she tried to push it off and not let it show, her family noticed her struggle. Kiara grew concerned enough that she contacted Hoseok. She knew Elfie wasn’t one for separation, but this was one of her worse ones yet. While talking to Hoseok, Kiara found out he hadn’t contacted Elfie in the last month which was when she had begun feeling worse. Kiara was prepared to snap at him until he explained why he hadn’t and that Deja knew everything. Hoseok told her about the tour taking him to Georgia and BTS had set aside three days to stay in Atlanta which was enough time for Hoseok to make an appearance in Savannah. Kiara sighed as she accepted his answer and decided to join in on the plan.
A couple of days later, Elfie woke up to a note on her pillow. With a yawn, she sat up and looked at it, “Get dressed in something cute and go get ice cream from your favorite ice cream parlor… Ask for Oreo Ice Cream and tell them your name?” She looked at the note in confusion and flipped to see a blank back, “This looks like Deja’s handwriting…” She crawled out of bed. She left her room and was greeted by silence. “Hello?” She headed down the stairs to see her mom with a magazine in hand. “Morning mom!”
Her mom looked up, “You’re not wearing that, are you?”
“What? No? I’m confused. What is all this?”
Her mom shut her magazine, “Now, you listen babygirl. I want ya up them stairs and you get yourself lookin presentable.”
Elfie was about to speak, but her mom shot her a look and Elfie straightened her back slightly scared of the look, “Yes ma’am.” Her mom shooed her and Elfie went back up stairs.
“WEAR COMFY SHOES, BABY!”
Elfie changed into one of her summer dresses. The top was a pink tube top style and the skirt of the dress was blue with little anchors with a slightly longer back. She checked the mirror just as her mom entered.
“Sit. Imma do ya hair” Elfie sat on the ground in front of her bed as her mom sat behind her. She put the brush through Elfie’s soft hair. “You know, this is to help your mood. Deedee and Kiki been worried you aren’t smilin much.”
Elfie looked down at her hands, “I know, ma… I just–I know Hoesok didn’t abandon me, but not hearing from him and being apart it hurts. I try not to go thinkin about the past, but I do…”
Her mom hummed as she worked on the fishtail braid, “I know, baby… But, you gotta let the past go. Hoseok, he a good man.”
“I know, ma… He’s perfect.”
“You’re all good” Elfie got up and checked her hair. Her mom left the bottom half of her hair down and a fishtail braid rested on top of it. “God gave you a great man, treasure him, ya hear?” Elfie nodded. “Now let’s go. We can’t keep everyone waitin” she ushered Elfie out of the house after she put on her sandals.
Elfie’s mom dropped her off at the ice cream parlor and drove off without another word leaving Elfie in confusion. She entered the shop and was greeted by the store owner, “Hi, can I get an Oreo ice cream?”
“Sure! Can I get a name?”
“Oh, Elfie.”
There was a twinkle in the owners eye, “Coming right up, Elfie!” He set off to make her cone. After making it, he handed her the cone and she held out her debit card. “Already paid for, sweetie. This is for you as well.” He slipped her a card. Elfie took it and thanked him as she looked at it.
You got your favorite ice cream, sunshine? Good. Now go to the beach you love and find the message in the bottle.
Her heart skipped a beat at the nickname. The handwriting looked familiar, but she couldn’t think of a name. “How am I going to get to Tybee from here?” She walked out of the ice cream store to see Kiara and her two cousins in a car waiting for her. Kiara waved her in and Elfie hurried in. “What’s going on?”
“Scavenger hunt of course! We’ll take you to the beach. You ready?” Seeing her nod, her cousin drove off towards the beach.
“Why are we doing this?”
Kiara looked back at Elfie from the passenger seat, “To help you” she replied. “You’ve been glum ever since Hoseok got on tour and thought this would be fun.”
Once at the beach, Kiara pointed out the direction of a blocked off area. “We reserved that part of the beach. Come back when you find the clue!”
