i made full “canon” allegiances for the start of the fourth apprentice: link to google doc

this is a part of a little series im doing, where im making full allegiances for the first book of every arc in order. here is the original post for the into the wild allegiances, the original post for the midnight allegiances, and then the original post for the sight allegiances

“canon” is in quotations because a lot of this is guesswork about who logically would be around at that point in time, but aren’t listed in allegiances or mentioned in the book.

this is mainly meant to be a resource for fanworks

po3 was really good at tracking apprentices. oots was decidedly not. apprentices would become warriors in one book and would still be listed as apprentices in the allegiances books later. the erins refused to cycle in new apprentices until the last hope. researching this was hell.

kinkfur - she is probably pregnant at the start of tfa

pouncekit/pouncetail - random one-off warrior from bramblestar’s storm and in the allegiances of dovewing’s silence. he could literally be born whenever, but he and pinenose showed up together a couple times, so maybe they’re close in age? (maybe he was weaselkit’s father)

riverclan:

willowshine - as i mentioned with flametail, she’s listed as a full cleric rather than an apprentice

shimmerpelt - appears as a warrior in dovewing’s silence. in sky, splashtail says that she’s been a “warrior forever” so. warrior it is

sneezepaw/sneezecloud - he isn’t listed in the allegiances for tfa, but he does show up. he’s still an apprentice while his littermate and younger clanmates are warriors. the first time he’s listed as a warrior is in avos. major F

troutpaw/troutstream and rushpaw/rushtail - become warriors in sign of the moon. rushtail is another classic early riverclan retiree, as he retires in dovewing’s silence

hollowpaw/hollowflight and mossypaw/mossyfoot - become warriors in the forgotten warrior

duskfur - mistystar’s omen and mothwing’s secret have conflicting timelines on when curlfeather and podlight’s age, as MO has them as kits when leopardstar died and MS has them as kits during the great battle. i decided to go with mistystar’s omen, since duskfur is listed as being in the nursery in tfa. duskfur probably has them sometime during this book

lakekit/lakeheart - appears as a warrior in dovewing’s silence. she could be older but her mate appears as an apprentice in DWS so i made her a kit

Pest Control

So if you've been looking at my posts lately you'll realize I've been fixating on Queen Danny. And I'm going to keep doing that. But let me grind up some new concepts to throw in.

You think that bugs can become ghosts? Other than singular ones like in Doctor's Disorders? Not really. They're not as obsessed or driven enough to be fully formed, and areas where they become even blobs via excess ecto would probably have a bunch of blob eaters or something balancing it out. So the singular ones in that episode would be much more rare in comparison.

And ghosts who control bugs don't count. We're talking about bugs being the ghosts.

But what about those mass insect killings? Pest control, or when a full apartment building lights on fire and there's enough ectoplasm around? You get a Hive.

Hives always prefer to work together, since even at their creation they are made up thousands or even millions of the creepy crawlies. They either form a body from tiny bodies or chose a majority that can represent it properly. So they can just meld and split without concern.

And in the bug and insect world, more often than not, the Queen is at the top. Pariah didn't count, he didn't even like the Hives. On the other limb, High Queen Phantom had created a clutch of her own.

Once she came into power, the Hives wish to fulfill her desires, as insect kingdom instincts demand and through newfound loyalty. They do so, to the detriment of everyone else.

I know I've been on about this for a while now and I'm being a hater but you're telling me SydCarmy was "always meant to be platonic" even though there are two seasons of writing making use of tried-and-true explicitly romantic tropes, themes and writing signals, and SydLuca is going to be romantic because...he was nice to her on screen for a few minutes?

I don't even care if people ship SydLuca, or if they just prefer it, but you can't honestly tell me that you believe Carmy was always meant to be a friend but Luca is an obvious love interest.

Just because Syd and Carmy haven't kissed or confessed their love to each other doesn't mean that isn't very obviously the direction this show is going. The Bear has already shown you who is endgame. It has shown you every episode of the show so far.

