House Sarrokkæn organisation :
Piloting ranks :  Knight-Pilots constitute the top tier of House Sarrokkæn nobility.
Nobles :
Princeps : Head of House, currently Princeps Nefo Sarrokkæn the third.
Exalted Court Baron / Baroness : ranking just below the princeps, they also have non-hereditary titles and specific duties. (e.g. Baron Weralt Sarrokkæn, Forge Master of The Black Fortress).
Baron / Baroness : knight pilot of higher feudal rank, able to count on a certain amount of knightly vassals. A Baron’s power and influence is measured in the number of vassals they have at their disposal. Barons usually plead fealty to one of the members of the Exalted Court.
Knight : standard pilot-knight title
Knight-apparent : If a knight didn’t get to participate in a battle as a squire, they will hold this title until they do.
Squire : Squires are youngers who are being groomed to become pilot-knights and learning the ropes while piloting Armiger-class warmachines. Squires steer their Armigers without being bonded to a knight.
Squire-apparent : Squire who is a sanctioned pilot but who’s skill is yet to be tested in battle.
Squire Pressumptive : Younger destined to become a pilot either through testing or as it is often the case in the higher strata of nobility, by head of family decision.
Non-Noble :
Venator : title usually granted to exceptionnally skilled Milites Gregarii who have managed to fall in the good graces of their lord or lady and have been allowed to follow the Armiger-class training along with noble Youngers. Venator who have trained long enough usually don’t need to be bonded to their lord’s knight.
Non-piloting ranks :
Nobles :
Lord / Lady : higher ranking nobles (also spouse of a pilot-rank noble)
Nobile : standard noble title.
Thane : title given to members of the Azorian lower houses who marry into the Sarrokkæn family. Upon which they will lose all their non-Sarrokkæn nobility titles (such as Earl, Viceroy, Prince, Duke, etc) and will never pass on their patronyms, regardless of their gender. They can also never become pilots. If a Thane is married to a pilot-rank noble, he or she will be referred to as Lord or Lady, retaining a certain amount of prestige. If he or she is married to a non-pilot, the Thane is then considered a second-class citizen within the household as they will be seen as inferiors to Venators. This being said, they will enjoy prestige outside of the Sarrokkæn household, with the rest of the Azorian society. Alternatively, they may join the ranks of the Milites Pedites and earn some prestige there. Their children however, bear the name Sarrokkæn and are considered as full members of the house. This system has been put in place so that genetically, the necessary diversity for healthy offspring is met without undermining the influence and power of the Sarrokkæn name. The families of nobles marrying into the Sarrokkæn house often are compensated materially and/or financially for the “loss” of one of their members. An external husband costs more than a wife, as the loss of patronymic transmission is regarded as a rather serious affair.
Non-noble :
Stewards : responsible for the management of a noble’s estate. Vindex : personal bodyguards, usually for the famlies of pilot-rank nobles. They are usually drawn from the Milites Gregarii. Sometimes they are trusted mercenaries and other types of hired-guns. Milites Gregarii ranks :
Made up of around 10.000 men and women at arms, filling various roles, including specialist units and combat and transport vehicles the Milites Gregarii of House Sarrokkæn is the third most potent force of the Azorian system, after the Azorian Skitarii and Azorian PDF. Its potency lies not in its numbers but by the rigor of their training (exceeding the standards of the PDF), the quality of their equipment and last but not least, the fact that they are deployed alongside the Imperial Knights of House Sarrokkæn.
Their duty is to protect (and be peacekeepers of) the Black Fortress and the vassal cities of the wastes around the obsidian keep.
Praefector Militiae (Commander of the Militia) Dux (Colonel-equivalent : ±1000 soldiers) Legatus (Captain-equivalent : ±100 soldiers) Servus (NCO-equivalent : between 5 & 25 soldiers depending on type of unit) Miles (Soldier)
