Melbourne
Up stupidly early given how little we have slept recently but it meant we got into the city and parked by 8.30 so we could find some coffee and breakfast. we parked just off Little Bourke St close to the Victoria Parliament building so after breakfast in a cafe we started our mammoth walking tour with the Parliament building and the Old treasury buildings before heading across Fitzroy Gardens towards Cooks cottage. I am surprised at how many buildings have Dutch gable effects and there are some stunning Victorian buildings with high decoration interspersed with the most modern of high rise within the central CBD. There are also a surprising amount of parks and in that sense it does remind me a little of London with the bustling city intersected by beautiful Victorian Parks , though there are far less people here than in London of course. As it is summer here the flowers and parks are laid out beautifully with loads of flowers and we also met some very tame local birds who are clearly used to approaching people.
At Cooks Cottage there was a useful info point where we were able to pick up some maps and here we also learned that within the central area the trams are totally free which we didn't know so later on we did make the most of that snippet of info.
After seeing Cooks Cottage we made our way back towards Federation Square getting coffee on the way and then crossed the Yarra River towards Skydeck. We hadn't prebooked but it was certainly not busy despite the Aussie Tennis Open being on in the city at present and we were some of the first in at 12 noon when it opened. The lift to the 88th floor takes 38 seconds and the view from the top was very clear with a fab view right round including out over the ocean. We could clearly see the Rod Laver tennis centre and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Although there was a breeze it wasn't windy so we could also go out into the outdoor caged area.
Once we had descended we walked down through the Queen Victoria Gardens and the Kings Domain to the Shrine of Remembrance which is a stunning epitaph to all those who have served in wars even a memorial to the horses. By now the heat had started to rack up and on the way back we did have to go both slowly and edge from patch of shade to patch of shade as it was simply too hot to be out in the open.
Back at Flinders Street we got the free tram out to the Docklands area. I think we both expected this are to be a bit busier and bustling with people but no, hardly anyone. There were just a few luxury yachts but we did find an amazingly good Lebanese restaurant and the food was amazing and frankly there was far to much for the two of us so we ended up with a large doggy box of food which should do us for tonight.
Then it was back to the tram and back to Bourke Street to the car about 3.30pm and then the attempt to get out of town to Geelong with a sat nav that was rubbish and didn't recognised road closures and with Andy following that instead of my instructions we did end up going through the city in quite an interesting and challenging manner. It doesn't help that to the west of Melbourne there is a major new highway being constructed at high level. It is going to take years but at present it is just traffic chaos.
we eventually got out and headed to our overnight motel in Geelong , clean and practical but nothing special but only 5 minutes from the Spirit of Tasmania ferry which we need to catch tomorrow at 7.30am.
Don't think it will be a late night!

Ford Wreckers Market Undamaged Parts For Sale
The ford wreckers Geelong market is not only a great solution for the environment, but also for those who want to save money. With used parts from recycled vehicles that have been destroyed in accidents or floods, you can get high-quality parts at affordable prices.
The need to preserve the environment
The environment is important, and it’s only getting more significant in the current generation. If you are part of the trend to preserve our planet, then you can consider buying from us. We are a recycling company that is doing its best to protect the environment.
You will be able to save money on your purchase when you buy from us because we only sell aftermarket parts that are not used or damaged in any way. The parts we sell have been tested for quality and performance, so there is no need for you to worry about whether or not they will work well with your vehicle.
Recycle sells high-quality parts
Recycle sells high-quality parts that are not damaged. They are cleaned and polished, which means that once you have installed the part on your vehicle, it will look as good as new.
The recycled part market is a growing one, with many people opting for second-hand parts instead of new ones because they can be much cheaper and help reduce environmental damage from manufacturing new products. The most common types of recycled auto parts include:
https://avatars.mds.yandex.net/i?id=737f15466e057e1425771f5267c21fe4-4119765-images-thumbs&n=13&exp=1
Engines – these can be old or new; any engine will do!
Body panels – most common body panels include doors, hoods, and bumpers; however, some bigger-bodied vehicles have more options such as front fenders (which are usually made from fiberglass) or even whole roofs!
Brakes – brake pads can be reused many times over and are very cost-effective compared to buying new ones; however, they do need to be replaced at some point. Exhaust systems – these can be used in a different vehicle or sold as scrap metal.
Wheels are also commonly recycled because they are made from aluminum alloy which is valuable and easy to recycle.
