Every version of you
Adam is packing his things.
He is fucking packing his goddamned things to move to another city, to another state, and Ronan is staying behind.
Adam is leaving tommorow and Ronan refuses to think what that really means.
He knows that he should have expected this. He has known that Adam's plans involved leaving Henrietta and everything in for a long time but the problem is that Ronan is afraid that maybe he is laying somewhere among those.
The part of him, the not so selfish one, the one that has watched Adam struggling in this town for months, for years, the one that has seen Adam killing himself to be able to ensure a different future, a possibility of a different future, is incredibly proud and really, Adam being happy is everything Ronan has ever wished for.
But there is a piece of his heart that is already longing, a piece of his heart that he knows will be stolen away by Adam the moment he closes the door of his old and crappy car.
The thing is that by now he should have been used to longing for the boy with the high cheekbones and the magnetically beautiful hands. He should be an expert.
He had to hide his feelings for so long, try to conceal them behind stares full of want, behind accidental brushes of hands, behind fake sharp words and cold shoulders.
He is way too familiar with the feeling of wanting something so much that it consumes you, wanting it so much that is the only thing you can think about, wanting something more so much but not being able to do anything about it for you do not want to lose what you already have.
Really, he knows what longing for Adam Parrish feels like.
It is just that now, now that he knows what being able to have him feels like, he is not sure he can survive going back.
He watches as Adam puts the last of his things that had been left wandering around the Barns for the last year neatly into his large suitcase, he watches as he checks once, twice, for anything forgotten inside the drawers, he watches as he takes one small sized photograph (the one that Gansey took of them last summer, Chainsaw sitting lightly on one of Adam's shoulders, while Adam is whispering something in Ronan's ears and Ronan's cheeks are bright with colour) from the wall above the bed where it was hunging along with a handful of others and places it carefully inside his backpack.
He feels like there are so much to be said and he doesn't know where to start.
He wants to cry and scream and shout and beg for Adam to stay with him but most of all he wants Adam to be happy and if that means that he can't be a part of his happiness anymore he will have to fucking deal with it.
When Adam finally zips up the last one of his bags and places it in the corner of the door of Ronan's bedroom, he looks up, his soft gaze meeting Ronan's one and tries a half smile.
"I think I'm done."
Don't leave me, Ronan wants to say but he doesn't.
He knows better.
"Fuck yeah you are, Parrish. Ready for your Harvard fucking welcome party all the other nerdy fuckers are going to host for you."
Please
Adam smile turns a bit more genuine and a little more pained at the same time. Ronan knows that by now he can see through his words that try to fake indifference, through his cold gaze trained not to show a bit of the emotions that are burning inside his heart.
He moves a step closer to Ronan.
He opens his mouth slightly, as if to say something, closes it again, frowns a bit.
Ronan just watches from where he is leaning to the doorframe, not trusting himself to speak, to say anything that will not sound too much like come back.
Adam makes another step forward and frowns again and Ronan tries his best to fake a smirk, a smirk that has formed between his lips thousands of times before so faking it for once should be easy. It isn't.
"Cat got your tongue, Parrish?" God. He is not even fooling himself.
He doesn't have time to think about it further because Adam breaks first.
"You fucker," Adam chokes out and then his hands are wrapping themselves around Ronan's back, his nose hiding perfectly beneath his neck, his whole body coming onto Ronan with such a force that he is fully pressed against the door.
Ronan doesn't even think twice before he reciprocates, clinging onto Adam desperately, his hands locking strongly just above his waist and almost his whole face burried inside of Adam's curles.
"I'll miss you," Adam says after a moment and Ronan doesn't remember if he even has the time to say it back before he is pressing his lips against Adam's like life depends on it.
Adam responds hungrily his one palm leaving Ronan's back in order to rest on the back of his neck like it belongs there, fingers digging through soft skin, making Ronan leave a moan that he doesn't even want to try and hide.
Ronan guides them to the bed, to the bed that had been their bed for so long, and then one leg is pressed between Adam's, breaths coming out rugged and unsteady, quiet moans filling out the whole room and it's Adam, Adam, Adam and nothing else and for a moment Ronan lets himself forget that he will have to say goodbye to this, to him, for months.
They lay there for a long while after, limbs tangled together, nose against nose, not being able to tell where the one stops and the other starts, and if Adam notices that Ronan's eyes are begging to turn water he doesn't say a thing.
It feels too fragile of a situation, too intimate and Ronan is afraid that a single blink of his eyes, a too loud breath can break the spell, destroy the pure perfection of this moment, this moment where it is just him and Adam and nothing in between them, them and nothing more.
He brings one of his thumbs to trace softly the outline of Adam's eyebrow and Adam's eyes close in contentment, his quiet and even breathing hitching a tiny bit then.
Adam brings Ronan's hand out of his face and enterwhines their fingers together, bringing his torso closer to Ronan in order to press a promise of a kiss just in the corner of Ronan's mouth.
Holy fuck , Ronan thinks, holy fuck I'm far too gone.
Ronan follows his example, putting one free palm to Adam's neck right beneath his ear to bring him closer and bites softly his bottom lip.
I love you
The stay just like that for a little while more, exchanging nothing but glances. They don't speak, they don't need to.
But Ronan can sense that Adam thoughts are rising, he can recognize all to well the little frown on his forehead, the way he keeps his eyes closed a second longer after he blinks, the way his smile turnes from genuine to unsure.
"Hmm?" he asks, because he needs to know what Adam is thinking, now probably more than ever and because he wants the careless, the repulsive version of Adam for as long as they have left.
"Do you--Is there--"
Adam doesn't finish. He just closes his eyes furiously, thinks a bit more and then skakes his head.
"No," he says then, "I can't ask you of this. I'm sorry."
Ronan brings Adam's head up so that their eyes are locked with the helps of his fingers.
"Anything, Adam." he tells him, because it's true.
Adam's voice when he speaks is barely even a whisper,
"Is there any version of you that could come to Cambridge with me?"
