Growing up, you’d spent so many afternoon and nights in your childhood bedroom scribbling down notes into diaries. Some of it was reality, some of it was fantasy, but all of it was you. Once you were done, you would hide the journals all over your room, they were for your eyes only but your brother use to have a habit of finding them and reading them and teasing you if you happened to write about a boy you had a crush on.
Ironically, when you’d first started talking to Corpse, before he became your boyfriend, your brother had caught you sending him some heart emojis, and even as grown ups, he still teased you about it.
You weren’t surprised that hadn’t changed, but something that did change that did take you by surprise is how that hobby of writing brought you to where you were in your career.
You were on your way to your boyfriends place and in the passenger seat of your car was a CD. In a very early 2000s style, there was writing scribbled onto it done with a black sharpie and the letters read, ‘POV demo’. You could feel nervous butterflies gathering in your stomach as you neared closer and closer to Corpse’s place.
You’d had an incredible past few days. Writing always felt like something for fun, never something that would actually be a career prospect but when your YouTube videos of you sharing your original song ideas started to take off, people started to notice. Someone in particular being Ariana Grande. She’d fallen in love with your writing style and wanted to work with you to create a song for her next album, so of course you graciously and excitedly agreed.
It seemed you and Ariana were in similar phases of your life, both falling in love with someone who seemed so perfect for you. So the song came so easily for you, all you had to do was think of Corpse.
Your car came to a stop out the front of his place and you took in a few deep breaths as you unbuckled your seatbelt and picked up the CD from beside you. You’d written about Corpse before, but never something that was as confessional and honest as this song was.
Will he even like it? You thought to yourself and for a second you contemplated placing the CD under your car to run over it to destroy it. But you wanted him to hear it before it was released to the world. So with one last deep breath you shook your head to try to send the nervous thoughts to the back part of your brain as you exited your car with the disc that had the song on it in hand.
The time between knocking on his front door and him coming to open it had never felt this long before. You were chewing on your bottom lip and your forefinger was picking at the corner of your thumb nail as you anxiously waited. Then when the door opened, you spoke up before Corpse even had a chance to greet you. “I have a surprise for you!” You blurted out as you stepped inside and avoided bumping into him.
Corpse had a humoured yet confused expression as he watched you slip past him, usually you greeted each other with an exchange of touch, but you were barely looking at him right now and seemingly keeping your distance. “What-”
“No, please don’t say anything.” You held your hand up that wasn’t holding the CD as a signal to shoosh your boyfriend. “I have to show you right now before I change my mind.” You were visibly nervous, he could see it so clearly in you right now, so he listened and kept quiet. He wanted you to feel okay, but now you had spiked his curiosity, he had to know what the surprise was. “Can I put a disc in this?” You asked as you walked to a laptop that sat on his coffee table and sat down on the floor to place the CD beside it so you could inspect.
“A disc for what?” He was puzzled by the question.
“Just answer!” You didn’t mean to snap at him, this was supposed to be a good surprise, but god your heart was beating so fast and it felt like it was lodged in your throat. You were about to spill your heart out to him like you never had before and you were terrified of a potential rejection if he thought it was too much. Instead of questioning or arguing or snapping back at you, he neared you instead. Corpse could see your hands shaking a little and you were hunched in on yourself. Usually you were the confident one of the two of you so seeing you in this insecure state was something he wasn’t exactly used to. However, he had seen it before, but only a very few times. As confident and bright as you were, he’d been slowly learning your more deep seeded fears and vulnerabilities, so he was learning how to handle it when you were in a state like this.
“Hey,” He called for your attention as he crouched down beside you his voice ever so calm, one of his hands coming to land on the small of your back and his other grabbed hold of one of your hands. “Look at me.” Finally, you did. With your bottom lip caught between your teeth you turned your head and found his gaze, your eyes flickered between his, you were still so nervous. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.”
“Really?”
“I mean, yeah, I am. I’m just-” You cut yourself off and you broke away from his gaze.
“Just what?”
“Scared.”
At that answer, his hand on your back rounded around you further as he let go of your hand so he could instead shift closer to you again and use that hand to bring it to the side of your face, encouraging you to turn to him again. “Why are you scared?”
“I’ve really just got to show you this.” Was the only answer you could give him without spoiling what the surprise was.
“Do you want to?” How badly he wanted to know what the surprise was, but he wouldn’t push for it if it caused you to be more on edge.
“Yeah.” You answered him and he smiled before leaning in to kiss you.
“Go ahead then, baby.” Corpse told you after you broke apart, his hands falling from you as you scooted forward to be in front of the laptop and he leant back against the couch.
One last time, you looked back at him over your shoulder, you were more in front of him now, but he was still within an arms length. He nodded fervently at you, watching with interest as turned your attention back to the laptop and opened the device and inserted the disc. With a few clicks, the beginning of the song started to play and you dropped your vision to your hands that sat in your lap before the first lyrics were sung.
It's like you got superpowers Turn my minutes into hours You got more than 20-20, babe
Hearing this, Corpse sucked in a quick breath, it was clicking in his mind what the surprise was.
Made of glass the way you see through me
He directed his gaze to the back of your head, how he wished he could see your face right now, but he knew you must have needed to be facing away from him right now to feel okay with doing this.
You know me better than I do Can't seem to keep nothing from you How you touch my soul from the outside? Permeate my ego and my pride
You spent so much time laughing and joking around, you were a very playful person and sometimes, you found it hard to get more serious. Corpse had been one of the only people to be able to see through this, to be able to reach a more exposed part of you. And as he listened to those lyrics, he recounted a time the two of you were wine drunk and and it was one of the first times you’d ever really opened up to him. But then right after, you’d attempted to laugh it off and he stopped you and made you feel okay with not having to seem like you were at 100% all the time, especially with him.