Used parts are easy to repair
At first, it may seem like used parts are not worth your time. However, if you think about it, a new replacement part for your car can cost much more than the price of a used one.
The used part will also last longer and be less likely to break down or malfunction than its newer counterpart would be. A few years from now when you’re ready to buy another car, you’ll have saved enough money on repairs that buying an entirely new vehicle won’t seem as necessary.
The most important reason to buy used parts for your car is that they are safer. Newer parts are often made of materials that haven’t been tested as thoroughly as their older counterparts, which means there is a chance they could fail in a dangerous way.
Used parts have also been around long enough to be repaired by professionals and made as safe as possible before being put back into circulation.
Conclusion
Ford wreckers Geelong is equipped with the latest technology, which allows us to salvage the most-used part. They will make sure that the remaining parts and components are safe for reuse.

Many owners value their vehicles as a sign of class and social status. To them, frequent detailing and keeping the car shining and clean is immensely essential. Steam features the unique ability of cleaning and sanitizing the automobile simultaneously. The process effectively kills germs, bacteria, mould, viruses, bugs, and other micro-organisms.

My train hit a cow on my way home from the ocean today which started a whole chain of events so I am 98% delirious. - Eh. What??
Haha, yeaaaahhh. Nothing really went according to plan, but I did still have a good time? I was planning on spending the 2.5 days in the water out at Port Campbell on the Great Ocean Road, but it stormed all weekend, then the sharks came in, and then I went to do some bush walking instead, but there were a lot of snakes, so instead I went antiquing and bought some cute second-hand things and drank way too much, which was still pretty fun, but not really what I’d planned at all.
Port Campbell’s about a three hour drive from my house, but I prefer to catch the train because I usually write on it + my car is extremely old and I don’t like driving very much. Anyway, we got on the train at Camperdown today (which is basically cattle country) to come home, made it one stop, and a cow had managed to wander onto the tracks and um.
It did not end well for the cow.
We all had to get off, but then they only sent one bus to pick everyone up because they’d forgotten we needed to be socially distanced because - y’know - global pandemic. They then wanted us to wait until the next day to catch a new train home because there were only seven of us left, but the other passengers and I somehow managed to talk them into sending a second bus so we could get home today.
We still had to wait there for two hours for the bus to arrive though, and the backdrop was just them cleaning the cow off the train. THEN this other passenger had this huge ugly rage fit about the whole situation because he said his wife was going to divorce him if he didn’t get home tonight, and just started yelling at everyone saying it was all our fault (???) until his friend took him for a walk. Then the bus arrived, but instead of taking us back to Melbourne like they said they were going to, they dropped us at the Geelong train station (which is about an hour out of Melbourne) and the ticket person got mad at us because our tickets weren’t for leaving Geelong, they were for leaving Camperdown, and THEN we had a lot of teenage boys on my train who were awful, and played the train running game?
I don’t know if that’s a thing in other parts of the world, but it’s where when the train stops at a station, you jump off and run down the platform to the carriage at the back of the train and try to get on it before the train leaves again. Anyway, a bunch of boys were doing this back and forth for the entire hour until the last few stops where they were obviously too tired, and one of them got stuck in the train door and the rest of them furiously started throwing things at the train instead??
It was all weird.
We managed to pull the kid through the door though at least and he seemed bruised but unharmed?
Anyway, my three hour train trip became a six hour train-bus-train trip and it kind of sucked a bit. This was like, my first real trip out into the world post the lockdown here too, and - -
Yes.
Weird, hahaha.

Christmas is hell in my world - To be continued
Blood rushing to my head, heart palpitations beating faster than an electronic dance music track and bleeding from my head with a flow like a river. 14-years of this shit, 14 fleeting moments of beatings in a time period of 10 minutes. I’m on my floor, concussed with a swollen face, blood dripping off my face into the floorboard cracks. As the blood dries on my face, then makes it hard to open my eyes with the drying of the blood working as a glue on my eye lashes. The rats in the walls hear silence and make their way near me. I was frozen from the previous events, so I probably came across as an inanimate object of my room. Who did this to me? My father. Why?
The morning before I’m immobilized on my bedroom floor.