Honestly I really don't think The Bear fanbase understands this show or cares about these characters or the story being told here, which is unfortunate because this show is shockingly well-written in comparison to most shows right now, and we should be so grateful for it but all we're doing is complaining that the writers led us on by not making a ship canon fast enough. It's just. Sad.

once again i am comparing the difference between how jan and nace hold their own faces compared to how jan holds nace...

they're distorting their own faces with the force of their hands. they're in distress, they're in pain. they're both affecting their vision with their hands - jan is holding his eye open, nace is holding his closed. jan even has a finger in his mouth to open it.

jan's hand is gentle! he's cupping the side of nace's face rather than gripping it, there's no distortion of the skin. he's carefully avoiding nace's eyes and the reason we can't see them properly is because nace is choosing to look at jan. and mirroring jan's solo photo, his finger is almost in nace's mouth, but without distorting it.

what i'm basically saying is that in these photos, they're gentle with each other in ways that they're not gentle to themselves.

Wait wait wait - there's no boxing backstory in the novel? I haven't read the book so this is news to me. Now I'm truly intrigued because I've been thinking about why the past abuse was written in the framework of boxing? Why muay Thai (or more specifically, muay khao)? I know I'm too hung-up on the topic but I feel like what's being revealed about Pete's background is more than just the abuse. Like the fact that Pete's likely from a poor family and his father forced him to box because of money (which would add a whole another layer to the "he never won" reflection) because that's the usual reasoning when parents are asked why they let their kids fight as young as six or seven years old.

And then there's the whole transformation from scrutinized creature to human shaped hole.

It's so funny that two years ago I was like "okay cool, Pete knows how to throw a fist" whereas now I'm trying to rewrite his whole family saga because of a few lines.

First of all, let me start by saying that you are not, in fact, too hung-up on anything; your passion for Pete's backstory and Muay Thai is delightful to see whenever I log on here and it's the reason I often engage with your posts. It keeps my interest on the subject alive. Never stop sharing your thoughts on it, unless your own interest starts to dissipate. Now, I don't remember all the details, but the key points of Pete's backstory in the novel are as follows:

Pete's mother died when he was young,

He was basically raised by his grandparents, who remain alive until after Vegas and Pete become a couple and visit them on their island (so there's both a dtaa and a yaai, if I'm using the correct terms),

His father was still abusive to him,

At some point, he just left him and started a new family,

He was bullied at school because he was gay

That's all I remember. I'm not sure if his mother died before or after his father left to start a new family, but I'm really not in the mood to skim-read the novel to find out. What you're saying makes sense and it's possibly why his father forced him into boxing, besides his own inferior complex about never having won a match in his life. Honestly, I must thank whoever made those changes in Pete's backstory in the show, because without them, the most important connective tissue that exists between Vegas and Pete is lost. It's one of the reasons VP in the novels doesn't work for me; there's nothing for them to bond over besides... food, which is cool, don't get me wrong, we got it in the show as well. It's just not enough. And it's not just them having abusive fathers that connects them. It's the fact that they're both hunting dogs, as you put it in your meta post. It's the fact that their entire being circles around them being on a leash for their owner to use and abuse as they wish. It's just more evident with Pete because he's a bodyguard, but we all know it's true for Vegas, too. Making Pete a (past-)boxer is a brilliant choice for all the reasons the fandom (including you) has analyzed since episode 11 dropped and I'll never get tired of talking or reading about it. You're very much valid in being this influenced over a few lines.

it's the fact that they were both born with the weight of the entire world on their shoulders. it's the fact that they both lost their mothers young. it's the fact that neither of them had wanted to marry and have a child. it's the fact that neither of them were ready to become the queen of inys. it's the fact that they both stared down fýredel. it's the fact that glorian wanted to have a daughter if only so that she could finally have control of her own body, while sabran didn't want to have a daughter because she feared being cast aside or dying in childbirth. it's the fact that when sabran lost her daughter a statue of glorian was watching. it's the fact that they both wanted to be enough on their own, instead of having everyone focus on their future daughters. it's the fact that glorian named her daughter sabran and sabran named her daughter glorian. it's the fact that sabran was specifically named after glorian's daughter. it's the fact that sabran was called glorian shieldheart come again. it's the fact that both of them led their country through an age of fire. it's the fact that they both chose inys above it all. except that glorian continued the cycle and sabran ended it.

i'll be going about my day as normal but then i'll remember that fýredel called sabran 'seed of the shieldheart' and have a mini mental breakdown about it
