Like a man possessed, I got to drawing this Rockstar AU for a character who literally never appears in the books beyond a few mentions. (I partially blame Kearwrights for encouraging this madness.)

Passionate about music, Auggie sets out to become a Rockstar and take care of his little brother, Laurent. The two are inseparable. Being a genius, Laurent even helps with some tracks and gets credited for his contributions. Everything is great—until Auguste overdoses and dies tragically.

Did their uncle, the CEO of a famous record label, have anything to do with it? Who’s to say.

But Laurent knew his brother was clean.

I hate being a nerd cause what do you mean i have to link my support cast of ultra niche characters to literally anything I’m currently doing. Why am i sitting here watching pacific rim going: “hmm, i wonder what kind of jaegers the cast of the captive prince trilogy would fight in.” OR if im I’m watching house of the dragon: “oh Damen would totally be Vermithor’s rider and Tessarion would be bonded with Aimeric.” (I have a list in my notes app thanks for asking). It's funny how you can tell when Laurent has really managed to take someone off guard in Akielos because they get so flustered they call him Exalted instead of Your Highness. Like that time an Akielon bannerman tried to argue that no one could possibly be ice-cold enough to sleep with their brother's killer, and Laurent revealed the cuff on his wrist and announced that yes, he actually is that heartless. Or that time Pallas walked in on him and Damen.

Then there's Nikandros, who doesn't ever actually address Laurent by a title. I guess he'll have to once they're in a more formal setting, but for now Laurent is just you, said very angrily.

Damen doesn't provoke people like Laurent does so it's less of a thing with him. But he once showed up unexpectedly at the medical tent and startled Paschal into calling him Your Majesty. And Guion insists on calling him Your Majesty all the time, probably because he's being an ass and he doesn't want to use an Akielon title.

I made a little captive prince dustjacket for myself hehe ✨️

I was a little frustrated that I couldn't get the polish captive prince special editions 😔 (And the new US covers weren’t out yet, but I will definetly get those now!!)

So I went: 'Fine. I'll do it myself."

I don't know what got into me, but I started to add more and more to this and it ended up taking me 60 hrs 💀

Still not satisfied with everything (especially the font and frame) but it's ok, maybe I'll come back to that a little later ✨️

!Not everything is super accurate since it has been some time since I read the books and I (again 😭) didn't have them with me, while working on this!

sorry i'm still just so hung up on the fact that captive prince is portrayed by the general public as a series that glorifies slavery and sexual assault (aka the pinnacle of no consent) when in actuality the core theme is that the most important thing you can give someone else is their freedom and their agency and their ability to consent. like even though laurent has all this power over damen at the start of the series, even though he abuses that power a handful of times, ultimately those two spend the entire series figuring out how to best serve the other in order to overcome the violence that was done to and by each of them - not because they're in a master/slave relationship, but simply because they care about the other person and they know that neither of them was allowed the consent they deserved in previous relationships and situations!!! and at the end of all of it, they accept not only that they have been hurt by lack of consent but they acknowledge that they have been abusers in their own ways, perpetuating a system that is harmful and cruel, and when they join together to create a new kingdom they make a point to put an end to the slavery that brought them together in the first place!!!!!!! what the fuck!!!!
