In the previous post I introduced Greenpeace. These are some wins from June posted on their website.
- Hyundai Construction Equipment commits to help stopping illegal mining in the Amazon
Greenpeace East Asia released the Stop the Excavators report in April of this year, calling to heavy machinery manufacturers to take measures that prevent their equipment being used illegally, in ways that cause violations of human rights.
This exposé revealed that Hyundai Construction Equipment is apparently the favoured brand used in illegal mining in Indigenous Lands in the Amazon.
Hyundai has now announced a series of measures to protect the forest, and will act to prevent this in the future.
- ReconAfrica suspends oil drilling in Okavango Delta
The Canadian oil company ReconAfrica has stopped drilling in Namibia’s Okavango Delta, after it was faced with lawsuits and environmental concerns. For now, the drillings have only been suspended, but this is a step in the right direction, proving that people power can work wonders.
In 2019, ReconAfrica announced fracking in some of Africa's most sensitive (both in terms of water supplies and as livelihoods for the communities in the area) environmental areas. Namibian youth climate activists, indigenous, environmental and human rights groups have been working since then to prevent this from happening.
- ASEAN steps up commitment to end forced labour and human trafficking practices of migrant fishers
In May 2023, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) leaders officially adopted the first ASEAN Declaration on Migrant Fishers Protection in history. This declaration follows many years of active campaigning by human rights advocates and civil society organizations. The campaign aims to push stronger policies to protect Southeast Asian migrants working in fisheries and their rights.
This declaration emphasised that protecting and fulfilling the rights of migrant fishers is an entire migration cycle (recruitment, placement, and repatriation), and so is a shared responsibility among the ASEAN states.
- Local fishers and civil society join forces to reforest mangroves in Senegal
The local community in the traditional fishing town Joal in Senegal started reforesting mangroves in a show of what direct action is really about.
Joal is located near mangrove forests, that are essential breeding grounds for many fish species, and are vital therefore for the fishing communities in those areas. They also store more carbon than tropical forests, and are capable of curbing climate impacts such as floods.
- Dutch creative agencies choose to no longer work with fossil fuel companies
23+ creative agencies in The Netherlands put together a Fossil No Deal, stating that they will stop working with fossil companies and no longer encourage fossil passenger transport. They call it verdrag verantwoord verleiden, a treaty for responsible seduction.
- Thailand applies new PM2.5 ambient standard
In the beginning of June, the new PM2.5 ambient standard was officially applied in Thailand.
The new standard is now 15 μg/m3 for the annual standard and 37.5 μg/m3 for 24-hour standard, which is in keeping with the revised WHO air quality guidelines. This is a big step in the right direction to help reduce PM2.5 and solve air pollution in the country.
Greenpeace Thailand is still not at rest, though, and are continuing to fight to get the PM2.5 at its source, that is from the industries.
- In New Zealand, FSC abandons plans for ‘GE learning’ process
Greenpeace Aotearoa and other environmental organizations have been pressuring the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification scheme to abandon its plans for a ‘Genetic Engineering (GE) learning’ process.
The long-standing principle of not certifying GE trees came under threat after pressure from FSC certified plantation company Suzano from Brazil that has a subsidiary doing GE eucalyptus tree research trials (for glyphosate resistance).
- Citizens say yes to net zero emissions in Switzerland
Swiss citizens have voted in favour of a new law to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The new climate law, which was initiated seven years ago, passed a referendum with about 59% of the voters.
Net zero is now enshrined in the “federal law on climate protection, innovation and strengthening energy security“.
Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to see, news from your own countries, or if you'd like to add anything or share.
I'm also here to listen, my DMs and Asks are always open :)
Love you all, and see you next time, be safe!

The Manitoba government has hired a recruitment firm to bring 150 more physicians to the province as it works to address an ongoing shortage of doctors, Health Minister Audrey Gordon says.
The deal with Canadian Health Labs aims to attract 50 physicians each for Winnipeg, northern Manitoba and rural communities, Gordon said at a news conference on Monday. A request for proposals from recruiting agencies was issued in April.
Gordon said she's confident the target will be met, and there are penalties established if goals aren't achieved at certain stages of the contract.
The request for proposals issued earlier this year said the physicians recruited will remain in the community for a minimum of four years. [...]

Max needs to win in a inferior car? Mate what’s this bloke smoking! 😂 his first year in F1 was in a Torro Rosso and he out qualified both Redbull drivers, his first year at Redbull he won yes both Mercedes crashed out but he kept Kimi behind him, he managed to win in the Redbull car when it was 3rd in the grid yes it was third but you get my point.
Max has out performed his cars, people praise Seb and Lewis for their performances with the cars but forget that when Lewis joined McLaren they was one of the best (then they had Spygate) and Seb won his first championship in his first year at Redbull.
I honestly do not get people no matter who they are if you don’t like max that’s fine you do you boo but keeping slating him and diminishing his accomplishments, maybe they need to realise, Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton, Vettel all had cars that was better then the rest.
Niki Lauda called Max the talent of the century.
https://www.autoweek.com/racing/formula-1/a1846031/niki-lauda-calls-f1-driver-max-verstappen-talent-century/#
“Lauda was furious in Barcelona after the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg opened the door for Red Bull's new recruit Max Verstappen to record an historic win. "I have no answer except to take my cap off," the F1 legend, who still wears a red cap to cover his scars some 40 years after his 1976 Nurburgring crash, is quoted by the German news agency DPA. "What we are seeing is a talent of the century," Lauda added, referring to Verstappen. For once, Lauda and his compatriot Dr. Marko, the architect of Red Bull's often controversial young driver program completely agree.”
And this is what Niki had said about Lewis in 2008
https://www.crash.net/f1/news/170305/1/hamiltons-driving-will-end-in-someone-getting-killed#:~:text=Niki%20Lauda%20has%20hit%20out,the%202008%20world%20champion's%20defence.
