watched ‘the black phone’ last night and it was pretty good. i, so far, have not been a fan of joe hill, steven kings kid, (i hated that nos48tu or whatever that shit tv series was called, by joe hill, that was on amc. it was garbage) but in this movie, the supernatural stuff was pretty low key and not overly stupid, like it can get. the movie is an adaptation of joe hills story, so who knows if the credit goes to joe hill or the director, scott derrickson. im going with the director.
i wont say too much about plot, because i went into it not knowing much which i think is a good way to go into it. it wasnt like most dumb horror movies, and maybe you cant even call this a full horror movie, it felt more like a psychological thriller. the characters, and their development were really up front and center, and not the stupid monster scares like alot of horror. tho there was one scene i can think of which was kinda creepy.
if anything, the child abuse stuff was the most horrific part, but also the most moving. like they get very real about it, and its affecting. not just parental physical abuse, but these kids bullying and beating each other up. it was unflinching, and felt very real. as were the performances by the two main child actors. they were really good. the main boy did a very good job but his character was shy at first so he performance was a little small compared to the sister in the movie. she was really the stand out for me. her performance in the scene where the father was beating her cause shes showing supernatural signs just like the mother was really good. it felt real, and her reactions were genuine. great little actors!
ive always liked ethan hawke, and its good to see him in a bunch of decent movies lately. like this and the northman. for a while there he was the before sunrise/sunset guy. and before that he was the hot slacker guy in reality bites. and before that as a kid in explorers, which i prob watched a dozens of times as a kid. hes had a pretty good career and glad to see hes keeping it going.
anyway, my attention was caught the whole way through, i didnt pick up my phone to scroll not even once lol

ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴀꜱᴛ ᴏꜰ ᴍʏ ᴋɪɴᴅ (Spinel x Gem!Reader ~ Chap 2: The Pink Gem ~
Tumblr media
Previously:
"How's the future look, Garnet? Do we all stay just like this forever?" Steven comments. I internally cringe at how badly he wants this to be happy. I wish I was the same way. Not everything ends happy though. I learned that the hard way. "Yeah. How's it looking? Do we all stay in this hill? forever?" I joke, trying to be funny and cheer myself up.
.
.
.
"No!"
Now:
~Your P.O.V~
We all looked up to see a injector-like ship (??) head down to the ground. 'Great....' I thought sarcastically . "HEY! Are you Steven Universe?!" A voice called, snapping me back into reality. I look up too see a black silhouette, ''Um yeah?'' Steven said nervously."Perfect~'' said the figure than made her pinky into a horn (I'm going to assume it was her pinky), then blowing into the horn. ''Move!'' Garnet shouted, we ran abit away just in time before the injector hit the surface. ''Hey! nice parking job genius!" Amethyst Shouted. The figure jumped down lower on the injector, growling.
"Well, well, well, well, well, Lemme get a look at the menagerie! You must be Amethyst, You must be Garnet, and Pink Diamond's Pearl, well she took you with her isn't that just..SWELL?!'' said the upset gem. 'Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning' I thought sarcastically."Then the gem noticed me and lifted me up from the ground. ''Aw~ it's seems this gem is a cute Moonstone." said the gem making me blush, but she didn't seem to noticed, but than she put me down on the hill carefully as if i could shatter at any moment. 'She oddly careful when it comes to me...'' I thought confused. "It cant be..." Said Pearl in disbelief as if she knows her  ''Oh but it can be and it is,I got a new style and a few new toys that are going to put a end to your happily ever after ONCE IN FOR ALL!" Said the angry gem.
"Whoa Whoa! this gotta have to be a misunderstanding in case you haven't heard I've established peace across the-''' Steven said, but was stopped mid-sentence. ''Yeah, I HEARD! I had your little message to the universe, ON LOOP!'' Said the gem who then kicked Steven in face, making the gems and me summon our weapons. ''I just loooove that part where Pink Diamond spends the rest of her days on this NOWHERE planet, with bunch of NOBODIES!"
The gem jumps down from the injector getting into Steven's face while he seemed alarmed.
