Some information and lore about Gilles Villeneuve
Tumblr media
During the driver's strike, Gilles played some joyful tunes, like music by Scott Joplin, he knew on the piano before it was used to barricade the door
He also played romantic music on the piano for Didier Pironi when Didier took some ladies out on a date
Alain Prost and Gilles Villeneuve shared a bed together during the driver's strike, and Patrick Tambay said if a baby came because of this, the rest of them might as well give up
Someone was snoring so loudly during the drivers sleepover that Gilles put a blanket over them to muffle it
Gilles once flew his helicopter near Niki Lauda's window at a hotel as he tried to land it. It woke Niki up from his sleep and Niki glared at him through the window
Enzo Ferrari saw Gilles like a son, and there were only a few drivers that Enzo was particularly close to
Gilles Villeneuve was discovered by James Hunt when Gilles raced against him. James and Gilles became quite close
He got nicknamed the 'Prince of destruction' at one point
Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi got up to lots of fun together, including a game where they competed to see who could crash their rental car the best. They even got Alain Prost involved
Once, Gilles was giving Jody Scheckter a lift back home in his helicopter, Jody noticed a red blinking light, but Gilles told him not to worry. Every so often, suddenly, the aircraft would free fall (as Jody put it), freaking Jody out before Gilles got it under control again. Jody grabbed the manual for the helicopter and looked up what the red light meant. It meant that the battery was overheating. He then realised Gilles was purposely shutting down the engine to let the helicopter battery cool and then carry on flying
"During the flight between Montreal and Milan, Villeneuve had told Parent that he wanted permission to continue doing risky activities like skiing, driving his 4x4, boating and the like. "I told Mr. Ferrari that Gilles wanted to be the owner of his body. You have to believe that I used unusual words! Because Ferrari looked at me and asked me if I was a lawyer. I told him no. Then he asked Gilles if he was a lawyer. No. Ferrari asked me to repeat my question, which I did using the same words. And he accepted. In fact, Ferrari understood, by mistake, that Gilles wanted to be the owner of his body, in fact of his racing suit! That Gilles wanted to negotiate his own personal contracts. This is not what we had in mind, but that we got by mistake!" Parent exclaimed
Quebec rock and pop band 'The Box' made a song 'Live on TV' inspired by Gilles televised death. A Italian rock band 'The Rock Alchemist' wrote the song '27' as tribute to Gilles Villeneuve #27 f1 Ferrari
A film based on Gerland Donaldson's book about Gilles Villeneuve, directed by Daniel Roby reportedly entered production in 2023. However there hasn't been much information on it since.
Feel free to reblog with any other information you know about Gilles Villeneuve <3

Divorce lawyer reader encountering laurie again unphased y/n took andy frm him
Worth It
Andy Barber x Divorce Lawyer!Reader
Tumblr media
a/n: Hey, An🫶n, and my other beautiful readers! So sorry it's taken me a while to post any new stories, asks, or anything remotely interesting other than my rants and shade. It's been a tough month... For now, this is going to, hopefully, be 1 of 3 fics before November. Let me just say, I'm insane for challenging myself like this, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, sit back and enjoy the fic!
WARNINGS!!! Some cursing (calling of slut, one mention of Fuck), pet names, mention of the car crash, mention of near death, mention of therapy, Andy is one seductive little shit, maternal figure!Y/N.
*Y/S/N = Your SurName
**F/P = Favorite Pastry
***F/C/D = Favorite Cafe Drink
Tumblr media
Her alarm rang obnoxiously loud, but Y/N didn't seem to mind as she reached out to her bedside table to turn it off, before snuggling back into the man sleeping peacefully beside her. As they were in the process of effectively divorcing his wife, Andy had promised that as soon as it was all finalized, she can expect for there to be some of the biggest changes in her life. And safe to say Atty. Y/N *Y/S/N, wasn't disappointed, and may never get tired of it all.
She wrapped her arms around the slender torso of her boyfriend. They'd been together for about two years now, despite having a rocky start, their feelings blossomed into the most beautiful thing that neither of the two have ever experienced before. And that fact was once again proven, when the girl's snuggling and attempt at burrowing had pulled a reaction from the unsurprisingly gorgeous man.
"You know that will only make you late, if not later, than normal, Baby Girl, right?" Andy smirked, eyes remaining closed, hiding the mischief behind them.
"So... What if I do want to be late? Hmm?" Y/N replied, her cheeky grin growing with each second, as she took to placing light kisses on the side of her Love's neck.
"Then you'll have to explain to a very moody 16-year-old, why he missed at least three periods... And you know you can't reason with him, or his teachers." Andy laughed.
"Fuck!" Y/N sighed, laying flat in disappointment.
