True Colours:
“I’m a good person. I help people. I’m a good person” Andy repeated as if it was her mantra. But secretly, Andy knew that it wasn’t the truth. She wasn’t a good person, she had far too much blood on her hands.
Andy’s current actions were completely contradicting her vocal affirmations. She had the man pinned up against the wall. The blade of her knife was lightly pressed into the nape of his neck. It wasn’t cutting through his skin.. well, not yet… He struggled underneath the pressure. Andy rolled her eyes before she slammed his head into the bricks behind him. Blood started to pool at the base of the inflicted head injury.
“I’m not a good person” she quietly admitted. This was the truth and she didn’t know if she was capable of ignoring the truth.  In her heart Andy knew that she was never a good person, she’d always been the one to skirt along the moral thin line of good and bad. Ever since she could reminder she was morally bad. Her first childhood memory was when she was six years old and had to steal from the local supermarket, since her father was being held on remand, once again.
“You’re a monster” He spat out as he realised that struggling wouldn’t do him any favours. Andy pressed her knife further against his neck. The cold silver blade broke through the skin. A small trickle of blood flowed from the cut.
Andy sighed in recognition, what he said was the truth.
“Yes I’m a monster” Andy cocked her head “But I’m one of my own making”.
Yes, Andy was a monster, but it wasn’t her father who turned her into one, nor was it any other man who abused and used her throughout her life. Neither was it the work she did for Queen and country. Andy made herself into a monster in order to protect herself.
With the quick flick of her wrist, she slit his throat open. Blood gushed from his neck. Andy stepped back as his body fell to the ground. Blood still flowed from his injury, as she wiped the blood of her knife on her jeans. Andy walked out of the alley and pulled the lapels of her leather jacket closer to her.
This was the night that Andy admitted to herself that maybe she was too far gone and will never be able to become a good person.