♫ That's right I heard the story over and over again ♫
♫ Gee, it's swell to finally meet her other friends ♫
Garnet tried punching her but the gem dodges each punch
♫That's right I heard the story, don't really like how it ends♫
The gem goes over to Pearl and flicks her nose, flips Amethyst's hair over her face, and boops my nose
♫Gee, it's swell to finally meet her other friends♫
♫What did she say about me? What did she say?♫
She then grabs Pearl by the legs and dangles her as if she was a rag doll
♫What did you do without me? What did you do?♫
Then the gem starts kicking Amethyst back and fourth, and starts twirling me around her before pushing me to the ground.
♫Did you play games without me? What did you play?♫
She then grabs Garnet and starts waving her arms flipping Garnet back and forth (I described that the best i could-)
♫Did you think all this time that I wouldn't find out about you?♫
The gem flattens herself and slithers on ground then jump in front of Steven.
♫That's right I heard the story over and over again♫
She grabs all of us and bashes us together, than moving on top of the lighthouse.
♫Gee, it's swell to finally meet her other friends~♫
"She's running circles around us!" said Garnet.
"I'm rusty...Give me a break!'' said Amethyst.
"Give it a rest will you!'' I shouted at the pink gem.
"It really is her, but she can't be serious!'' Said Pearl.
"You know her Pearl? Can you tell us who she is?'' Said Steven who was questioning Pearl.
You looked at the pink gem who looked like she's getting even more angry 'Oh come on...' I thought to my self.
♫Who am I ?! Who am I ?! What are you even saying?!♫
She leaned to the edge of the roof of the lighthouse
♫I'm the loser of the game you didn't know you were playing♫
♫Let's play another game, this time I get to win♫
She pulled a object out of her gem
♫Lives on the line♫
The gem seemed to activate and turn into a weapon. My eyes widen, knowing it's a Rejuvenator
♫Winner takes all♫
She starts spinning the scythe
♫Ready or not let's begin♫
The gem jump from the lighthouse, in front of us
♫Oh, that's right I heard the story over and over again♫
She swings her Rejuvenator at us, but we all miss
♫Gee, it's swell to finally beat her other friends♫
She pushed me away from the others, and kicks in Steven in the face towards me.
♫Oh, that's right I heard the story, don't really like how it ends♫
Then she wraps her legs around a leg of the injector and the lighthouse.
♫Gee, it's swell to finally beat her...♫
The Gems run after her, Me and Steven try stopping them.
♫Other...♫
The Pink gem starts unwrapping her legs and heads for the gems, swinging her Scythe
♫Other...♫ ♫Other friends~♫
She poofs Garnet ,Amethyst ,and Pearl
'She....rejuvenated the gems...' I though in shock. ''THAT'S ENOUGH!'' Steven summons his shield, while i summon my G/W  , '' Aww, what's the matter Steven? Miss your little friends already? Don't worry, you're right behind them!'' She shouted at Steven, then sliced though him. I gasped, but he didn't poof 'It might be because he's hybrid not a full gem'  ''Ha, that was nothing!'' Steven said. The gem chuckled, ''Then I guess you don't mind if i do it again!" The gem slices though Steven multiple times, but stops when Steven grips the Scythe. ''Cut it out!" Steven shouted at the pink gem. "You don't poof, do you....? Figured much. Just wait! Your human half won't stand a chance against my Injector...not after what  I did to your gem~" Said the pink gem.
''But how can the weapon effect him when he's half gem?'' I asked the gem. ''Oh you'll see Dollface~'' said the gem who started giggling ."What are talking about?! Steven grumbled. "You weren't always a powerful hero were you?" Said the gem who started laughing like a insane person..or gem.  Steven had enough and pulled the Scythe from the gem, and Slashed her with it. Then she poofs reliving a heart-shaped gem.
''We better bubble you before anything else happens'' Steven muttered. Steven tried to bubble the gem, but the bubble popped. 'what the- '' i thought in shock. ''What?!'' said the hybrid who was very confused. He tried bubbling it again but failed. "Where is my bubble?" Steven taps the gem, but nothing.  "Come on..." Steven keeps trying to bubble the gem. ''Steven I think you should stop...'' I told the hybrid. "What's going on?" Steven lifted his shirt to see his gem flickering. Steven sighed than got up, picked up the all gems and headed his house to call his father.