“Former three-time F1 World Champion Niki Lauda has warned the FIA that if nothing is done to curb McLaren-Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton's on-track aggression, 'it will result in someone getting killed'
In the past two races, Hamilton has tangled with no fewer than four of his rivals, sending both Felipe Massa and Pastor Maldonado crashing out-of-contention in Monaco just over a fortnight ago, tipping Mark Webber into a first corner spin in Montreal on Sunday and then - most calamitously of all - colliding with his own team-mate Jenson Button as he aimed for a gap early on in the Canadian Grand Prix that was not really there.”
In that same article Sir Jackie Stewart and Sir Stirling Moss said this
“I think Niki was being a bit hard on Lewis, but Niki is a man who should be listened too," concurred fellow multiple title-winner Sir Jackie Stewart. "To finish first, you must finish and not be running into people all the time. He's having too many collisions with too many drivers, and he can't blame the stewards, because there is a different set at every race.
"I'm a great supporter of Lewis, but I think he's hiding under blinkers at the moment. You can't keep going for gaps that don't exist, and if he's blaming the car and the team, that's just unprofessional. No driver had the perfect car."
"He's going a bit too far in some cases," echoed British racing hero Sir Stirling Moss, who officially announced his retirement from racing at Le Mans last week. "He's a terrific driver, he's got great aggression and he's an exciting driver, which is important because it's a television sport now - but his handling of himself is not that good. His father is no longer his manager, which is a problem. If they could get together, it would be a good thing."
Yes a few legends and a few drivers more of less said the same about Max but Lewis himself and his fans and Mercedes fans can’t say anything about Max and the comments some drivers made about him when Legends said the same thing about Lewis
I’m sorry but all Champions had that aggressiveness that everyone slates max for like I’m sorry what was Michael Schumacher known for?
Don’t get me wrong lewis is a great driver but I’m sick of people dick riding him and hiding how he was in his early days
Honestly if you want to say that your a Fan of Lewis maybe watch his early seasons before slating on Max, watch Ayrton Senna, Watch Michael Schumacher they are all the same!!!!
I am so sorry for the rant but I needed to be said, some people won’t like what I said but people need to realise you can’t slate Max and forget about what your favourite driver has done!!!!
❤️ Red Anon - I thought I’d make it easier just incase I have a little rant again 😂
I love what you put on here and the way you defend Max, never stop!
I hope you had a great first few days at your new job x
It’s literally so funny because Max has always said that you need a great car to win a championship. A car that doesn’t have a engine that dies every second race which he did yet before 2021 he had 10 wins in a car that most of the time was third fastest and then sometimes 4th fastest and he created those wins. 2020 he was the only driver to put drive the Merc and without the reliability he v much could have finished in front of Bottas in that monster of a car. In 2016 for his first race he held kimi up on old as fuck tires to win and let’s certainly not forget Austria/Germany 2019 when he drove the wheels of that car.
You hit the nail on the head about the aggressiveness. Each champion has had to be ruthless that is what gets them the win. They have to go for the tiniest gap because that is literally what the likes of Max, Schumi and Senna are wired to do. Thye wont ever admit that a gap couldn’t be seen and that is what makes them the greatest. Max doesn’t need to prove anything anymore. He won his championship he won in that shitbox of some years and also stuck by his team. He could have packed it in with Red Bull in 2018/19 when the car wasn’t producing what he wanted but he didn’t. He stayed loyal to the idea and the concept that Christian and Adrian were building and now he’s where he should be.
Also thank you!!!! I will always defend Max because he gets so much shit being himself it’s disgusting. Work actually is going really well, they let me create a media plan which was so cool icl.

THE AGONIST Calls It Quits
Canadian metallers THE AGONIST have officially called it quits after a nearly two-decade run.
Earlier today (Wednesday, May 10),the band released the following statement via social media: "Dear friends, it's time to make a very difficult but necessary announcement. We have decided that THE AGONIST as a band, has come to an end. Much deliberation and care has been put into making this decision, and unfortunately, given the circumstances, this is the conclusion that makes the most sense for the band and us as individuals.
"There are many factors that led to this decision. It is a mix of personal, financial and industry related issues, but in the end the 5 of us are no longer able to agree on a way forward that would benefit THE AGONIST business as a whole, while respecting each member's personal lives and wishes.
"We want to express our deepest gratitude to the fans for coming out to the shows, buying our merch, and supporting us over the years. Nothing is more satisfying than connecting with our fellow human beings via the gift of music. It is the number one factor that has always driven us- to make you, the listener, feel something. In the end, we know that we've accomplished this together.
"Some members of the band will continue to work on music in various ways, others will focus on personal projects and family. We kindly ask you to respect their privacy on this particular matter and encourage you to follow them on their individual social media accounts to support their future endeavors.
"Vicky Psarakis [vocals] will be carrying on with her band, SICKSENSE. They have a new EP coming out this summer and she will be playing 2 live shows with them in Montreal, in June. You can also directly support her by following her on Patreon and Twitch.
"Simon McKay [drums] is currently looking to join a new band full-time, while offering session work for studio and live gigs. Also, keep an eye out for new music coming soon from his solo project.
"Chris Kells [bass] will be focusing on his career as a videographer. Since 2015, he has directed all of THE AGONIST's music videos, as well as many other established bands.
"Danny Marino [guitar] is currently writing music for 2 new projects.
"Pascal 'Paco' Jobin [guitar] will be releasing new music with his project LEADING THE BETRAYED.
"Our US-based merch store with Sound Escape Agency will remain open. We have also put together an EU-based store for our European fans. Inventory is final and there will be no restocks. Proceeds will go directly to the band to help us pay off our remaining debt.
"We will survive. At the end of the tunnel there's always a light."
