servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 30 - bride
[ no general warnings apply, minus spoilers for ShB and EW ] [ timing: post-EW] [ from a verse written with @fell-court, featuring mentions of lorenza ]
Night had fallen. A blue light settled over the rooms of the cathedral, the moonlight tinted by the stained glass windows, even reaching into the dressing rooms in the Sanctum of the Twelve. Within one such room, Camellia sat seemingly calmly at a vanity, watching as her hair was pinned back with purple wing-like accessories by Cameron.
“...Is it rude of me to say I didn’t know if this day would ever come?” Cameron asked, his voice soft, breaking the silence.
“...Perhaps if I was anyone else. However, I cannot say I expected this to happen either.”
“And yet you were the one to propose.”
Cameron chuckled, taking a brush to straighten Camellia’s hair out. Camellia only gave a soft hum in response.
The day for Camellia to be wed to Lorenza- formally, at least, and not in a quiet and very private setting- had finally arrived. Their pairing was an unusual one, and not only due to the bride being a voidsent princess- but also for the fact that Camellia had always shunned such bonds before. She viewed them as pointless, doomed to fail, and experience had taught her to be wary of others trying to become close to her.

Yet this bond had formed nonetheless.
It had surprised most that Camellia had been the one to propose.
Truthfully, it had even surprised herself how bold she was. While the two of them had begun courting shortly after the journey to Ishgard, an Eternal Bond was meant to be something much more permanent; a show of devotion that would last lifetimes, symbolized by rings.
Camellia had never been someone certain enough of herself or others to think of such things. But shortly before the journey to the First- after watching the Scions have their souls taken, one by one- she had grown worried of becoming separated and having no way to tie herself to Lorenza, and before she had even fully thought through what she was doing, had begun crafting a ring.
Buying one seemed too impersonal for her tastes, and she wanted to be certain the fit and theme was right.
A ceremony was already held on the First, yes. But this one was a more proper one, with the fate of the world not resting on their shoulders in the process. The Endsinger was defeated, and the temporary ‘disbanding’ of the Scions allowed more room to breathe.

Well, some things were still pressing, but

“...Does this make you a princess consort, then?” Cameron asked after a moment.
“I would consider myself more the prince consort type. But
 I suppose so, yes.
Although, Cantarella has informed me that Princess Lorenza may not remain princess for certain- the void is ever changing
Regardless, she(?) will ever remain my princess.”
“It’s quite incredible that you refer to her(?) by title even now.”
“Habit, I suppose.” Camellia chuckled, closing her eyes. “...Lorenza. I suppose I have earned the right to refer to her(?) without her(?) title.”
“And yet I have this odd feeling that it won’t stop you,” Cameron remarked, setting the brush down.
“I would argue that my princess has a different meaning to it than to refer to her(?) as your highness,” Camellia responded, opening her eyes to look back at her brother. He smiled in amusement, moving to pick up a white lily resting on the vanity.
“That is true
And you’re much more fond of referring to her(?) as ‘your beloved’ when able to.”
“She(?) is one of the few people to be allowed the privilege.
And I am one of the fortunate few to be allowed to call her(?) that, in turn.”
“Love has made you soft, Lia. It’s a nice thing to see.” Cameron moved to the front of his sister, pinning the lily into her lapel. “...I’d ask if you’re nervous, but you’ve already had a ceremony before. This should be easy, right?”
“Hm. Somehow, the experience has not made it easier,” Camellia responded, rising from the bench to straighten the coat. “...The crowd does not bother me. To have this ceremony in front of others is of no matter. What does affect me is the idea of seeing my princess beside me once more- this time away from the scorching light of the First, and having been able to recover some from that ordeal.”
“Ah- you’re worried you’ll find her(?) too beautiful to speak.”
Camellia cleared her throat, looking away from Cameron. He smiled, shaking his head as he stepped back.
“...Truly, Lia. I don’t think most would believe anyone is capable of affecting you so greatly.”
“...Then they would be wrong.”
“They would, but you’ll be fine, alright?
I’ll be there beside you. And I think her(?) highness would think it’s quite endearing if you ended up unable to say a word
”
“Cameron,” Camellia said, her tone one of warning. Knowing the warning wasn’t one of any real consequence, though, Cameron laughed, smiling brightly.
“Camellia,” he playfully responded. “I’m right!
But you’ve practiced this enough times by yourself. You’ll be fine, really.”
The sound of a bell chiming rang throughout the room, and Cameron glanced over at the doors in surprise.
“Ah!” he exclaimed. “That must be time.”
Gaining no response, Cameron looked back over to his sister who was staring at the doors in silence. He gave a soft sigh, reaching out to take her gloved hand in his own and squeeze it reassuringly.
“...Come on. Your bride is waiting for you. And you wouldn’t want to keep a princess waiting, would you?”
Camellia hesitated before finally giving a nod, taking a deep breath to steady herself.
She knew it was unlike her to act so uncertain, but
Lorenza had a way of making her uncertain. Never in a harmful way, but she was always too mindful of her every word and action in her(?) presence- afraid of making a fool of herself, perhaps.

But she also knew that she(?) would never judge Camellia for such blunders. And this was hardly their first ceremony; it was simply
One in which both were in more comfortable states. And in Camellia’s opinion, a far more beautiful state, considering the way Lorenza’s wings had finally begun growing out again.
And as stated
She wouldn’t want to keep her princess waiting for long.
“Shall we?” Cameron asked, gesturing to the door.
Camellia nodded once more. “...We shall.”
It was, perhaps, a day of no real import to many others. But for Camellia, it would be a reminder of the steps forward she had taken to entwine her life with another’s-
And for once, the idea seemed much less scary than it may have in the past.