.
.
.
"This is going to be a long day" i muttered

Hi, I was just wondering if you could make a post about what determines musical taste?? Thanks xx
this is a very interesting question,
let's talk about it!
How to determine music taste with Astrology 🎶
to determine music taste through your birth chart, I would mostly look at your moon and venus sign. the moon rules over emotions and feelings, and we usually listen to music we feel emotionally connected with. venus, on the other hand, is what appeals to us, it's our aesthetic, it's what we like, therefore it also plays a huge role in our music taste.
♈️ ARIES MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 1ST HOUSE ♈️
aries people tend to like very bold and up-front music. you may be into upbeat tempo music, pop, rap, hip-hop, rock music... anything rebellious that can boost your confidence. musicians with aries venus/moon: lady gaga, rihanna, shakira, mariah carey, bob marley, tyler the creator, chris martin, travis scott...
♉️ TAURUS MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 2ND HOUSE ♉️
taurus placements, on the other hand, are way more placid than aries. since this sign is ruled by the throat and the voice, people with taurus moon or venus tend to like songs that are heavy in vocals, they appreciate good singing and ballads that can showcase a singer's skills. they probably also listen to jazz, blues, r&b... they definitely enjoy slow, sensual songs, but they don't mind listening to mainstream pop songs either. musicians with taurus moon/venus: christina aguilera, chris brown, jim morrison, ariana grande, melanie martinez, pharell williams, lana del rey, paul mccartney, iggy azalea...
♊️ GEMINI MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 3RD HOUSE ♊️
gemini don't really stick to one music genre, they listen to anything they like! they easily go from playing indie music to listening to the latest commercial song on the radio. they're not picky, they appreciate anything as long as it resonates with them from the lyrics to the rythm. yet, they could prefer upbeat songs, such as dance / electronic music and pop songs.
♋️ CANCER MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 4TH HOUSE ♋️
this is probably one of the zodiac signs to appreciate ballads more, as cancer is ruled by the moon, which represents emotions and feelings in astrology. these cancer placements appreciate songs heavy in emotions and melody, they enjoy slow songs that talk to them, that relate to their own story. they need to be able to relate to a song to call it their favourite. I also see cancers enjoying r&b music, which probably puts them in a better mood than ballads, as well as upbeat genres such as funk, pop, or even country and soul. definitely a taylor swift kind of vibe. last but not least, they could also treasure songs that are somehow linked to their memories, maybe to their childhood. these songs will become extremely meaningful for cancers, and they'll never get bored of them.
♌️ LEO MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 5TH HOUSE ♌️
leos are extremely passionate and energetic, and therefore they enjoy music that is similar to them. they need their music to boost their ego, their self-esteem, they need it to feel better about themselves. pop, upbeat and sexy songs are definitely a must in their playlist, such as britney spears, rihanna, beyonce, etc. some of them may even appreciate hard or soft rock. leos also tend to follow trends, they could get into the popular music on tiktok for example but get tired of it after a couple of months. they also probably enjoy music from musicals, anything that is theatrical and fun.
♍️ VIRGO MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 6TH HOUSE ♍️
I feel like virgos pay particularly attention to the music they listen to. they are picky, they'll most likely end up listening to indie, r&b, jazz... anything that isn't too commercial. virgo placements are also careful to the lyrics of the song they're listening to, as they are ruled by mercury just like gemini. they need their music to communicate with them. of course that doesn't mean that they don't like commericial music, they just probably prefer less known songs. they could actually jam easily to the latest songs popular on tiktok.
♎️ LIBRA MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 7TH HOUSE ♎️
libra is the zodiac sign of beauty, therefore people with these placements will take in consieration the aesthetic of a song. for instance, they may like a song for the melody, especially if it's particularly articulate or elegant, and also for the lyrics. in fact, libra and virgo are the poets of the zodiac, they need to be moved by the lyrics of a song to enjoy it. libra is also the sign of love, therefore romantic songs are a must have in their playlist. they may also enjoy classics, such as edith piaf's la vie en rose. they have a similar music taste to virgos, with the difference that libras are less picky, and they can easily enjoy more commercial and popular songs as well, they usually have the tendency to follow trends even if unconsciously.