"We never get our mornings in anymore..."
"You know we could just send, Jacob on the bus... Be some bad parents for once..." Andy whispered, pulling his girlfriend close once more, allowing him to do so, sexily, in her ear.
"No. I can't risk Laurie approaching, and basically harassing him. Again." Y/N said, pulling away from his extremely tempting arms, and sitting up.
"You know we should let her see him, again." Andy said, a hand rubbing Y/N's arm, and eventually resting on her hip, pulling him to her, as he propped himself with one arm, and scooted closer to her.
"And we will. In neutral territory, under supervision." Y/N huffed.
"You're never forgiving her, are you?" Andy said, after placing a kiss on her shoulder.
"Absolutely. Come on, Andy, we're going to be stuck at traffic if we don't start moving now." She continued, looking at the time on the clock across from the right side of the bed.
"You don't want to be called old by our son again, do you?" She added with a chuckle, getting up, and turning around to walk backwards towards the bathroom.
"No, I definitely don't! Especially if I'm going to make sure his Ma will be carrying his sibling..." Andy said, smiling with a playfulness that alluded to something more.
And it stayed on, as he charged at Y/N. Filling their home with sounds of laughter and gleeful screams. With Andy silently hoping that he'd be able to hear that sound for the rest of his life.
Tumblr media
Jacob had had an early day off from school, considering that his Physics teacher had cancelled class to be with his 6 year old daughter, who had fallen and injured herself in PE. Andy was stuck in his office, filling paperwork after paperwork for a case he was assigned, and he'd asked Y/N to fetch Jacob from school. And she was happy to oblige.
Jacob might not be her son by blood, and he had been accused of murder, but she loved him anyway. They'd formed a unique maternal bond, and she wasn't willing to give it up for anything. Especially when Jacob accepted that she could become his step-mother at some point.
Y/N decided it'd be fun to take Jacob with her to work, considering her caseload was light, and no one minded having a teenager amongst them. Plus, Jacob had asked her how and what did she do her job, at one point. That's why she decided to buy a few snacks from the stall right outside hers and Andy's office building.
"What would you like to have bud?" She asked, smiling at him, gently holding him up as he was still suffering from partial paralysis in his left leg, from the car crash. Therapy had helped, both physically and mentally, however, it had taken two years before some feeling came back and he was able to flex his foot. However, the rest of the leg will take some time.
"I don't know, Ma... Everything looks so good, I can't decide. Am I even allowed?" Jacob asked, his eyes sparkling in a way that Y/N has only seen happen in Andy's eyes.
"Ofcourse, you're allowed, Silly! Don't tell your father that I'm letting you take two, though." She giggled conspiratorially.
"My lips are sealed." Jacob laughed, holding his crutch in one hand, while he mimed a zipper with the other.
He later picked one chocolate frosted, with chocolate chips on top, and one white frosted, with colorful sprinkles, for his donuts, along with one Mocha-latte. Y/N ordered her usual **F/P and ***F/C/D, and was in the process of paying when she heard, a motherly voice, she was definitely not in the mood to hear today.
"Jacob! Sweetie, you look so big! You've grown so much in the past two weeks..." Laurie cried, her hands on Jacob's shoulders, before she pulled him into a hug.
"Laurie, get your hands off of my son. You don't get to see him until this Saturday, you know that!" Y/N exclaimed, approaching them with fury. Her own protective motherly instincts had awoken at the sound of that woman's voice.
"Your son? Y/N surely you can't be serious. Jacob is, and always will be my son. I gave birth to him. I raised him. I protected and defended him, when no one else did!" Laurie shouted, making Jacob flinch. Y/N took hold of Jacob, gently freeing him from Laurie's clutches.
"Yeah, you did a mighty good job at that, when you tried to kill him by crashing that car." She said in an eerily calm way.
"Jacob go inside, and wait in the Lobby."
"If he died in that accident, then you'd have Andy all to yourself, you slut!" Laurie said, not caring who hears.
"You know that what happened wasn't an accident, Laurie. You pressured Jacob into confessing to something he didn't do, because that's all you believed." Y/N countered, causing Laurie to eat her words.
"You believed the worst in Jacob, and didn't care that he was innocent in all of it. And you think you deserve to be called a mother? You tried to kill him! Your own son. You don't deserve to be near Jacob or the rest of my family." She gasped, finally letting out all that she thought of Laurie in the past two years.
"If it were up to me, I'd deny you any of your parental rights. But I won't do that to Jacob, or Andy. Those two mean more to me than anything else in this world, and I will do whatever it takes to make them happy and safe." She sighed, a heavy weight lifting off of her shoulders.