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 19 - late
[ post-ARR spoilers, implied murder ] [ timing: HW ]
Ishgard was a bitterly cold place, and its people were even more so. It wasn’t as though that fact about the people was new information to Cameron- they had lived in there for so many years prior, and spent much of their time being outcast by the other people within. To Cantarella, however, she hadn't had the chance to visit before- and so between the cold and the light bouncing off the surface of the snow, it was a bit much.
Oh, and the whole matter of how warily Ishgardians already viewed the Smith twins. Cantarella knew that it would be dangerous for her to be open about her presence here- though it wasn’t as if she had been particularly open with it before.
As a result, it was only late in the evenings when Camellia and Cameron had retired to their rooms that Cantarella was allowed out.
It was one such evening that they were within the Forgotten Knight, and Cantarella had left the shadows of Camellia, joining the two in Cameron’s room. They hadn’t yet been in Ishgard for too long, and the trip being sudden in the way that it was had left all of them feeling uneasy.
Well, Cantarella didn’t particularly have strong feelings; she knew that they would be safe regardless of what happened.
Oh, she would ensure it, and wouldn’t let what happened to Cicuta happen again.
Camellia had taken a seat on the bed as Cameron went over the items in his bag, making sure he was packed for the next day. House Fortemps had asked for their aid to make sure they would be accepted into Ishgard without issue, as it had been long enough that their previous status as servants held no real sway- particularly not when the house they served had fallen.

They were reluctant to separate- to the point that they had been staying in each other’s rooms, despite renting two- but Lord Edmont had asked for them to accompany both Lord Emmanellain and Lord Artoirel, and there was no reason for them to stay together. The immediate danger had passed, besides- and Ishgard wasn’t prone to listening in on the concerns of other city-states.
With his bag checked, Cameron sighed, pulling back. He still seemed nervous, Cantarella noted, and she could guess why

“Are you worried someone will come in?”
Cameron jolted at Cantarella’s voice. She wondered if he had even noticed her there, but couldn’t exactly blame him; she had a way of making herself less noticeable, even more so than the two of them. He looked over, hesitating, then nodded.
“...I
 I suppose I am, yes. It’s just
I don’t know if people will come looking, a-and
”
“And you’re concerned they’ll come after you and your sister.”
Cameron nodded once more, glancing over at Camellia. She sat silently, only watching the two of them.
“...Fine, then. I’ll ensure no one comes in.” Leaning back against the wall, Cantarella continued. “Rest, both of you. I don’t need the sleep.”
“Ah
Are you sure, Ella?” Cameron asked, hesitant.
“Yes. Now- hurry up. You have a long day tomorrow, don’t you? And the two of you won’t be able to stay together for long.”
“You’re right
” Cameron sighed. “...I hope you can keep Lia safe. I’ll try my best to come back soon, but I’m not sure how long these tasks are
”
“She’ll be fine,” Cantarella responded. “Your sister has more bite than bark, to be blunt. I wouldn’t be surprised if she comes back with the little lord’s head in a bag.”
“Cantarella.” Camellia glared at the voidsent from where she was seated on the bed. “Watch your tongue. I have no plans for such things- we are guests, and I would not harm a lord.”
“Unless at the request of your masters, hm? Oh, but he is dead now
So perhaps your bloodthirst is quelled for the moment?”
“Cantarella.”
“Both of you!” Cameron huffed, shaking his head. “No fighting- it’s far too late at night!”
Cantarella gave a hum in response, falling silent.
The silence lasted for only a few moments, before Camellia spoke up again.
“...Thank you.”
“...Not often you thank me,” Cantarella said, a smirk on her lips. “I’ll take the gratitude.”
“Perhaps you should do things worthy of gratitude more often, then.”
“Behave.” Cameron shook his head at the two of him, his tone disapproving. “...We’ll rest now. Just
If you need anything in the night, wake us, okay?
You don’t need to do everything alone.”
Cantarella nodded, settling against the wall to watch over the door. She’d watch over them tonight- and the night after, and the night after that, if necessary. Whatever made them feel at ease. Whatever kept them safe.

She wouldn’t want to lose a free meal so easily, after all.
(And certainly, that was all there was to it- no familial feelings of her own.)

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 14 - sanctuary
[ no general warnings apply ] [ pre-ARR ]
It was a frequent sight to see twin Viera within the Lemures’ headquarters, even for those who were new to the group. Ul’dah was a place that outcasted most, and the sight of two rabbit-eared people drew attention in particular- more attention than either had ever been comfortable with. As such, when the two were seeking to avoid both their master and the crowds, it was often they’d hide within the headquarters.
So when Drusilla spotted the two of them already within the halls early one morning, Cameron focusing carefully on his sewing as he sat partially curled on a couch, and Camellia leaning against a wall, watching over him, it didn’t particularly surprise her. No, the surprising thing was the hour- as it wasn’t too often they’d have the ability to slip away this early.
“Everythin’ alright there, you two?”
Cameron’s ears turned towards her- but he remained focused on his work, not commenting. However, Camellia looked over to the older reaper entirely, pausing before responding.
“Lady Drusilla,” she said, bowing her head respectfully. “We are fine. Master Archambault simply asked us to make ourselves sparse for a bit.”
“Your master, hmm? That bastard’s loss is our gain.” Drusilla took a seat, swinging her legs onto the table. Though Camellia gave a soft sigh at the sight, she didn’t try to correct her, only letting Drusilla continue. “Our doors will always be open to the two of you.”
“Pray do not let him overhear you calling him that. We would be the ones to be scolded
”
“Aye. I wouldn’t put the two of you in danger like that.”
A quiet fell over the room once more, other than the sound of Cameron’s needle pushing through leather. Drusilla cast a glance over at what he was making- it seemed like
 Gloves?
“...What’s that you’re makin’ there, lad?”
Cameron jolted at being addressed directly, carefully stopping his movements so as to not poke himself by accident. He looked up, hesitating before he responded. “Ah
 I
” He glanced down at the fabric in his hands, looking a bit nervous. “...I know that your work can be dangerous, and sometimes can damage clothes- but the scythe can be rough on the hands to hold bare, and so I
”
He hesitated, setting down the work that was in his hand before holding up a finished glove. “...I wanted to make sure you had a spare pair. You’ve- you’ve done so much for me and my sister, Lady Drusilla, and
I wanted to repay you in some way, since I’m no reaper
”