♏️ SCORPIO MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 8TH HOUSE ♏️
scorpio rules over sex in astrology, therefore they definitely love listening to slow and sensual songs. basically, sex music. anything darker that makes them feel more confident. the first artist that comes to my mind for this sign is obviously the weeknd, but anything that is r&b and with a soul vibe, such as sza, will work for them. scorpios also love rap, especially if the lyrics are particularly strong and empowering, for example most scorpios love doja cat. scorpios are indeed very sexual, but that doesn't mean that they can't be romantic. in fact, their playlists are probably full of ballads with meaningful lyrics to them. even if they don't listen to them often, they still hold a special place in their heart, as scorpios have the ability to easily dive into the lyrics, becoming one with the song.
♐️ SAGITTARIUS MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 9TH HOUSE ♐️
sagittarius placements, just like their sister sign gemini, love experimenting, they don't stick to solely one music genre. first of all, sagittarius is a fire sign, therefore they love upbeat music that puts them in a good mood. they love dance music, as well as rap. even though these placements are extremely philosophical, they're not as picky as virgos and libras when it comes to lyrics. of course they enjoy a well-written song, but what matters the most to them is that it's fun to listen to. and of course sagittarius is ruled by jupiter, which represents foreign cultures and languages in astrology. these placements are therefore the most likely to enjoy kpop, jpop, cpop... they don't have prejudices, they can literally listen to anything, even music considered bad or weird.
♑️ CAPRICORN MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 10TH HOUSE ♑️
capricorns definitely enjoy more serious melodies in their music, they don't really listen to bubbly pop songs. instead, they prefer rap, hip-hop, r&b, jazz, soul... anything that is more mature will work for them. they may also be into old music, maybe music from their parents' years. they don't mind listening to slow, sensual songs like taurus and scorpio either. examples of singers that capricorns could listen to are amy winehouse, stevie nicks, frank ocean, miley cyrus, azealia banks, the weeknd, björk, alicia keys, frank sinatra, megan thee stallion...
♒️ AQUARIUS MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 11TH HOUSE ♒️
aquarius is ruled by uranus, the planet of electricity. therefore these placements definitely enjoy music heavy in rhythm, such as dance music, metal, punk, rock, edm, rap, etc. just like geminis they don't stick to one music genre, they can listen to anything, even unconventional music, such as indie. for example, aquarius placements usually go from loving harry styles, taylor swift, bts, etc. to listening to maneskin, maroon 5, britney spears, eminem... they may also be into vintage music, especially into 70s/80s music, and maybe also into futuristic beats.
♓️ PISCES MOON/VENUS, MOON/VENUS IN THE 12TH HOUSE ♓️
pisces are the dreamers of the zodiac, therefore they have a knack for dreamy melodies. I don't really know how to describe this with words, but they almost love lullabies, anything that sounds very soft and calming. a song that comes to my mind as an example is slow dancing in the dark by joji. they love magical music. pisces also love lo-fi and indie as well. one thing I've noticed about these placements is that they prefer having pictures connected to their music, therefore they may prefer songs with a choreography they can remember, such as kpop, or in general music they associate to their memories. last but not least, pisces is a mutable sign, therefore they can listen to anything, they're not picky with music.
and this is the end! let me know if it resonated with you in the comments below. if you're interested, follow me for more! xx

In the Land of Gods and Monsters: Intro
A/N: I’ve always had a morbid curiosity with the mob(any kind of organized crime, really) and this story has been floating around my head for so long. I love Biker!Bucky, but I feel like it’s a very popular AU right now, so I thought what about Mobster!Bucky? Huh. Fuck yes. I even thought about writing this back in the 30’s-40’s but I’m a sucker for modern day AU’s. This is just the intro, the story will be taking you through Bucky/Reader’s meeting, falling in love, and ultimately demise. This one’s going to be tragic ya’ll.
Word Count: 2k+
Warnings: As with all of my stories, there’s a permanent warning of Cursing. I have a mouth like a sailor, and I express myself through the word Fuck. Mentions of murder and various crime. Mentions of trauma. This chapter is pretty vanilla, since it is just an intro- but this will be a very brutal story. I’ll always give you guys a heads up for what’s coming though.