I wanna love me The way that you love me Ooh, for all of my pretty And all of my ugly too I'd love to see me from your point of view I wanna trust me The way that you trust me Ooh, 'cause nobody ever loved me like you do I'd love to see me from your point of view
The chorus played and Corpse couldn’t help himself, he leant forward slightly to make contact with your elbow. And even though nothing was said, you understood fully what he wanted, because you did too. Your hand left your lap and without turning your head towards him, you reached your arm behind you, he grabbed your hand once more, intertwining your fingers with his.
I'm gеtting used to receiving Still gеtting good at not leaving I'ma love you even though I'm scared
These lyrics caused his hand to squeeze tighter around yours. It was only a few weeks ago the two of you had a pretty big fight, although it was only born out of fear and it ended in tears. When you were apologising, you’d told him you were so happy he was still with you and you’d also opened up to him about how with every past relationship, you never let yourself get in too deep, you always made a run for it before your heart was too in it. But you didn’t want that to happen with Corpse.
Learning to be grateful for myself You love my lips 'cause they say the Things we've always been afraid of I can feel it starting to subside Learning to believe in what is mine
The chorus began to play again and Corpse tugged on your hand.
I wanna love me The way that you love me Ooh, for all of my pretty And all of my ugly too I'd love to see me from your point of view
At first, you didn’t respond, and he really didn’t want to interrupt the song, but he wanted you to be in his arms so badly. “Come here.” He tugged again and this time, you finally moved. Your hands broke apart as you scooted back to sit beside him where he was still leaning against the couch and as soon as you were there, his arms came around you, pulling you in so close.
I wanna trust me The way that you trust me Ooh, 'cause nobody ever loved me like you do I'd love to see me from your point of view
Your heart was beating so hard and your cheeks were flushed as you nestled your head into his neck.
I couldn't believe it, or see it for myself Know I be impatient, but now I'm out here Falling, falling, frozen, slowly thawing, got me right
His arms were around you so tight and your emotions were running so high. Tears were pooling in your eyes as your hand grabbed ahold of his shirt, the material pulling taut as your hand tightened into a fist over the material.
I won't keep you waiting All my baggage fading, safely And if my eyes deceive me Won't let them stray too far away
Corpse turned his head in order to be able to press his lips against your forehead as the chorus begun to play out one last time.
I wanna love me The way that you love me Ooh, for all of my pretty And all of my ugly too
Just like earlier, one of his hands would come to cup around the side of your face, encouraging you to look at him again. With his aid, you’d move your head out from the hiding spot you’d found in the form of his neck.
I'd love to see me from your point of view
Corpse swiped his thumb across your cheeks upon seeing that a few tears had spilled over the edges of your eyelids, you were still keeping your eyesight down.
I wanna trust me, ooh The way that you trust me, baby
He’d dip his head then, still trying to connect eye contact. You’d glance up and much to your surprise, tears had begun to bubble in Corpse’s eyes too. You’d let out the softest gasp and your hand would lift to grab a hold of his wrist of his hand that was still cradling the side of your face.
'Cause nobody ever loved me like you do
As the songs last lines were playing, the two of you moved your faces closer together to meet for a passionate kiss.
I'd love to see me from your point of view
The both of you poured every emotion you were currently feeling into the physical display of love and adoration. Deepening the kiss, you’d kneel up briefly so you could climb into his lap and sling your arms around his neck and his arm would tighten around you.
When you both parted to catch a breath, you’d have your foreheads resting against one another until you lift your head back up to look at Corpse properly.
“Did you like it?”
He smiled and shook his head in disbelief at your question, how could you not know that the answer already? “I loved it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
“It’s everything I’ve always wanted to say to you.” Yet again, you moved your eyes away from his.
He could see that still, you were feeling vulnerable about sharing the song with him. “Baby,” And once again, he was using his hand against the side of your face to coax your eyesight back to his. “It was perfect.” He assured you and he would feel so pleased to finally see a smile appearing on your face. “Should we only communicate in songs now?” He’d joke and he’d feel even more delighted to hear you laugh.
“I love you.” You’d tell him.
“I love you, too.” He’d reply.
“No, like, I really fucking love you.”
“I get it, because I really fucking love you.”
The both of you would laugh again and when it subsided, you shared another kiss.
“Play the song again.”

Bright - Bucky Barnes - Part Six
Fandom: Avengers
Type: Series
Word Count: I give up keeping track
Character(s): Shuri, Natasha, Maeve, Bucky, Steve, Dora Milaje, Xavier, Logan, Rogue, Storm, Kitty, Kurt
Warning(s): Cussing, Mentions of attempted suicide (but shouldn’t be anything triggering), smut (maybe), mentions of X-Men, Steve is crushing
A/N: This picks up almost right after Black Panther, but before Bucky is awake, there is no Thanos, and everyone is alive.
Now would be a good time to mention that I have just a slapdash of different X-Men timelines and stuff thrown together.
"You're glowing." Nat says during their next visit, the two of them are in Shuri's lab, Steve and Bucky had gone to have a guy's day, while they decided to spend time with the genius girl. Mainly because they're both do of her, and miss having another woman around, even younger than the two of them are.
"I am not." Maeve retorts as she flips through some of Shuri's designs for a new suit for the mutant.
"You are too!" Shuri giggles as she walks over to the table, hopping up on the metal beside Maeve. "You have been for a few days now."
"Is this cause of Steve? Have you decided to give him a chance?" Natasha asks with an excited edge in her tone. Maeve sighs as she closes the booklet in her hand, Natasha nudges her side as she looks at the ex-assassin.
"No, because I don't feel that way for him. He's like my brother. Also, I'm not glowing," She turns to the younger girl. "I have not been glowing," She clambers to her feet to look at the two women. "there is no glowing!" Her words are punctuated by the slap of the booklet on the table between the two grinning women.
"I think it's one of the village men." Shuri says as she glances at Natasha. "A few days ago she went home very tired, she looked worn out from something, and the next day she came back, and she was glowing, happy, without any bags under her eyes."
"Have you been paying some conjugal visits in the night, Mae?" Natasha asks as Maeve's face turns red.