Oh. From how close the second glove was to being finished, this was clearly a project he had been working on for a bit- and though she wasn’t certain from just a quick look, the sizing looked perfect.
It wasn’t the first time Cameron had crafted something for the Lemures. He was fond of making sure they were stocked up on potions, bandages, and repairing any clothing that became damaged- but crafting an entire set of gloves from scratch for her, without much of a need for it? That was new.
“Cameron,” she started, taking her legs off the table to sit up more properly. “You know you don’t have to do that. You two are family to us, eh? And there ain’t no need to call me anythin’ like ‘lady’. Makes me feel older than I already am.”
That was evidently not the right thing to say, by the way Cameron’s ears drooped. Drusilla paused. “...All right, if you want to keep callin’ me that, that’s fine. But you’ve proved yourself a valuable member to us time and time again. And not every member of the family is the fightin’ type.”
“...Ah
” Cameron nodded, slowly, but it seemed there was still something on his mind. “...Then
Should I not have made the gloves?”
“Now, I didn’t say that,” Drusilla quickly cut in, realizing why he still seemed so upset. “There just ain’t any need to be so sentimental. I’d gladly accept a gift, but don’t feel you have to do it just out of some kind of obligation, eh?”
Finally, Cameron’s ears perked up once more, and Drusilla relaxed. He smiled- a bit nervous still, but undoubtedly much more calm than he was moments prior.
“...I’m grateful, then. A-And- I’ll try not to call you lady as much, L- Drusilla.” Cameron flushed a bit at making a mistake so quickly after saying he wouldn’t, but it only gained a smile from the older reaper. “...These should be done before we have to return to our master, and then
I can make sure they fit. If not- I can adjust them, and
”
“You and your sister always had an uncanny knack for sizin’, didn’t you? Both for people and for enemies. Wouldn’t be surprised to find those fit perfectly.”
“...As she says, Cameron,” Camellia commented finally from where she was still resting against the wall. “But perhaps you should focus on your work. Do recall what House Rosierionne taught us- Should you become too distracted during your craft, your craft will suffer for it.”
“R-Right!” Seeming much more at ease and determined now, Cameron picked up the glove from where he had set it down prior and set upon working on it once more.
This time, Drusilla was more than happy to let the silence be- and as she watched Cameron carefully carrying on in his sewing, she could only think of how lucky the Lemures were to have obtained these two family members.

servantverse flufftember 2024 day 13 - sun
[ no general warnings apply ] [ timing: pre-ARR ]
The sun was shining brightly over Ul'dah, and Cantarella was a bit miserable.
While she had little experience in most areas of Eorzea- these two twins had summoned her but recently, and didn't seem to venture out of this hot and dry city often- it seemed like the Source had a tendency to be bright. Overly so. Cantarella preferred to stick in the shadows wherever possible, but sometimes that wasn't an option.

Like now, as she was accompanying Cameron to the markets.
Their master- Camellia and Cameron's, that is, as Cantarella refused to bow to some mortal on the Source- was a man more miserable than Cantarella was currently. Any chance to avoid him was one to be taken, even if the journey to the markets had been his own request- especially so, perhaps- and Camellia had asked Cantarella to make sure Cameron wasn't in danger on the way
And how could she say ‘no’?
(Truthfully? Easily, if she wanted to. But Cameron reminded her of Cicuta, and it became much harder to say ‘no’ when she remembered her own brother.)
Cantarella knew Cameron wasn’t as helpless as Camellia seemed to believe, but it wasn’t her part to comment on such things. Instead, drawing on the younger man’s aether to stabilize her form in this bright sunlight, she followed behind dutifully
Though she couldn’t help but comment as she did so.
“I’m surprised your sister trusts me enough to accompany you here.”
Cameron looked back in surprise, his ears perking at her words. “Hm? How so?”
“Your blindfold is only for show,” Cantarella huffed, quickening her steps to walk alongside him instead of trailing behind. “And you know her better than most, so don’t play naive. She’s difficult, and everything has to be done her way- and she very much would prefer it if I didn’t do anything to change that.”
“Lia is just a bit stubborn,” Cameron responded, his tone apologetic. “She doesn’t mean any harm by it. You just, ah
”
“Tend to be too blunt? Yes, she reminds me of that every time I open my mouth.” Cantarella clicked her tongue in displeasure. “Which is truly a shame. If she’d let me threaten her victims more often-”
“Ella.” Cameron was quick to interrupt her, his voice hushed. “P- Please don’t talk about those things out here?”
“Right.” Cantarella sighed, shaking her head. “You lot are awfully stubborn about pretending to be pleasant. Really, if you all stopped with the needless pleasantries, this place would become so much more bearable
”
“...I
I don’t know that avoiding that topic is a ‘needless pleasantry’...”
Cantarella gave no response, and Cameron’s ears lowered as he realized this conversation wasn’t working to convince her in any way. A quiet fell over them for a few moments, and then he spoke up once more.
“...Is it really that different? Where you’re from, that is. You
 Haven’t spoken about it much.”
“...Hm.” Cantarella didn’t immediately respond with more than a hum. For a moment, Cameron worried that he had asked something too personal. “...It is. It wasn’t always, I suppose. But it hasn’t been the same for
However many years- it’s hard to keep track.”
“Hard
?” Cameron tilted his head. “Is there
No way of keeping track of time there?”
“Difficult to, when there’s no sun.” Cantarella squinted upwards at the light in the sky. “All darkness. Time has little meaning; we don’t age, and survival is all that matters.” She paused. “...We used to care. But what was the point? It was a world of nothing but shadow and death.”
“...Oh.” Cameron’s voice was soft. “I apologize, then. If it’s
 A sensitive subject.”
“...I can’t quite bring myself to care that much,” Cantarella responded, looking back to the path to the market. “Camellia wouldn’t let me go home easily, anyways.”
“I’m certain she would if you asked
”
“And who would look after you?” Cantarella glanced over to him- a young man full of enough aether to burst with light. It wasn’t evident to most, but she could sense it- the almost artificial sweetness of his aether. “You’d never survive on your own.”
“And now you sound like Lia,” Cameron said, sighing. “I’m not that defenseless
”
“...Hm
No, you aren’t,” Cantarella agreed. “But it gives Camellia peace of mind to have you looked after.”
Cameron didn’t respond to that.
“...She cares about you,” she added on. “And you know this.”
“...I do.” Cameron hesitantly nodded. “I just wish I could do more to help.”
“You’re learning to, aren’t you?”
Cameron looked over in surprise, his ears perking. Cantarella smiled- a sight not as rare on her as it was on her counterpart, but still uncommon to find not mocking. “So just keep working on that. Before long, you’ll be able to protect her just as she protects you.”
“...” Cameron turned his head away. “...I
 I hope so.”
“For now, however- if we don’t hurry, your sister may banish me back to the void. And while I can’t say I enjoy this place, it’s certainly less boring than the void.”
“R-Right!” Quickening his pace, Cameron moved to lead once more.
To Cantarella
It felt like an awfully long time since things had been this peaceful. As she watched Cameron hurry ahead of her, she was reminded of another figure long in the past- one with resemblance to herself, who would always push himself too far trying to help her.