Summary: You knew what you were getting yourself into when you met Bucky Barnes. He was a known wise guy. A feared mobster. Everyone in the neighborhood knew his name. Funny, in retrospect, you think that might have been why you couldn’t help but be drawn in like a moth to a flame. This first and foremost, is a love story. Blood stained and littered with bullet holes, but the story of how you fell in love with the man none the less. Mobster!BuckyxPlus Size Reader
-Present Day-
As you sit in the police station, you feel numb. Your mind has cooled over, gone ice cold; slow and dragging due to the trauma it had just been put through. You’re not able to process your surroundings. Not really… there, in that moment. You cant hear the constant clicking of computer keys from the cop who sits at the desk, the one you know is keeping an eye on you, or the bustling of people coming in and out around you, on just the other side of the door. Your eyes are glued to the clock that’s mounted on the wall, to the dials that seem to move so slowly now. How had they moved so fast, just hours ago- and now they drug on like molasses.
You couldn’t catch up- your body did the motions, you were here. In an interrogation room, but your mind stuck. Replaying the harsh sharp sounds of gunshots, and the cries of children and your husbands silver blue eyes, frantic as they looked at you.
“It’s gonna’ be okay” He promised, just as he always had. No matter what, you and me, we’re gonna be okay. And you’d always believed him, willingly naïve. Clung to those words desperately, blindly.
He’d lied.
You don’t think he’d meant to, but he had.
You close your eyes, forcing a deep breath into your lungs, hoping it will unthaw your thoughts. Because you had to be strong right now, you couldn’t- you didn’t have the time to be like this. Weak like this.
Where are they? Your brain urges at you, yells. You’d asked that good for nothing secretary over and over, but he’d just looked up and replied with a sack of bullshit. That he didn’t know anything.
“Above your paygrade?” You’d hissed pure venom at him and he’d glowered at you and told you you’d have to wait for the detective. That was close to an hour ago, so when the door finally does open, heavy and whining your eyes snap open and you perk up in the hard, uncomfortable chair. Two people enter the room; the detectives you deduce. A middle aged woman, pretty. Her hair pulled back into a severe ponytail, dressed in a pantsuit that made her look like a force to be reckoned with and a older black man, his salt and pepper beard neatly trimmed and one of his dark eyes covered by a fearsome looking eyepatch…
You’d heard about him before. Him and his witch hunts…
“Scary motherfucker. Got one eye…”
“Mrs. Barnes, I’m Detective Nick Fury and this is Agent Hill” He introduces them both as they approach, before sitting at the table, in the vacant chairs across from you. Your heart is beating in your throat, scared as all hell, but no one would know that by the sight of you. Your jaw is set and your eyes are blazing.
“Where are my kids?” Are the first words that come out of your mouth, the only question that matters right now.
“They’re in the care of child protective services at the moment, but we can get more into that later” Your nostrils flare as he goes on, just at the thought. Oh, you bet they were so scared. Your poor babies, the innocents in all of this.
You feel an ugly bubble of self hatred gurgle in your chest.
Your fault. Bucky’s fault.
“I’m not talking to fucking anybody until I know they’re safe” You snap “Are they in this building? Where are they?”
“That’s information we cant give to you right now-” Agent Hill starts and you cut her off instantly.
“What do you mean information you cant give to me? I’m their mother!”
“Their mother? Yes. Their legal guardian…well, that’s in your hands now, Mrs. Barnes” Fury is calm as he speaks. Calm and cutting and threating. “As of right now, you are an accessory to a slew of illegal activity that ranges over the last decade. Would you like me to list the charges off for you?”
You bite the inside of your bottom lip and keep a hard gaze. Breathe. You’ve been eye to eye with motherfuckers far more fearsome then him…but none of them had ever threatened to take your kids. That’s new. That ignites something in you that feels worse then anything you ever could have imagined.
When you don’t respond, he begins again. Listing, ticking off the crimes he reads off of the tablet in front of him.