Elfie looked around the beach that was empty. Her focus turned from the search to the ocean and she sighed. Her mind strayed back to Hoseok. Elfie knew she should focus, but she pulled out her phone and sent Hoseok a quick I love you and miss you <3 before she went back to work. When she turned back, she noticed something shine under the noon sun. She approached the item to see a bottle planted in the sand. She walked up to it and laughed, “A real message in a bottle!” She plucked off the cork and shook the message out. She laughed at her own struggle before the rolled up paper fell in her hand. Elfie quickly unrolled it to read:
If you STILL aren’t smiling and having fun, I will begin to think you aren’t human.Take the carriage around Calhoun Square and receive your last note.
Elfie laughed as she reread the note. “A carriage ride? Really?” She rushed up to her cousin’s car where only her oldest cousin, Jamal. “Where are the others?”
“They ain’t comin. Let’s go. I gotta pick up nana and pops.” Elfie jumped in the passenger seat and Jamal hit the gas.
Arriving downtown, Elfie got out of the car to see Deja in front of a carriage with a bouquet of flowers. “Ready for the tour?” Deja grinned as she passed the flowers to Elfie.
Elfie giggled, “Do I have a choice?” The coachman helped the two women on the carriage and he got into his spot before the carriage began to move. “We haven’t done something like this in years” Elfie smiled at the memories.
Deja nodded, “We used to bug ma all the time about it.”
“I remember when we climbed on one and we ended up in Orleans Square” the two laughed. “Ma about beat us to death for giving her heart failures.”
Deja clapped her hands as she laughed, “Ma really went for the kill, dude. She blamed her white hair on us and the incident.”
“I miss that…” Elfie sucked in a breath, “Ma and you are my world.”
Deja reached over and took Elfie’s hand, “We’re family, baby! We’re glue. You’re not getting rid of us… Same with Kiara, our dad even if he ain’t always around. He loves us. So do our cous. Hoseok loves you too.”
“Yea.. I’m pretty freakin lucky I got y’all, huh?”
As the carriage stopped in front of Forsyth Park, the two climbed out. “Here, these are for you!” Deja held out her hand with a note and a penny. Elfie took the note and read it.
You’re so close, sunshine! Go to Forsyth Fountain with your coin and make a wish. Though I’m sure I already know what it’ll be. ;)
Elfie shook her head as she took the coin from Deja. “Who wrote this?”
Deja shrugged, “You’ll find out. Have fun wishing! Say it out loud, okay?” She gave her a peace sign and headed off.
Elfie let out an exhausted sigh, “I don’t wanna walk after this” she complained. With the coin in hand, she headed to the center of Forsyth Park as she thought about what to wish for. She could do her usual wanting everyone she loves to be happy and healthy. However, she wanted to be selfish. Elfie let out a quiet laugh, “It’s just a wish. It’s not going to come true…” She shook her head as she stopped in front of the fountain and admired it. Her shoulder relaxed as she stared at the water. “I wanna be selfish this time… Sorry everyone.” A stray fell down her cheek. “I just miss him a lot right now… I want Hoseok to see this place. To go to the places I grew up around… I just—I just wish Hoseok was here with me.” She flipped the coin out of her hand and watched it slowly descended into the fountain water. Elfie watched it plop against the surface of the water and a bitter smile graced her face. “It’s just a wish. It’s not going to come true…” She reminded herself.
“Excuse me?” A voice with a thick accent sounded from behind her.
Elfie jumped, “Sorry, I’m in–” She turned to the person of the voice and her voice faltered.
Hoseok stood behind her wearing a polo shirt with a checkered front and shoulder blades with nice blue jeans. He smiled at her, “Hey sunshine.” Elfie said nothing as she threw her arms around his neck and pulled him close. He hugged her back tightly, “I love and miss you too” he whispered in her ear.
“What are you doing here? I thought you were on tour.” Elfie kept from crying, but swallowed a lump in her throat.