There was no point stopping Cameron. She knew this. She only hoped that she’d be able to help look after him for a bit longer.

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 12 - plant
[ no general warnings apply ] [ timing: post-EW ]
“Lia, have you seen these flowers before?”
It had been a long day of gathering resources on the island Tataru had gifted them (well, perhaps ‘gifted’ wasn’t exactly the right word, as things were expected in return), and the twins had been enjoying the peace and quiet when Cameron had called Camellia over- and hearing his voice, she came over to examine the small, colourful blossoms he held in his hands.
Picking one up, she gave it a careful examination before setting it back down in Cameron’s hands and shaking her head. “I am afraid not. I have not seen them around the island before- perhaps they came from higher up?” Camellia’s gaze moved to the mountain that stood tall above their heads, and Cameron followed, tilting his head in thought.
“...Ah
Perhaps. It’s been quite windy here lately, hasn’t it? I wonder if there’s more of them up there.”
Camellia gave a soft hum- whether in agreement or something else, it was unclear, but she only watched for a moment before turning back to her work. She had been busying herself gathering wood for the coming week ahead, and had only stopped out of curiosity as to what Cameron was examining.
“...There’s been all sorts of strange plants here, hasn’t there?” Cameron continued, carefully cradling the flowers in his hands as he rose from where he was kneeling. “Even La Noscea doesn’t have these exact varieties.
I suppose that’s why we were sent here, though- to see all they had to offer
”
“Perhaps,” Camellia continued, picking up the discarded axe. “Do recall that we are here on a mission. Really- you were the one to ask for my aid in the first place
”
Her tone was lighter than the words implied, and Cameron huffed playfully, tucking the flowers into his bag. “Yes, yes
You don’t seem to mind, though. And it’s nice to get away from all the people, I know
”
“Hm.”
“...But you should take time to actually enjoy yourself.” Cameron brushed off his hands, turning to look at his sister as she worked to chop down the next tree. “And not just push through it
”
“I am enjoying myself plenty. I simply find it more enjoyable when my hands are busy.”
“Liaaa
!” Pouting, Cameron came over to block her path to the next tree. Camellia raised her eyebrows at him in amusement as he continued. “You and I both know you’re plenty capable of taking breaks
! Proper breaks. Please, at least make sure you don’t tire yourself out
”
“...Very well.” Camellia gave a soft chuckle, moving to step past him. “I will ensure I do not. However, to once more remind you, you asked for my aid; I am only here for you
”
“I know, but
!” Cameron hesitated, then reached out to place a hand on her arm. She glanced back at him. “Just
 Be careful, okay? And
”
He hesitated, then reached into his bag, pulling out one of the flowers. He reached up to tuck it into her hair gently- Camellia blinking in surprise at his movements.
“...And thank you. Really. For helping me with all this. It’s
Much more fun to have my sister with me here.”
Camellia paused, then sighed. With her free hand, she reached up to gently pat Cameron’s head, the smaller Viera’s ears perking in surprise.
“...Of course. I could not leave you alone on a deserted island, after all. However would you survive without my assistance?”
“Lia!”
With a rare laugh, one that only the wildlife would have the chance to overhear, Camellia returned to her work- with Cameron close behind, now pouting while he followed.

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 11 - tradition
[ spoilers for Endwalker locations ] [ timing: post-EW ]
Though the Smith twins didn’t have many traditions they upheld anymore, there was one that they had made sure to do every year since their return to Ishgard. That was, of course, to visit the ruins of House Rosierionne- or what remained there, at the least.
It wasn’t something they had been able to do before they were involved within the Dragonsong War personally, due to Ishgard having shut their doors to even the servants that lived there before. (Their house had fallen, after all; there was ‘no reason’ for them to be allowed there before being taken in by Lord Haurchefant.) Their visits since had involved careful consideration for what to bring as offerings to the departed.