Ronan melts. This is what he needed to hear. There is no other sentence in the world that could break down all the insecurity, all the pain that had been hunting him for the past few days, no other sentence that could possibly make it so clear in the air that Adam wants him too, he will miss him, he wants Ronan threre with him.
Yes, he wants to say, of course there is.
He wants to kiss Adam again, to confirm that he would come to Cambridge right now if he wants him to, that he would leave his old life in a second for him, that there is no life in the first place if they are not together.
He wants to seal Adam's fears with promises, to act like there was not ever another choice but this.
But Ronan is not a liar.
And he knows that while Adam craves for change Ronan has built his life half in the comfort of the known and the other half in dreams.
Ronan has spent half his life living a perfect life and the other half trying to get back to it.
Adam though, Adam has spent probably the whole number of his living days fighting with everyone and everything around him, fighting with himself most of all, to able to change, to grow, to find something better that what he already had.
Adam has spent his whole life fighting for a future where he could start living instead of surviving.
Adam needs change. Ronan is not sure he has learned how to accept it.
But he will try because he has to. Because if what he needs to do to keep Adam Parrish in his life is changing he sure as hell will try.
He can't promise Adam that he will he able to follow him everywhere but he is able to promise that he will always be there when he decides to come back.
Is there any version of you that could come to Cambridge with me?
"Maybe," he says instead, pressing his body even closer to Adam's so that his head is resting on his chest, his mouth already finding its way somewhere along his neck. "Maybe."
Adam nods, then nods again and a soft, a tiny, barely-there smile is playing on his lips and his heartbeat is steady and comforting under Ronan's ear, and his hands are making circles, tracing the ink on his bare back, and his eyes are closed but Ronan can still see the setting sun reflecting on them.
Maybe, Ronan thinks, is good enough for them both.

A Little Piece of You
Oh shit, haha! Forgot to put a preview here. Hi! I’m alive! Have been busy writing for my other WIPs but wanted to get this out here bc I love you guys and also this was a cute af soulmate au. Thanks to @insanemarshmallow for the wonderful explanation of this chibi soulmate AU! Also god bless the settphel pairing of league of legends. It gave me the right amount of inspiration for a cute and angtsy oneshot :D
For a child, it's a wondrous thought the one of knowing you would one day find a soulmate. Even more so when you constantly saw it everywhere you went. People going about their lives with cute tiny versions of that one person that belonged with them and whom they were to spend the rest of their lives with. It was a fairytale on its own. One that became yours to live once you turned eighteen and that little piece of them came to you. It was a strange thing to see it happen, but just as great as you thought it'd be when a tiny version of your soulmate hatched from its egg. It had been born alongside you, a reminder that you, too, had someone waiting for you once you grew. You took care of that egg when young knowing how precious it was after hearing so many stories of happily ever afters. And now you finally had it. Alive.
The first thing that came out of the shell when it broke were red feathers. They poked out somewhat matted and ruffled as it finally emerged and huge amber eyes met yours. His tiny hands ruffled his dark blonde hair back. Chills ran down him as he shook himself out of his stupor and traveled from his head all the way to his toes and tiny wings, sprouting at the end like a blown-up balloon. He was adorable. And the first and only thing he said was his name: Keigo. Finally, you had your very own soulmate!
But...the experience of having a soulmate was tiring to say the least.
You didn't know if it was just Keigo, but taking care of this particular red bird was a full-time job. Quirks were already a problem to deal with in and of themselves. But that the small part of your soulmate's soul could readily use those wings of his to fly all around your house was a bigger problem in itself. When you got him at first you thought about keeping him in a cage whenever you had to go out and couldn't take him with you. The first few times, though, you noted how sad he was when you came home. The way he clung to you every time you let him out and how those massive tears welled up in his eyes broke you inside. You threw that cage away after a week of having it. Having no place to keep him however meant that you needed to teach him to be careful. If Keigo wanted to be free, he needed to be careful lest he be taken away or hurt. Little Keigo didn't take that lesson fully to heart until after a little incident with a cat. After that, he would stay close to you whenever you took him outside with you. It took almost a full year to get used to him, but once you did, it was like you two had been together for your whole life.
Little Keigo was fun to be around with, always enjoying the things you did with him. His taste for chicken got you to learn plenty of new recipes. He slept soundly with you, his little hands always cradling your thumb when he slept in the palm of your hand. And those feathers. You kind of figured what his Quirk was simply by the way he would control all those feathers on his crimson wings. Thing was that he would try to help you at times with things a little too heavy for him which was both worrying and sweet in equal measures.
Sadly not everything was nice. Not long after he was born did you notice that he began showing signs of pain. Always different places but very visibly hurting. Like someone was hitting or hurting him somehow. You knew the wounds wouldn't show, but seeing him always tired and in pain for days on end would cause your heart to ache to no end. There were also times when his feathers would simply fall with no explanation. It wasn't him controlling them either. They would simply fall and turn a dark brown like petals falling from flowers. And in a way, it was, because when that happened, it would take several days for new ones to grow. Although you were saddened that he was grumpy and glum from being unable to fly, a part of you was also glad. Only when his feathers fell like that did he ever seem to take any breaks and rest.
'It's your soulmate,' your mother said when you asked her. 'He's reacting to the soul bond between them. There's nothing you can do except wait it out with him.'
And it's exactly what you did. You never questioned it nor chastised him. You knew it wouldn't serve any purpose. Instead, you took care that Keigo wouldn't suffer anymore from your end than his counterpart was already going through. It still hurt though, seeing him hurting. But what stung your heart the most was the way that sometimes tears would just spring from him out of the blue. It happened during the middle of the night almost always and when that crying woke you up, it tore at your heart that you could do nothing more than hold him close and soothe that tiny part of his soul.
A couple more years went by like that—sometimes painfully, most rather joyfully—until you figured it out.