“Robbery, multiple counts of Assault. Disorderly conduct, disruption of the peace. Distribution and trafficking of illegal arms and drugs. Possession of illegal arms and drugs. Those in themselves could get you looking at, what” Fury looks to Maria idly “A decade? Twenty years?” She nods at Fury who looks back to you, with his one eyebrow crooked “And that’s not including the murders of Congressman Alexander Peirce, John “Shmiddity” Schmidt, Brock Rumlow- well, you get the just. I’d be sitting here all day if I was to list off all the men your husband and his pals have killed, wouldn’t I?“
You knew better then to say anything else.
This wasn’t your first rodeo, your first back and forth with the law. No, you’d been through this shit before and the only thing you had to say to them was-
"I want my lawyer. I’m not saying another word until she gets here”
Hill shots Fury a look, but his eyes don’t leave yours. He’d known that was what you were going to say. He knew women like you, wives. Girlfriends. Strong as nails females who would follow their husbands through the gates of hell. In his opinion, you were just as bad as your husband, but he forces a half smile at you anyway. Trying to lure you with a false sense of sympathy.
It’s acidic and you see right through it. God you fucking hate cops. You’d always loathed interrogations.
“Why should you take the fall for them? You’re looking at twenty five to life if we can tie you or your husband to any one of these murders” He sighs, his hands folding on the table as he leans back onto the chair “And trust me, it’s not going to be very hard. You know, I’ve been keeping tabs on your husband for the last few years?” That’s when he pulls something up on the tablet, before spinning it in your direction and sliding it to you so you could see the screen.
What catches your eye first are Bucky’s multiple mugshots. You realize he’s showing you Bucky’s file.
“James Buchannan Barnes; street kid, Brooklyn boy. Had a string of misdemeanors on his name before he was even seventeen. Went to Juvie for the first time when he was fifteen. Joined the army right after high school, everyone thought he was going straight- until the accident” Fury clucks his tongue and makes an exaggerated frown that angers you. “Came back with a vengeance, huh? Bloodthirsty”
You grit your teeth to an almost painful point. He didn’t know shit. Bucky was never bloodthirsty, ever. He just did what he had to do…
“Linked back up with his childhood friend Steven Rogers- and the Stark mob” Fury is assessing you as he speaks, his trained eye prying, looking for any crack in your resolve. “One of the most infamous mafia branches in New York. But you know that already, don’t you?”
You don’t do anything but cross your arms over your chest. You don’t speak, you barley breathe.
“I can see you’re not going to be of any help at the moment- which is understandable, considering what you just went through. Call your lawyer- when she get’s here, and you two get all your stories straight, I’ll be back” Fury tells you simply, bluntly as he stands “And trust me when I tell you this Y/N, you’re going to want my help. Your husband is in some deep shit, and you’re not any better off for it”
“And why would I trust you?” You ask, a bit of bitter humor lacing your tone. You didn’t know who you could trust right now, but the feds? Yeah, they were on the bottom of that list.
Fury leans in close, and it takes all of you- all the strength you could muster not to cower back.
“Because right now, I’m the only one who doesn’t want you dead”
And with that- he leaves the room, agent Hill trailing behind him. He tells the secretary to let you make your phone call, and then the door is closed again, behind him.
You want to scream, and cry and flail. You want your children, and your husband. God, you want Bucky right now. You ache to have his steady arms around you-
“Its gonna’ be okay”
His voice hums in your head, and you realize that the only way that statement is going to ring true is if you suck it up. You cant fall apart right now. So with a deep breath, you unclench your hands. You hadn’t even realized that you’d balled them into fists during the duration of your time with Fury. Your manicuredly sharp nails had dug into the meaty, soft flesh of your palm that they left little crescent moon indents. A couple were beading with crimson.
You stand on shaky legs, and go to the phone.
How did it come to this?
Your mind laughs bitterly at you. Dumb bitch. You dumb bitch, you’d always known it would come to this.
And so you dial the number of your lawyer, not allowing yourself even a drop of self pity.
These violent delights have violent ends.

Alabama election: Democrats triumph over Roy Moore in major blow to Trump
Doug Jones becomes first Democrat to win any statewide office in Alabama in a decade after Moores campaign for Senate marred by sexual assault claims
The Democrat Doug Jones has beaten his Donald Trump-backed Republican rival Roy Moore in the diehard Republican state of Alabama, setting off a political earthquake likely to shake Washington.