It wasn’t as though this was something they had much experience in. Viera believed that the dead served their purpose, and those who died didn’t need to be mourned in any particular way- returning to the earth was enough, and while it wasn’t exactly shunned to give thoughts or offerings to the departed, every little thing mattered in the forest when it came to survival and there was rarely much to spare.
Still, it was felt as if this much was owed- so the night before they went, the two of them carefully gathered offerings to leave. Flowers seemed to be both the easiest and most suitable, causing little disruption or clutter to the surroundings, and so Cameron gathered a small amount of rosemary, and Camellia arranged it with the peonies she had gathered for her own contribution.
The two set out in the morning. The sun had barely begun to rise, and a chill hung in the air, not yet dispelled by the light of day. Cameron knelt down to place the bouquet upon where the entryway had once stood.
“...I hope you’re resting well,” Cameron said, his voice soft. “It’s been a busy year for us, but isn’t that always the case?
We’ve scarcely had a moment to rest since we joined the Scions, though I think Lia prefers it that way.”
Camellia gave a soft hum in response.
“We’ve gone to places we couldn’t even imagine when we were in your care. To the past, this time- which somehow felt even stranger than going to another world.” A soft chuckle escaped him. “And the moon.
There were all sorts of creations there I think you would’ve loved to learn about; giant sculptures meant to replicate trees in some aspects, and a place meant for beings much bigger than us
”
“And we have learned how to use materials unknown to most in our journeys,” Camellia continued. “We have not ceased in practicing what you have taught us, and seek to further our knowledge with each chance we can take. I am certain you would be proud, if you were here to see it.”
“We want to make you proud. Even now. We owe you
So much.” Cameron rose to his paws, his voice taking on a hint of sadness. “And we haven’t forgotten. All that we owe you, how we miss you
”
Camellia moved to stand beside Cameron, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. “...Regardless, we shall carry on. It is what you always would have wanted us to do, is it not?”
“...May you have found peace.” Cameron let out a soft sigh. “...We’ll talk to you again next year.”
With their yearly visit completed, the two turned to leave- and just as they did so, a warm breeze blew past them from where the house once stood.
Cameron glanced back. For a moment, he could’ve sworn he saw someone standing there- or their aether, or something- but it was gone as soon as he spotted it.
He hesitated, then smiled. “...Thank you. For everything.”

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 9 - name
[ no general warnings apply, minus implied Shadowbringers spoilers ] [ timing: post-EW ]
It wasn’t a question they hadn’t been asked before. This time, it was of much simpler curiosity than usual.
“...Did you two perhaps choose your own names?”
Camellia and Cameron looked up from unison from the books they were reading at the sound of G’raha’s voice. His finger was on a certain line on the page, and Camellia only needed to cast a quick glance at the book’s cover to figure out why this must have been brought up- it seemed the book was about Dalmasca, and the lands surrounding.
It seemed like the words must have slipped out without him thinking much on it, as before either of the twins could respond, his ears suddenly perked and he dropped the book to his lap, lifting a hand in
Perhaps some form of defense. “Ah! Pardon me. That was
A rather intimate question for me to ask, wasn’t it? Please, pay no heed-”
“Not in the way you may suspect,” Camellia responded easily, cutting him off. G’raha seemed taken aback by how quickly she replied- he must have thought this was a sensitive topic, but

“It is typical for Viera to take new names upon leaving the forests. As we were traversing lands quite far from home, our parents thought it best for us to choose our own in ways less
 Recognizable.”
“I
See.” G’raha paused, as if trying to decide whether his next words were appropriate for him to say.
Ultimately, it seemed that curiosity won over. “Do you
 Regret that choice?”

Oh. Now, that wasn’t a question they were often asked- though Camellia supposed it made sense, based on how long he- or, the other version of him- used an alias of his own. And the way he had responded when Cameron called his true name

“Not particularly.
I ask that you not share this with many others, but Viera typically are only allowed a proper name after their fourteenth nameday- the time we begin to show sexual characteristics, and choose an identity for ourselves. Prior to that, our features remain much the same across all kits.” Camellia knew it wasn’t exactly common for Viera to share this knowledge, but
G’raha wasn’t just anyone. She trusted him to not spread it around. “As we left upon our fourteenth nameday, we had not yet acquired adult names. ‘Camellia’ and ‘Cameron’ were what we were given, in the end.”
“I wanted a name that matched Lia’s,” Cameron added on. “She was named first, and after the tea plant.
Our last names were chosen by us, however.”
“‘Smith’, correct?”
“Indeed.” Camellia nodded. “We had been
Inspired by our guardians, although not our parents. The family in Ishgard that took us in. They were tradespeople- a name to honour them seemed as though it would be the most fitting choice, as we did not have surnames we kept prior.”
“Ah!” G’raha nodded in understanding. “I see. Then
I thank you for answering my questions. I apologize if it was abrupt
”
“Nonsense! You’re family to us.” Cameron’s tone was light, and Camellia found herself looking back at the book in her lap, a touch embarrassed at his bluntness. “And I don’t believe either of us mind answering these questions from family.
Right, Lia?”
“...You are correct.” In contrast to Cameron’s warmth, Camellia’s voice held a familiar coolness- though
Perhaps, just this once, it was softer than usual. “You are welcome to ask us whatever you are curious of. I cannot promise answers for everything, as we do not tend to share many things openly, but
 I do not mind.”
There was a pause before G’raha responded, and Camellia glanced over, worried that she had spoken too informally.
Seeing his expression, though

Oh, they had never commented on him being family before, had they? His ears were perked, eyes wide, and she could’ve sworn she saw almost the start of tears in his eyes- ah.
Perhaps that meant more to him than either of the twins had expected.
Camellia would never agree easily if she didn’t mean it, after all.
“I- I thank you. That
” G’raha’s voice showed only a hint of wavering, to his credit- it was only that both Camellia and Cameron were too practiced in noticing subtleties in the difference of tones. “That means
Much more to me than I can put into words.”
“G’raha
” Cameron smiled warmly at his embarrassment. “...Of course. Now, if you have anything else that you wonder about that we can answer- please, feel free to ask, alright?”
His curiosity sated for now- or perhaps, simply feeling too embarrassed to continue- G’raha nodded, picking up his book to resume reading. In quiet companionship, the twins resumed their own books as well, silence falling back over the group- but this time, a warmth present in it that wasn’t as notable before.