"No! Oh my Lord, Nat! Wh-Why whywhywhy why would ask me that?!" Maeve stammers out as the two other women start laughing. "Wh-Wha-What is wrong with you two?! I swear to enjoy seeing me flustered!" Shuri and Natasha exchange looks before giggling again.
"We do." They say in unison as Maeve huffs, stomping her foot as her arms cross over her chest.
"It's only because we love you, Mae!" Natasha shouts as Maeve turns to stride out of the lab. "Maeve! Maeve come back!" Natasha calls as Maeve giggles, turning around to walk back in. "We'll stop. Okay?" Natasha smiles wider as soon as she sees Maeve walking back in with a fake pout.
"Indeed. My apologies." Shuri grins. "Perhaps you are glowing because you are just happier than you have been since before I've known you?" Maeve drops the pout to come hug her two friends.
"I feel very happy. I've got good friends, a nice home, and therapy is helping me a lot. I'm painting more, I'm writing more, I'm gardening more." She looks at Natasha. "Nat, I know I was so angry when you guys left me here before, but-"
"No apologies." Natasha says as she reaches up to push a burgundy lock from Maeve's bright blue eyes. "You're healthy and happy, that's all I want for you, sis."
"That and a good lay on occasion." Shuri pipes up, causing Natasha to throw her head back, laughing as Maeve turns bright pink.
"You said you'd stop!"
"My apologies, but you can't expect me to not take the opportunity lain before me!" Shuri giggles with her adorably toothy smile, and Maeve shakes her head. "Now, I will stop." She promises.
"Your promises aren't worth shit." Maeve jokes, causing Shuri to pretend to faint against the table in shock. The three of them laugh, continuing to joke around and chat until dinner in the palace, where Bucky and Steve join them once more. Once dinner is done and they all start towards the Quinjet, Maeve falls to the back of the group after tapping on Steve's shoulder.
"Yeah Doll?" He asks with bright eyes, his scruff is groomed but still not gone, she notes that she's getting a bit find of it. It suits him.
"Steve, you asked me-"
"It's a no isn't it?" He asks, cutting her off so she doesn't have to reiterate the conversation and her awkward explanation.
"It's just that, I don't feel that way for you, Stevie." She looks up at him as she fiddles with her fingers before her, rocking on her heels. "You're my brother, and one of my greatest friends. I never felt like that with you, and while that's the case, I don't want to lose what we have." Her eyes are pointed at the ground now, wavering with guilt that is visible for anyone to see. "I value our friendship more than anything, and if I lose you becau-"
"No no, stop Maeve." He grasps her shoulders, her eyes snap up to look at him. "There's no losing me. I love you, friend or more, and maybe some part of me is mistaking familial love for romantic, but I'm not leaving. You don't have to give a long speech, you don't have to worry about me badgering you, and you don't ever ever apologize for your feelings. I'm not going to guilt trip you for not liking me the way I like you. Yes, it hurts right now, and yes it will hurt for awhile, but I will not abandon you or our friendship because if this." Her eyes waver with tears as she throws her arms around his shoulders, hugging him as he wraps his arms around her, hugging her back as gently as he can.
"You're going find someone to replace this warm you feel, Steve. And that light of elation you hold for Peggy, that burns in your chest at the mere mention of her name, will be someone else's light as well. I promise. It's just not me." She whispers into his ear, before they pull apart, and Steve smiles down at her.
"You two okay?" Bucky calls as he steps back into look for them. She jerks away from Steve, wiping away a tear from her eye, and Steve chuckles.
"Yeah. Just clearing some stuff up." He shoves one hand in his pocket, throwing an arm over Bucky's shoulder as the two of them walk towards the Quinjet, and as she walks towards the landing platform, Natasha walks over to her.
"How'd it go?"
"I believe he took it rather well." Maeve answers, looking at the laughter on Steve's face, feeling his genuine content at having a response to his feelings, with just barely a hint of sadness. "Yeah," She smiles at him as he waves and smiles back. "really well."
Two weeks later, Shuri wanders over to the two person village, her Dora Milaje guard not far behind. She finds herself grinning from ear to ear as she knocks on the mutant woman's door, which is opened by none other than Bucky, instead of Maeve. "Shuri, what can we do for you?" Maeve's voice reaches just past Bucky's shoulder, the soldier that is stooped in the door way, steps back to let the little Wakandan princess in.
"I have managed to convince my brother, to let you visit your home with an armed guard." She announces to Maeve, who drops the spatula in her hand, looking at the princess with wide eyes, reflected with terror and happiness. "We will fly you to there, and back. You may stay for a week."
"Sh-Shuri." Maeve stammers out in surprise, her tone is choked, and Shuri becomes confused. "I-I haven't been home in... Years!" She struggles to swallow as Bucky walks over to rub a big and warm hand on her back. "To suddenly go back, and to see everyone, I-I-I can't-"
"You do not have to." Shuri says in understanding, but Maeve quickly shakes her head.
"No, I want to!"
"You will not be alone. Sergeant Barnes will be accompanying you, as the part of your armed guard." Shuri's explanation causes Bucky and Maeve to exchange worried looks. "As long as you remain within range of your Kimoyo beads, and do not stray far from the manor, you should be fine. Putting nobody in danger."
"Then, all I say is... How much time do I have to pack?" Maeve asks carefully, but Bucky can practically feel the terror radiating off of her.
"You leave midday tomorrow." Shuri nods as Maeve wraps her arms around Shuri in a tight squeeze, before they part and they princess leaves.
"You gonna be alright, Darlin'?" Bucky asks as she stares at the door blankly. "Maeve?" He asks slowly as waves a hand in front of her face, causing her to jump, snapping out of whatever was making her space out.