"Now, go home, Laurie. Before I smack you with a restraining order. We'll see you this weekend, if you manage to stay away for that long..."
Y/N had won. She not only gave Laurie a piece of her mind, she had actually spoken a truth she knew to be true long before Andy and her had made themselves official. And as she sighed with even more relief, and turned around, she saw one handsome face and the face of a boy that's been through hell but was right there smiling, that couldn't help, but make her smile.
"Jacob and I mean more to you than anything, huh?" Andy shyly smiled, his teeth peeking through his lips.
"You do. More than you'll both ever know." Y/N replied, as she ran to the arms of her family. Content with the life she's built for herself, that's worth everything.

So, I may have gotten, little bit overboard with the request, and wrote my first ever Andy Barber fic, feat. Jacob Barber😅. I hope you don't mind, An🫶n. Your request was too good of an idea to pass up writing a full fic!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I also hope that this fic was a fun distraction from all this mess caused by certain people. And stay tuned, I'm not done writing yet. Because this was, sort of an energizer for me.😁
See you in the next one, my Fellow Fan Girls and Boys🫶

Ohgodstheresmore-
now I'm tryna decide wtf I want my own human Bill to look like
the left one was the last design I did a couple years ago, and it ain't bad, but I'm jus like eeehhh
bill has always been very shape shift in my brain too so that also confuses me when tryna pin him down to one lol
my Human Bill Cipher au is where he was actually born a regular human but has the mental illnesses and gets involved with dark magic. the euclideans in this world branched out from their 2D coils, there still aren't many left though since the group of them were the soul survivors of their degrading home world. aaand are thus are scattered across dimensions. Bill meets a disguised one and she is actually the one to get him involved with magic junk and creating that fun beast lol. she is very proud of herself-
anyway, here's also a bit of lore I scrounged from my documents:
As a kid, he was infatuated with oddities, and was curious as can be. He wanted to know it all, but aside from research, his father brought him on hunting trips and taught him how to cut the meat, and this sparked an interest in dissecting small creatures on his own. And when he wasn't doing that, he would play games like portal or zelda games, which his little bro ray liked to watch. His parents were often busy, his mother a surgeon and his father a lawyer. They found time where they could, and taught him and ray to be independent. As long as they did their chores and made sure not to miss school, and of course be careful and not stay out too late, their parents trusted them to stay with friends, go to the park, the library, etc. About when he was 10, a group of kids at school started paying special attention to him. The leader was a new kid from the city who started to try and make some sort of mini gang. He manipulated other kids into joining them, most guys. They would steal his work, break into his locker/his backpack, harass, and jump him. Bill tried to hide it, covering up or avoiding his parents when the gang had beat him. He found it a sign of weakness, and was ashamed and frustrated that he couldn't do anything. One day about a year later, he decided to bring a knife to school and stabbed one of the kids, after finding him alone. He carved carefully to inflict maximum damage without it being fatal. Needless to say he was expelled. Next year his parents managed to re-enroll him. During that time out of school he delved more into his hobbies, and was around the time he found books on magic in a hidden part of the library. It was usually closed off behind a bookcase, but the new librarian, oddly enough, showed it to him, and told him it was their little secret and that she saw potential in him. When it was nearing his 13th birthday, his parents had managed to get time off so that they could all go on a vacation on spring break. Unfortunately, they wouldn't get the chance to enjoy it. When they were driving, bill was reading one of the spell books over again, and trying to pronounce some of the spells. The dark magics combined with the fact that he barely slept, made him start to hallucinate. When ray tried getting his attention and he looked out the window, he saw white ghostly figures walking in the road, surrounding them as a fog filled his vision. Their arms reached the ground and their eyes were hollow, and when they opened their mouths they were like leeches. Bill told his parents to speed up, or dodge them, but they were just confused and concerned. When he looked at his family's faces they looked white and eyes blackened, and he could only hear them asking what’s wrong, in a pitying voice. His chest felt heavy and he struggled to breath. He took the wheel and flung them off the road, sending the car tumbling before being stopped by a large tree. In the end, the parents don't make it, ray barely survived with lost limbs and internal damage. Bill was practically a missile in the crash and thrown from the vehicle. The doctors said it was a miracle he and his brother survived. If it wasn’t for the witness who called 911 they wouldn’t have. When bill woke up from his coma, he had amnesia, and upon opening his one good eye the doctors were baffled by the snake eye that looked back at them.