Eyes heavier than a dumbbell. I’m Half-asleep and half-awake, before the sun beaming through my bent and crooked cheap aluminon cheap blinds, make me fully aware of the day. Waking up in my own personal hell. Today isn’t just any other day. Today is Christmas. Therefore, it’s a Christmas lunch today with my family which seem like a bunch of strangers who hate me. I’m very much the black sheep. You grow up thinking adults are mature, but sometimes they act like they are still in high school, like a peer I would come across in the hallway.  But perhaps I am the problem. Sigh, why do I always feel like I’m the issue for everything I do. Do all 14-year-old boys feel like this? Sometimes I feel like a fish being pulled backwards and drowning in my own environment. Having the resources like gills and still consuming toxicity.
We are taking a full car from Ballarat to Melbourne. Guess what, I’m in the middle even knowingly I am taller than my sister Shannon. Shannon is three years older than me; she is about to go into her final year at high school. She has a good work effort, quite pretty, has freckles and long thick brunette hair. When I encountered a bullying ideal at school, she mentioned to me “once you let people walk all over you, they will be doing it for the rest of your life. In some sense I could already understand what she was talking about, with my current abuser, my father. All I knew what to do, was freeze and take it like a punching bag.
I don’t speak up or challenge any logical statement of being taller to not sit in the middle, because the consequence is more physically brutal of having a boney ass and no leg room for an hour and a half. Much better than being whipped by a belt, smacked in the face and whatever my father feels like doing to me. He struggles with his own personal problems and looks me like a punching bag, then when he wants to release his anger, he hits, kicks, throws plates, belt and whatever he wants.
Have a small bite of Weet-Bix then straight into the shower. I close the wooden door and make way into the shower filled with moldy walls. Stare at the spider in the web before washing my hair. In this moment I’m fantasying dropping dead. Perhaps being turned into ash like some magical spell in some sci-fi shit on tv, sci-fi or fiction? Who the fuck knows, I don’t! All I know is I want my ashes being washed down the drain like no such thing as existence of myself Xavier. I relive a memory of watching Saw with my mother, while she was spaced out on crack and I was seven. Admired the beauty that they had endure the pain and mostly they dyed afterwards, while I was constantly enduring more and more abuse without being relieved of my pain through death. So… death seemed pleasurable today.
I wash my hair quickly, since getting a “hurry up Xavier” from my other sister Nikkita, through the wooden door. Now Nikkita is a very amazing athlete, dual sports or being a national athlete, finalist and medalist, I’ve always admired her. Also admired her when she put her body on the line between myself and dad, when his red bull anger was bursting, and he was trying to hurt me. I was at the door, she was in-between myself and dad, while she was not letting him through. She was in a sense stronger than him. In this moment anyways, because she wasn’t backing down and she was firm, and he couldn’t get through. She was pushing him away, while was trying to her out of the way.
I get dressed in some shorts and a T-Shirt. Now we all make our way to the car. We drive to another suburb in Ballarat, to Nan’s home. We are taking her car, on the basis of ours was gross and my father looked after things very poorly. Nan is a, my way of the highway type of women. I have a Ying and Yang love for that part of her.
We arrive, say our hellos’. Then we pack the car with my Nans dishes. Now we are on the road to Geelong. I’m so wrecked and not prepared for this day. In this car trip, I’m quite quiet. I have decided that I won’t speak any more than I need to for the day. Because I seem to always tend to be the problem. The “know it all”. This remark stems from earlier years working out basic logical problems, which ignited hatred towards my intellect. These problems solving were over many different factors in life. But one what comes to mine, is trying to fit a couch through a doorway. I suggested another way, since the initial way of trying to force it through was not working. So, I suggested “how about we try putting it on an angle”. Then my father gave up, had a little tantrum, stormed through the door and slammed the screen wire, like a four-year-old not getting a chocolate at the checkout at Coles. Left my sisters and I, to work out how to get this fucking couch into the house while he is defusing his tempter in his room. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion to be polite and not react to any remarks made by the adults on this Christmas day. Since everything I do and say is just a problem. I sincerely saying this, I’m not being sarcastic, I just want everyone to have a good time and if I do not speak, I think that will be the easiest way.
Looking past the paddocks into the skyline. Listening to my tunes and minding my business. All is going to plan. Just a normal trip, nothing abnormal. Few remarks about us, made by nan. Some body shaming to my beautiful sister Nikkita, influencing Shannon to be more proper and you know, the “know it all” remark made about me even knowingly I am being dead quiet. So in short it is a shit travel from point A to point B.