It was during dinnertime. Now that you were out of home and living by yourselves in a little apartment close to campus, it was usually spent doing exactly that, eating. But that particular day, Keigo wanted to watch TV. It's not something you did often. You were what they called a country bumpkin through and through. Though you had the resources, you seldom were on the web unless necessary for a task. You had a TV when you lived with your folks but aside from watching cartoons every now and then you never really paid it any attention. The one you had in your tiny apartment was one that had been left behind by the previous tenant. Just a small box with antennas that worked only when it wanted. Complying with his request, you somehow made it work, having it close enough for him to watch while you both ate. And it was while chewing through a serving of yakitori, you saw him.
Keigo. A much, much bigger version. And he was saving people and beating villains on network television. To say you almost choked to death would be an understatement. Keigo—your cute, little Keigo—was the Number Three Hero in all of Japan. The hero known as Hawks. Disbelief was what struck you first and hard. But the more your little Keigo, that little piece of him that resembled the hero to a T, pointed at the flickering screen with a larger than life smile on his face, the more you knew there was no denying the truth. But how? How had you missed such a huge thing for so long? Sure your upbringing explained it a bit. That your parents weren't big hero fans in general also added to it. But that could only hide everything for a little while. Maybe the first year. But for the last four?
God, you seriously needed to see an eye doctor from how damn blind you were.
You were still baffled as could be when you and Kei went out to the convenience store if only to get your mind out of things. But there was no time for you to space out when, out of the blue, Keigo suddenly perked up and flew away from his perch on your shoulder. Utterly freaking out when it was this late at night, you chased after the fast little pigeon, turning corner after corner and getting more lost the longer you did. You dodged some random people who were on their late night stroll or going back home from work apologizing all the way as you chased after that little red fluff of feathers as quick as you could. Finally, when he was getting too far, you shouted his name in an attempt to get him to slow down. He turned a corner, you did too—and crashed right into someone.
A hand firmly grasped your arm to stop you from falling back almost instantly. You hurriedly apologized not wanting to lose Keigo. But when the person spoke up, you froze in your tracks.
"Y/n?"
Almost instantly, your head snapped upward and met amber eyes. Rather familiar ones at that with those delineations on those eyes. The name spilled from little lips almost instantly without you even noticing.
"Keigo?"
A soft glow took both of your attentions and made you face to the side were a couple of little things were floating in midair. It was your little Keigo and in his arms...a tiny version of you. Both were giddily giggling as he spun them in midair with his wings. The glow that caught your sight had been the one they were emanating as they danced. A glow that, like you'd been told by your mother long ago, meant that you and your soulmate had finally found one another and were truly bonded. Out of breath as you were, it took you a second to finally turn back to the man before you. 'Keigo,' you reminded yourself. Before you could say anything, he let out a hearty laughter that reached his eyes as he took off the baseball cap he had on letting windswept blonde tresses fall over his face. Curious how on him it was a rather handsome look instead of cute.
"Who would've thought, huh?" As he laughed again, he reached out his hand to the two tiny versions of yourselves. Your little Keigo brought themselves back to the palm of his hand, the two holding hands and bumping their foreheads against each other like little doves. "Y'know, I always thought the little you was cute. Never thought you'd be this lovely in real life."
"T-Thank you." Dumb, yes, but you had no idea what else to say. Your brain was fried after all these surprises in less than 24 hours! The No.3 hero—your soulmate—was before you, and it was far more than you could take at the moment. When you noticed him staring, it finally brought back some of that notorious self-consciousness of yours as you fidgeted in your own shoes. "S-Sorry! It's a bit of a shock to find you, well, here. Now. And god, I can't believe this is happening now when I just found out about you."
Those amber eyes grew a bit quizzical at her statement. "What do you mean?" You were embarrassed to admit that you barely had put two and two together about his identity which got another laugh from him. "Honestly, not surprising." He reached up to ruffle the little you's head lovingly as a tender smile came to his face. "You never liked watching TV or playing with my phone. I always carry a book with me because you like to read so much. I never thought it'd take this long to find each other."
"How long have you been a hero?" you asked, curious.
"Since I was eighteen."
Oh. That explained so much. Yet nothing at all at the same time. Wanting to start things again, you cleared your throat and stood in front of him as your little Keigo returned to your side, sitting on your shoulder with a proud grin. "H-How about we start again? I'm y/n, it's nice to meet you, Kiego-san."
Keigo chuckled as the little you returned to the safety of his shirt pocket, peeking out from under the flap with as wide a smile as his. "It's nice to meet you, too, y/n."

When MVA/MLA Arc gets animated, what will you be looking forward to the most? What (canon-compliant) additions and/or changed do you want or think Bones should make, if any?
There’s--a lot. Does that surprise anyone? There’s a lot.
o I have been foaming at the mouth for voice actor announcements for almost a year now, particularly for Trumpet, Geten and RD. Trumpet’s superpower is literally his voice! I mean, nothing about that statement requires that voice be particularly entrancing, but it certainly seems like it should be, right?? Geten is a boku-type in the manga, but that was literally the only hint foreshadowing his pretty boy face through 21 solid chapters of Pure Feral Gremlin. Everyone was shocked by Geten’s face reveal! How do you maintain that surprise value with an actual voice actor in the mix? Do you not even try? Do you play up the disparity--in which direction? I can’t wait to see what they do. And Re-Destro! Re-Destro requires so much range! From his peppy, silly businessman persona, to the urbane commander, from the overeager yes-man to the raving zealot--who on earth do you get to believably cover all that ground? I can’t even begin to guess, but I am living in anticipation of that article going up on ANN or the official Twitter sources.
