SHAUN PROULX interview with Mani Nasry on SIRIUS XM Radio from MANI NASRY on Vimeo.
Shaun Proulx is one of the most versatile talents in media and entertainment today.
His writing has been published in the best-selling Simple Reminders, (83-week bestseller) and he has made come true a top personal and professional dream: Oprah Winfrey joined Shaun for a twenty-minute conversation about the power of a first step, and it was an chance for Shaun to thank Oprah for the powerful impact she has made in his life.
Shaun in conversation with a host of stars, including Betty White, Liza Minnelli, Lady Gaga, Rosie O’Donnell, and Cindy Lauper. His foray into documentary film-making for Global TV.
MANI NASRY BIO
At the young age of 10, mani Nasry already knew he had a passion for the performing arts. He started off as a dancer at various events and weddings in the city of Montreal, Quebec. Following this, Mani performed in plays opening up a whole community of arts, theatre, and cinema. Nasry’s high school theatre awards are a testament to his love for creativity and performing. Soon after graduating from Rosedale Heights Secondary School, he set off to the heart of New York & Los Angeles to learn the art of acting.
Mani began by playing various challenging roles in a various short films from colleges & Universities such as Sheridan, Humber, Ryerson & York University. He also took acting courses at Equity Showcase theatre before heading to New York, where he studied with Canadian star of stage, screen and television such as Rosemary Dunsmore who has been nominated for four Geminis and three Doras. He also trained with Bernadette Jones, David Smuckler, Marianne McUsac, Miriam Lawrence, Louise Nolan, Kenneth McGregor, Tony Pearce and many more.
Mani got his first start in a $5.25 million dollar film called The Glow modeled after Rosemary’s Baby. The cast of veteran actors, included Hal Linden, Dina Merrill, Grace Zabriskie and Joseph Campanella. Mani’s character, Jorge, plays across the leading actors Dean Cain (Superman on the “Lois & Clark” series) & Portia de Rossi (Nelle on “Ally McBeal”).
REFERENCE LETTER
He was cast as “Crunch the Cougar” in a T.V Series called Radio Free Roscoe. This is what the Executive Producer had to say about Mani’s performance:
“I recently cast Mani Nasry on Radio Free Roscoe. He was to play the school mascot, Crunch The Cougar. Mani was called in to audition the day before shooting an episode, the actor we planned to use lacked the skill and spirit necessary for the role but Mani was incredible to work with. He studied the script and had valuable insights and ideas for his performance. He brought something unique to what could’ve been a generic role. Crunch came alive. The day of the shoot, he worked out some fantastic Martial Arts choreography and quickly learned some dance steps. On the set, he worked great with the cast and the director and made the mascot feel like a character with depth. He’s a talented and versatile actor who’s serious about his craft.” – Douglas McRobb, Executive Producer
After enrolling at HB STUDIO and while studying at the Herbert Berghof Acting Studio in New York, Mani gained valuable experience to nurture his enthusiastic passion for acting and filmmaking. This enthusiasm proved very helpful as he started to venture out into the production community in New York & Hollywood. While working in various capacities, such as being a director and a producer, Mani’s sensibility for a cinematic language became more noticeable and this swayed him to pursue film making as a full-time endeavor after graduating with a BFA in film studies from Ryerson University. Having developed a professional relationship with industry experts, Mani decided to make his own films and have an opportunity to work with selective filmmakers.
Mani just finished playing the lead in a 35MM film called Galaxy Donuts with ACTRA President, David Sparrow, and is currently wrapping up his new film called The Babysitter with TIFF Rising star Katie Boland & Shawn Lawrence, playing the lead role of Ryan, a character who finds himself unemployed, in debt and with his wife Katie leaving him behind. He also plays a bank robber in a film calledIn The Pin We Trust, which is coming out soon, the film is currently being edited by a lifetime achievement award editor Ron Wisman Sr.
Mani has worked in the film, television and theatre industry for more than 20 years, has been on a number of ACTRA sets and numerous acting classes. He is a full ACTRA member in excellent standing.

