good morning gamers im here revitalising my hypothetical g6 (again)

i felt weird that all of my previous mane 3 were from g3 so i decided to keep minty but switch out starsong and kimono for two others- mystic moon (a reimagining of moon shadow from g2) and honeycomb from g1.

i've written some descriptions on them but i'll keep them under the cut

Peppermint “Minty” Stockings has a big heart, running a candy store alongside her mother Spearmint. She can be quite clumsy and airheaded, but she always has good intentions. She isn’t a pushover however, having worked in retail for long enough to know how to put on a false smile and work around people. Minty tends to speak rather quickly, having a habit of not thinking about her words before she says them, which makes her fear being seen as annoying or saying something she didn’t mean. She has a sock collection and likes various arts and crafts activities- mostly scrapbooking. Minty is Pansexual and has undiagnosed ADHD. 

Mystic Moon is the one with the brain cells. Though she can seem majestic, she’s truly a huge nerd and loves learning about the world around her. She grew up very sheltered due to her status as a noblewoman but has since left her home behind to travel with her new friends. She has a child-like wonder and curiosity but also knows a bad idea when she sees one and is experienced enough with high-class ponies to be able to tell when somepony is using her, though this leads to her being distant with strangers at first. Mystic Moon is a fan of tarot cards and more obscure sources of magic like artifacts or scrolls rather than her horn’s magic. She is Aro-Ace and Autistic. 

Honeycomb is a queen bee with a strong soul. She knows what she wants and when she wants it, and though she comes off as aloof and snobby she is really as sweet as her name implies. Truth is, coming from a poorer family, she’s trying to earn the life she wishes she could have with her eye for nature and wonderful flower gardens. Honeycomb has a habit of immediately being suspicious of people that approach her unless it’s for business, but once friendship is gained, she wouldn’t hesitate to drop anything and everything to be there for you. Besides her flowers, she also occasionally plants vegetables, fruits, and other such plants- using them to cook delicious meals for herself and her friends. She’s Biromantic and Asexual.

hear me out ok things shawn knows/could reasonably extrapolate things from about lassie’s childhood by this ep:

1. wanted a pony

2. his mom yells at him over the phone for getting divorced

3. ?????? history nerd i guess

4. was stealing shawns dad for a while. quickly figured out that’s a bad idea but like. ok? least strange coworker behavior

meanwhile by this point i think lassie has like an itemized list of shawns various childhood oddities, including but not limited to:

1. raised by henry who is an immensely respected and famously intelligent detective, but who once you get to know him you realize is an incredibly flawed man who critiques you down to the most trivial shit. and is persistent with it. p e r s i s t e n t

2. mother is a psychologist with superpowers (eidetic memory) who isn’t in his life really

3. uncle is a serial liar and conman who liked to use shawn for his schemes and who still very obviously tries to take advantage of him

4. remarkably codependent on best friend who’s basically like his (often reluctant) handler at crime scenes from sbpd pov. side note the running gag where no one has any idea what gus does besides the job of ‘shawn’ is so funny

5. various things were done by henry to train kid shawn including locking him in the trunk of his car, teaching him evasion patterns to avoid people trying to kill him out in the woods, and in the present day at several points he just straight up tells shawn right in front of everyone to use his memory and observation to solve an issue (if i recall correctly first example of this is literally right in front of lassie in 1x13. lol. lmao.)

6. henry personally arrested and charged shawn with a felony. happy fathers day everyone

7. shawn scored a 100 on the detective exam as a 15 year old

8. scared of raccoons (henry spent time with him camping). add in whatever other trivia henry told him in between shitting on his fishing technique

see above why i think lassie ‘gets’ it by this point. shawn is a reflexive menace against any and all authority—and for all intents and purposes weird as hell—but he never really had a chance not to be with all that working against him. and by now lassie’s seen shawn at his best and worst. shawn can be annoying as shit but in the end he can be trusted to do the right thing. he took down goddamn yang

so then you get to high-noonish. shawn finally gets the opportunity to unlock lassie lore and is like. giddy about it. why wouldn’t he be? not only does he get prime blackmail material while getting to act out his childhood cowboy fantasy with gus, but lassie trusts him with a personal issue. dope.

except, uh.

i think he kind of knew lassie’s childhood sucked, but he was probably thinking ‘autistic in catholic school’ sucked, not ‘for years spent every weekend away from home alone with a bunch of strange and mean adults in a fake pioneer town because dad is a deadbeat and mom had to work all day every day and couldn’t make time for him’ sucked. meanwhile lassie’s his usual badly socialized german shepherd self the entire episode. he wants to let them in and ask for help but he’s also regretting opening up. it’s making him lash out. and shawn knows that! because he’s maladjusted too.

so shawn is like. unusually nice to him despite it. ribbing him with the nickname like friends do. lassie is hissing doing his whole bark bite growl routine, above and beyond actually to the point that shawn would be well justified in telling him to piss off, but instead shawn just goes don’t worry buddy we’ve got this :) gus isn’t it fun learning about lassie :) lassie you had a funny childhood nickname gus and i still have so much to figure out about you :) im gonna go get really emotionally invested in this now to the point that even my dad thinks I’m in too deep :P

Twilight twilight was born with the intent of being a successor to celestia and luna, they just never planned on her being so powerful. a cutie mark extending down a ponies leg is rare– borderline unheard of, and a symbol of raw power among ponies. twilight never wanted to be ruler but seemingly has no choice, as luna urges her to ascend to the throne as soon as possible to mend celetia’s ways, of course, celestia isn’t a horrible ruler but she was thrown into it at a very young age causing her to make questionable decisions over a millennia. 

in this version, once celestia had sent twilight to ponyville to fix her own mistake with nightmare moon, luna becomes twilights mentor; as celestia grows far too jealous of twilights raw power and call to responsibility to continue aiding her to the proper degree. the more time twilight spent with the mane 6 the further down her leg her cutie mark extended and eventually with a spell from luna and celestia combined she became an alicorn and began her slow rise to the throne of equestria. 