o I’m also much looking forward to getting official coloring on Trumpet and Geten. Skeptic seems pretty straightforward--black, black, more black--and RD and Curious, we have color art for, but I wonder if Trumpet will also be all black clothes, to go with that dignified politician image of his, or if he’ll get some color to pep him up a little. What color are those tinted shades of his? His eyes? The wicked-cool Sevens Loud? I assume Geten is all wintery shades, but it’ll be great to confirm which ones. I mean, we all assume he’s white-haired to better annoy Dabi with family parallels, but what if he turns out to be platinum blond? And are his eyes blue? Gray? White? What color is that awful parka? Also, Re-Destro’s stress powers. Having been writing them as black since at least August--Rorschach test blots are generally black, after all, and they’re the clear inspiration--I would much like it if the anime would have my back on this. They made Destro’s mask a dark cinnamon brown, though, so I’m prepared to be unpleasantly surprised in this matter.
o Predictable MLA adaptational choices aside, I’m also eager/anxious about how they’ll handle Spinner’s narration. What I really hope is that they actually straight-up hand him ALL the narration duties--not just the stuff he dictates directly in the manga, but also e.g. the name and quirk explanation material that Present Mic normally gets, or the previews that are always handled by Deku. The opening and closing sequences are another big structural thing, of course--based on the flashed snippets of Hawks and Endeavor in both our current and the previous OP, I’m expecting we’ll see at least a bit of something referencing the upcoming internship arc (which I expect to close out the season), but I hope the villains just walk away with the closing entirely. I want my slice of life villainy ED, dangit.
o Another thing I’m eager/anxious about would be Kotarou, and the Shimura flashback generally. There’s a brittle edge of to Kotarou that I really love, and I hope he manages to keep it in the anime, despite the anime being generally not so great at moments that I would describe as “delicate.” For example, I’d like it if he doesn’t get a super deep voice, and if they could manage to keep his pretty face, and capture how deeply bitter and tired he looks in the scene where he’s reading the letter Nana left him. Also, I hope they keep the little montage bits and, crucially, the changes of clothes the family goes through. We see Tenko in no less than five, possibly as many as seven, different T-shirts through the course of that flashback. It seems like a small thing, but it’s one of the factors that makes me skeptical that AFO gave Tenko Decay, when so many days clearly go by between the opening with the man at the door and the tragic end. It’d be nice not to see too much resurgence on that just because the anime can’t be bothered to come up with more than one outfit for the Shimuras.
I have enough issues with the anime’s usual adaptation choices that I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high on the actual content of the episodes. The staff is diverting too much of its major talent to the movies (BAH) these days for me to expect the whole season to look all that great, and it’s never been particularly creative or daring outside of its climactic sakuga-heavy fight scenes anyway. I’ve also long had a bone to pick with its scoring decisions, and am already eyeballing the climax of the RD/Shigaraki fight and imagining the minor-keyed terrifying dirge I fear the anime will play there, at the moment that Re-Destro (and, shortly afterward, Spinner) are supposed to be experiencing something akin to religious awakenings. There’s also the issue of the violence and gore--judging by how the anime handled the scene where Shigaraki and Compress maim Overhaul, I have some severe reservations about how much blood they’ll be allowed to get away with, particularly in the scene where the League brutally decimates that CRC group and, of course, Shigaraki’s backstory. I’m looking at MVA to serve as a preview for how all the same issues will be addressed in the War Arc.
That bit of pessimism aside, as to what I’m hoping they’ll add or change? Well, off the top of my head.....
o I would love to get a full episode devoted to the time the League spends fighting Machia. Not that first tussle, but the six grueling weeks in the mountains. There’s so much you could add there for character building and atmosphere that Hori didn’t so much as montage through. Where was their food coming from? How’d they pick out places to pitch camp? How much access to news from outside did they have, and how frequently? What were the circumstances in which Gigantomachia “told them himself” about his great sense of smell?? Stuff like that! I don’t think we’re at all likely to get this--honestly, the series of late has had enough of a problem with trimming bits and pieces that I’m as worried about what they might cut as I am hyped about things they might add--but the one thing that gives me some hope is the training camp arc. Specifically, the moment 1-A first gets to the Pussycats’ forest, they get jumped by earth golems, a fight that the manga off-panels entirely, but the anime spends a modest amount of time on, giving the kids a little bit of time to show off their moves and such. I’d love to get something equivalent for the League.
o On a similar note, I wouldn’t turn it down if they fleshed out some of those running street fights a bit. One obvious thing comes to mind: there’s a weird jump in the manga between Skeptic and a horde of his golems being all but on top of Twice at the beginning of 233 and then that fight just--doesn’t happen. There’s no mention of it at all. I think the suggestion is that either Machia’s appearance or the tower going down interrupted it--Skeptic breaks off from his fight the same way Geten and Trumpet do theirs, shifting focus to protecting Re-Destro--but it’d be nice to see the anime touch on it.
o It’d be nice to get a bit of expansion on the nature of the bullying Spinner endured. We’re told he was, but was it limited to verbal? Did he get beaten up a lot? Was there an online element? Deku’s our only other reference point for “bullied kid,” and whatever one might think about the story’s development of Bakugou’s mentality, it’s been made clear in retrospect that there was a lot more too that than just the matter of Deku’s quirklessness. I’d love to know how Spinner’s bullying looked in comparison (not least because of some of the theories about Spinner and Deku needing to come to some kind of accord to free Shigaraki from AFO).
o Make the Villa (both here and during the War Arc) look more realistic. By which I mean, I know Horikoshi is capable of drawing interesting and lived-in interior spaces--he has an entire chapter dedicated to it in the 1-A dorm room contest, after all--but he normally doesn’t bother much with it. At UA, it’s not too distracting, because we know good and well that that whole building is probably maintained by Cementoss anyway. Ditto places like Tartarus (intentionally, dehumanizingly barren) or the League’s post-Kamino hideouts (abandoned homes and industrial spaces). But the Villa? For heaven’s sake, it’s called a mountain villa. It has a clear reception desk on the ground floor; it’s obviously some sort of high-end hotel, if not an outright resort or rentable retreat lodge. Speaking as someone who’s worked in one, places like that don’t look as fuckin’ bare as the rooms we see there always seem to. For fanfic purposes, I’m happy to go on telling myself that e.g. the pool and the bar and the restaurant(s) and the gym are in the building Cementoss doesn’t tear in half, but it’d be nice if the anime could class the whole place up a little, maybe put some real furniture and decor in the rooms that are in use. (Yes, I know this is a ridiculous nitpick.)