Personality: Bill is confident, and will get frustrated when someone questions him/his actions. He has the idea that he knows what's best and that relationships of any kind are a waste of time. He’s relatively paranoid, and can get carried away, thus then throwing all reason out the window. When his head is clear he will strategize but if you tip him off his game he will become erratic and impulsive. He is obsessive when it comes to his interests and despite his curious nature, he will approach new things and ideas with skepticism. He has no problem pushing boundaries and toying with others. He’d rather torture than kill, but if you push him far enough, he’d end you. He has a variety of abilities, due to his experience with butchery and magic. He can shadowstep, utilize biomancy, arcane, fire, hypnosuggestive, dark magics, etc. He’s also a phase shifter in larian terms.
might edit some of this but yeah I am very much still tryna get my shit together
I have WAY too many stories/au's/crossover shit but gravity falls is so fucking in my brain rn I can't not do something XD

So I spent all day writing Victoria's Secret AUs...it could have been worse edition.
I have an angst problem yo.
Victoria is a ghost
When you are lonely and feel guilty, the mind can offer all kinds of refuges.
Fraser hadn't left his apartment in three days, huddled in like the memory of before, he and Victoria. Except for that brief phone call the consulate had for him, that call that-- No matter, for the roses had appeared that afternoon, in sympathy and get well and provided the perfect reason to go back. The Forget Me Nots. Sick leave he had in abundance after all, so he returned to Victoria's embrace.
Until that night, well past midnight, Ray knocked on the door. Whether it was sleep deprivation or worry Ray too would leave, he made the mistake of inviting him in. “Do you wanna meet her?” and though he'd hestitated, Ray did cross the threshold, like an unseen hand had given him push.
And looked around a disheveled and empty apartment.
“Fraser?”
There was no woman in sight. To his eyes anyways. To Fraser, Victoria sat draped in his bed, an icy smile now gracing her features, as if more proof his guilt was earned eternally.
He leaned against the partition of his bedroom, looking between them both, and as he cracked like the thaw of ice in a pass, laughter bubbling to tears, sinking him into the cold as he sank to the floor despite Ray's efforts to try and catch him in grip, he knew.
“I'm sorry to inform you Constable, a Miss Victoria Metcalfe was killed in an auto crash two months after her release from prison. Her will requested you be informed in case of her death.”
Fraser and Victoria go to Texas
It shouldn't be so easy. Maybe it isn't. Maybe the sun of Austin won't be bright or will burn him out faster than here. But she doesn't care, and he, he can't say no. He'd asked for the transfer, entirely prepared to resign if they'd said no. Moffat had given him an odd look, like pity, but also considering his general problematic work, he was approved. He would use his sick time as leave in interim.
There was hardly anything to pack. His father's trunk, which Victoria assured would fit in a small rented U-Haul. All that was needed for them. Dief could stay in there as well. They'd stop during intervals to check on him. He seemed so displeased, Fraser half considered leaving him here, maybe with Willie?, but couldn't voice it anymore than he could say he'd prefer Dief in the car with them. Yet, Dief was loyal, so he watched and was going along silently, perhaps caged just like his master.
That left Ray. Something, and someone owed alot more than Fraser knew he could ever give.
It had ended as it should have if he'd truly been as cowardly or stupid as when he'd first come to Chicago. As it could've when he'd first left but hadn't really wanted to say goodbye.
A phone call from a payphone, outside the limits of town. Yes, your money is with Mr. Mustafi Ray. I'm sorry, you see, I have to go. I can't let her go. You friendship has meant so much to me. I know it doesn't seem it but...my regrets... I have to...I'll try to keep in touch. Of course, as a friend.
No forwarding address or number ever came.
Victoria and Dief killed by Jolly
The gunshot echoes in the night air. And the second.
He's already winded from chasing Ray, so he doesn't have much head start. The stairs and climb are daunting.
The door is wide open. Dief lays in his pool of blood near the cupboards, near the window leading to the fire escape, also thrown wide.
Victoria's crumpled by the bed, and the ransacked trunk, like she'd made a last ditch effort to retrieve his fire-arm within.
He doesn't bother to check Dief because it doesn't matter does it.
She's clearly dead.
Victoria's lawyer sucks and she goes back to prison
She'd been granted bail on the condition of being watched by two officers of the law. She'd languished in his little hell hole apartment for months untils trial. She'd followed the lawyers advice and dressed demurely and acted contrite and frightened for her life.
She saved her remaining rage for Benton in private. And though it still binds them, it wasn't enough. She's doesn't feel guilty like him.
She'd still refused to say where her portion of the money Jolly was stalking her for went. Root of all her evils, it damns her again.
The sentence is only five years. This time.
Fraser's eyes as he stares at her in shock as she's lead from the court in cuffs, after she'd turned from the verdict to pound his chest, or was it to go for his friend Ray's side arm and end this ... Well, 5 years isn't worth it, but at least he's getting the life sentence.
So damn him and his plea deals.