THE AGONIST performed live for the first time in nearly two years in December 2021 at Théâtre Corona in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
THE AGONIST released an EP, "Days Before The World Wept", in October 2021 via Napalm Records. The effort was produced by Christian Donaldson, who has previously worked with BEYOND CREATION, CRYPTOPSY and DESPISED ICON.
Alissa White-Gluz, who co-founded THE AGONIST in 2004 (then known as TEMPEST),was announced as the new singer of ARCH ENEMY on March 17, 2014. That same day, THE AGONIST revealed that they had recruited Psarakis as Alissa's replacement, saying in a statement that they wished White-Gluz "all the best with ARCH ENEMY and her future endeavors." A day later, Alissa released her own statement in which she claimed that she "had every intention of (and had even started) writing and recording yet another killer album [with THE AGONIST] this year," but explained that her "former bandmates decided to choose a different path." She also said that "the unfortunate decision" to part ways "was made beyond [her] control" and added that she would "always be proud of the three albums [she and THE AGONIST] created since 2005."
Alissa had been largely quiet about the circumstances that led to her departure from the band, choosing instead to focus on the touring activities in support of ARCH ENEMY's 2014 album "War Eternal", which marked her recording debut with the latter group. But during an appearance on HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta's official podcast, "The Jasta Show", Alissa aired her side of THE AGONIST split for the first time, saying that she "never in a million fucking years" suspected that she would get kicked out of her own band. She added, "I don't agree with what they did. I don't have respect for what they did," and vowed to never mend fences with her former bandmates. "I'll never talk to them again — ever!" she said. "That was the worst betrayal I've ever felt in my life. They stole a lot from me. It was not right."
Marino later responded to Alissa's comments, claiming that "she was playing both sides to have her cake and eat it too" and accusing her of not "factoring in the other four lives in the band and their aspirations."

In June 2023, a group of Finland’s most notorious neo-Nazis and a few of their international friends ventured to a lakeside cabin resort set against picturesque woodlands some 120 kilometres north of Helsinki.
They called the gathering ‘White Boy Summer Fest’ after an internet meme co-opted by far-right extremists. Bellingcat first investigated the phenomenon in 2021. Run by a far-right cultural collective and combat sports group, the event was first held last year, and organisers have indicated plans to make White Boy Summer Fest (WBS) an annual affair.
Over two days, attendees watched far-right bands perform, participated in combat sports, and mingled with other hate group members in hot tubs. Observers warn that neo-Nazi networks — including international ones like the Hammerskins, whose members attended WBS — use events like these to network, radicalise each other, recruit new members and raise money.
Organisers have successfully kept the locations of the 2022 and 2023 WBS events hidden from the public — until now. Thanks to Bellingcat’s Global Authentication Project (GAP) and burgeoning Discord community, we geolocated both events to rural accommodations belonging to Evo Nature Ltd, a hospitality company in southern Finland. According to its website, Evo has properties in 15 locations between Helsinki and Tampere and received approximately 30,000 customers in 2019.
When asked about the booking, Evo owner Kaj Järvinen told Bellingcat he had no knowledge of the events held by WBS and emphasised that his properties receive a large number of bookings each year.
“I have no clue whatsoever about these type of events. We have around 20 large rental properties. We receive more than 5,000 offer requests and around 1,000 group bookings on a yearly basis, and we do not ‘screen’ our customers if there are no obvious reasons visible.”
There is no suggestion that Evo broke any laws in renting out the property. Neo-Nazi groups in Finland have previously rented for-hire venues without the owner’s knowledge: for example a concert earlier this year was organised by the Jyväskylä branch of far-right network Blood and Honor at a leftist social club near the centre of the city.
In-person venues are nevertheless crucial to the neo-Nazi scene and related subcultures: Europol, the European Union (EU) law enforcement agency, noted they “place high value on physical meetings and group activities” in a report earlier this year.
The 2023 edition of WBS kicked off the evening of Friday, June 16. As photos posted by organisers on social media make clear, the spectacle was anything but subtle. Four Finnish neo-Nazi bands performed sets on a stage in a log cabin while flanked by two swastika banners. Some band members sported Nazi patches and symbols on their clothes and instruments.
In a video taken inside the cabin and posted by organisers, a flag of the international neo-Nazi network Blood & Honour hangs on a wall by the stage. As Bellingcat discussed in our investigation of European Fight Night in Hungary, Blood and Honour is banned in several European countries, including Germany and Spain. They were also listed as a terrorist organisation by the Canadian government in 2019.
Meanwhile, members of the domestic neo-Nazi group Crew 38 Finland attended WBS, according to their Telegram channel.
According to a report earlier this year by Finland’s public broadcaster, police documents suggest five men arrested in 2021 over suspicion of planning terrorist attacks were significantly influenced by Crew 38 Finland, and met frequently with some of its members.
Crew 38 Finland are also an affiliate of the international Hammerskins network. Founded in the late 1980s in Dallas, Texas, the Hammerskins are described as “the most violent and best-organised neo-Nazi skinhead group in the United States,” by the US-based Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
Nicolas Potter, a researcher at the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, a German NGO which works to combat racism and far-right extremism, warned EU policymakers in an address to the Council of Europe earlier this year that “classic neo-Nazi networks from the Hammerskins to Blood & Honour continue to forge international alliances,” adding “far-right rock festivals and Mixed Martial Arts tournaments serve as spaces of radicalisation, recruitment and fundraising.”
The weekend of events was about more than just music; participants could sit in the sauna, get a tattoo and buy clothes from extremist brands (some of which feature in our 2022 investigation of far-right fashion).
They could also watch a series of combat sports fights put on by Veren Laki (‘Law of Blood’), one of the event’s co-organisers. According to Tommi Kotonen, an expert on far-right extremism in Finland, Veren Laki is linked to the Finnish branch of the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement (Finnish acronym PVL). The country’s highest court issued a temporary ban against the group in 2019 due to its spreading of hate speech and use of violence.
