The interplay between the collaged images, which lie upon delicate painted areas, in turn embedded into the surface of old maps form complete compositions of continuous fascination. The skill and success of Dorman’s work is encased in the multi-layers and traces which effortlessly form both new topographic surfaces, and personal landscapes, illustrating a new, beguiling world.

Josh Dorman was born in Baltimore in 1966. He studied at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs before completing his MFA at Queen’s College, Flushing, New York. Recent solo exhibitions have included Ryan Lee, New York and Koplin Del Rio, Los Angeles, the Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles. His work is included in the collections of the Minneapolis Academy of Art Museum, The Butler Institute of American Art and The Naples Museum. He recently created seven short animations for a DVD collaboration entitled The Violin with composer Anna Clyne. His shows have been reviewed in Art Forum, ArtNews, The New York Times, Art in America and The Paris Review.

Guy Wildenstein was cleared of concealing paintings and other property from French tax authorities. The presiding judge acquitted the art dealer, despite stating that there had been a “clear attempt” at concealment, due to shortcomings in both the investigation and with French tax fraud legislation.

Steven Mnuchin‘s financial disclosure revealed that he owns a multimillion-dollar stake in a Willem de Kooning painting. The U.S. Treasury Secretary nominee has an estimated net worth of $620 million.

A proposal to build a local branch of the Beijing-based National Palace Museum in Hong Kong has been met with opposition, with many residents decrying the project as a means to curry favor with the mainland Chinese government.

Artist Zachary Cole Fernandez (aka “Jesus Hands”) was booked on a misdemeanor charge after he voluntarily surrendered himself to the LAPD. Fernandez told VICE that he and his ex-wife/partner, Sarah Fern, were responsible for the “Hollyweed” sign prank on New Year’s Day.

Heritage Auctions filed a second lawsuit against Christie’s after claiming that the auction house poached three of its former employees.