“I still am, but I heard you would be in Georgia when I was and decided to come out here and do what I have been wanting to do for months.” Hoseok pulled back from her and looked in her eyes. “I love you so much, Elfie. You know that, right?” She nodded which made him smile more. “You are my sunshine… my light in the darkness. I fall in love with you every time I see you, your eyes, and your smile. I fall in love a thousand times but it is always the same person and that will always be you. You made my life beautiful and meaningful.” He pulled out the ring box he had hidden and dropped to a knee in front of Elfie. “Will you marry me, Elfie?”
“YES! IS THAT EVEN A QUESTION?” Elfie squealed as she pressed her hand to her mouth. Hoseok placed the ring on her finger not caring of the crowd that had watched and clapped for them. Elfie pulled Hoseok up and hugged him, “Oh my gosh!” She let out a squeal. “I love you!”
Hoseok kissed her cheek, “I love you more, sunshine.”
Elfie stared at the ring on her finger then up at Hoseok breathlessly, “I feel like I’m going to wake up and find this all to be a dream…”
Hoseok tilted her chin up more, “I don’t mind showing you that this isn’t a dream.” He whispered before he pressed his lips to hers. After sharing a tender kiss, Hoseok lead her out of the park where Deja waited with a car to go back to the beach where her family and BTS set up a party for their engagement.
Namjoon
Tumblr media
Sierra had her suspicions when Namjoon texted her that he was taking her to The Lounge at 8. Namjoon wasn’t a spontaneous romantic. He would spring a date on her, but not something luxurious as The Lounge unless it was for something important. Sierra figures it was something to celebrate, so she was thankful that she had Deja do her hair the day before. She had gone back to the hair salon to get her nails done by Kiara.
She checked herself in the mirror. Sierra moved her long box braids until she approved of the style. She then stepped back to admire the dress she had bought. She decided to get a red sequins backless mermaid styles dress. The straps of the dress tied behind her neck and the dress gripped her curves perfectly. Since they were going to The Lounge, she wanted to make sure all eyes were on her.
Once prepared, she stepped out of the bedroom and went downstairs where Namjoon stood with her clutch in hand. He watched her descend the stairs and he licked his dry lips. “Do I look fine?” She asked as she fluttered her eyelashes.
“Fine doesn’t even begin to cover it” he wrapped his hand around her hip and guided her to him.
Sierra’s manicured fingers touched his chest and she flattened her palm against his jacket, “Damn, my man cleans up nice.” She fixed his handkerchief in his suit jacket pocket. She flashed him a smile as he leaned down and kissed her.
He pulled back slowly lingering just a little for more of a taste. His hand slid to her back and his fingers traced up her spine causing shivers in their wake. His head dipped down to her ear as she leaned her body closer to him craving his touch. “I’d like nothing more than to ravish you right now” he growled in her ear causing shivers up her spine.
Her nails dragged up his suit to his tie. She bit her lip at the idea and her lashes fluttered, “Though, I’m not entirely against the idea” Namjoon pressed his lips to her neck eliciting a moan from her. She sucked in air through her teeth as she pulled back, “We have a reservation, don’t we? Hate to be late.”
Namjoon smirked as he handed her the clutch, “You’re correct.” He held out his arm for her to take as he guided her out of the house with his hand on the small of her back and helped her into the car.
He stepped out of his car and rounded it to the passenger door. Namjoon passed the keys to valet as he opened the passenger door and helped Sierra out of his car. He felt like he was on the Hollywood red carpet with her with how stunning she looked. She flashed him a smile as he led her from the car. They were a power couple. They had enough confidence radiating off of them that they turn heads where they went. It was no difference as he escorted her inside the building. Namjoon felt she was the only one in the world who could match his ways. They approached the hostess and Namjoon gave her his name.
Sierra’s breath caught in her throat as she stared down at the night scene out side the panoramic window beside her. “It’s so breathtaking.”
Namjoon took a sip of his wine as he gave a quick glance at the view. He placed his glass down and smirked, “I think the view before me is much more breathtaking.”
Sierra’s lips parted slightly in surprise before she flashed an amused smile, “That was smooth. I’ll give you that.” She looked back at her menu, “Do you know what you’ll have?” His lips twitched and she gave him an are you for real look. “Don’t say it.” She pointed her finger at him.