Veren Laki is linked to other similar groups internationally that focus on combat sports and training for physical confrontation. According to the organisation’s Telegram channel, a fighter from Veren Laki fought at the far-right combat sports event European Fight Night in Hungary in May 2023. At WBS 2023, photos show several fighters wearing equipment from Pride France, a brand run by French neo-Nazi Tomasz Szkatulski. Currently based in Sofia, Bulgaria, Szkatulski posted on his Telegram channel that he was banned from entering Germany for ten years in July 2023.
The fights outside were followed by another indoor concert. Four bands, including two from Italy, took to the now swastika-free stage to play. Green Arrows, an Italian band popular across Europe’s far-right extremist music scenes, headlined. Green Arrows has publicly declared their support for Italy’s neo-fascist CasaPound movement — the movement’s flag adorned the stage during their set.
But where exactly did all of this take place? Upon seeing photos and video of the event, one of Bellingcat’s volunteers who is based in Finland thought the location looked familiar and began to investigate.
Suspecting it was one of a series of rentable rural cottages in the southern Finnish Lakeland, he soon found a possible venue location on Google Maps.
Open source techniques confirmed his suspicion. He later realised he had been to the location as part of a routine work retreat. A comparison of photos and a video shared by WBS organisers with images of the property posted on Evo’s website confirmed the location of WBS 2023 — a log cabin in the Hämeenlinna region described as an “atmospheric event space” with a small stage and room for 100 people. The barn is part of a seven-acre rental complex with villa apartments, three hot tubs and a lakeside sauna. The site, which is advertised for corporate retreats and family holidays, is approximately a two-hour drive from Finland’s capital, Helsinki, and 90 minutes from Tampere, Finland’s second-largest urban area. Photos of the venue from the owner’s website showed a room whose wooden beams match those seen in photos of a musical performance during WBS 2023.
Furthermore, the pattern observed on a wooden beam as well as the gaps in the wood of the log cabin matches photos of the cabin on the accommodation website with those in a photo posted by WBS participants.
But what about the previous year’s “festivities” at WBS 2022?
One of the organisers’ Telegram channels outlined to attendees that the 2023 location wasn’t the same as in 2022, but “about a 15-minute drive from last year’s location.”
Searching for similar rentable rural venues in the vicinity of the 2023 event, Bellingcat found the location of the 2022 event — a small villa of red-sided cabins owned by the same hospitality company.
While WBS organisers have announced plans for a 2024 edition, it is unclear if a venue has been chosen. One thing is clear: the value of gatherings like these to the far-right organisations.
Not only do they provide groups a chance to share and promote their ideology, the Financial Action Task Force, the Paris-based global money-laundering watchdog, said in a 2021 report that “most of the funding for extreme right-wing groups appears to come from licit sources” including concert organising and merchandise sales.

Are You Looking for Recruitment Agencies in Canada to Find Top AI Talent for Your Business?
Artificial intelligence has heightened demand more than ever due to innovation and competition in business. AI overhaul will be found everywhere, from technology to healthcare, finance, and manufacturing. Whatever your company does—machine learning, data analytics, or AI automation—will need such talent to stay ahead of and rival competitors. For research in your company, if, for example, you are hiring agents for recruitment in the best AI brains, it is going to be a great benefit for you in Canada.
Why Canada is a Hub for AI Talent
Canada is now among the last few nations that are vying for the title of the world's top country in artificial intelligence by having more than 2,000 startups and some of the best research institutions in the world. Cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal are already quite advanced technologically, with an increasing number of workers essentially comprising AI engineers, data scientists, and machine learning professionals. In fact, over 80 companies are operating in AI within Toronto itself, with over 5,000 employees engaged in work on AI.
Indeed, the need for talent with AI skills has skyrocketed with this level of growth. Nonetheless, the search for suitable candidates for AI positions is long and winding. This is where recruitment agencies in Canada could make a difference.
Benefits of Partnering with Recruitment Agencies in Canada for AI Talent
Access to a Broader Talent Pool
They give you access to a larger talent pool due to their vast network. Recruitment agencies in Canada, with their much-improved performance, will temple-tap the talents of both local and international freelancing agents by opening doors as the AI sector spreads out. Every year, more than 10,000 AI professionals graduate from Canadian universities, and this is the market agencies are ever so well versed in tapping into when searching for the right candidates for your company. Whether for short-term projects or full-time roles, these agencies can quickly present you with the best candidates.
Expertise in the AI Sector
AI recruitment is very specialized. Recruitment agencies in Canada specializing in AI have performed in-depth research on varied skills in different areas of AI employment. Their professionalism enables them to conduct incredible screenings, ensuring that people brought in have ideal technical skills and expertise as well. The evolution of AI technology is rapid; therefore, professionals need skills, and agencies have experts to scout people who are informed about the most cutting-edge technologies and practices.
Time and Cost Savings
Hiring AI talent is a long process, involving weeks of technical and other interviews. Partnering with recruitment agencies in Canada significantly cuts the time involved in hiring. The agencies sift through hundreds of resumes, conduct interviews to screen candidates and perform technical evaluations. You are left with shortlisting the best candidates. Companies that engage the services of recruitment agencies reduce 30–40% of time and energy spent in their in-house recruitment processes, on average.
Cultural Fit and Retention
Retaining AI talent is thus rather important since attrition is often high in the industry as a result of stiff competition. Recruitment agencies in Canada go beyond technical skills; they also look for people who will fit into the culture of your organization. This is really important for longevity's sake. In fact, it is known that organizations that pay attention to culture fit have 25% more retention. Agencies ensure they recommend only candidates who fit with the values of your company, which translates to fewer turnovers and a more homogenous team environment.