"Hmm?" She looks at him, then smiles. "Oh, yes. I'll be fine." She stoops down to grab the spatula from the floor, then walks over to the sink to wash it. "I'm a little nervous, but extremely happy to see everyone again, well... maybe not everyone." She dries the spatula and goes over to the stove to stir the fixings in the pan, grateful that the food didn't burn. "Besides, I did say I wanted to introduce you to my family." She grins at him, a beam of happiness and warmth seems to pierce him in the chest.
"I can't wait, Darlin'." He leans against the counter beside the stove, arms crossed over his chest. "Now you know my next question, right?" She sheepishly looks up at him as he raises an eyebrow at her. "You gonna be okay to see this Logan fellow?"
"No." She speaks honestly, barely letting the question leave Bucky's lips. "But, I'll have to be. I miss everyone else too much not to go see them." Bucky pats her on the head, tussling her hair slightly, making her snack his hand, using the handle of the spatula to jab him in the side, making him chuckle. "Dinner's almost finished. Go wash up." He gives a mock salute, turns on his heel, and marches off to her bathroom as they both laugh. After dinner, she spends most of the night packing, then tossing and turning into midday the next day. After the long flight, it's nearly midnight, making Bucky and Maeve both a bit tired as the ramp lowers, and the two of them strut down it with their bags in hand. As soon as they get inside the manor, the sound of screaming makes Bucky drop his bag, hand going for his nearest gun, when a small figure of green, brown, and white blurs past him, barrelling Maeve over in an instant, the Mutant woman starts laughing.
"Ah missed you! Ah missed you, so much!" The smaller figure, a petite girl Bucky realizes, is sobbing as she hugs Maeve in a way that makes sure their skin isn't touching at all. Bucky drops his stance to pick up his bag from the hardwood floor.
"I've missed you too, Rogue. But, uh, can we get off the floor?" Maeve asks as she chuckles, the petite girl, Rogue, sniffles as she leans back on her knees.
"Sorry, Mae." Bucky walks over to help Maeve up, before he offers his metal limb to Rogue, who looks at him carefully, with hazel eyes.
"It's Vibranium. You won't hurt me." Bucky says, remembering the multiple doting conversations that Maeve had about the southernbelle. "See?" He reaches uo to remove the glove, showing the black and gold metal limb, and Rogue gapes a bit, before taking the hand he offers her again. Once on her feet, there's a poof of smoke in the hall, the smell of sulfur and rotten eggs is cloying as he turns towards it, readying to fight.
"Geez, like, Kurt, we couldn't just walk to the kitchen?" A young woman's voice meets Bucky, surprised that a blue furry boy with a pronged tail, has an arm wrapped around a smaller girl's form, her hand is waving before her nose, as if to wave off the smell.
"Zorry, Kitty, it is ezay to forget zat it doesn't smell good in small spaces." The German accident from the blue boy makes Bucky raise an eyebrow in surprise.
"Hey, guys. Look who's here." Rogue says from behind him, causing the two bickering teens to turn, before the girl squeals, dashing across the hall, right through Bucky's chest, and then throws herself into Maeve's arms. The more than Bucky looks at the two of them, the more he knows who they are, especially with how the other girl when right through him. That must be Kitty.
"Maeve, it haz been forever!" The blue German boy disappears in a puff of smoke, reappearing behind Maeve with the same stench, wrapping her in a hug as well. That must be Kurt.
"How are all my ducklings?" Maeve inquires playfully as they all part, Kurt grabs her bag from her as Kitty jumps up and down in the hall.
"Like, totally psyched that you're back! What was it like? Did you get to work with Black Widow? Oh, is Captain America dreamy? I bet he's super dreamy!" Kitty rambles as Rogue tugs Maeve from the hall, Bucky follows behind diligently.
"The Professor wants to talk with you and your friend." Rogue says, giving Bucky a friendly smile as she opens a door nearby. The office is well lit, with warm light, the smell of old books and ink hangs in the air, and Bucky is surprised to find a bald man in a wheelchair behind a heavy oak desk.
"Ah, if it isn't our very own, Blitz." The man greets, a fatherly smile on his face as the teens leave the office, shutting the door behind them.
"Blitz?" Bucky asks teasingly, causing Maeve to sheepishly rub the back of her neck.
"Codename." She explains offhandedly, before walking over to round the desk, wrapping her arms around the old man's shoulders in a hug. "Hey, Professor." She finally greets as the man hugs her back, and Bucky nods in understanding. This was her Professor, Xavier.
"You may call me Charles if you prefer." Bucky jumps as the man refers to him, before remembering that he's a telepath like Maeve. "Though not as powerful as her, thanks to her Empathy."
"Charlie," Maeve says sheepishly as she rounds to tug Bucky further into the office, the two of them sit before the desk in matching chairs, bags at their feet. "I feel like I'm in classes again, sitting in these chairs."
"You were a bright pupil. Which makes what happened to you, all the more saddening, that I never got to see you teach those you loved."
"Teach?" Bucky looks at Maeve again.
"I wanted to teach students after graduating. But, all that happened-" She shakes her head, looking up at Xavier. "I'm assuming that isn't just a simple visit, is it?" Bucky sits up straighter in the chair, hearing the firm tone in her voice.
"I'm afraid not, my dear. The past few months, Logan and Storm have been tracking a mutant with a... unique set of abilities." Xavier folds his hands before him on the desk, looking her in the eye. "As unique set of abilities as the combination of your own."
"What?" She gapes at the Professor as Bucky glances between the two of them. "Is it-"
"We are unsure. But, when Logan managed to catch her at one point, she was injured. The blood on his uniform gave us enough DNA to run a comparison. Maeve," Xavier looks down for a moment, as if processing how to explain the news. "the chromosomes are very similar. I believe that this is your biological mother." Bucky watches as the blood drains from Maeve's face, making him worry as he shifts in his seat.
"Wh-Why's that a problem?" Bucky finally inquires, making Maeve jerk in her seat, as if she forgot he was there.
