Idea for the Doctor Who/ASoUE Crossover: The Doctor (let's say 11) did not end up in the Snicketverse by accident, someone brought him here. The crisis that's solved with Lemony (let's say Netflix version) is only the beginning and more aliens will come, thus forcing them to continue working together on solving this mystery/threat.
Also, Lemony's time with the Doctor allows him to find joy in life again. At some point during the story he has the most genuine laugh he's had in years.
i like the idea of making it a season long arc rather than just a one off. maybe we can go back to classic who tropes and someone is trying to summon a demon and it turns out to be aliens… maybe they have to take on a reconstituted Inhumane Society in a quiet moment of vfd shenanigans.
but yes, i think lemony would get a lot of joy from some doctor who style adventures and hanging around the doctor, and he’d go back to his old life somewhat refreshed and optimistic :)

Going back to the VFD Rick AU, I'd say Olaf would have to tread more carefully than in canon. Unlike Hector, Rick would be FAR more willing to throw down if he had to.
Also, I can't help but think of Violets somehow becoming a status symbol among Ricks on the Citadel. Whereas Mortys are sidekicks and shields, Violets are viewed as heirs apparent and expected to take over the Citadel when the Ricks eventually die out.
oh, so, i think for the first part, this rick is part of the snicketverse, so he is constrained by the narratives of that universe. so instead of being too anxious (like hector) to effectively help the baudelaires, he's too depressed and misanthropic and alienating to everyone around him to really take on olaf, especially when he has to overcome a whole mob of villagers. but also yes, he is definitely more of a threat to olaf than hector and might to something truly deranged and nasty to olaf if provoked. i think actually, there would be a throughline in this version of the story about the baudelaires being worried about rick trying to help them because he'll either do nothing of note or something they would consider disproportionate.
second part, oh my god i love this! i want violet to meet a multiverse of different hers now!! this is so good!!

In regards to the Rick and Morty crossover, if the Quagmires are getting involved, maybe what goes wrong with the ship/mobile home is that they're teleported over distance rather than dimensions? This gives the group the opportunity to meet up with Quigley and time to help solidify their found family dynamic.
Also, Violet in particular may remind Rick of who he used to be before VFD's schism and/or Rick Prime killing his family.
oh! rick seeing a younger, not yet jaded version of himself in violet is doing things to me!! they’re both inventors, and trying to grow up in an unkind world, it’s really good! (i am so tempted to catch up on rick and morty now, there’s just not enough hours in the day, especially hours i’m able to focus on watching things)
i like your idea with the quagmires, but now i’m thinking, what if they do dimension hop by accident leaving the baudelaires behind and have to go on 1st doctor i can’t actually control the tardis style adventures trying to get back to the baudelaires? that would be simultaneously really fun and distressing and kind of parallel the existing story quite nicely

WI: Rick Sanchez existed in the Snicketverse and became the Baudelaire's next guardian instead of the Village of Fowl Devotees?
oh no. oh no oh no!! i love this idea... but maybe the baudelaires go to the village of fowl devotees and rick is the handyman instead of hector! that would be the worst environment for rick to be in, but the idea of him building something like the self sustaining mobile home is perfect. and he has no patience for all the rules but he's too miserable and depressed to really do anything about it.
he's trying to get out of this dimension, cause he has some beef with all sides of the schism (i think this universe's rick was in vfd, and either he never had a morty or something vfd related and bad happened, either could be compelling) and he'd be so mean but secretly love the baudelaires... absolutely terrified by their earnestness! but they're so clever and he's so lonely!! anyway he repurposes his portal powered mobile home he was working on to escape this dimension to help them save the quagmires, and i feel like thematically, things never go well in either narrative, so of course it doesn't really work.
idk what exactly happens, but oh this is a really brilliant idea, someone who has slightly less interview with the vampire brain worms (possibly me much latter) could really go somewhere with this.
(i did see your other doctor who ask and i will answer it, i wanted to put some actual thought into it and then got sidetracked)

What other headcanons do you have for your ASoUE/Doctor Who crossover idea? What kinds of adventures do the Doctor and Lemony get up to as a Tardis crew?
how... how did you find this to ask me about it?!? (i mean that only in terms of like, how tumblr works, i could not in a million years find that post on purpose but i am extremely pleased that you did!)
so, i think the initial thought was that i don't think Lemony would go off in the TARDIS. Lemony is, in a way, a Doctor analogue, so he has to stay and protect is own universe. he has his own trauma, his own responsibilities, his own smaller, but possibly even more overwhelming obligation and desire to help. if you have that, the story has to be the Doctor showing up to help with a crisis (alien related, so Lemony's not qualified to deal with it on his own), and then them parting ways again. it would be the 10th doctor, but i wanted to dig into the 11th Doctor's thing about just being a mad man with a box, passing through, and how it's not really true but the Doctor desperately needs it to be. i think they're uniquely suited to have a really interesting conversation about responsibility with their experiences of being a time lord or VFD member in the background of some alien of the week doctor who plot transposed into the snicket verse. there is also 100% a scene where they have a fencing bout. is it just for fun to blow off some steam or are they having a real sword fight with life or death stakes? we'll probably never know.
i did find the fic snippet in my mess of WIPs so i am reposting it under the cut instead of trying to link back to the original post.
“What do we do now?”
“I’m very clever, I’ll think of something.” The Doctor intends to be reassuring. He’s said the same words in the same cadence countless times (and when the Doctor says countless it means something) and they have nearly always had the desired effect, but the man in the hat laughs; it is a mirthless, tired sound.
“I’m not sure that will help much, as I am very clever as well. Or so I am told. ‘Mr. Snicket is too clever for his own good. I expect he will continue to cause a great deal of trouble for our organization.’ The same yearly performance review since I was a neophyte.”
“What?” the Doctor says. His eyes widen further as he processes what the man had said. “What?”
“Beg your pardon?”
“Mr. Snicket? Is that what you said?”
“Yes.” The man frowns and then sighs. “I’m Lemony Snicket.”
“No. No, you can’t be Lemony Snicket.”
“You are not the first person to say that, but I assure you--as much as it pains me--I am.”
“No, you can’t be,” the Doctor says again. The man in the hat makes a face the Doctor finds familiar; it’s the same face he makes when he suspects a new companion is about to say ‘it’s bigger on the inside’, but the Doctor has to say it. “You can’t be Lemony Snicket because Lemony Snicket is not real, Daniel Handler made you up.”
The man in the hat looks shocked. He removes his hat so he can stare at the Doctor. “I’ve been accused of an astounding number of inaccurate things, but that takes the cake, a phrase which here means—”
Mr. Snicket stops abruptly, his brows knitting together unconsciously as the Doctor scans with his sonic. “If you would be so kind as to desist in whatever it is you’re doing. That noise is quite unpleasant.”
The Doctor ignores him. “No. No, no, no. I thought I fixed it after the last time! It’s too dangerous to be hoping about between dimensions without Gallifrey as an anchor point. I shouldn’t be here, wherever here is exactly.”
He gets in one good sweep of the room before Mr. Snicket grabs the sonic out of the Doctor’s hand. Very few humans have the reflexes to do such a thing.
“Give that back,” the Doctor says, his voice low and dangerous.
Mr. Snicket holds out the sonic, his other hand rubbing the bridge of his nose. “Just please stop making that noise.”
The Doctor snatches back the screwdriver and tucks it into the inner pocket of his suit jacket.
“I don’t see that it matters much,” Mr. Snicket continues, “where here is, or if it’s where you’re supposed to be. You are going to help.”