His victory in a special election for a US Senate seat by a margin of 49.9 to 48.4 with 100% of precincts reporting is a major personal blow to the president and his efforts to pass tax reform on Capitol Hill.
Jones was able to become the first Democrat in a decade to win any statewide office in Alabama by beating Moore, who had faced multiple allegations of sexual assault during a campaign which exposed Republican party faultlines.
Profile
Who is Doug Jones?
Show Hide
Early life
The 63-year-old grew up in the working-class city of Fairfield, just west of Birmingham, an area once dominated by the steel industry. His father was a steelworker and he spent time working in a mill when not in school
Democratic roots and the KKK
Jones got his start in government as an aide to the last Democrat to serve a full term in the Senate from Alabama, the late Howell Heflin.
Years before running for the Senate himself, Jones became known for prosecuting two KKK members for the bombing of Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist church in 1963 which killed four black girls.
After his appointment as US attorney in Birmingham in 1997, Jones led a team of federal and state attorneys during trials that resulted in the convictions of Thomas Blanton Jr in 2001 and Bobby Frank Cherry in 2002.

Moore, who late on Tuesday was refusing to concede the race, had been favored in the deep red state until two women came forward to claim that Moore assaulted them when they were teenagers; a number of other women said the Alabama Republican had romantically pursued them when they were underage. Moore has denied all the allegations.

‘It’s not over’: Roy Moore refuses to concede in Alabama Senate race video
Alabama has long faced a profound racial divide, which was reflected in the results. According to an exit poll, Jones won 95% of the African-American vote but only 27% of the white vote in the Yellowhammer State. However, widespread African-American turnout on Joness behalf overcame Moores margins in rural, predominantly white parts of Alabama.
Jones also made significant inroads among college-educated whites. He won well-educated Madison county by a margin of 57-40. A center of the aerospace industry, the county voted for Trump by a margin of 55-38 in 2016.
Alabama voting demographics
More in common than what would divide us
Jones emerged to a euphoric reception just before 10pm local time. Folks, I gotta tell you, I think that I have been waiting all my life and now I just dont know what the hell to say, he said, beginning a 10-minute speech. I have always believed that the people of Alabama had more in common than what would divide us.
The election had never been either about him or Moore, he insisted. This entire race has been about dignity and respect. This campaign has been about the rule of law. This campaign has been about common courtesy and decency and making sure everyone in this state, regardless of what zip code you live in, is going to get a fair shake.
His speech was met with cheers and applause and chants of USA! USA!

The Democratic victory will reduce the Republican majority in the Senate to 51-49 once Jones takes his seat on Capitol Hill. This significantly reduces the margin for error as Republicans attempt to push through a major corporate tax cut.
They already have one defector in senator Bob Corker, and Joness election means a single additional Republican breaking ranks would sink the legislation.
Moores defeat also marks a major personal blow to Trump, who endorsed the Alabama Republican and held a rally on his behalf just over the state line in Pensacola, Florida. Although most national Republicans rushed to distance themselves from Moore in the aftermath of the allegations, Trump reaffirmed his support through tweets and public statements.

Born
Roy Stewart Moore, 11 February 1947, in Gadsden, Alabama, the oldest of five children of a construction worker and housewife.
Best of times
He had a large slab of Vermont granite inscribed with quotes from the Declaration of Independence, the national anthem and the founding fathers installed in the Alabama supreme court. It was topped off with tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments.
Worst of Times
In Vietnam, Moore insisted his troops salute him on the battlefield. He was named Captain America and later recalled sleeping on sandbags to avoid a grenade tossed under his cot in retribution.
What he says
I think it [America] was great at the time when families were united. Even though we had slavery, they cared for one another.
What others say
After refusing to acknowledge same-sex marriage legislation, Human Rights Campaign said: It is clear that Roy Moore not only believes he is above the law, he believes he is above judicial ethics…

Shortly after the results were called, Trump tweeted his congratulations to Jones:
Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)
Congratulations to Doug Jones on a hard fought victory. The write-in votes played a very big factor, but a win is a win. The people of Alabama are great, and the Republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time. It never ends!
