Page 2. ----- Earle and Ronald Given Terms in Penitentiary --- Earle West, aged 19, and his brother, Ronald, aged 17, both formerly of Novar, in the Huntsville district, who recently pleaded guilty to ‘shooting with intent to maim,’ in connection with the wounding of Provincial Constable Cecil Taylor at Cannington on Oct. 12, were sentenced to ten years in Portsmouth Penitentiary when they appeared before Magistrate Colonel Charles F. Bick of Cannington last Thursday.

Earle West was also given five years, concurrent with the ten-year sentence, for each of a series of four burglaries to which he had pleaded guilty shortly after his arrest on the more serious count. Ronald West pleaded guilty to the same burglaries as his brother, and three additional ones. On each burglary count, he, also, was given five years’ imprisonment, concurrent with the longer sentence for the shooting.

In passing sentence, Magistrate Bick expressed regret at the necessity of incarcerating the two youths for so long a period, and stated he hoped they would, while in Portsmouth, avoid, as far as possible, associating with older and more hardened criminals.