o This is less a change and more a correction, but for fuck’s sake, BONES, give us white-haired Shigaraki. The climax of Deika is a solid time for it, given that it’s obvious in the manga that Shigaraki’s hair gets paler in Deika--you can see it in the way Horikoshi inks it (which is to say, the way he stops inking it)! I think if we ever get white-haired Shigaraki in the anime, a somewhat better time as far as narrative justification goes would be when Shigaraki gets out of the tube in the War Arc; you could easily justify it as a side-effect of the surgery. Still, I’d rather see it here. I want white-haired Shigaraki, gleaming and brilliant through the scattering ash in that crater, a veritable angel of sacred destruction. Honestly, more than anything, the crater sequence is the one I hope I love. It’s probably my favorite single moment in the entire manga, as Shigaraki wins over Re-Destro, Spinner and Gigantomachia in the same moment, and finally comes into his own. If they can at least nail that, I’ll consider myself pretty satisfied.

My theories on that scene from the Season 4 preview
When I saw the preview for 4, something that stood out to me (besides Shadow Moth’s hilarious look) is the scene where Alix, Alya, Mylene, Rose, and Juleka getting re-akuamatized. I have come up with several theories regarding the circumstances behind their akumatization, several of which I already shared in the form of asks @princess-of-the-corner and I would like to elaborate on them here (As u can only say so much in an ask), as well as provide some additional theories.
1. Lila’s lies have successfully gotten the girls pissed at Marinette and/or Ladybug- admittedly, this one is the least likely from both a watsonian and doyelist standpoint. From a doylelist standpoint, I feel like the episode will be enough a re-hash of Felix and Ladybug without the whole “someone got the girls pissed at one of the heroes by framing one of the main characters” thing. From a Watsonian standpoint, they probably already been informed of Lila’s ‘lying disease’ after the events of Ladybug, so Lila’s probably going to have a harder time getting people to believe her (because if someone told me that they had a lying disease that forces them to lie, I’d probably take any other claim with a grain of salt).
2. The girls decided to have a meeting to discuss Lila’s disease and how they can help her, and when the girls started comparing notes regarding Lila’s stories (like saving Jagged Stone’s cat) and realized that even her claim about having a lying disease doesn't make sense (because if she was lying about Marinette stealing the test answers and necklace, then how did they wind up in her backpack and locker, and also shouldn't the faculty already been informed of Lila’s disease when she first came to school?). Their confusion regrading what’s true and what isn't, remorse for not listening to Marinette, and anger at Lila, draw an akuma which lands on them while they were holding hands as part of an attempt to comfort each other and calm down. Now unlike in Felix where Lady Wifi is the only akuma that makes sense in the context of “my friend sent us a mean message when we just trying to cheer him up,” most if not all of the returning akumas could easily be applied to the situation of the girls starting to see through Lila’s lies. I can practically hear Hawk Moth’s speech to them- “Timebreaker, you regret having trusted this liar over your own friend, so I‘m giving u the chance to go back in time to fix your mistake. Lady Wifi, I’m giving u back the power to expose her lies. Princess Fragrance, Lila Rossi used u and your friends as pawns, but now, you’ll be the one who controls her and everyone around her. Reflekta, this girl lied to make herself the center of attention, but it might be difficult for her to stand out if everyone looks the same. Horrificator, I’m giving you the power to make Lila feel as helpless as her past victims. In return, well you probably know the drill by now. Do we have a deal?”
3. Verity Queen made them her knights- Mrs. Rossi runs into Marinette and Sabine and Lila’s lying disease is brought up and Mrs. Rossi is all “my daughter doesn't have a lying disease.” An argument ensues and draws an akuma, which lands on Sabine (who may have been taking the bullet for Marinette) and she becomes Verity Queen, who has a lasso of truth, She then uses her lasso of truth on Marinette (whom Sabine is most trusting of, but she felt Mrs. Rossi would only believe Marinette if she was under the influence of the lasso of truth), and Marinette confirms that she did not cheat or steal Lila’s necklace and that she Lila clammily walk down the stairs instead being pushed down. Verity Queen then asks Marinette why Lila would want to do this, Marinette replies that she was making good on her threat to turn everyone against her. Verity Queen is understandably pissed at Lila, so she leaves to go find Lila, taking Mrs. Rossi with her. She can't find Lila, but she does manage to find Marinette’s friends, and after explaining to them what Marinette told her about Lila, turns them into her knights, which r their akumatized forms, and she sends them out to search for Lila. They manage to track Lila down and take her to the tv station, where Verity Queen is waiting and has already ‘knighted’ Nadja back into Prime Queen. Verity Queen then uses her lasso of truth to force Lila to admit all of her wrongdoings on live tv.
4. Mrs. Rossi gets akumatized- Mrs. Rossi finally gets around to asking her colleagues what they should do about Ladybug’s incompetence. Mistaking this for a joke, the colleagues laugh their asses off. As they do so, Mrs. Rossi’s anger at not being taken seriously draws an akuma and here is Hawk Moth speech to her: “Red Queen, nobody but you cares about getting the akumas under control, so I’m giving u the power to do it yourself. In return, I ask that u bring me the miraculous of the heroes too incompetent to do it themselves. Do we have a deal.” The akumatized Mrs. Rossi replies “Time to show those how to do their jobs!” and becomes Red Queen who has the power to turn up to 16 people (I’m going for a chess motif here. Maybe I should call her White Queen instead) back into their akumatized forms (but she’s under the impression that they’re already in their akumatized forms) and control them. Among the people she turns back into akumas are Alix, Alya, Mylene, Rose, and Juleka. As for who the rest of the re-akuamitzed ‘pieces,’ hard to say (there r a lot to choose from). After de-akumatizing Mrs. Rossi, she explains what Lila told her, and the the heroes (which may include new ones, as in this scenario, Ladybug and Chat Noir are dealing with 16 villains, who will probably be more spread out throughout the city this time around) and former ‘chess pieces’ explain the truth Mrs. Rossi, and one of the girls wonders if Lila’s ‘lying disease’ was acting up, and Mrs. Rossi is all like ‘what lying disease?” Yeah, Lila’s in big trouble.