Fraser doesn't find the key at Ray's house in time
IA had taken ten minutes to get from the station to the Vecchio home. They didn't bother to think on the why of the anonymous call or record it so there will be no way to trace it as evidence later. Perhaps guilty conscious explains why he told on himself. No one will bother to remember it was a call from a woman.
Welsh, Huey and Louey were only two minutes behind. Ray Vecchio flagged by a rookie, who was radio-ed by Elaine, won't even make it to the scene, won't get to see or understand because he'll be redirected. He'll be once again staring at Fraser, blocked by glass, from the other side of the holding cells phones. Fraser won't pick up the receiver to answer him.
So Ray won't know the loss and what little it will be to what could've. Fraser's versus his own imprisonment or loss of bail and home. It's all Fraser feels he can do, but of course Ray doesn't understand him. Fraser doesn't want him to. But still Ray Vecchio sees the sad and forlorn and determined after confession, and refuses anything else.
That full confession makes easy conviction. What IA walking in saw.
A manic faced man amongst the ruins of the Vecchio's house. Rooms upheaved in mad search. A man who seemed caught frozen on the stairwell, phone left dangling over the bannister. Who greeted them with odd, flat words as if spoke to the air;
“I couldn't...I can't find the key.”
And the long poignant pause, his mask slipping on as Welsh stepped through the torn front door, as he finally registered them and added “The key, which I had previously planted. I would like to confess to the murder of Jolly Roberts for money from a former robbery, and attempted framing of my work colleague Ray Vecchio before I could flee with my portion of the cash. I believe cuffs are in order gentlemen.”
He paused again as he stepped through threshold and said to the three former friends standing agape "Can you tell Ray... I'm sorry about the mess."

advice
Aethelred asks Aldhelm for advice. Aldhelm tries to oblige.
for @aadmelioraa 💚 Happy Birthday, Kat!
read it on ao3
As soon as Aldhelm stepped inside the Starbucks and saw Aethelred arguing with the barista, he very seriously considered turning around, getting in his car, and blocking Aethelred’s number.
But too late, Aethelred saw him and waved him over, and then Aldhelm had no choice.
“Thanks for agreeing to meet with me,” Aethelred said, grabbing his cappuccino from the counter. He turned to the barista and said, as if speaking to someone who might be hard of hearing, “I asked for extra hot. And it had better not have any foam!”
The barista stared sullenly back at him.
“You want anything?” Aethelred asked, not waiting for an answer as he headed towards a table near the back of the coffeeshop.
Aldhelm gave the barista an apologetic look and followed the other man, taking the wobbly chair across from him. “So you need legal advice?” he asked with no small amount of trepidation.
“Yes.” Aethelred sipped his coffee and scowled. “They put foam in this.”
“I think all cappuccinos have foam,” Aldhelm said delicately.
“What?”
“I think that’s what makes them cappuccinos.”
“No, it isn’t,” Aethelred said with so much confidence that for a moment, even Aldhelm wondered if he might be wrong.
As it was, he decided not to press the matter. “What sort of legal advice do you need?”
“Ah.” Aethelred set down his coffee. “It’s about the divorce.”
“Well, I won’t be of much help; I practice copyright law, not family law,” Aldhelm pointed out.
“Yes, but it’s all the law,” Aethelred said.
Aldhelm opened and closed his mouth. “Well…”
“Look, I just want your perspective, as a lawyer, before I pursue anything.”
Well, that seemed reasonable enough. Certainly more reasonable than most things Aethelred did. “Alright. Shoot.”
Aethelred took another sip and frowned, though whether because of the foamy cappuccino or the divorce, Aldhelm was not sure. “As part of the financial agreement, Aethelflaed and I agreed that I would keep my cryptocurrency assets while she got the lion’s share of my pension and other investments.”
Oh no, Aldhelm thought, already struggling to keep a straight face.
“When we negotiated last spring, the crypto market was doing well, and my source said it would continue,” Aethelred continued, oblivious to Aldhelm white-knuckling the table. “But there was a crash recently, I don’t know if you heard…”
“I hadn’t,” Aldhelm choked out.
“Yes, well, my assets have more than halved in value,” Aethelred said miserably. “I’m now far worse off than Aethelflaed, and I’ll be honest, I’m a bit worried about my finances. I tried talking to her about it–”
Aldhelm pressed his hand against his mouth lest he make an ill-advised comment.
“She says I only have myself to blame and she refuses to discuss the matter further.” Aethelred looked up at Aldhelm. “So, what do you think? Can I take her to court and renegotiate the financial agreement?”
Aldhelm stared at him for a long moment. Finally, he lowered his hand and said. “You can, and I think you should.”
“Really?” Aethelred asked hopefully.