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 8 - breakfast
[ food mentions ] [ timing: post-EW ]
It was early in the morning when Cameron awoke- early enough that not even Camellia had awoken. That, however, was his goal, and hoping to not disturb her rest any more than necessary, he crept out from the room they shared.
The island was a gift from Tataru, and one that Cameron was quite thankful for. They had never really had a place to call their own, and having an entire plot of land that belonged to them was something they had never dreamed of happening- let alone so far away from the prying eyes of others. He knew Camellia would never have allowed herself to sleep in this much if that wasn’t the case. She had always been the one of the two of them to wake up earlier than everyone else, prepare for the day in silence, be certain that things like breakfast were waiting when others woke up

But just this once, he wanted to be the one to surprise her.
She had been so sweet to help him out at the island. She was never as interested in these things as he was, or so he thought- gardening, taking care of animals- but she still diligently helped look after it with him to the point that he wondered if she really did enjoy these as much as he
Or, perhaps, she was only doing it for his sake. Regardless, Cameron didn’t want to question it too strongly- the break was dearly needed, and she seemed happy, so who was he to wonder?
No, his time was much better spent letting Camellia know how much he appreciated her. And a good way to do that, he figured, would be to prepare her a meal this once. He knew she often claimed his cooking was far better than hers- though he would, in turn, always comment that she brewed a better cup of tea- and as a result, he was certain she’d enjoy this.
The early morning went by without much fuss. Occasionally Charon would wander in, the shoebill perching on the counter to stare at him, then wander off as slowly as he came- Cameron wondered if the scent of the baking drew him in, but he wasn’t certain if pixieberries and Ishgardian muffins were safe for a shoebill to ingest.
The breakfast was simple in concept, Pixieberry Tea and Royal Eggs. Cameron worried that it might be too heavy, as Camellia tended to favour a lighter meal to start the day, but he also knew Camellia would appreciate anything he did. He knew the tea was her favourite type- she enjoyed the way the tea was often sweet and tart from the berries, and the way the peppermint complimented them and added additional complexity- and the eggs, well

It was a meal they had often had when they were still servants of House Rosierionne. It had been quite some time since they could enjoy it together, and now seemed like the perfect time.
It was shortly before he finished that he heard shifting in the bed above, and his ears perked. It sounded as though Camellia was waking up- and sure enough, her pawsteps came down the stairs before long, Camellia not yet changed but having noticed Cameron was out of bed.
Cameron glanced over, the blindfold removed from his head and allowing him a rare, clear view of his sister eyeing him with somewhat weary confusion. He smiled gently, freeing a hand to gesture to the table.
“Please, have a seat! Breakfast will be done in just a moment.”
“Mh
 Breakfast?
Cameron, you did not need to go to all this effort.” Regardless of her words, Camellia moved to take a seat, watching her brother.
“Nonsense! You always go to all the effort for everyone else, don’t you? I think it’s only right that I do it for you this once.”
If Camellia had any more protests, she did not speak of them.

It was a peaceful morning. The sun slowly rising in the sky was just visible through the window, the scent of cooking in the air. After so long, they deserved a peaceful morning- or so Cameron thought, at the least.
But even if the day turned out to be less peaceful than expected
 This moment was enough.

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 7 - piano
[ ishgard restoration main storyline spoilers ] [ timing: post-HW ]
It had been quite a while since the last time Camellia had been asked to play the piano by someone.
Though it was a talent she knew from her days in Ishgard prior, it wasn’t one that was necessary for adventuring. Her previous master in Ul’dah had often requested for her to play music during their events- though Camellia suspected it was more the novelty of having a Viera play that made him ask every time, putting her on display like some rare creature in a cage- and as a result, she wasn’t that rusty.
However, being asked to perform for an event in Ishgard was not something she anticipated.
The reasoning had been simple; a concert to celebrate the end of the reconstruction effort. She had agreed without much thought, Cameron gently encouraging her and promising to be alongside her, but then it was announced that it would be a piano duet.
Any thoughts of fading into the background had left her head, and she had simply sighed and nodded.

But now that she was sitting at the piano
She wasn’t quite sure what to feel.
Her fingers stalled above the keys.
Did she really think she could pull off something like this? Being the focus of attention, being alongside Lord Francel, nobility and a man who surely was much more practiced in this than she ever could have been-
“Lia.”
A calm voice caused her gaze to raise from where she had been looking at the keys. She wasn’t sure what expression she had been wearing, but Cameron’s gentle smile informed her that he had already seen her moment of weakness.
Was it shame that she felt? She wasn’t quite sure.
“...Perhaps it’d be easier to practice as the duet it should be?”
He didn’t wait for her permission before taking a seat alongside her, shifting to gently press his weight into her side.
It was calming, and she knew that was why Cameron had done it. One deep breath; her fingers moved to rest over the opening keys.
“I suppose that would be wise. Shall we?”
“Of course.”
Camellia was grateful that he didn’t comment on her brushing his concern off. She appreciated it- and he knew it, and that was all she needed to know. To the others, she may have seemed cold, but Cameron would always understand why she chose her words the way she did.

That was enough.
Her fingers pressed down the keys, and Cameron quickly followed suit. The melody was slow at first, carefully reading the piece to know what key to next play, but quickly picked up speed and confidence. It didn’t require much thought- Camellia was not as out of practice as she was concerned- and she found her thoughts wandering as she settled into the song, comforted by the feeling of her brother so close nearby.
How long was it since she last felt this comfortable playing a song for others? It had been years. Back when they lived with House Rosierionne, she was certain. Cameron seated beside her even then, but both of them much smaller and much less experienced with the world. The warmth of a home and the gentle guidance of those who looked after the two of them. Learning the simplest of tunes, and slowly expanding their knowledge to the more complex- and the applause the twins had received the first time they played for the family in full.
Without thinking, Camellia shifted her weight to press into Cameron in turn.
The song was over quicker than she expected. She was rarely one to let her mind wander as she often found it made her lose track of time, but in this case
It was necessary, she thought. The tension had left her shoulders finally, and she let her fingers still over the keys, pressing the last notes. Cameron turned to look at her, smiling softly- as he always did.
“I think it’s best that you’re accompanying Lord Francel, Lia,” he said gently. “I’m afraid I wouldn’t have managed to do such a beautiful piece with such ease.”
Camellia knew that wasn’t true- that Cameron was just as capable as she was, if not more. But
She knew the words were for her benefit. Cameron was not a fool, and he had noted her worry, she was certain. As a result, she couldn’t scold him for speaking to himself so harshly. She only sighed, shaking her head-
And yet a faint smile appeared on her lips, a sight rarely seen. “...Thank you, Cameron.”
Truthfully, she doubted Lord Francel could hold a candle to the performance they had just done together.
She rarely played as well with others as she did with Cameron. They knew each other too well, and considering she would not have the chance to practice with Lord Francel before the date, she could only hope he would be as quick to learn the part as Cameron was.
It wasn’t her place to judge. The crowds would be pleased; that would be enough.