Conclusion
In today's competitive marketplace, finding exceptional talent in artificial intelligence has bedeviled many companies. But by engaging recruitment firms in Canada, businesses can tap into an ever-increasing pool of professionals ready to propel AI advancement. Whether for a short-term project or long-term work, recruit agencies boost businesses with the required talent. With their extensive networks, specialized knowledge of the AI industry, and ability to simplify the hiring process, recruitment agencies in Canada provide invaluable support in building a high-performing AI team. Businesses that work with these agencies realize an up-to-50 percent acceleration on timelines for hiring and an even improved success rate in terms of finding just-right candidates. According to a recent survey, there are five strategies for newcomers to thrive in the Canadian job market.
Table of Contents:
Introduction
Seek Training and Mentorship
Base Your Job Search Around Skills, Not Job Titles
Translate International Experience into Canadian Equivalents
Highlight International Experience as an Asset
Look for Companies That Value Diversity
How Wave Visas and Wave Immigration Consultant Can Help
Conclusion
Introduction
Canada’s job market offers plenty of opportunities for newcomers, but successfully navigating it can be a challenge. A new report titled Talent to Win, compiled by Deloitte and the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC), sheds light on the underutilization of immigrant skills and the steps newcomers can take to thrive in Canadian workplaces. The findings of the report provide both insights for businesses and actionable advice for individuals looking to excel in their careers. Whether you are applying for jobs through Canada Immigration pathways or seeking ways to improve your career prospects, the tips in this blog can help you succeed.
Seek Training and Mentorship
Challenge:
A significant barrier that newcomers face when trying to thrive in the Canadian job market is the lack of proper on boarding, training, and mentoring. Newcomers, in particular, need clear and structured initiation into Canadian professional culture, which is often lacking in many workplaces.
Solution:
Newcomers should proactively seek mentorship or training programs, whether within a company or externally, that can familiarize them with Canadian workplace norms. Networking with professionals in the industry or approaching a settlement agency can provide valuable guidance. If you’re seeking support in settling into Canada and navigating the job market, consider reaching out to Wave Immigration Consultant, who can connect you to resources like mentorship programs and training.
Base Your Job Search Around Skills, Not Job Titles
Challenge:
The report highlights a common challenge for newcomers: a lack of understanding about transferable skills. Many immigrants apply for jobs that are exactly the same as what they held in their home countries, missing out on other valuable opportunities.
Solution:
To address this, newcomers should focus on highlighting transferable skills like leadership, problem-solving, and communication in their resumes and during interviews. Broaden your job search by applying to roles that might be slightly different from what you’ve done in the past but align with your core skills. This opens up more opportunities and helps you adapt more easily to the Canadian job market.
Translate International Experience into Canadian Equivalents
Challenge:
A common issue newcomers face is translating their international experience into a form that resonates with Canadian employers. Many employers may struggle to assess the prestige or relevance of qualifications from abroad.
Solution:
It’s important to explain your international experience in terms familiar to Canadian employers. For example, instead of just mentioning the name of an institution, provide context, such as referring to your previous employer as “the largest bank in Senegal” or highlighting the significance of your degree by stating “the oldest university in Malaysia.” This helps recruiters better understand your experience and qualifications.
Highlight International Experience as an Asset
Challenge:
Lack of Canadian work experience is often seen as a barrier for newcomers. However, international experience can be a powerful asset, especially for companies seeking to expand globally.
Solution:
Newcomers should highlight their international work experience and showcase how it can contribute to a company’s global expansion. Discuss the challenges faced and the solutions provided in previous international roles. This will help Canadian employers recognize the value of your global expertise. Remember that in today’s interconnected world, your international experience could give you an edge over other candidates.
Look for Companies That Value Diversity
Challenge:
While many Canadian companies understand the value of having diverse teams, it can still be challenging to find the right employer who actively supports the integration of newcomers.
Solution:
Look for companies that prioritize diversity and support the wellbeing of newcomers. Some organizations partner with settlement agencies to ensure that their employees have access to necessary resources like language training, childcare, or employment support for spouses. These companies are more likely to foster an environment where newcomers feel welcomed and supported.

Jas Mathur sues Travis Bott over Traders Domain Ponzi losses
Jas Mathur has sued Travis Bott and Richard Jason Bott over reported Traders Domain Ponzi losses.
Mathur is a Canadian national from India living in California.
Travis Bott is behind a series of fraudulent MLM investment schemes targeting consumers around the world. These include Ryze AI, Westmyn, Onyx Lifestyle, Digital Profit, Meta Bounty Hunters and Meta Lab Agency
Richard Jason Bott is believed to a relative of Travis Bott (right). Both Botts are Utah residents.
As per a lawsuit filed by Mathur’s Wyoming shell company EM1 Capital LLC in California last October;
Since around mid-December 2022, T. Bott had been promoting a SIngapore-based investment fund to mutual friends of Jas Mathur, president of EM1.
Bott explained that the funds would be trading in Traders-Domain platform, which is controlled/managed by Fredirick “Ted” Safranko, a close friend and business partner of T. Bott for the past several years.
This is a bit of an odd timeline, seeing as Traders Domain collapsed in or around October 2022.
So far US regulators have only gone after part of Traders Domain, the SAEG Ponzi side of the business (~$145 million).
Safranko, a Canadian national has gone into hiding. In September 2023 the CFTC secured a $3.8 million judgment against Safranko.
Leaked financial records reveal the full extent of Safranko’s Traders Domain related fraud exceeds $370 million.
According to Mathur, Travis Bott had been recruiting people into DWHTD Technology PTE LTD (aka “Drive Fund”), a Singapore shell company.
Recruitment was done through Alliance Management Services LLP, a Utah shell company Travis Bott allegedly owns.
Following an introduction by a mutual friend, on January 5, 2023, T. Bott presented Mathur with an opportunity to invest $1 million in a “proprietary trading venture” whose returns, as established by historical performance, would generate an 18% monthly return on the investment over the course of one (1) year.
T. Bott elaborated to Mathur that he owned a company called SAVVY Wallet which was licensed by Evolve Bank & Trust, N.A.
According to T. Bott, all members and users of SAVVT Wallet would receive a debit card which would facilitate withdrawal of funds.