“Absolutely. Judges so rarely get the chance to openly laugh at people.”
Aethelred’s face turned red. “If you think it’s a bad idea–”
“Oh, I think it’s a terrible idea,” Aldhelm said cheerfully. “For you, at any rate. No judge in their right mind would take your side. Now, maybe if you got a very, very good lawyer, you might be able to work something out, but seeing as you are, in your own words, far worse off than Aethelflaed and worried about your finances, I don’t see that happening.”
Aethelred scowled. “Oh, what do you know? You practice copyright law,” he snapped.
“You’re right, I probably don’t know anything,” Aldhelm said in a pleasant tone, getting to his feet. “Just my perspective before you pursue anything.” He started to leave, stopped, and turned back. “And cappuccinos are supposed to have foam. If they didn’t, they’d just be an espresso.” He turned back towards the door.
“Thank you,” the barista said timidly.
Aldhelm opened and closed his mouth, and then settled for an awkward two-fingered salute before he left the Starbucks.
Silence descended over the coffeeshop, broken a moment later by, “Did you charge me for a large? I asked for a medium in a large cup! That still only counts as a medium!”

Understanding Personal Injury Cases
A personal injury case arises when someone suffers harm from an accident or an incident where another person might be legally responsible. From car crashes to slip-and-fall mishaps, these cases may vary widely. As an expert in injury law, a personal injury lawyer near me is equipped to scrutinize each situation efficiently and map out the best legal course for you.
Role of My Local Personal Injury Lawyer
The foremost role of your local personal injury lawyer is to represent you in the face of complex legal systems and insurance company bureaucracies following an accident. Chapter 13
“Yes, I see on your transcript. And there were positive reports from all you coaches.”
Editors? Ha! Who are they?
Actually, now I’m kind of curious if this was self-published or not.
Nope. Looks self-published.
“You spoke to the coaches?”
She nodded absently, her eyes still on the paper. “We speak to all of your teachers before admission.”
So they have all of the info about her, but not the fact that she’s not actually a wolf. Great.
“I’m just not sure this is the right school for me. I mean, I appreciate the education. We never had fancy computers in my old school, and the free meals are a bonus.”
The problem is that in order to actually benefit from the better education opportunity, Vail actually has to receive the education.
Instead, she’s being put in classes intended for 12 year olds, rather than a girl who’s counting down the days until her graduation.
“An Unclassified student can still go on to be an important contributor, Vail. The pack estates only employ insiders, so there are opportunities for all sorts of caregivers.”
Again, why do they even bother with the charade of giving these people an education? Why not hand them a toilet brush as soon as possible? You don’t need to know algebra or Shakespear to do that.
“What about other staff positions? Accountants, or lawyers, or whoever mows the pack lawns?”
“Well, those jobs are traditionally reserved for the male Unclassified, or the lower-ranking wolves.”
Is this a fucking joke? Do you know how long it takes to get through law school? And forget about passing the bar.
And accountant classes are nothing to sneeze at, either.
“Mrs. Greyson, I want to start the process of transferring back to my old school. If you need my foster father’s permission, I can get that for you.”
He’s the one who sent you there!
She took another sheet of paper from the file. This one was typed and it took me a moment to realize it was a contract. Not the one I was likely to earn after graduation, but one between the school and Driftwood Chance. In exchange for my two years tuition, Driftwood received a sum of ten thousand dollars and a place was provided for Darkness at the Agri-Science College near Mount Whitnor. I felt a surge of happiness for Darkness, before my gaze settled back on the dollar sum. “The school paid Driftwood to send me here?”
Jesus fucking Christ on a stick. That sounds super goddamned illegal.
Either way, the only person I had to listen to was me.
Chapter 13 summary: Vail rushes back to her dorm, where she can’t stop thinking about what had happened. The entire thing seems bizarrely surreal to her.
After that night, time moves on a little bit. Despite the fact that she’s in baby classes, she’s grateful for them now, since it means that she doesn’t have to encounter Jasper anymore. She keeps her head down and keeps to herself.
After a few days, she gets called into the counsellor's office. At her old school, the counsellor was basically the person who had to deal with all of the inbred GENERATIONAL TRAUMA of the kids who lived up in the mountain.
Here, it seems that the role of the counsellor is more to keep the lower-ranking wolves in line. Because she’s all like “Your role will be to serve! If you’d grown up in the pack, you would have understood!” She asks about Vail’s biological parents, but Vail says that her mom died of cancer when she was four, and her dad died in a car crash. The counsellor seems to be of the opinion that Vail’s bio-dad was a wolf, and thinks that it’s odd that he would have been killed in such a way. And that he would have kept his wolf heritage from his child.
