‘The Atlas of Tomorrow’ Work by Candy Chang in Philadelphia.

The Atlas of Tomorrow: A Device for Philosophical Reflection is an interactive installation that translates the I Ching into a public tool to help people examine their lives. Instead of traditional coin-tossing to determine your I Ching hexagram, this process involves rotating a pointer. A painted dial displays the sixty-four characters like a clock face. Passersby are invited to think of a question or situation in their life where they seek clarity and then turn the wheel at the sidewalk level to rotate the dial. I think I should stop thinking about what ideas to go with for the covid19 challenge and just stick to one :/

This time I think we got it? So let’s hope my brain stops producing so many different ideas and just focus on the one c:

I kinda think that the new idea brings people together and is something I really enjoy. Plus, if I were to make it actually happen, I have the connections and it can become a really cool feature for the locals.  It’s basically a wall similar to CandyChang’s, that is about what we were to do if we perhaps ruled the world. or what we’d want to do after it’s over, etc. And maybe feature more things than just a wall??

I still need to make it more “unique” but I think that the simpler I go the better I can execute it and reflect on. I’d say this is more of a “caveman” project compared to my peers but at least I’m enjoyin’ in

Visited @rubinmuseum today and finally saw @candychangland #publicart. It's been a dear aspiration for years now! She collaborated with @mrjamesreeves for #thefutureisfluid theme. Inspired by Tibetan prayer flags, they built this monument for the #anxious and #hopeful. Visitors can leave behind what makes them hopeful and/or anxious about the #future. Sometimes the answers were funny, sometimes they were upsetting. I wrote in my own. I plan on visiting it seasonally til it closes in november, with new answers to see how I've changed, and I would love some company. URBANIZED (2011)

An interesting documentary about urban design, and cities in general. Urbanized was the third part of a trilogy on design, which included Helvetica (2007) and Objectified (2009). This clip looks at a participatory public art project by Candy Chang in New Orleans, designed to stimulate local input into neighbourhood regeneration.