Namjoon held up his hands and let out a deep laugh, “You caught me.” The waiter returned to the table to take their orders and he placed a vase filled with roses. After taking their orders, the waiter left. Namjoon slipped his hand over Sierra’s. He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb and his eyes never left his hand. His smile fall slightly as he stared at her with a serious expression, “You know I love you, right Sierra?”
She gave him a soft smile, “Of course” she squeezed his hand. “I love you” her voice was sweet and low as she told him those three words.
Namjoon pressed her hand to his lips, “I would do anything to make you smile. It lights up my life and all the darkness in the world disappears. Sierra, you are the only one alive who truly understands me. You understand me better than even myself. You are the only one I can share everything with, even my darkest secrets. You’re my heart. My soulmate.”
Sierra’s smile reached her eyes as she had no words for what he said. She gave his hand a squeeze as she bit her lip to keep from getting emotional. Namjoon had always had a way with words. It was something they both were good at, but he had a way of taking her breath away.
Namjoon moved from his chair, let go of her hand, and knelt drawing a gasp from Sierra as she realized what was going on. She pressed her hands over her mouth as she watched him pull a ring box from the table that the waiter slyly slid to Namjoon. “Love is not just a word to say. Love is not a game to play. My love doesn’t just start and end. My love is yesterday, today, tomorrow, and always. Will you take my hand and be the person I want to grow old with? ” He opened the box and flashed the engagement ring to her.
Sierra cried as she reached out to hug him. Namjoon leaned forward and took her in his arms as she cried. “Yes... Of course.” There was loud applause as Namjoon slid the ring on her finger. Sierra fanned her hand in her face and sniffled, “You know I hate crying in public.”
Namjoon chuckled as he slipped his handkerchief out of his pocket, “That’s why I brought this.” He handed it to her and pecked her lips before he returned to his seat.
She dabbed her eyes as she looked at the ring in disbelief. “I love you” she told him as she looked up at him.
He picked up his wine glass, “I love you more. Cheers for a lifetime together.”
Sierra picked up her drink and clicked her glass against his, “For a lifetime.” She took a sip as her engagement ring glistened in the light.

CARL’S BLOG: BLUE SKIES OF EL DORADO, ARKANSAS; carlsblog.online; http://sbpra.com/CarlJBarger
Author’s note:  You might want to know that the article found in this blog was one of the battles fought during the Civil War.  I’ve done a lot of research for this book and some were from newspapers of El Dorado, Arkansas.  Hope you enjoy this one. Carl J. Barger
4-3-29: The El Dorado News-Times printed the following summary, “The Siege, and Closure, of the Battle of Atlanta, Ga.”
The first thing I did daily was to check the El Dorado News-Times to see how the war was playing out in the other southern states.
On July 22, 1864, the Battle of Atlanta started. It took over
a month before Atlanta surrendered to the Union Army. It was
a bloody campaign. The Union Army suffered 3,641 casualties,
while the Confederacy suffered 5,500.
General James B. McPherson of the Union Army lost his life
during the battle.
The El Dorado News-Times printed the following summary,
“The Siege, and Closure, of the Battle of Atlanta, Ga.”:
General Sherman tried unsuccessfully to take the
city of Atlanta for weeks. He finally settled into a siege
of Atlanta, shelling the city, and sending raids west and
south of the city to cut off the supply lines from Macon,
Georgia. Both of Sherman’s cavalry raids were defeated
by superior Southern horsemen. When Sherman failed
to break the Confederates’ hold on the city, he began to
employ a new strategy. He swung his entire army in a
broad flanking maneuver to the west. Finally, on August
31, at Jonesborough, Georgia, Sherman’s army captured
the railroad track from Macon, Georgia, pushing the
Confederates to Lovejoy’s Station. With his supply lines
fully severed, General Hood of the Confederacy pulled
his troops out of Atlanta the next day, September 1,
destroying supply depots as he left to prevent them from
falling into Union hands. He also set fire to eighty-one
loaded ammunition cars, which led to a conflagration
watched by hundreds.