December 13, 2017
Early on Wednesday morning, the president tried to claim he had always known Moore would lose, recalling his backing for opponent Luther Strange in the Republican primary that had preceded the special election. The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), Trump wrote, is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election. I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!
Moores defeat is a significant blow to the efforts by Steve Bannon and the populist Trump wing of the Republican party to undermine Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell.
Bannon and his allies are planning a series of primary challenges against establishment Republicans in 2018. Moores defeat significantly reduces their leverage as the joint efforts of Bannon and his rightwing news website, Breitbart, could not elect their preferred candidate in a state that Trump won in a landslide in 2016.
Steven Law, the head of the McConnell-allied Senate Leadership Fund, put the blame squarely on Bannon moments after the race was called. This is a brutal reminder that candidate quality matters regardless of where you are running, Law said. Not only did Steve Bannon cost us a critical Senate seat in one of the most Republican states in the country, but he also dragged the president of the United States into his fiasco.

Cory Gardner, the head of the National Republican Senate Committee, which flatly refused to back Moore, said: Tonights results are clear: the people of Alabama deemed Roy Moore unfit to serve in the US Senate.
While national Republicans accepted defeat, at Moores election night event, the candidate and his supporters still held out hope.
The evening is not over yet
Moores campaign chairman, Bill Armistead, took the stage to insist that the evening is not over yet and cited Alabamas provision for an automatic recount if result was within half of a percentage point. He also noted optimistically that there were still outstanding military ballots.
Moore then took the stage to say: When the vote is this close, its not over. He then bemoaned that he had been painted in an unfavorable and unfaithful light before urging attendees to go home and go to sleep.

Cal Zastrow, a friend of Moore who had come down from Michigan to volunteer for the campaign, tried to frame the results within a bigger picture. I was cheering for him and supporting him but Jesus is wonderful whether Roy Moore wins or loses, he said. Im not distressed. Im not discouraged. Jesus is wonderful.
At Jones election night party hundreds of supporters, many waving signs, erupted in cheers at a hotel ballroom in Birmingham when, on giant TV screens, CNN declared the race for the Democrat. There were hugs, smiles, tears and chants of We want Doug! The raw emotion was evident.
John Parker, 26, a bartender, said: I think its astounding and unprecedented in Alabama politics, and a response to what were seeing nationally. This is a direct response to President Trump. Roy Moore is unfit for any job, let alone [that of] a public servant. Alabama tonight voted for America.
He added: There is hope and joy. Tomorrows another day in Alabama.
Voter breakdown
Caitlin Barringer, 29, who works in healthcare, said: We finally have a person who will represent all of Alabama. I cant believe its taken this long for people to realise that Roy Moore is not what he says he is.
Looking at the media crews in the ballroom, she added: Im thankful everyone from all over the world is here and Alabama has shown we are so much more than closed-minded people.
Community activist Keith Williams, 43, who is African American, said: Miracles do happen. I have a message for America: dont count Alabama out. The progressive movement is going forward.

Early life
The 63-year-old grew up in the working-class city of Fairfield, just west of Birmingham, an area once dominated by the steel industry. His father was a steelworker and he spent time working in a mill when not in school
Democratic roots and the KKK
Jones got his start in government as an aide to the last Democrat to serve a full term in the Senate from Alabama, the late Howell Heflin.
Years before running for the Senate himself, Jones became known for prosecuting two KKK members for the bombing of Birmingham's 16th Street Baptist church in 1963 which killed four black girls.

'It's not over': Roy Moore refuses to concede in Alabama Senate race video
Alabama has long faced a profound racial divide, which was reflected in the results. According to an exit poll, Jones won 95% of the African-American vote but only 27% of the white vote in the Yellowhammer State. However, widespread African-American turnout on Joness behalf overcame Moores margins in rural, predominantly white parts of Alabama.
Jones also made significant inroads among college-educated whites. He won well-educated Madison county by a margin of 57-40. A center of the aerospace industry, the county voted for Trump by a margin of 55-38 in 2016.

After refusing to acknowledge same-sex marriage legislation, Human Rights Campaign said: It is clear that Roy Moore not only believes he is above the law, he believes he is above judicial ethics...