And she was certain her brother would be, as well.

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 20 - season
[ starlight celebration 2024 spoilers ] [ timing: post-EW ]
Camellia and Cameron had been to many places over the years of their travels. From the snowy region of Coerthas to the bottoms of the Ruby Sea, they had gone wherever necessary to achieve whatever goals they had at the time- and now that the Scions had planned to take a break from the public eye, there wasn’t much certainty in where to go next.

But a festival was as good of a place as any to go.
The Starlight Celebration was setting up in Gridania, and was in need of aid- and for two ex-servants without much else to occupy their time, it seemed as good of a place as any to start. It wasn’t as though they minded giving a hand to those running the festivities, anyways; Cameron in particular enjoyed helping out whoever possible

And Camellia didn’t mind helping when it was for the children especially.
With the extra hands, they were able to split the work; Camellia joined the celebrants in setting up the stalls, and Cameron joined Amh Garanjy in finding a new way to help the spirits of everyone involved. It wasn’t long before between the combined efforts of the twins, a pair of children, and Amh Garanjy, the marketplace was set up- and Cameron approached Camellia with a warm mug of kinderpunsch in hand.
“Lia!” His smile was bright as he held out the cup. “You’ve done well. Why don’t you come take a break? I made sure to save some of the mulled punch for you.”
“Mh, I suppose my aid is likely to be denied by the celebrants past this point
Very well.” Camellia nodded, reaching out to take the cup from him. “Will you be joining me?”
“Of course!”
The two of them found seats at a small table off to the side of the stalls- Cameron stopping to pick up a mug of kinderpunsch for himself on the way- and settled to watch the people pass.
The markets, now that they were open, were quite busy; people were passing through to buy gifts for their loved ones, or see what was on sale for themselves. For Cameron and Camellia, there wasn’t much they wanted- and the company, for the moment, was enough.
“...Do you remember when we first came to the Starlight Celebration?”
Camellia glanced over at her brother as he spoke, her hands holding a mug to warm them up. After a moment, she nodded, returning her gaze to the crowds passing.
“You were afraid of the celebrants, if I recall correctly. You thought the red that the knights were garbed in was jarring, and were uncertain how to feel about the noise of the festivities.”
“You weren’t much better!” Cameron protested, ears drooping. “You were hiding behind Mistress Auvelle.”
“I was not quivering like a newly-hatched Chocobo,” Camellia responded. “...But you are not incorrect. It was quite a change from Garlemald, and we had nothing similar to those festivities back home.”
Cameron sighed. He fell silent for a moment, then continued, quieter than before. “...They were kind to us, even so. They were patient. And they brought us gifts, even though we didn’t have anything to give them in return.”
“Your first cooking knife, was it not?
One crafted to be the perfect size for you. We were still quite small
”
“Mhm!” Cameron smiled, his ears perking once more. “And they gave you a mortar, didn’t they? You picked up alchemy quite quickly, if I remember right. I remember seeing how proud Master Cyrix was of you when you made your first potion.”
“...They did indeed.”
A quiet fell over them once more, briefly.
“...It’s been nice. It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve had the time to come and help out like this- not since we were newly branded as adventurers
”
Camellia hummed in response.
“...It’s not bad to just
Go around the cities and help people, from time to time. And the children appreciate it. It feels nice to help in these small ways. Doesn’t it?”
“...It does.”
Cameron looked up, peering through the trees at the sky. It was a starry night, though it was difficult to see through the blindfold; between that and the way his vision reacted to the surrounding aether, the lights were little more than smeared dots, too distant for him to make out. “Maybe we should do this more often.
When we have time to, at least. I’ve missed not having the weight of the world on our shoulders.”
“I would not be against that.”

For a bit longer, they’d sit in peaceful silence, watching the crowds pass. It was nice to not be part of those crowds for once, Cameron thought. Sometimes, a break was needed. And it seemed that they’d finally get one.

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 15 - tired
[ brief mentions of attempts to sleep, but no actual depictions nor descriptions of either falling asleep or tiredness ] [ timing: HW ]
Nights in Ishgard were cold. Even having grown up in the mountains, Cameron could not say he was used to the chill that set in overnight. The inn rooms were poorly suited to the climate, and he worried that having the fire on all night would cause safety issues- but the cold made it difficult for him to sleep, and Cameron knew he would have to get up before long.
He attempted a number of things first. More blankets- which would have helped, if not for the fact the inn they were staying at was a bit on the cheaper end and didn't have much to offer their patrons. Setting up the fire for a little bit, letting the room warm up, and then putting it out. He almost managed to sleep then- but was once more bothered by the cold before long.