On September 2, 1864, Mayor James Calhoun, along
with a committee of Union-leaning citizens, met a
captain on the staff of Maj. General Henry W. Slocum
and surrendered the city, asking for protection to noncombatants
and private property.
Sherman, who was in Jonesborough at the time of
the surrender, sent a telegram to Washington on September
3, which read, ‘Atlanta is ours, and fairly won.’
On September 7, Sherman established his headquarters
in Atlanta.
After reading the battle summary, I had no information
whether Henry was alive or dead. I took a chance that he would
be alive, and sat down and penned him a telegram:
September 12, 1864. Stop. Dear Henry. Stop. I just
finished reading the account of the Battle of Atlanta.
Stop. I’m hoping that you can get a telegram there in
Atlanta. Stop. I can’t stand not knowing your status.
Stop. I’ve been praying every day since the battle started
that God would surround you with his protection. Stop. I
hope all is well with you and Helen. Stop. If you get this
telegram, please get right back with me and let me know
how y’all are. Stop. Your friend, Obadiah Bradford.
Two days passed, and I still hadn’t heard from Henry. The
telegraph office said my telegram went through, but because
of the turmoil there, it could be awhile before Henry could
respond. I guess the Union officials are checking all outgoing
telegrams before approving them.

SUBARU CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REPAIR NEAR OMAHA NE COUNCIL BLUFFS IA
Mobile Mechanic Check Engine Light Scan and Diagnostics Services
On some vehicles it’s called a Check Engine light; others use a Service Engine Soon light. Still others just have a light with a picture of an engine on it. The industry refers to it as a MIL– Malfunction Indicator Lamp. All scary names for the same thing…
Which should not be terrifying whatsoever. Basically the light means that the car’s computer has identified a concern in the system that requires attention.
What sort of attention? Professional attention, from a professional technician. It requires having the computer system scanned and checked to identify any parts that have shifted beyond the standard performing range.
Sounds complicated, but actually that light is just the computer’s method of informing you to have your car checked. It located a problem– usually one that you wouldn’t even notice during normal driving– and it requires to be inspected before it becomes serious.
Why does the system require SUBARU Check Engine light? Because the more complicated the system is, the more it has to help you monitor its performance and diagnose problems. And the computer system on today’s cars is highly complex. Therefore the system is developed to monitor operation and set codes when it identifies a problem.
Most of the time SUBARUCheck Engine light indicates a problem that’ll increase emissions. And those emissions don’t have to increase a lot to turn the light on: Today’s cars are produced to run a lot cleaner than those of just a decade ago.
But even if you don’t really care all that much about your car’s environmental impact, SUBARU Check Engine light is still something you’ll need to have inspected. Remember, anything that raises emissions probably also burns more gas. And at the price of gas today, that’s not something you want to ignore.
What’s more, pumping additional fuel through the engine can force the catalytic converter to work overtime to burn off the extra carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. That can overheat the catalytic converter and burn it out in just a few miles. And changing the catalytic converter could be an expensive repair you’ll need to take care of before you’ll be able to pass your next emissions test or smog test.
FX Mobile Mechanic Services Omaha is equipped with the latest test equipment for diagnosing today’s computer systems. We’ll be happy to scan your car’s computer system and check for any codes stored in memory. And their technicians can examine the circuits and systems to locate any problems, and bring those systems back into proper operating condition.

COST OF SCRAP METAL REMOVAL
Lots of people think that just because scrap metal has some monetary value, and people just “give it away” that you're obligated to provide scrap metal removal services for free. This is only true if you don't care about whether or not you're actually losing money... Which is VERY easy to do. We created a worksheet for SMF members to will help you evaluate how much a scrap metal removal job is REALLY worth to you, by systematically calculating your costs vs your earnings according to some simple variables.
But first let's look at how to use it and how it can help you. In my opinion, no scrap metal removal job is too small, you just need to charge a fee to make it worth it. The trick is getting the fee 'just right' so you always earn AT LEAST what you're worth, without accidentally over-charging the customer and losing the job. You're never losing out by offering a fee for your service to a customer who doesn't have enough scrap metal for a free removal, but you will ALWAYS lose out when you flat-out turn a customer down. First let's look at the costs we need to factor into our assessment.