Day 1 Bangtao Beach Phuket
As predicted we all slept well and didn’t wake until 9.30.This then necessitated a dash to breakfast which turned out to be plentiful and varied,if not cordon bleu.We had 2 important jobs to do this morning:the first was to engineer our room swap.Although everywhere looked better in daylight we felt confident that G and As room was a much better set up than ours. The rooms were bigger, didn’t smell damp, was set in a pretty, cultivated garden area and, crucially, had a bath.Fortunately the hotel management were one step ahead of us and offered us a room across the garden from the others. We had to accept this “downgrade” but after this our luggage was moved over with no fuss and it is miles better.
The second job was our appointment with Mr Nook(I think this was his first name) our local agent from Destination Asia.Mr Nook has embraced modern technology and had already made contact several times via WhatsApp,to confirm his visit, then remind me and then to tell me he had arrived. We needed to confirm our departure and internal flight arrangements with him and also to arrange some excursions that we had decided upon.Unfortunately over dinner the previous night Alec had drawn our attention to a news story that was tragic but which had completely passed us by(though I did subsequently find some fairly lengthy articles on The Guardian online).Only last week 2 tourist boats sank in high seas off Phuket and over 40 Chinese tourists were drowned. This was on the very boat trip that we had planned to go on which as you can imagine was more than slightly off-putting.Fortunately Mr Nook tackled this issue head on and, despite being very difficult to understand, told us he would not let us book any boat trips involving the open sea.We were not clear whether they had all been cancelled or whether he was just concerned for our safety.Throughout our chat he kept sending me WhatsApp messages so that by the end I had 21! He was particularly keen for us to become familiar with Windguru and was encouraging us to check wind speeds and rain forecast. In the end we booked a more local boat trip to James Bond island for snorkelling and kayaking(with G to sit out the latter, not having forgiven me for almost getting us stuck in a Vietnamese cave). He assured us the the marine police were now watching the port and would not let overcrowded boats to sea,nor indeed any if the forecast was poor.We also booked to visit an elephant sanctuary which does not chain up the elephants or allow you to ride them-tripadvisor reviews are ecstatic about the experience of getting in the water to wash them so we have high hopes.Mr Nook kept apologising for the weather(which to be honest has been pretty good-a bit cloudy but v little rain so far) and recommended a few beaches for when Windguru had cause for optimism.Im unclear how much to rely on his advice though as his favourite beach appears to have been closed to public access for a good 2 years!
The rest of the morning was spent by the lovely pool-the hotel is clearly not full so we were able to grab a spot.I had continued to feel duped by being told the the hotel was on a sandy beach as hitherto there had appeared to be no beach at all. However after our perfect holiday lunch of club sandwich and chips the tide had retreated and we were able to walk along the beautiful beach crossing creeks(nb for later) and watching local fishermen at work.
After a regroup we went out to explore the strip of shops and buy some supplies from the 7-11 as recommended by Mr Nook.He was very keen that we should have banana or papaya before bed to keep us regular. We bought the mandatory holiday football and biff bat set.We also calledin to some local tailors as I would like a work suit made and I’m trying to encourage Iain to do the same, tho he is reluctant to think about work.G has already set a tailor to work on a skirt whose Burberryesque fabric she spotted in a window.Emmie is keen that I should share out the work between the 2 shops that we spoke to but that seems like unnecessary hard work. This little wander also involved following signs to a crazy golf course-a firm family favourite if you don’t include me! This turned out to be a very elaborate affair for which you have to buy a day pass which is pretty pricey despite including a drink and cold towels! I suspect it won’t be long before the family is battling over its 18 holes.
It was then back to the room before changing for dinner and heading for a cafe we had spotted earlier where we were fed well for about half the price of the UK
Then back for bed though not before Alec had advised us of another local news story(he seems to keep a more careful eye on the news here than at home!).This time there was a crocodile on the loose and it had been tracked by drone and sightings by members of the public to our very beach! It was felt to be hiding in one of the creeks that we had blithely crossed earlier in the day.Fortunately we woke to the news that at 4.30am it had been caught in a specially designed trap that had been left out.We are none the wiser as to where it had come from as there should be none in the wild in Phuket!