We arrive. My uncle grant and his wife Christie are the hostesses of this Christmas lunch. Also, Uncle Brett and his wife Andrea are here. With their kids, Nigel and Glen. Greetings to all, I am being polite also a little closed off not to draw to much attention to myself. I have now just witnessed Andrea and Nan accidently peck while greeting each other. I’m moving gently throughout the space and saying hello. I’m sitting on the couch with my mouth shut, but the conversations are drifting between footy (AFL) and the cricket. Two things, I am no longer interested in, but I do not voice anything. Wow. I think I am the problem. The social setting is a dynamic with only signs of peace and joy in this festive. Dad’s laughing loudly. Nan’s smiling. Pa is being the beautiful soul he is. I’m sitting on the couch, identifying I am the problem. That moment of nothingness is followed through with the hollow feeling. The feeling of emptiness, and my thoughts are thinking, I deserve every shred of abuse in endure. I’m a broken piece of shit which brings my family anger.
I make my way out-side to pat the dog. This dog is a stunning Kings Charles, named Penny. Doesn’t bark and is very friendly. I’m patting Penny outside so I can take a breath. I need a second. A second to wrap my head around, that I am a fucking burden to everyone. I am this fucking know it all twat. I want to cry, but dry less tears are coming out since I’m so fucking empty. Soo fucking over everything. I am that “cunt” one of my friend’s parents at the time called me, when over afterschool in grade 6, yes, fucking primary school. I am also that “cunt” my dad called me at 5 years old. I am stupid and ugly which my step mum called me. I am weird. I am arrogant which the dads at the swim club called me. I deserve to be the laughingstock at the swim club’s presentation when dad was awarded the golden clip board award, for breaking one over my head when I was 7 years old in Melton. They all laughed so fucking hard over awarding him it, may as well created the term “lol” before the internet slang took over in later years. I’m all the names grant calls me, I’m worth $5 a day to clean a whole house like Christy said. I’m ungrateful like every single fucking adult in my life has told me, if that’s family or teachers and everything in-between. Perhaps, they can smell the homo on me. And I am an abomination against reproduction and to this conservative family. All the beltings for crying when I was younger. I fucking deserve to have my emotions beaten out of me. The ringing ears from being so consumed by my thoughts gets broken by the calling of me name. “Xavier” Nikkita slurs.
I shift my feet back inside, the realization of my own burden on others feels like my legs are twice as heavy… I’m just extra weight on others. Back inside. Sitting on the light-colored couch, and feet on the carpet-mat. Conversations are still that bleak short talk whether shit. Time passes and we all make our way outside.
It’s a scorcher of a day in Melbourne. I am now seated at the “kids table”, while the “adults:” are at the adult table. We are under a gazebo whole they are seated under a shelter. Everything isn’t still going to plan as I drown in my own guilt of being this factor of unhappiness to my family and a subject of pain for them too. Half or so hour later, we all make our way grabbing a white kitchen plate to plate our food. I get some ham, potato salad and lamb and of course gravy. Some salt and pepper and I’m ready to eat this delightful feed. Through the sliding glass doorway, minding my business while treading lightly protecting my plate of food. Bum to the plastic chairs, very similar to the ones in primary school. Fork and knife in unison eating this delicious plate in serenity.

EPISODE 1: Sam Veenbaas: Don’t Die Wondering.
At the base of Mount Youngal, a stones throw from the Murray River and about a days ride from Melbourne, the valley of Bunroy drips the frost from it's awnings and creaks with the morning sun. It's the middle of July and it's a colder cold than you've ever been. Around 30 free souls call this little valley home; including the greasy fingernails and Locky Lennard curls belonging to our mate Sammy Veenbaas. He's at a turning point in his life, a fork in the road, about to sign a deal with the Devil. On the one hand is stability and a monotonous 9-5 slaving away to the man, and on the other is freedom, stress, hardship and bloody good times. Such is life when all you want to do is bring old pieces of steel out of their slumber. But we all know that, that's why we're addicted to the smell of old oil, rat shit and sleezy centrefolds. This new deal with the Devil I'm referring to is a new business venture; shaking off the shackles. But lets leave that shit be for a minute and travel down the two lane blacktop to figure out where it all started for Sam.
Tumblr media
Hobo: Tell us about growing up mate.
Sam: Being born in Wodonga, growing up in the small town of Finley, NSW, we left there at the age of 3.5 and moved permanently to Wodonga, VIC. Living in Wodonga for over 20 years I thought I would get out and go visit the place they call ‘Gods Country’, at the foot of the snowy mountains in a small valley named Bunroy, about 25mins out of the town Corryong.
Hobo: Do you think life would be better or worse if you stayed there up until now?