"My biological parents were presumed dead after their house caught fire. I wasn't but a couple of weeks old, and the fire department was able to rescue me, but everywhere else was inaccessible because it was collapsing." She looks out the window, studying the familiar terrain of the land. "This means that all this time, my mother was-" She let's out a shaky breath. "and she just left me?"
"Darlin'," Bucky is out of his seat, squatting before her chair, taking her hands in his own. "you don't know that for sure. Maybe she wasn't aware you were alive, just like you weren't aware she was."
"But, she left me, Bucky." He reaches up to caress her cheek, wiping away a stray tear with a warm thumb.
"We'll figure out what happened." He promises, leaving her unable to do anything but nod.
"I didn't mean to upset you, my dear. But, you deserved to know the truth. I believe that we've kept too many secrets that have come to light I the wrong ways. I've much to do to reearn that trust you placed in me, that I lost." Xavier clears his throat, sounding surprisingly emotional, from what Bucky's heard, the man is often as emotional as a rock. "I will be here if you need to talk, for now, there is someone else dying to see you." As Maeve and Bucky both stand, the door to the office is thrown open, slamming against the wall like a powerful hurricane has hit it, and an african-american woman with snow-white locks walks in, eyes bright as she smiles, even her teeth are like sparkling snowflakes.
"Storm." Maeve is shaking as tears build in her eyes, before the two women meet each other half way, hugging so tight, it could practically rival the woman's hugs with Natasha.
"Blitz, I have missed you so." Storm's voice is like a cool wind, sweeping through like a breeze kissing balmy skin, and all Bucky can do is smile at the two of them. In the short time here, she's already changed. As part of the Avengers that he saw, she was often out into a little sister like roll, everyone being older than the burgundy haired young woman. But here, she's like a doting aunt and mom, and a sister in different respects. Bucky thinks he likes both equally.
"I'm sorry, it's taken me so long to come back." Maeve murmurs as she quakes in the older woman's arms, Storm presses a kiss to the crown of her hair, pulling away to cup Maeve's face in her hands, looking into her eyes.
"Never apologize for doing what you think is best for you." She pets Maeve's hair, before kissing her forehead. "Now come, you and your," She glances at Bucky, who is decked out in all black tactical gear, weapons in almost every accessable part if his body. "companion, you always did like the dangerous ones, must be tired. I'll show you to your rooms." Maeve blushes but nods as she walks over to grab her bag, but Bucky's already hefting the duffle over his shoulder, and the two of them are following Storm down the hall. It isn't long to see that Storm is leading her to her old room, the one that she had before she shared with Logan, which in passing his room, she notices the slash marks in an X in the wood door, making her frown as she follows Storm along the old teacher's corridor. "Hank and I prepared your old room as soon as we heard you were returning. I'm afraid that we can only provide a cot in there for your company."
"That's fine." Bucky answers softly, causing Storm to look over her shoulder at him, studying him for a moment, before stopping and opening the nearby door. The minute Bucky steps into this room, he can smell the stagnant scent of Maeve everywhere, as though it's seeped into the furniture and walls and floor. Seeing as she wasn't very old when she had this room, she had explained that the student's rooms were all full up when she came, so they placed her in the room as even a teen, he's unsurprised that the walls are covered in posters, though he was thinking more boy bands and less... 40's and 50's themed dancing posters. The walls are a light red, the carpet is a rich cream, and there's a fireplace roaring to fill the slightly cold room with heat. After so long in a place that only has heat and rain, he'd forgotten that it would be snowing in New York, and so had Maeve, it was getting close to Thanksgiving.
There's a cot close to the bathroom, which Bucky doesn't hesitate to walk over to, throwing himself on it in exhaustion. The two women giggle as the watch him. "So much for being an armed guard." Maeve teases as he lifts his head to look at her with narrowed eyes, before he sticks his tongue out at her, making the two women laugh once again as his head falls right back into the pillow and blanket on the cot. "I suppose you deserve a break, Bucky." She looks at Storm, whose whole body is turned toward her, her brown eyes are bright with a gleam, and a smile on her face.
"It is good to see you smiling again. When you left, you would not look at anyone. I felt so saddened that I could not help you." Storm rests a hand on Maeve's shoulder, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Good night, dear sister."
"Good night, Storm." Maeve bids as the woman walks out, closing the door behind her, and Maeve changes out of her tactical gear in the bathroom, the full body leather suit had done little against the cold, but it was a force of habit to travel in it, incase of an attack. When she's changed into her too large plaid button down shirt and sleeping shorts, she leaves the bathroom to let Bucky in. He mumbles about a shower before bed, causing her to laugh as the door closes behind him, and as she's turning down her sheets, a loud rap on the door sounds. The sound is clue enough to who it is, making her palms sweat as she glances at the bathroom door, before crossing to the bedroom door, and slowly she opens it. Logan's demeanor hasn't changed, not that she had expected to, his hulking frame fills the doorway, his whiskey eyes are burning, his knuckles white with his fists clenched, he exudes his barely concealed rage as he looks at her. "Logan." It's one word, his name, steady despite her shaking.
"Maeve." Those whiskey eyes are burning into her, scorching as he looks her up and down, making her feel like a piece of meat, rather than safe as his gaze used to make her feel. "You left."
"You didn't come after me." She replies just as evenly.
"Didn't know you wanted me to."
"I didn't." He flinches at her cold honesty, as though he's been struck. "Logan, I hate you." She looks into his eyes with cold and calculated ruthlessness. "I hate you. You make think you have a right to be mad at me, but you haven't got any such right. You broke me. I can't stand the mere sight of you, right now. All I want to do is curl up, and hide until you leave. But, I can't do that." He takes a shaking breath, anger and sadness tinges his air, but she shakes her head. "You don't get to be angry, or sad, or anything towards me. There was never a "we" or an "us" Logan. It was just Jean. Always Jean. And then you didn't even care when Magneto-" Her voice breaks as she quivers in her place, eyes hazy with unshed tears. "I tried to kill myself, Logan. But, all you cared about what that Jean was alive. Then she died again, and you still didn't care that I was broken. The minute I started to feel again, you were gone. You ran away, not because of me, but because of fucking Jean." He swallows thickly as she reaches up to wipe her eyes. "Always Jean. So, yes I left. I wasn't going to wait for you again. Our relationship was over the minute I started, because you never loved me, you never cared more than sex." She sniffles as she looks up at him. "So, consider this the official break up. I fucking hate you, Logan. I deserve to be happy, and let's face it, you were never going to give it to me. Good-bye." She slams the door in the man's face, before turning to lean against the wood, sliding down it as she rubs her eyes with the palms of her hands, composing herself.