COSTS • Fuel • Man hours spent driving • Man hours spent on job • Man hours spent “breaking down” • Materials like blades, cutting discs, drill bits.
All of those things cost money, and they can eat away at the profits from your scrap pretty quick if you're not careful. So let's create an example situation to create a practice scrap metal removal cost assessment.
Our fictional example job: • You'll be picking up 4 large household appliances (1 stove, 2 washers and a dryer), and a couple hundred lbs of weight equipment. • The scrap is located about 30 miles away (30 minutes), and you'll be bringing along a helper to assist in loading the scrap. There won't be any breaking down or extra materials such as blades required. We'll also assume that it should take about an hour to get everything loaded up and be out of there. • Looks like it could quality for a free removal right? Let's find out!
Ok, so we have a general understanding of the job, let's start factoring costs... • Fuel – First you need to know how much your fuel will cost. • To start off you'll need to know your vehicle's MPG (miles per gallon). • (If you don't know how to calculate your MPG, go here: https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+calculate+mpg) • Let's assume you'll be taking only 1 truck, it gets 20mpg on average, and the cost of fuel is currently $3 per gallon. • The job is 30 miles away and you get 20mpg, so you will consume 1.5 gallons of gas EACH WAY (30mi / 20mpg), for a total of 3 gallons of gas. • 3 gallons x $3/gallon = $9
Total cost of fuel is $9 Next you need to figure out how much our man hours are worth, for both you AND your partner/helper. The first step to this is determining WHAT YOU'RE WORTH, per hour. • If you haven't done so already, place an hourly wage on yourself and your helper, separately, right now. • Let's assume that your hourly wage is $20, and your helper's hourly wage is $15. It's important to put a value on yourself.
Next, you need to estimate how many man hours it will take to complete the job. If you ARE going to include drive time in your man hours, calculate your total hours by adding together the following estimated values: • Total hours to job x2 (don't forget the drive back) • Total hours on job • Total hours spent breaking down (if any)
If you are NOT including drive time in your man hours, calculate your hours using the following estimated values: • Total hours on job • Total hours spent breaking down (if any) Total them all up. We will charge for drive time in this example. For our example job, we have a total of 2 man hours (2 total hours per person. 1 total hour worth of driving, 1 hour on the job). We won't be breaking anything down and we don't need any materials like blades to get the job done so we can skip that. Next we need to calculate the total cost per hour, which is the sum of your hourly wage AND your helper's hourly wage. In our case our total cost per hour is $35 per hour ($20 for you + $15 for your helper = $35)
So you have 2 man hours to account for at $35, so for our example job, including drive time, the cost of man hours comes to $70 (2 hours x $35/hour). Now we need to add our cost of FUEL to our cost of MAN HOURS and we have the 'true' cost for this scrap metal removal job. • Cost of fuel = $9 • Cost of man hours = $70 • Total cost for removal job = $79
Ok, great, you know how much you have to make AT A BARE MINIMUM from the scrap in order for it to qualify as a “free removal”. So the next step is to estimate how much the scrap is actually worth. To do this, assuming it's all light iron (regular steel) you just need to know the steel price per ton and make a good guess at how much the scrap weighs. • Let's assume that scrap steel is going for .06/lb, which is about $130/ton. • We'll also assume that all 4 of the appliances each weigh about 100lbs, totaling 400lbs, and exercise equipment is 300lbs. This gives us a grand total of 700lbs. • At .06 cents per pound, the value of our scrap is only about $42! • With a total cost of $79 to even DO this job, and only $42 in scrap value means you're actually losing almost $40 if you remove this scrap for free! ($42 for scrap - $79 for hours/fuel = $37 loss) • You have to charge a fee of AT LEAST $37 to earn what you deserve.
Does all of that make sense? Our example job looked like it would make a few bucks, but that wasn't the case. Don't always assume that just because it's “free”, that it's worth it.