It seemed sleep truly was futile here without a better source of warmth. So, steeling himself for her reaction, Cameron crept out of bed and down the hall to knock on Camellia's room.
It didn’t take long for the door to swing open, revealing Camellia dressed in a white nightgown that nearly reached her paws. She seemed
Not as tired as expected, but Cameron knew she often had troubles sleeping- it was a reason he didn’t mind interrupting.
“...Cameron?” Camellia asked, her voice quiet. “Why are you still awake
?”
“I- I-It’s cold,” Cameron responded, averting his gaze. He felt a bit strange with his bandages off, but there was no point sleeping with them on. “I
I can’t get to sleep, and I was wondering if
”
He trailed off, but Camellia only paused for a moment before sighing and stepping aside, gesturing into the room. “...Hurry, then. I would prefer not to disturb any others.”
Cameron’s ears perked up at her acceptance, and he quickly followed her into the room, Camellia closing the door behind him. Her room wasn’t much warmer than his own, but that wasn’t the reason he chose to seek her out. No- Camellia simply had a higher base temperature than him, and he knew she wouldn’t be able to deny him the chance for warmth.

It wasn’t as though it was uncommon for Cameron to request this when it was cold, anyways. He was always more sensitive to temperature fluctuations as a result of his aether imbalance. It was something about his body finding it difficult to regulate temperature when it already struggled with the excess of light- though neither were entirely sure how it worked.
As such, since Camellia was already used to this kind of request, she didn’t waste much time in moving to put away the writing she was working on and to blow the candle out upon the desk. Cameron took a seat on the edge of the bed, watching as she packed away the few things she had left out for the next day’s journey.
“...Thank you,” Cameron said softly after a moment of silence. “I know we aren’t kits anymore, but- Ishgard is so cold these days.”
“The Calamity certainly changed these lands,” Camellia replied, hardly sparing him a glance. “And Ishgard had been in a state of struggle even prior. It is to be expected that they have not adjusted well.”
“It makes sense, yes
I wish there was more we could do to help.”
“...Cameron.” Camellia sighed, now coming to where he sat on the bed. “You are ever too kind. We are aiding where we can, are we not? And besides that- we have our own burdens to carry. Do not stress yourself with the work of others.”
Cameron’s ears lowered at her words, and Camellia paused before reaching out to gently pat his head. “...Your kindness is a virtue, but you should not needlessly tire yourself. You cannot help others if you do not help yourself.”
“...Okay.” Cameron nodded, and Camellia withdrew her hand. “It’s
 Late, anyways
 We should get some sleep.”
“We should, yes.”
Camellia stepped back to let Cameron rise from the bed, and he moved to climb in, his sister shortly following. A silence briefly fell over them, before Cameron spoke up once more.
“...Thank you, Lia.”
Camellia gave a soft hum. “...You have already thanked me once. There is hardly any need to again.”
“Right
”
“...Goodnight, Cameron.”
“...Goodnight.”

servantverse fluffcember 2024 day 10 - patience
[ no general warnings apply, minus Endwalker 89-90 spoilers ] [ timing: post-EW ]
It took time for Camellia to heal after they returned from Ultima Thule. During that time, Cameron told her that under no circumstances was she to return to her usual work- that she needed to be cautious with her wounds, and not injure herself any further. For once, Camellia seemed mindful of this fact, and resigned herself to staying in bed without protest.

Well
 Without too many protests.
The time spent pushing into the Endsinger’s nest had taken its toll on everyone involved- Camellia the most, yes, but Cameron as well. It was often that Camellia would comment that he should be resting as well, or at least allow her to help- comments that Cameron would wave off each time without fail, telling her simply, “You can help when you feel better.”
Cameron would never leave her alone for long, though. He knew that whilst she wouldn’t readily admit it, Camellia could
Often be the lonely type. So while he did make sure that he was handling what he could to help lessen the other Scions’ burdens whilst his sister was recovering, he also made sure to take time to visit her.
The visits were often spent in peaceful silence as Cameron read, and today seemed to be no different, except

“...Cameron
Are you still upset with me?”
Cameron looked up in surprise as his sister, sitting at the edge of the bed, spoke. It wasn’t often she was the one to speak first during these visits, and
Particularly not about those types of matters. He could’ve asked her what she meant, yes, but he had a suspicion it was towards her stunt during the Endsinger’s initial attack- the fact that Camellia had forced Cameron to teleport away, leaving her alone to face the Endsinger.

He couldn’t say that it wasn’t something that upset him to remember, but the initial anger had passed. A sigh escaped his lips before he responded.
“...Not in the same way.” He was careful to choose his words; Camellia was still healing, and he didn’t want to make her feel worse- not when he and Alisaie had already scolded her for her reckless actions. “I
I understand why you did that, Lia, but you
You have to understand my side of things. I was forced to wait as you were alone there- only to learn you weren’t. That Zenos was
” He hesitated, then shook his head, turning away. “And then
You came back, and we weren’t certain if you’d survive. Me and Sir Alphinaud were healing you for- so long before you opened your eyes, or stabilized, or
”
Camellia waited for him to continue, but no more words came out. After a moment’s pause, she quietly responded. “I am sorry, Cameron, but I do not regret what I did. I would do it again.”
“...I know you would. That’s why I’m upset. I felt
 Powerless, but I know
I know I wouldn’t have been of help there.”
“Cameron.” Camellia’s voice was gentle; a tone reserved for him. “You are not powerless. Were it not for you, I would not have made it this far.”
Cameron’s gaze returned to her, and a silence fell over the room. A few minutes passed with neither of them saying a word.
“...I suppose if nothing else
” Cameron paused. “...We’re both here, in the end. And
That’s all I can really ask for.”
“I am here,” Camellia responded softly. “And I will not be going anywhere.
Not without you. We have spent this long together; I hope that I never must abandon you again.”
Cameron hesitated before rising to his paws. For a moment, he saw Camellia’s ears twitch back- a moment of uncertainty in her expression- and then he moved towards the bed she was resting in, taking a seat on the edge.
“...Thank you.”
Knowing her brother wasn’t planning on leaving her anytime soon, Camellia relaxed, shifting to sit closer to Cameron and rest her head against his own.
“...I highly doubt you would allow me to leave the bed for long within the immediate future, besides.”
That managed to get a soft laugh from him. “Patience, Lia. With me and Sir Alphinaud’s aid, you’ll be healed before long.”