"I didn't mean to eavesdrop. Sound kinda travels in here." She looks up to see Bucky, dressed for bed, leaning against the doorway of the bathroom.
"That's always the disadvantage here. Old walls equal thin walls." She says un a surprisingly even voice. "Likely everyone else awake heard my speech too."
"Must make having sex seem like an orgy." Bucky chuckles, making her let out a weak laugh, before his smile falls as he pushes off the doorway. "You gonna be okay?" He asks, walking towards her.
"I don't know." He helps her to her feet, watching as she takes a deep breath of air, as if breathing fresh air for the first time in a long time. "Yes." She finally answers, letting the air out. "I'll be perfectly fine."

hi there! i'm so sorry to bother you but i'm kind of going through an episode right now and i love your imagines so much that i thought you could help me out. i had an emotionally and mentally abusive ex and recently them and their friend contacted me and are harassing me but i blocked them but i still can't help but feel shit. i was wondering if you could write a prompto x reader imagine where his s/o is dealing with the same thing and he comforts her and leads to smut too? xo.
Heey A-le-lone-wolf! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! And I’m so sorry you have to go through this. If you ever need an ear to listen to you can always shoot me a message. And I also hope that things will get better for you! And you’re not bothering me at all!!! :oLast but not least, thank you for your kind words and for sending that request.
It took quite long to finish because I didn’t want to make mistakes. The actual NSFW scene will be uploaded in a different post - but I promise you’ll get your smut! I’ll have to re-touch that part again but it should be up tomorrow. But I wanted you to know that I’m not ignoring your request and didn’t want to keep you waiting much longer! ^^
Anyway, I hope you like it
(P.S: I’m not ignoring any requests, I’m working on all of them).
Part: 1 out of 2
Words: 3000+
Genre: Eeeh, fluff but kind of angst too?
TW: Mentions & depictions of harassment, abuse, bullying and smut begins at the end - the actual scene is in a separate post.
“They’re doing it again!” Prompto’s S/O shouted, messages of her abusive ex and the army of “friends” they had spamming the notifications on her phone.
Over the past few days, they had been sending numerous messages over all kinds of social media harassing her, sending mean messages or even photos and video snippets. Prompto knew. He was there when it all began, when his S/O’s ex first tried to sneak his way back into her life. His first reaction was to take her phone - of course, after asking - and blocking them and deleting all messages for her. That didn’t stop them, though. Only hours later they created new accounts. More hurtful words were sent. Unfortunately, Prompto wasn’t there to stop them. She read through all of the messages, tried to come up with smart remarks but simply couldn’t.
Pick up the phone, I’ve got a bone to pick with you.You dare to be with that stupid blonde guy again?!Why waste your time. Just come back already. No one will ever love you as much as I did.We both know you need me. You’d be nothing without me. You should be grateful I’m willing to take you back after such a ridiculous attempt at breaking up.I’m the best thing that ever happened to you. Okay you know what, fuck you and your sorry ass.All my friends hate your worthless ass as well.I’m sure your boy is cheating on you. Think I’ve seen him with some blonde, busty mechanic. You should be thankful I’m trying to help you. This is all your fault! Such an ugly mess, probably crying like a baby. Get yourself together.
Those were just some of the texts she received. With each message, she heard their ex’ voice, saw their face scrunching up before they yelled at her. She could practically hear their voice in her head, haunting her all over again. They broke up over a year ago, yet they still tried to get her back. Before their final break up, she came back - multiple times. They always managed to guilt trip and manipulate her into believing she had to go back. Right after they put her down, slowly tore her self-esteem off, they comforted her, whispered sweet nothings into her ear.
It was a never-ending cycle of abuse. But eventually, she found the strength within herself to break it off. For good. Back then, they harassed her for a few months, made sure she knew about all their new relationships and how much better they were. They were obsessed with her, still trying to control her even from afar. She moved, bought a new phone and deleted all memories associated with them - including her old social media accounts.
And it helped. For some time at least.
(There’s a read more thing here)
Up until recently, they hadn’t spoken to her. But then it all resumed to where it ended: More attempts at making her feel worthless, unworthy of anything, followed. Once they had found her account and continued to bully her through social media messages, even let a friend jump in and spread the same hurtful words, it also didn’t take long before they found her new phone number.
Then they started calling her, hiding their ID to ensure she’d pick up, throwing shade and spilling hate. And now they were texting her, over and over again, using various different numbers to ensure she couldn’t just block them all.
“Shut up!” she screamed at her phone, her eyes tearing up as more messages popped up.
One had a picture attached to it which so happened to be an old nude they took per request. Back when she was still with her now-ex, it was something they demanded but she didn’t want to take. The way they continuously demanded it, not even asking kindly, had her in shock and terrified. They even threatened her about it. Out of fear, she took it.. And now they were using it as a weapon against her.
Wow, Jabba the Hutt much? Look at all those rolls of fat on your body. Ugly as hell. You might wanna consider surgery.
Want me to send that to your family? Show off your disgraceful body? Or maybe the football team wants something to laugh about?
This was the third day in a row they commented on her weight, calling her fat although she hadn’t gained weight in years. And if they weren’t calling her fat, they found other flaws about her body they just had to point out. It was all about making her feel insecure - and it worked. It always did.For the past three days, she hadn’t eaten. She was quite hungry but whenever she wanted to eat, she remembered how they commented on her eating behaviors back when they were dating. Both combined made her lose her appetite.