The counsellor shows Vail that the school literally paid Driftwood a lot of money to buy her. Like she’s a goddamned used car or some shit. As this info sinks in, Vail realises that there’s literally only one person who’s going to look out for her: herself.
Chapter 14
I’d spent most of the night tossing and turning, one moment determined to grab my backpack and run, and the next thinking of Driftwood, and what the Academy money would mean to him over the winter.
JFC girl. The man literally sold you for a life of luxury for himself. The guy doesn’t give a shit about you. Screw how he’s going to spend the rest of his life, when you’re literally being denied food.
Even the guidance counsellor hadn’t really been interested in helping me.
HIghlighting again how completely and utterly fucked up it was that this goddamned adult heard that this child was being brutally abused, and did nothing.
Yet a 14 year old hears the plight of this 17 year old girl she doesn’t even know and wants to help.
“So, you don’t want to be pack?” Her gaze was riveted on mine and I wondered why her eyes, which were a softer, deep blue than Jasper’s, seemed so much colder. “After everything the Arras Pack has done for you, inviting you to the Clan Caves, and looking out for you around the school. Are you’re rejecting our claim?”
I don’t possibly know how anybody could possibly reject such a tantalising offer. /sarcasm
“Really?” I couldn’t help poking the beast a little. “I wouldn’t have guessed.”
Chapter 14 summary: The next morning, a freshman comes into the dud breakfast room, and introduces herself as Marnie. She’s obviously heard of Vail, because I guess people gossip as much as any other school.
Marnie says that she has this project for her “scrapbooking” class, and that’s to interview Jasper. And also to find out what his favourite meal is, so that she can cook it for him in her cooking class. Which… wow. No words.
Anyway, against her better judgement, Vail agrees to help her find Jasper so that Marnie can interview him. But that means actually having to come face to face with him. Which she hasn’t done since the night in the shower.
However, once she has Jasper’s attention, she also has Pearl’s attention. Because that girl literally wouldn’t know how to keep her fat nose out of literally anything. She seems to be of the opinion that Vail is about ready to reject the pack and leave. And I don’t know why Vail doesn’t tell her as much.
Eventually, Jasper agrees to meet up with the girls later.

Causeway Bay: The Fascinating History Of ‘The Diamond Of Hong Kong’, From Coffee Farm To Simple And Innocent Residential Area With Warehouses In The 1950s, As Recollected By A Barrister David Lai
I do not keep a diary. I remember too little. When I was in a scene, I hardly paid it any mind. The memory of being with others is often offered by others to me as a lasting impression of their own.
Causeway Bay (CWB) (銅鑼灣) is a very famous shopping district in Hong Kong. There is a big department store Sogo and what in front of it is the super busy pedestrian scramble crossing. Every minute, people in all directions inundate the entire intersection. The spectacular sight ‘Sogo Crossing’ is akin to the famous ‘Shibuya Crossing’ in Tokyo.
CWB means Copper Gong Bay. In 1916, the southern foothills of it were coffee plantations. There is still a cemetery by the nickname of ‘coffee plantation cemetery’ (咖啡園墳場). Its proper name is Mount Caroline Cemetery.
CWB was originally a bay located between North Point (北角) and Wan Chai (灣仔). The area has been chiefly reclaimed along the southern seashore of Victoria Harbour(維多利亞港). CWB of today is an area that was water a few hundred years ago. In 1841, the British colonial government sold a large plot of land, very near the typhoon shelter where thousands of fishermen lived, to the opium trader Jardine Matheson and they turned the area into godowns and factories.
My barrister friend David Lai (黎德誠) remembered, “In the 1950s when I was a child living there, Causeway Bay was not as busy as Central (中環) or Wan Chai (灣仔). The huge warehouses area was later demolished and turned into many stylish residential blocks with seaview balconies in the late 50s. These blocks now form the bustling shopping district of Paterson Street (百德新街), Great George Street (記利佐治街) and Kingston Street (京士頓街).”
David is quick-witted, helpful and sincere. His grandfather and father were grain trading merchant in Mainland China, Hong Kong and South Asia before World War II.  After the war, his father assisted in managing one of the first 5-star Chinese restaurant Café de Chine (大華大飯店) with a nightclub on the rooftop at the junction of Pedder Street (畢打街) and Queen’s Road Central (皇后大道中). He was a sporty and righteous young man. In the 70s, he was an Assistant Station Officer of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, starting as a Probationary Inspector of the Royal Hong Kong Police and, as time went by, served as the Personal Assistant of the Commissioner of Police Raymon Anning (顏理國) and as the Head of Interpol Hong Kong before leaving the Force to join the private sector as top executive of local entities and regional head of multinational corporations. Fond of law and court trials, the secret urge of being a brave barrister crashed on him. He gave up his corporate’s top executive career and started afresh as a junior lawyer. Now, he is a busy barrister boxed up in his office helping people to look for justice especially over trust and commercial matters.