Rainbow dash rainbow dash was born premature and small, while her wings remained above average for a pegasus. this was honestly more inconvenient than impressive at times, causing him to be clumsy for most of their childhood earning him the name “rainbow crash”. he performed a sonic rainboom as a filly during a race which lead to permanent discolouration of her mane and coat, alongside burn marks, scars, chronic pain and partial hearing loss.  this rainboom was also the cause of the mane 6 gaining their cutie marks much like in the show, although slight alterations to the events in some cases. Fluttershy fluttershy, having partial earth pony heritage (1/4) was born with slightly underdeveloped wings, of course they can still fly just to a much lesser degree than most pegasai. she fell from cloudsdale as a filly (yes, because of the race) and discovered their love for animals in ponyville, this urged her desire to move to ponyville and she did as soon as she could live on her own. during the period she couldn’t move she had a variety of pets, some of which terrified her parents half to death.  Rarity rarity had a strong passion for fashion (ha ha) from a very young age, this was further sparked by a series of events leading to rainbow dash's sonic rainboom revealing a large geode to her (basic show lore stuff), though the outfits she made for the play did not contain them just were inspired by them (im sorry but the ones in the show were atrocious you cant tell me otherwise)

her crystal pony heritage is only obvious through faint gem-like patterns on her coat and in her eyes. in this version of the mlp universe only crystal ponies or those related to them are effected by the empires appearance effecting enchantments, so her heritage is revealed to her during the events of the crystal empires return and restoration (cadence is also crystal pony descendant) Pinkie pie pinkie pie is half pegasai, this gives them an airy quality (very bouncy) and an ability to interact with clouds (to a lesser degree than a full pegasai but she still can). unlike in the show her mane doesnt deflate when they become sad– her entire body becomes discoloured and they lose her "pinkie pie" like qualites (no more streamers in her mane :<). fun fact she knows multiple languages and ends up being the sole communicator of the group when they interact with other species (none of the mane 6 knew they could do this) Applejack applejack has an abnormal cutie mark, as it stretches further down her flank than most cuties marks do. it's not quite a symbol of power like twilights is simply due to its nature, she says its a symbol of her dedication and loyalty to her family (shes the element of loyalty in this it makes so much more sense) but twilight suspects something else (possible powerful unicorn heritage) no one takes twilight seriously with this theory though. 

to elaborate on the family thing 3 apples means granny smith, big mac and apple bloom, tree family tree (considering making it so once a new member of the family is added or born into the family the tree extends/grows more apples)

alright lemme explain. you have to first try and imagine being around when family guy was new; yes it's one of the worst shows on tv now but pretend for a moment that only those first few seasons exist. IMO the oversaturation of Seth MacFarlane cartoons (the unending existence of family guy as well as his other shows) has watered down what made the original run of family guy special; sure the prominence of cutaway gags is something most people hate the show for, but when you watch the original run, the cutaways aren't being used as a crutch; it's the show's damn legs.

the original run of family guy is primarily structured around cutaway gags and redirecting viewer expectations, like one character will say something like "i don't know if i can handle it, i don't work well under pressure" and suddenly there'll be a cutaway to a movie reference (like a bomb defusal scene or something i guess) with a bonus joke or two tied in there. but here, the joke isn't "haha movie reference", it's "wait, that's what he meant?" and i feel like a lot of that has become so diluted over time and the setups for cutaways became lazier (hey lois remembah da time i went ice skating with puff daddy) people started to look down on this method of delivering the comedy, when really the show is kinda built around that

i also feel like the characters and world in the show only really exist to serve the gags; the original griffin family is a very basic stereotypical 90s/2000s american family, not unlike that of the simpsons, but these characters have noticeably less depth than their counterparts. i think this is on purpose since the "plots" of these episodes are really just framing devices to slide in as many gags that would make logical sense in that story, whether it's through a cutaway as mentioned above or something tangentially related to a particular moment in the story. do any of the jokes pull from the main character's motivations and perspectives? of course not! this is family guy! but that's kind of the point. as far as I know, for it's time this must have been a pretty unique and fresh way to deliver comedy; rapid fire gags, but having a story to ground them as to not have it just be a random sketch comedy

unfortunately though as the show became more popular, so did the characters, and it's my theory that the showrunners felt inclined to focus more on the characters which led to more established character traits and whatnot; the problem is, when the characters and setting are supposed to be allowed to bend for jokes to land, it means the more often they had peter around, the more likely it was that they'd make him act like a jerk for a joke to land. and the more often this happened, the less these became one off gags and more of his actual character. this could go for pretty much every character in the show that was either a one trick pony or a blank slate, as they gained more screentime they became worse due to character development (if I can even call it that.)

not to say that the original run of family guy is a masterpiece, though; holy shit, it's definitely not. i think it's probably around a 7/10 on average, I mean if I typed this much you can probably tell I have an appreciation for it but even then it's nothing compared to the other shows Fox had at the time. that being said I think the show deserves a second look; since its initial run constantly being compared to the simpsons and its later years going through exponential seasonal rot, i feel like it never got a fair chance to be seen as at the very least decent by anyone other than casual audiences. im sorry for being autistic about fucking family guy of all things. i cannot promise it won't happen again but I will try my best.

if family guy had stayed cancelled back in 2002 the world would have a much higher opinion of it