Another plate of food? Haven’t you eaten enough?
It all made her stomach twist. On the worst days, they smacked her food out of her hands, letting it fall to the ground - later playing it off as caring for her, not wanting her to get sick. She soon found herself eating less and less, forcing herself to believe she wasn’t hungry.
And now, again, they were screwing with her mind and her perception of herself.
Feeling various different emotions within herself ranking from sheer anger over complete disappointment and disbelief to sadness, she threw her phone against a wall. The screen cracked, parts of the glass spread all over the floor. Thankfully, it broke enough to actually turn off. The screen was black, no more notification sounds, no more vibrating and no more screen lighting up. It was eerily quiet as tears leaked from her eyes. She wanted to stay strong, wanted to fight them off but she couldn’t. They were in control over her. Even after all this time, they still had that connection, that bond she was desperately trying to cut. The bond that made her submit to them. A bond that created through trauma, tears, anger, threats and sweet, caring moments that turned out to be lies or complete manipulation. One second they raised their hand, telling her that they’d hit her if she wouldn’t do as they said, a second later they held her close, kissed her neck as they whispered how much they loved them and wanted them. It was a relationship that was far from healthy. A relationship that messed up her life, gave her trust issues, anxiety, depression and caused other health related trouble.
As she sat on her bed, crying, putting her head in her hands, she thought about her new boyfriend: Prompto Argentum.
They had been dating for quite some months but took it incredibly slow - he was a total sweetheart about it. He cared more than anyone ever did, even stayed up all night when she was panicking, making sure that she’d be okay and cooked her food or cleaned her apartment when she had no motivation to do so. She shared her situation and story rather early into the relationship - simply because she felt she was acting weird around him and wanted him to understand. He was always was an understanding sweetheart about it. Not once did he make stupid jokes or remarks - when she spoke, shared her story, he listened. And he always made sure she felt appreciated afterward. It took forever for her to let him in but eventually, she did. The way he carefully and so shyly asked for numerous dates surprised her - and made him seem incredibly cute, she couldn’t reject him - even though, she was still traumatized in some ways. And now he was joining her on her path of healing.
To her, it was a miracle that she managed to be with him, that she overcame her fears so quickly. But Prompto simply blew her away in the most positive way; always finding the right words to say and being an absolute sunshine. He was perfect ..and she didn’t feel good enough for him. Not once did she believe she was worth his time, worth his effort. And having her ex tell her that he might be cheating just made it worse. They had betrayed her when they were dating and didn’t even care about hiding it, too, just let her catch them cheating.. in their shared bedroom. And then they played it off as her not satisfying him. She knew the pain associated with being cheated on, the feeling of never being good enough, and she didn’t want to feel it again.
Minutes turned into hours in which she couldn’t calm herself. While her tears dried, the pain didn’t leave, the hurt was still visibly written on her face and her heart felt torn. And then her entrance door was suddenly opened and someone stepped inside. Her heart now palpitated from fear.
“Did they find out where I live..?” she thought, the trembling of her body increasing.
The footsteps came closer, becoming louder with every step. Shivers ran down her spine. It seemed like the stranger was walking through her apartment, looking for her. They picked up objects, a bottle even fell to the ground along with some keys, the abrupt noise further shaking her up. It was when they opened doors, switching on various lights, that she completely lost her cool. Her bedroom was the only room in which light was already on - the intruder must’ve known where she was ..but they waited, probably on purpose.
Her breathing picked up the second she spotted a shadow, the footsteps coming to a stop at the same time. For a moment, her eyes wandered between her door and her broken phone. She regretted having thrown her phone - the only object that would’ve made it possible to call the police. The handle lowered rather slowly, her breathing hitched and finally, the door started opening. She clutched onto her bedsheets, her widen eyes bathed in anxiety, focusing on the door.
And then he finally stood in front of her: Prompto.
With a huge, bright smile he entered the room, locking eyes with her right away. But the second he saw how shaken she was, his smile faded. He let go of the handle and slowly approached her trembling frame.
“Are you.. Okay? I tried to call you but.. You didn’t pick up,” he explained, watching her in shock.
She couldn’t speak, instead broke into a well of tears again. Prompto’s gaze softened, he quickly sat down beside her, making sure to keep a little distance in case she didn’t want his near right now. He knew something was off, he knew she was far from doing good - and he knew that she needed him.
“What happened?” he asked, his hand gently reaching out for one of hers.
Still, she couldn’t speak. She was well aware of how he didn’t want to pressure her, never wanted to make her feel trapped like her ex did and always asked for permission but right now, all she wanted was for him to hold her - comfort her. To let him know about her needs, she tugged on his arm, pulling him closer.Although they hadn’t been dating for all too long, he could practically read her mind - he knew what she needed, was just a little hesitant about it. But as she tugged on his arm, he took it as a sign that she wanted to be closer and he gladly followed her demand. His arms wrapped around her frail body, pulling her into his chest. She buried her face in his shirt, soaking it with her tears and placed one of her hands on his shoulder for support. He held her close, placed soft kisses on her hair while he rubbed her back. His embrace was where she felt safest. He was her safe haven.
Every now and then, his eyes wandered around the room, searching for hints of what could’ve happened while he wasn’t around, searching for what upset them so badly. Eventually, his eyes got caught on her broken, shattered phone and it slowly made sense to him. There was only one thing that could’ve upset her so bad that she would’ve thrown her phone; her ex.
“Did they reach out to you again..?” he asked, making sure his voice was as soft as it could possibly be.
“Y-yes..” she stuttered, sobbing but slowly calming down while listening to her lover’s soothing heartbeat.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” he suggested, running a hand through her hair.
“It’s.. The s-same as always..” she shrugged, biting her lip right after, ”Called me names.. Put me down.. Even said you were cheating.“
Their relationship had always been about honesty and truth - no lies or secrets were kept - therefore, of course, she told him.