To that end T. Bott presented Mathur with a document entitled Investment Management Agreement, which Mathur signed on behalf of his company, Plaintiff EM1, on January 7, 2023.
Savvy Wallet is owned by Frank DiCrisi (right) and Gregory “Tuffy” Baum. The payment processor was used to launder millions from The Traders Domain investors.
If Travis Bott had an ownership stake in Savvy Wallet, this is the first I’m hearing of it.
Pursuant to the terms of the IMA, EM1 agreed to invest $1 million in DWHTD and DWHTD agreed to pay a minimum of 18% every month on the total account balance of $1 million for thirteen (13) months.
FWHTD further agreed that at the end of the thirteen (13) month period, DWHTD would return 100% of EM1’s principal investment ($1 million).
The IMA further provides for termination upon non-performance of the agreement.
Specifically, non-performance is defined as monthly returns less than 18%.
Thus, in the event that DWHTD failed to make a monthly payment of 18% to EM1, EM1 had the right to terminate that agreement immediately and receive 100% of the principal funds back within thirty (30) days of termination.
DWHTD is represented by Lim Hang Guan Simon, a purported Singaporean citizen. A copy of the IMA between EM1 and DWHTD is attached to EM1’s Complaint as an exhibit:
After execution of the IMA, per T. Bott’s instructions, EM1 wired the principal investment of $1 million to AMS, a Utah company owned by T. Bott and R. Bott.
Per T. Bott, the 18% monthly interest payments from the $1 million investment would be disbursed monthly into Mathur’s SAVVY Wallet.
You can probably guess what happened next…
On February 3, 2023, Mathur contacted T. Bott, requesting that he be paid the return he was promised.
T. Bott replied that the funds only get disbursed after a full thirty (30) days, so a payment would be forthcoming in the middle of February 2023.
On February 16, 2023, T. Bott called Mathur and stated that the operators of the funds had an issue, this time attempting to distinguish his role at the fund as a mere investor, rather than an owner.
Despite his new claim that he was just an investor, T. Bott proceeded to advise Mathur that the account had taken around a 50% loss, and Mathur could either get back $650,000 today or wait until the end of March and receive the past-due 18% returns from January, February and March.
T. Bott elaborated that other mutual friends who invested through him all opted to wait until the end of March.
Mathur would later realize Bott had convinced his mutual friends that it was he who had opted to wait till the end of March “and that they should follow his lead”.
On March 14, 2023, Mathur met with T. Bott in Los Angeles, California to discuss his investment.
Prior to the meeting, Mathur performed an internet search of the Trading Platform, only discover that Ted Safranko was charged by the CFTC in a $144,043,883 fraud.
Upon informing Bott of his findings, Bott is alleged to have grown “irate and began insulting Mathur”.
The conversation deteriorated when T. Bott threatened Mathur is front of two mutual friends, stating that he had a gun on him and would use it on Mathur.
As those present endeavored to de-escalate the situation, Mathur queried T. Bott as why, as such a purported big shot, he could not just wire Mathur the $1 million back immediately without any profits.
T. Bott responded that he would do it the following day but changed his mind minutes later, and instructed Mathur to wait until the end of this month, and if there was no progress, T. Bott said he would “vouch for it”.
Subsequently, T. Bott advised Mathur that, due to involvement of mutual friends between the two, T. Bott would provide a loan against the funds in the Meta Trader account until a supposed “withdrawal issue” could be navigated.
As at the time of filing his lawsuit, Mathur claims “no loan or other payments have been made”.
Rather, following involvement of counsel and a preliminary investigation, it has become evidence that the entire investment opportunity is and always was a sham.
In line with The Traders Domain having already collapsed by the time Bott made the DWHTD investment offer to Mathur, Mathur further learned
DWHTD was incorporated on December 28, 2022, which is after T. Bott floated the investment opportunity to Mathur’s acquaintances in mid-December 2023 with representations that the company historically could return the promised 18% monthly returns on investment.
[Furthermore] DWHTD has no actual physical presence in Singapore and its address is a corporate agent, offering incorporation services and a “virtual” address.
Mathur also noted DWHTD’s stated business nature was “trading of gold against the dollar” in the IMA. DWHTD’s shell company registration however stated it was involved in “development of software and applications (except games and cybersecurity)”.
Next, for a reason that remains unanswered, T. Bott directed Mathur to wire the funds to a Utah company T. Bott owns with his brother, R. Bott.
This company is not listed in the IMA and has no visible connection to anything subject to the IMA.
Mathur concludes;
In sum, this transaction is, on its face, a scam perpetrated in a blunt fashion, through plain fraud.
There are no returns, there is no live viable company, and there is no trading.
Rather, T. Bott and his brother R. Bott, simply defrauded EM1 out of $1 million.
Causes of action against DWHTD and the Botts include:
fraud;
conversion;
violation of Penal Code section 496; and
breach of contract
On or around February 7th, 2024, Bott had Mathur’s Complaint moved from the Los Angeles Superior Court to the Central District of California.
On March 27th, Bott filed his answer to Mathur’s complaint – mostly denying Mathur’s allegations. Bott also filed a counterclaim against Mathur, alleging “intentional infliction of emotional distress”.
As opposed to pitching Mathur himself on The Traders Domain, Bott claims “third parties” did his dirty work.
What exactly was represented represented to Mathur regarding the Drive Fund is unknow [sic].
However, after discussing the opportunity with the third parties, Mathur became immersed with the Drive Fund, and therefore wanted to invest $1,000,000, hoping that he would receive a large return on his investment.
Again, pursuant to The Traders Domain collapsing in or around October 2022, Bott claims
the Drive Fund was no longer accepting further investments.
So, the only way to obtain a holding in the Drive Fund would be to purchase all or part of an existing holding from someone who had already invested in the opportunity.
