128 Captain Steve’s Caring Kingdom written and directed by Mike Ooi for The Factory Theater. I think the first Factory show I saw was Poppin’ and Lockdown in 2002, and had been a fan/friend since then. But after several missed attempts at an audition (Ren Faire, I’m looking at you) I finally got the chance to come and play on Captain Steve’s Caring Kingdom. CSCK took the premise that the lovable characters who populate these lands that children’s TV hosts visit, have lives full of the same complications that our world has, and indeed some go deeper and darker. It also asks the question, what happens when a god dies? Captain Steve was the visitor to the Caring Kingdom, and his death sends shockwaves through the entire land, unleashing chaos and mayhem and death. And a turtle with dangerous proclivities. I played Beaky the Falcon, hard drinking best friend with issues to OK Bear who was also Captain Steve’s best friend. OK is married to Ellie and they have a child named Grimby, who has special needs. And Ellie has grown resentful that every time she needs OK’s help, he’s running off on (non-paying) adventure with Captain Steve, while she is stuck in a toxic work environment, and it’s putting stress on their marriage. A perversely dark (but funny) show, and some of the best people in the business to do it with. If you ever wanted to see imaginary character die in horrible ways, this was the show for you. #retrospective #2017 #thefactorytheater #captainstevescaringkingdom #mikeooi #beakythefalcon #okbear #piratemonkey #hestheking (at The Factory Theater) https://www.instagram.com/p/B83-ijAJFO5/?igshid=8cno93sbq5m6