”Oh god.. I’d never cheat on you..“ he whispered, kissing her forehead.
”Yeah, p-please don’t..“ she mumbled, remembering how much it affected her self-esteem the last time it happened.
”I won’t. Never. I promise,“ he murmured looking down at her the second her head moved upwards.
Her lips formed a small smile at his response, desperately trying to believe him - but that was still quite hard. She was still recovering from all the mental abuse she endured over years. And he knew she was still struggling, trying her best at believing him - he was fine with it, more patient than most people would’ve been. Prompto knew she wasn’t trying to harm him anyhow but instead trying to overcome her trust issues - it meant a lot to him. He treasured her, dearly, genuinely.
”So he send messages again?“ he asked carefully, making sure to caress her cheek to provide comfort as he spoke.
”Y-yeah.. And calls.. Voice messages.. Photos..“ she replied, the volume of her voice decreasing steadily.
”The full program..“ Prompto summed up, sighing, squeezing her gently, ”I’m sorry they’re being such a pain.“
”It’s my fault.. I shouldn’t have been with them in the first place..“ she blamed herself, wiping some last tears away.
”No, don’t blame yourself. All you did.. Was fall in love. This is not your fault, not even in the slightest,“ he assured them.
”I.. Don’t know..“ she whispered, her eyes slowly drifting away from Prompto, ”I shouldn’t have .. Loved them.“
”Look at me..“ he spoke, gently lifting her chin so their eyes would meet, ”I’m sorry for what they’ve done to you.. I’m sorry you’ve been hurt so severely.. And I wish I could turn back time and stop them from causing any kind of pain. You don’t deserve to feel this way; you’re so perfect.. So beautiful.. So kind. I don’t understand how anyone could be willing to hurt such a mesmerizing woman like you are. All you’ve ever shown me was honesty and kindness.. And, of course, love. I’m so grateful to have you. I’m so glad I found someone that.. That is just as crazy as I am. Someone that I can share laughs with and my.. My secrets, too. You.. You mean the world to me. And I don’t ever want to lose you. Over these past months, you showed me what love is. Even after you’ve experienced something so horrible you manage to be a wonderful person. You even.. Help me improve myself. I will never get why cruel people like.. Your ex.. Exist or why they love to be the way they are. But I know that it has nothing to do with you. Their behavior is terrible and you don’t deserve that. They treated you badly - terribly. All you did was love them. All they did was destroy you. It’s not your fault they chose to be this way. You’re a beautiful person.“
His S/O teared up lightly and a small smile formed again. Prompto’s words hit home.
”Wh-what I’m trying to say is,.. I.. I love you,“ he stuttered, blushing as he finally said those magic three words he meant to say ages ago.
The only reason to why he waited was that he didn’t want to put pressure on her. But now felt like the right time, the right moment to spill his feelings. The second she heard those words, a few tears fell from her eyes. Sure, she had heard them before - from her ex - but it never felt as genuine. Butterflies roamed through her stomach, while her warmed heart raced. Those words were something she usually didn’t believe but.. For some reason, she knew Prompto was being honest. The tears in his own eyes probably gave it away. And he was anxiously waiting for an answer.
”I.. I love you too,“ she admitted, the heat rising to her cheeks as well while she started cupping his face with her hands and carefully pulled it down towards hers.
Both of them closed their eyes, Prompto chuckled from relieve only moments before their lips touched. It didn’t take long before they were in perfect sync, sharing subtle, sweet kisses over and over again. She managed to change her position, putting one of her legs on either side of his so they’d be on the same level and he wouldn’t have to glance down. Prompto’s hands found their place on her waist while they continuously exchanged rather chaste kisses. At some point, they were both out of breath and she pulled away, in awe of his amazing kissing skills. Both their cheeks were still on fire, glowing bright red and now their lips were quite swollen, too. So far they hadn’t gone further than making out and even then, their kisses were always more on the innocent side and full of giggles. But it felt different this time.
”I’m sorry I’m such a.. I’m so much trouble,“ she apologized, staring right into his eyes while she spoke.
”You’re not a lot of trouble, sweetheart. And even if, you’re worth all the trouble in the world. But really, there’s nothing you need to apologize for,“ he explained, brushing some of her hair behind her ear.
”Awh, stop,“ she giggled, burying her face in the crook of his neck so he wouldn’t see her blush.
”You’re the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me,“ he whispered into her ear, placing a mellow kiss on her earlobe right after.
The mere touch sent shivers down her spine and in return, she kissed the side of his neck. His breathing hitched and for a split second, he tightened his hold of her waist. She hit his sweet spot, his weak spot. Just to confirm her own thoughts, she kissed it again, gently nibbling on it, too. And that made him moan lightly - but he tried to hold back by sucking his bottom lip into his mouth. Meanwhile his hands “accidentally” slid up her body, pressing her further into him.
“I’m so glad to have you..” she whispered against his skin, “Thank you for everything.“
His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as she placed more kisses along his neck. It was her way of thanking him, emphasizing her words. But instead of just appreciating it for what it was, it drove him nuts. He couldn’t resist sliding one of his hands down to her thigh. Before he did anything, he waited for her reaction, made sure she wasn’t feeling anxious about it. But by the way she kept placing lazy, soft kisses on his neck, she wasn’t harboring any negative feelings from his touch. That’s why he gently squeezed it, tilting his head to the side at the same time - giving her better access. She didn’t mind his touch, liked it even. But she was unsure about where this was leading. That’s why she stopped kissing his neck and instead wrapped both of her arms around his neck and cuddled her face against his neck.
But Prompto was already set ablaze. However, this was not about him. The only thing he wanted was to make her realize what a goddess she really was - because he knew about her insecurities and how her ex kept nagging about her perfect body. Prompto absolutely loved it, saw no flaws in it - he wanted her to feel the same way about herself or at least wanted her to know that he thought she was the most dazzling woman he had ever met.