Once purchased, the already-invested holder would transfer part of his holding to the purchaser, thereby granting the purchaser a position in the Drive Fund in an amount equal to his purchase.
Bott claims undisclosed “third parties … each had a $1,000,000 in the Drive Fund” [sic].
Because Mathur wanted a $1,000,000 holding himself, he was unable to take the holding by the third parties since they did not have enough to transfer.
As a result, the third parties informed Mathur they had an acquittance [sic] who had several millions of dollars in the Drive Fund, and who may be willing to transfer a million dollars of that holding to Mathur. That acquittance [sic] was Bott.
Bott claims it was only then that he met Mathur.
Per Mathur’s request, the third parties reached out to Bott and inquired whether he would be willing to sell a million dollars of his holding in the Drive Fund to Mathur.
At first, Bott was reluctant to sell any portion of his holding to Mathur because he was not familiar with Mathur and had no prior relationship whatsoever.
However, because of Bott’s close relationship with the third parties, he eventually acquiesced to their request and agreed to meet with Mathur.
Thereafter, Mathur and Bott spoke on the phone. Bott was very clear to Mathur that he was not making any representations or guarantees regarding the Drive Fund, and that Mathur needed to conduct his own due diligence to determine whether he wanted to proceed with the transaction.
Bott agrees the exhibited IMA was executed in early January 2023. Bott doesn’t explain why himself or his Utah shell company didn’t appear on any signed agreements.
On January 9, 2023, Mathur transferred $1,000,000 to Bott’s company.
That same day, Bott transferred $1,000,000 of the Drive Fund holding to Mathur’s company’s, EM1 Capital, LLC.
Again, remembering that The Traders Domain collapsed in or around October 2022, Bott alleges;
As time went one, the Drive Fund eventually defaulted, and the opportunity went nowhere. Fortunately for all the investors, the Drive Fund refunded everyone their initial investment plus any additional return that was gained while the Drive Fund was active.
The funds were transferred to each investor’s Trader Domain account.
However, at the same time the Drive Fund defaulted, Trader’s Domain began having liquidity issues, and all accounts were placed on hold.
To date, all Trader Domain accounts are placed on hold. As a result, no investor of the Drive Fund has been able to withdraw their funds from the Trader Domain platform. This includes both Bott and Mathur.
Bott’s allegations require shifting locking of investor accounts to around February or March 2023 – six months or so after The Trader Domain collapsed.
The rest of Bott’s counterclaim presents him as an innocent bystander;
Although Mathur made his decision to invest in the Drive Fund prior to meeting Bott, Mathur for some reason blamed Bott for having invested his $1,000,000.
Interestingly, the funds that were returned by the Drive Fund were sitting in a Trader Domain account that Mathur already had prior to speaking with Bott.
Bott had nothing to do with the activation of the Trader Domain account. Despite this, Mathur blamed Bott for his inability to withdraw the funds.
Subsequently, Mathur went on a rampage with threats against Bott.
For example, on or about March 12, 2023, Mathur was at a meeting at a private house with Bott and several other individuals.
During the meeting, Mathur approached Bott and began blaming him for not being able to withdraw the $1,000,000 mentioned above.
He then proceeded to make threats against Bott’s life unless the money was paid back.
After the threats were made, the third-party individuals present at the home got in between Mathur and Bott and broke up the confrontation.
In addition, Mathur has instructed certain individuals to contact Bott via text message to make death threats unless the $1,000,000 was paid back to Mathur.
Also, it has recently been discovered that Mathur was present at a party in California. Several attendees were friends of Bott.
During that party, Mathur began inquiring about Bott’s physical location, claiming that Mathur needed to get him served with the complaint at issue.
However, Bott had already been served with the complaint and Mathur was fully aware of this fact. Thus, it was clear that Mathur was attempting to find Bott to further carry out his death threats, and perhaps even to hurt Bott.
Bott asserts allegedly stealing $1 million from Mathur has left him “emotionally harmed”.
Bott is in fear for his life and continues to suffer emotional damage.
On April 12th, the court granted a motion by Richard Jason Bott to dismiss Mathur’s case against him. The dismissal was granted on personal jurisdiction grounds, not the merits of Mathur’s allegations.
Mathur was also denied from serving DWHTD Technology PTE LTD via email.
On April 10th, Mathur filed his First Amended Complaint. CTB Rise International Inc. was added as a defendant.
On May 23rd, Bott’s attorney informed the court that a private settlement had been reached. As a result, the court dismissed the case on May 24th.
From a regulatory and law enforcement perspective, the underlying alleged securities, commodities and wire fraud, as well as suspected money laundering, remains unaddressed.
Such is the case with the wider The Traders Domain Ponzi scheme, with total investor losses pegged at around $3.3 billion.

Who is Hardeep Singh Nijjar
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who became a prominent figure in the pro-Khalistan movement in Canada, was accused by the Indian government of various criminal activities related to separatism and terrorism. India claimed that Nijjar was involved in organizing and financing violent acts to further the cause of an independent Khalistan. Here are the key criminal accusations tied to him:
1. Terrorist Designation by India (2020)
In 2020, India officially declared Hardeep Singh Nijjar a "terrorist" under its Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). This designation was based on accusations that Nijjar had connections to banned militant organizations advocating for the violent secession of Punjab from India to create a Khalistan state.
2. Alleged Involvement in Bomb Plots
The Indian government accused Nijjar of being involved in plotting bomb attacks within India, specifically targeting key locations in Punjab. These plans, according to Indian intelligence agencies, were designed to create unrest and provoke violence to further the separatist agenda.
3. Links to Militant Groups
Indian authorities alleged that Nijjar had close ties with various Khalistani militant outfits, particularly the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF). He was accused of recruiting individuals for these groups, organizing their training, and planning attacks against Indian targets. The Indian government also claimed that Nijjar was coordinating with other separatist leaders in Pakistan to destabilize the Indian state.