5. it’s just a stress-induced nightmare- it won't be the main focus of the episode, it will just be the opening scene to show how the pressure of being the new guardian is getting to her. This scenario is kinda boring.
6. Sandboy 2- Sandboy is back again, but similar to Gamer and Puppeteer, his powers have been modified. This time, instead of bringing people’s nightmares to life, he forces them into a deep sleep where they r forced to deal with nightmares they can’t wake up from (think the “Only a Dream” two-parter of Justice League, except that Sandboy can't enter anyone’s dreams). Among Sanboy’s victims is Marinette. Her nightmare (and possibly the episode, of the writer do that thing where they don't immediately reveal it’s a dream) begins with her friends disappointed with her for reason they refuse to explain and transform back into the akumatized forms and they go after her. In this nightmare, the re-akumtizations don't end with the ones seen the preview. One by one, everyone who has been akumatized turns back into their akuma form, ending with Chat Noir becoming Chat Blanc and then everyone screams at Ladybug/Marinette for falling them. She tries to summon her lucky charm, but it doesn't work. Then a nightmare version of Hawk Moth shows up and he sends an akuma Ladybug, who tries to dodge, only for Volpina to hold her down, and when Ladybug tries to resist the akumtization, all while letting out some of the most bloodcurdling screams in Christina Vee’s career. Meanwhile, in the real world, Tikki tries to wake up Marinette and when that fails, tries to remove her earrings so she can loan them to someone, but that fails too for whatever reason). So out of desperation, Tikki grabs one of the goat miraculous out of the miracle box and tracks down Marc. Tikki explains that Ladybug has been affected by Sandboy’s powers and need Marc’s help to save her). Marc then becomes the goat hero, whose power is astral projection (btw the idea of the goat’s power being astral projection was probably inspired by a fanfic called Capricorn by mico-j-ken, as Capricorn has similar powers. The fanfic in in fan fiction.net if anyone wants to read it). Goat! Marc then uses his powers to enter Marinette’s dreams, to let her know’s just a dream and also give her a much-needed pep talk. Marinette wakes up and transform into Ladybug, and defeats Sandboy. When Marc tries to give the goat miraculous back to Ladybug, she tell him to keep it, explaining that this experience made her realize that there will be situations that she won't be able to get out of with our help. As a sidenote, Marc may or may not have figured out Ladybug’s secret identity (depending on how careful Tikki, such as asking Goat! Marc to close his eyes while she lead Marc to Marinette) and may have found out about Lila’s bitchery via Nightmare!Lila monologging about making good on her threat against Marinette as Goat!Marc was entering Marinette nightmare.
What do u guys think? Which scenario do think is the coolest and/or most likely?

Fly Away, Chapter 12 Preview?
This was cut from the chapter I just posted earlier today, but I like it, so I think it’s going at the beginning of the next! Hopefully that one doesn’t take me another 6 months to polish up...but in case it gets cut again, HERE! HAVE SOME OF MY MESS!
Context: Merrill, Isabela, and Hawke have just gone out for the first time in a month because they’ve been sailing around as fugitives post-DA2. Fenris has also not been drinking much because the wine they had on the ship was crap. But he apparently found something he liked...(I actually really like port, but there’s a reason they serve it in cute tiny glasses...and this was inspired by a fancy dinner with my MIL, who didn’t quite understand that...)
...
“Oh thank the Maker you’re back!” Varric huffed as Isabela led the search for late-night snacks into the galley.
“What happened?” Isabela asked, looking around for any sign of intruders or a fight.
“Not you…”
“Huh?”
“Hawke...come and get this drunken idiot!”
Fenris slowly looked up from where he’d been sitting with his head down at the other end of the table. “...Hawke?” He looked like he was struggling to support the weight of his own face, let alone the rest of him.
“We were just playing Diamondback and he was drinking this…” Varric nudged the bottle toward Isabela with his elbow. It was unlabelled, but it looked just like any of the other wine bottles they’d found on board.
Isabela took a swig. “Ugh!” she grunted in disgust. “That’s not wine! It’s Antivan port…it has like, triple the alcohol content. Where did you find this?”
“In the cabinet…” Fenris muttered, setting his head back down on the table. “The one Hawke and I found the night she told me she loved me…oh Hawke!” He struggled to lift his head back up again. “You’re back...” he giggled.
Hawke felt her insides churn at the sound of it. She’d heard that giggle before...but he’d been asleep, dreaming about her, and Anders, and their children. Not drunk. She wondered if she might ever get a chance to hear it when he was awake and sober.
“Castillon probably kept it around as a tonic for head colds. A couple sips, and it’ll knock your ass right out, along with whatever ails you.”
“Well, he chugged half the bottle,” Varric informed her.
“Mmm…” Fenris mumbled. “It tasted like wine candy…”
“Oh, hun,” Isabela was shaking her head at him. “Your sweet tooth!”
“Is he going to be alright?” Hawke asked.
“No…” Fenris groaned.
“Yes. But I don’t know how he’s still conscious.”
“...festis bei umo canavarum!”
Isabela tried hard to stifle her own laughter, while Merrill’s eyes grew wide with concern. Varric just shook his head.
“Um, what?” Hawke asked.
“Nevermind…” Varric stood up and prepared to heave one of Fenris’ arms over his shoulder. “He insisted on waiting up for you, and now that you’re back...”