David sighed, “When I was a child, the northeast side of Causeway Bay was quiet as there were many warehouses including cold storage(The Dairy Farm Ice & Cold Storage Co) and ice factories. A typhoon shelter was outside the waterfront (it was later reclaimed to become Victoria Park (維多利亞公園), the biggest park in Hong Kong).
During the day, thousands of fishermen lived on boats in the shelter. At night, some boats hang up red lanterns and put up colourful paper festoons. They became seafood restaurants. Other boats became floating cabarets. The air was pervaded with singing, music of erhu and claps of the hands. The water shelter was also a ‘swimming pool’ for the kids. We caught small mussels, cockles and clams and later surrendered them to mother for cooking.”
I asked David, “What are your special memories about Causeway Bay in the 50s?” He smiled, “In the 50s, you could park your car anywhere in Causeway Bay. Now, there is hardly any place for one to stand or any space for a car to pass in the clamour of the crowded streets.”
David carried on, “In those days, funeral service at home was legal. The end of the ceremony was that coffin would be lowered with a rope from balcony to the street. Then, a funeral procession ensued. The deceased was carried by a van to the final resting place. Family members followed the vehicle on foot. Musicians played traditional Chinese farewell music and suonas (‘啲打’), gongs (鑼) and drums(鼓) were the common instruments. We, as kids, shared no sorrow but made fun of such events.”
I explored history, “What made Causeway Bay a busy shopping district in the 60s?” David felt pity, “From 1958 to 1962, there was an economic and social campaign called ‘The Great Leap Forward (大躍進)’ in China. The campaign was to reconstruct the country from an agrarian economy into an industrialized society through extreme measures. But, the campaign failed and a famine was resulted. Refugees flocked to Hong Kong and Causeway Bay was suddenly flooded by thousands of homeless people strewing along, down and across the roads. I recall that they slept on the staircases and roofs of buildings, including our block. Even the Police could not stop such tramps. Some squatters took over empty roofs and built iron sheet houses. Other opportunistic flat owners subdivided their units into small cubicles and let them to refugees. The loss was that Causeway Bay became so beaten down that it stopped having the refined middle-class residential aura. The gain was that consensual interest of new immigrants in Causeway Bay made her a very densely-populated area. Gradually, old, elegant and spacious blocks without ground-level shops were pulled down. Tall, packed and multi-functional buildings with tiny dwellings, shops and workshops for tailors, goldsmiths and shoemakers replaced. The simple and innocent Causeway Bay in the 50s was gone. I told myself it was vital to be optimistic when the world seemed to have suddenly a very strange face!”
I listened with great enthusiasm, “Does it ring true that Causeway Bay was a lucky place with great ‘earth pulse’ feng shui?” David thought about it, “Not necessarily true. There are objective factors. Watching football matches was a popular pastime in those years. The Hong Kong Stadium (former name ‘Government Stadium’) there, opened in 1955, housed more than 20,000 audience members. So, every day, thousands of people went in and out of Causeway Bay. Besides, Causeway Bay was a new area and it was easier to accommodate the construction of huge cinemas. There were almost 10 in the district, the then mega movies like Ben-Hur (1959), The Longest Day (1962) and Zulu (1964) were shown in big cinemas like Roxy(樂聲) and Hoover(豪華).” I added, “When I was a small boy living in Wan Chai, my parents often took me to Causeway Bay to watch movies. They said Causeway Bay offered more varieties such as Hollywood, Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong movies.”
David concluded, “In 1960, the first Japanese department store Daimaru (大丸) arrived in Hong Kong and it settled down in Causeway Bay. The shopping paradise selling Japanese trendy things attracted crowds after crowds. It is a regret that Daimaru, once hot, was no longer hot. It finally vanished in 1998! Surely, it contributed tremendously to the past prosperity of Causeway Bay.”
We cannot get through a single day without changes around us. The present Causeway Bay was developed 70             years ago but can it survive the challenge of another 70 years? We yearn for the better changes. Whenever I walk around in Causeway Bay, I find new shops and restaurants. Sadly, it is also getting aged and dirty at the same time. Need for urban renewal is a pressing problem in Hong Kong. One has to endure bad traffic, air pollution and crowdedness in Causeway Bay now. We all look forward to more gentrification there, the transformation of a city neighbourhood from poor environment to higher-value surroundings particularly with more trees. The 2 eye-soaring filthy footbridges in Yee Wo Street are already the ‘monsters’, worth the urgency of rebuilding!