4. Involvement in Funding and Radicalization
Nijjar was accused of using his position in Canada to fund and radicalize individuals in support of the Khalistan movement. According to Indian officials, he was involved in raising money through local Sikh organizations and temples in Canada to finance militant operations in Punjab. These operations allegedly included training camps for young recruits.
5. Mastermind of Targeted Killings
Indian security agencies alleged that Nijjar masterminded several targeted killings in India, aimed at eliminating individuals opposed to the Khalistan movement or those working against the separatist cause. These killings were described as part of a broader campaign to instill fear and push for Khalistan’s creation through violence.
6. Interference in Indian Politics
India also accused Nijjar of being part of a larger network of Khalistan sympathizers in Canada who sought to interfere with Indian politics by promoting anti-India sentiment abroad. He was charged with using Canadian soil to propagate propaganda, organise anti-India rallies, and disrupt diplomatic efforts between the two countries.

Welding Dreams, Digital Bridges: Filipino Welders in 2010s Toronto & The OFW Vote
The flickering arc of a welding torch illuminates a Filipino face, sweat beading on his brow despite the biting Toronto winter wind whistling through the construction site. This is a snapshot of the 2010s, a decade that saw a surge of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), particularly skilled tradespeople like welders, seeking opportunities in Canada, specifically in bustling metropolises like Toronto. The smartphone era, burgeoning throughout this period, revolutionized communication and connection, fundamentally altering the OFW experience. It facilitated easier access to job postings, streamlined communication with families back home, and provided a platform for community building among Filipinos abroad. Yet, it also brought into stark relief the challenges faced by these modern-day heroes, particularly regarding their participation in the Philippine democratic process: the OFW voting system.
The allure of Toronto for Filipino welders in the 2010s stemmed from a combination of factors. Canada's growing economy, coupled with a skilled labor shortage, created a demand for qualified tradespeople. Word spread quickly through expanding digital networks, amplified by the ease of sharing information online. Welders, recognized for their meticulous craftsmanship and strong work ethic, found themselves in high demand. Toronto, a hub of construction and infrastructure development, offered attractive wages and the promise of a better life, not just for the individual OFW, but for their families back in the Philippines.
The smartphone, rapidly becoming ubiquitous in the 2010s, played a crucial role in this migration. Job postings were readily accessible online, bypassing the traditional, often expensive, recruitment agencies. Communication with potential employers became more direct and efficient. Apps like Skype and Viber allowed welders to interview remotely, saving considerable time and money. Once in Toronto, these same technologies facilitated constant communication with loved ones back home, bridging the geographical divide and mitigating the emotional toll of separation. Online Filipino communities flourished, offering newcomers advice, support, and a sense of belonging in a foreign land. Websites like OFWJobs.org became vital resources, providing a centralized platform for job seekers and employers, further streamlining the employment process.
However, the very technology that empowered OFWs also highlighted a persistent challenge: their participation in Philippine elections. The OFW voting system, while designed to ensure the franchise for Filipinos abroad, faced numerous obstacles. Limited access to polling places, complex registration procedures, and inadequate information dissemination hampered voter turnout. The digital divide, despite the spread of smartphones, still impacted many OFWs, particularly those in remote areas or facing financial constraints. The irony was palpable: while technology facilitated their migration and professional growth, it couldn’t fully bridge the gap to their democratic rights.
The situation created a sense of disconnect. While contributing significantly to the Philippine economy through remittances, many OFWs felt their voices weren't being heard in the political arena. This disenfranchisement fueled discussions and debates within online Filipino communities. The ease of sharing information and mobilizing online allowed OFWs to organize and advocate for improvements to the voting system. They demanded easier registration processes, more accessible polling locations, and greater transparency in the electoral process. The smartphone became a tool not just for communication, but for political empowerment.
The 2010s also saw increasing professional growth opportunities for Filipino welders in Toronto. Canadian employers recognized their skills and dedication, leading to pathways for career advancement. Many welders pursued further certifications and training, leveraging their experience and the readily available educational resources in Canada to move into supervisory roles or specialize in high-demand welding techniques. The growing Filipino community in Toronto also provided networking opportunities, facilitating mentorship and knowledge sharing within the industry. This upward mobility contributed to a sense of professional pride and further solidified the reputation of Filipino welders in the Canadian construction landscape.
The impact of remittances sent home by these OFWs cannot be overstated. These funds often represented a lifeline for families in the Philippines, providing for education, healthcare, and improved living standards. The ease of online money transfers, another hallmark of the smartphone era, further streamlined this vital financial flow. This economic contribution underscored the significant role OFWs played in the Philippine economy, strengthening their claim to a more effective and inclusive voting system.
The struggle for greater political participation became intertwined with the pursuit of professional growth. OFWs realized that their economic contributions needed to be matched by political influence to ensure their rights and interests were protected both abroad and at home. They advocated for policies that would support their professional development in Canada while also addressing issues like worker protection and fair migration practices. The smartphone, acting as a megaphone, amplified their collective voice and facilitated greater engagement with Philippine political leaders and policymakers.
The contrast between the ease of connecting with loved ones back home and the difficulty of exercising their right to vote became increasingly stark. While technology allowed them to see their children’s faces and hear their voices, it couldn't guarantee their voice would be heard in shaping the future of their country. This realization fueled a growing demand for electoral reforms, pushing the issue of OFW voting rights to the forefront of the political discourse.
Looking back at the 2010s, the story of Filipino welders in Toronto is a testament to their resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to their families. It also highlights the transformative power of technology, particularly the smartphone, in shaping the OFW experience. While the challenges to full political participation remain, the seeds of change were sown during this period. The growing awareness of the importance of OFW votes, coupled with the increasing ability of OFWs to organize and advocate online, laid the groundwork for future progress in ensuring that the voices of these modern-day heroes are finally heard. Visit OFWJobs.org for more information on OFW employment opportunities.