Fenris swatted him away, nearly falling to the floor in the process. “For Hawke! I have to wait for her. I promised Aveline…and I already failed the mage...”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah...well, look! Here she is! Time for bed, elf!”
“I don’t want to go to bed with you, dwarf!” Fenris hissed, trying to kick him even further away and missing him by three whole feet as he fell to the floor in a mess of limbs flailing in slow-motion.
“Not this again…” Varric threw his hands up in the air and stomped off toward his room.
“Hawke?” Fenris called out from the floor.
Isabela wasn’t even trying to hide her laughter anymore.
“Yes. I’m still here.”
“You’re back! I was so worried…”
“Oh, how sweet!” Merrill finally blurted out.
“I’m fine, Fenris. We’re fine. You, on the other hand…”
“Not fine…” Fenris shook his head groggily from side to side as he tried to stand up.
“No. It certainly doesn’t seem like it.” She was doing a much better job of not laughing at him than Isabela, who was nearly doubled over. “Would you like to lay down in a bed instead of on the floor?”
“Yes. With you. Please?”
Hawke blushed. She knew what he meant. Just sleeping. But she knew how the others would take it.
Isabela guffawed all over again, and Merrill was still beaming at them.
“You got this, hun!” Isabela winked, as Hawke helped Fenris up and then allowed him to slump half-conscious against her side.
She gave her one last exasperated glare before leading him toward their room.
“Poor Fenris…” Merrill lamented, tucking an arm around Isabela’s elbow.
“He’ll be fine…” Isabela turned to her, a giant smile plastered across her face. “It’s fucking adorable, isn’t it?”
“Yes!”
“I really hope they don’t fuck it up…”
“They’ve already managed to make it through so many other horrible things. I don’t think they will.”
Isabela wrapped her arm around Merrill’s waist. “C’mon...let’s go to bed.”

Just got home from a long and exhausting trip home from New York, where I spent a long and exhausting but FUN weekend with my friends for BookCon, and now I have to prepare for a long and surely exhausting week ahead of me that includes a midterm exam, jury duty, and all of the laundry. But to focus on the FUN things:
Spent Friday night eating Chinese food while catching up on gossip and essentially holding a war council over our event schedules
The very first thing I went to was the event that included Maggie Stiefvater and the preview for Call Down the Hawk, and based on that 8 chapter sampler that had me in a giddy mood the entire day, WE ARE IN FOR SOME GOOD SHIT IN THE DREAMER TRILOGY Y’ALL
I went to a panel about graphic novels and it included one of the best Q&A sessions...because the microphone was broken and we couldn’t hear anything so the moderator had to repeat the actual question as something acceptable
We had a bit of a fail for dinner, but Saturday night we went to this thing called The Cauldron, which is this fantasy-inspired pub that had this “potions experience” where the staff is in character and you get to make your own drinks and it was the most unexpected fun I’ve ever had in my life, because I really didn’t know what I was getting into when I signed up for it. Plus, the drinks were delicious and we got smashed
Sunday morning involved packing up and trying to fit so many books and goodies into our suitcases, but that did not stop from walking the BookCon vendor stalls and buying so many things
And then on my bus ride back (which included many distressing things, including angry people from earlier delayed buses and me winding up on a different bus from my friends), we made a stop in Providence to drop people off and the person I was next to got off and I got the row to myself for the last leg to Boston and I was very grateful
So I’m definitely taking a train to New York from now on because I cannot deal with buses anymore, but basically BookCon was an overall positive for me and I’ve got to reevaluate my reading list to accommodate so many things

The Clumsy Square and the Lady Fair [BNHA] preview
Summary: Iida Tenya is presently the top student of UA Boys Academy, square in shape and personality, working hard for a comfortable square-shaped future following in the footsteps of his brother Sergeant Iida Tensei of the National Police Academy. However, he finds himself deviating from his square-shaped path when he helps a girl from Shiketsu Girls High School from being harassed by a group of perverts! As fate, circumstance, and questionable life choices bring him and Yaoyorozu Momo-kun closer, Iida-kun finds himself needing more and more courage to let things fall unpredictably--and naturally--into place.
Relationship: Iida Tenya/Yaoyorozu Momo; lots of other background relationships to be determined!
Rating: T for language!
Notes/Warnings: So some time ago, I received a suggestion to write a real honest to goodness IDMM fic rather than the sad one I published for YES. For some reason, this is the first thing I thought of!
This is a quirkless AU inspired mainly by Densha Otoko/Train Man. Characters from both the canon story and the spin-off (BNHA: Vigilantes) are set to appear here to support our fav square. Apart from Bakugou’s Potty Mouth (tm) when he appears in the story, I have no real warning other than ‘dorks in love’ (and maybe a little awkwardness in narration since I’m trying out a new style). By my planning this is 11 chapters long, but the chapters are... long lololol so it will take a while before I publish the whole story for real. Just feeling a little impatient so I’m publishing the beginning of the story here!
Our story, simply put, is a love story between two high schoolers who meet, become friends, go through the tumultuous confusion of puberty, and eventually fall in-love. Like most stories worth telling, the events that lead to the lovely outcome isn’t as smooth and easy as it sounds. This comes much to the chagrin of our main character, who likes angular, standard glasses, straight, measured lines, and as such spent his childhood running into walls and breaking his glasses because he doesn’t know how to change directions. But as he is about to learn, the best things in life occur off the beaten path.
Let’s begin with our main character. His name is Iida Tenya, 15 years old and, as his friends and family are prone to tell you before the events of this story, he is single for the same number of years as his age.
There are other important things you have to know about our dear Iida-kun. First, he is a first year high school student at the prestigious all-boys’ school, UA. It is a school of great renown, with various opportunities for sports and science engineering scholarships. Were it a different universe, we’re sure that superheroes would choose this school to fast-track their careers into the world of pros!