Sam: Its been a turn for the better, that’s for sure. Living at the end of the line, no other properties after us, you don’t get to many visitors or passing by traffic. Its been a good way to clear the mind, figure out what I want in life and save some dollars to god knows what to do with.
Tumblr media
Hobo: Tell us about building the Fairlane.
Sam:  The old brown turd is a 1959 Ford Fairlane/Galaxie. It’s a two door hardtop from the states. Imported in about 2015. I bought it stock, a two tone red over white, with a little 223 inline 6 cylinder in it.
I picked it up in Geelong, off an old fella that had imported several cars from the states and didn’t have the time do get to them all, the day we picked it up we took it back to my cousins Hotrod and Custom shop in Coburg. Straight away I started stripping it, replacing bushes, pulling parts off it and getting it ready for paint. We painted it in a two day turn around, strip, rub back, mask up and paint. Was a rough job that was only meant for 12 months until I saved up for a proper paint job, but it’s been over four years now and it’s still there.
I was on my P plates and the little 6 was good, but I soon got sick of that. I ended up buying a Clevo and FMX auto to drop in, pulled the little 6 out, cleaned the engine bay, painted it and dropped the Clevo in.
I’ve slowly been doing it up. Little things here and there trying to get it to where I want it. My favourite mod so far would probably have to be my ‘Shag-pile’ roof line, it always gets compliments and makes people smile.
Tumblr media
Hobo: Did you ever want to do anything else besides work on cars or bikes?
Sam: I’ve been working on cars and bikes since I could walk or hold a tool. My old man was a big-time bike and car fella. I’d spend every night out in the shed with dad while mum was working late as a nurse. Weekends would consist of either working on something or driving around picking up parts or looking for new projects to buy. I honestly cannot remember ever thinking about doing anything else, it was a part of me, in my blood to work on cars and bikes. It keeps me sane.
Hobo: What have you got going on at the moment?
Sam: I’ve always got my Fairlane on the go; it’s one of those things that will never be ‘finished’. I’m always buying parts for it, coming up with new ideas and wanting to change something that I have already done to it.
I’m also currently helping my twin brother do a quick build of his ’73 iron head. It was a teardown, clean up, re-gasket, few new parts and full rewire. We also made a new king and queen seat and sissy bar for it. It got a new tins and fresh paint job while we went at it. We’re super close to finishing it and are both excited to see how it turns out.
Tumblr media
I’ve got my Harley, but it’s just a rider and park, wanting to keep it pretty stock for now.
Hobo: Do you have a favourite part of working on cars and bikes?
Sam: Nah, if I had to pick one thing, it would have to be the electrical work. Wiring is my go to. I believe it has a bit of an art to it; keeping it tidy, while making it work and most practical for your car or bike.
Hobo: Why do you think people do this shit, build things when they could just buy parts off a shelf?
Sam: I reckon half the reason comes down to quality, while also wanting to be able to say “I built that” in 30 years time when you’re still driving/riding it down the road and someone asks ‘where did you get that’. You also get that sense of accomplishment when you finish something and think, that thing is rad.
Hobo: Why is crafting things by hand so important?
Sam: I believe everyone has different skills. I think more people should ‘just give it a go’. Most of the time you can’t really wreck anything and if you do, just start again.
Making things by hand allows you to design it to your style, how you want it and to make it fit perfectly the first time you know? How many times have we bought parts off the internet or from the local auto parts store to find out we then have to modify it anyway?
Tumblr media
Hobo: What motto do you live by?
Sam: My old man always told us as kids, ‘Don’t Die Wondering’. That has always been the motto that I live by. You want something? Get it. You want to do something? Do it. Life’s to short to not do what you want to, who knows what’s coming around the next corner.
Hobo: What’s next for you?
Sam: Apart from my recent business venture (Veenbaas Mechanical), I am currently looking at a Pre Unit Triumph that’s for sale, pretty well sold on it but is proving difficult to go buy with all these restrictions going on in Victoria and not able to travel. If all goes well this will hopefully be my next project. After seeing Jimmy Staig’s green Pre Unit at the Boogaloo Invitational in 2017, I had to have one. Fast forward 3 years and my good buddy Luke Wallace’s Blue Pre Unit has sold me on them, in my opinion one of the most perfectly executed Triumph choppers I have seen.
Thanks for the time Sam. One of a dying breed; a gentleman and a good bloke. And that shag pile roof lining is absolutely ace. Cheers!