Impressively, our main character got into this prestigious school with no problems. In fact, he is the number one student in his class, the track team’s star, and also the class representative. In any other school you’d think that he’d be popular and having the unique problem of getting love letters in his school locker everyday, or receiving a table full of chocolates ever Valentine’s day.
Unfortunately, as mentioned before… this is an all-boys’ school. And even though Iida Tenya-kun is classified as one of the ikemen group in 1A because of his looks, he is surprisingly, severely… unpopular. His fellow students like him enough as Class President, but also tell him outright that he’s too stiff or he’s too stern or he talks like an old man or he’s got a weird way of being fired up and why do his arms do that thing?
(You know, the thing when he chops his hand down like a director’s clapperboard? Or the thing that goes down in the parking lot right before you pay your parking fee? That one.)
Bakugou Katsuki-kun, the top 2 student in their class, as well the top 1 in distemper and volatility, eloquently regarded him as such: a Square. A Square in shape, a Square in personality, and a Square in everything he does. Being Bakugou, he says it with more unreasonable expletives than warranted. Iida-kun doesn’t like it very much, but he has to admit, the square shoe fits too well.
It’s distinctive enough that Iida Tenya-kun isn’t regarded by his many classmates as a romantic prospect or a future rival, which is fine by him, because romance with a boy or a girl is the farthest thing from his mind. But he also isn’t taken seriously a lot of the time, which he minded a lot. He likes his classmates well enough, but nary a day passes that he isn’t laughed at for his different way of doing things.
At the end of the day though, despite all the challenges that accompany a square existence, Iida Tenya-kun is happy the way he is. After all, even though he is single, he has acquaintances and those he even dared to call close friends. Namely, Midoriya Izuku-kun, the top 3 student of their class, and Todoroki Shouto-kun, the top 4 student of his class, who both like him well enough. On odd days that he feels the pang of loneliness, he reminds himself that he has too many responsibilities like class rep work and academics and the track team and living up to his brother’s name to really worry about being 15 years old and single for the same number of years.
He’s… happy the way he is. Perfectly happy as a Square, fitting in the square-shaped future he plotted out for him on a clean, precise sheet of graphing paper. There’s no reason for him to change his shape.
So, back to the story. Our Square Friend is in a rush trying to reach the dorms before curfew at 2100 hours. He’s had a long day of working on class representative matters, training with the Track Team, and cleaning out the 1A classroom for a second time (which he tends to do when Kaminari-kun and Monoma-kun are assigned that day’s cleaning duties). After that, he’s had to rush to the Hosu City Mall, where they are selling the limited edition Ingenium Recipro Boost running shoes. It is extremely necessary because it is the only running shoes appropriate for track. When it comes to running shoes, you shouldn’t settle for anything but the best!
Before he realizes it, it is already 2032 hours and his dormmate Midoriya-kun is already asking where he is. He makes a run for the train and barely makes the 2045 train headed for the UA Campus.
At this time of the evening, there aren’t many fellow students on the train, and the carriages aren’t that full. All the seats are taken, mainly by tired salarymen, housewives who did their shopping, and a few elderlies who are seated with their eyes on the floor.
Oh, but somebody else catches his eye. As he remembers the story later on in his life, this must be the moment when his life changed.
The girl is a fellow student, just like him. The first thing he notices about her is her aura, an elegance he cannot quite explain by her appearance alone. Her eyes were dark like ebony, but bright with intelligence as they scanned through an English copy of Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time.[3] Her hair is similarly dark and shiny, neatly tied behind her head in a ponytail that fell in a curious, spiky spiral that only makes her look more distinctive. Her posture is impeccable--he was sure that her upbringing was similarly refined, just by looking at the way she sat. She is wearing a blazer and a dark skirt that Iida-kun identifies as the Shiketsu Girls’ High School uniform.
And… she looks up at him briefly with a curious look in her eyes.
Oh dear. He might have been staring a tad too long. He instantly averts his eyes and focuses on the floor, trying not to blush. Ah, but his ears are getting warmer and his palms are getting sweaty and any minute now his glasses might fog. How embarrassing.
For the first time in his life, Iida-kun thinks of this sentence, in reference not to a Italian Renaissance fresco (such as the likes of Raphael’s The School of Athens), but to an actual human person:
How… breathtaking!
And almost immediately he fights the urge to karate-chop himself in shame. Iida-kun, do not pick up Kaminari-kun’s unseemly habit of ogling at females!
His stop is five stations away. This breathtaking girl is likely going to get off at a different station, and he’ll probably never get to see her again. It’s a little sad, he admits, but it’s not like he has the means or the will to introduce himself to her under these circumstances… he just has to get a hold of himself and stop staring already.
But the universe isn’t done with Iida-kun just yet. Looking back, this must be the second moment when his life changed.
“Heya, heya, hey-yaaaa! Three Sturm Und Drang Brothers comin’ yer wayyy-ya!”
Three shady-looking individuals clad in tight, dark outfits and identical black beanies enter the carriage, swaggering left and right. A strong stench, which is probably a mixture of alcohol and cigarette smoke, wafts from their general direction.
Including Iida-kun, everybody else on the carriage clamps their nostrils shut with their hands and give in to the impulse to face the floor and avoid all eye contact.
“Where the pretty ladies at, yo--? Come out, come out, and have a good time with us!”
What fiends! What a blatant disrespect for women! How despicable! Iida-kun rants silently. He hears his pulse throbbing angrily in his head, and feels his teeth clench. Somebody needs to do something about this!
But for all the angry thoughts in Iida-kun’s head, he keeps his head down.
“Whaa? Bro, looks like we got the wrong carriage, huuuh?” Iida-kun hears one obnoxious voice say, followed by an ominous chuckle. “What is this, the elderly car? There’re only haggard housewives and grannies and ugly old salarymen here, wuuut?”
He peeks a little to observe their rampage. He sees them appraise all the women in the car one by one, leering at them in the face with a sickening grin. The salarymen, all able-bodied men who are seated near the perverts, are obviously aware of what’s happening, but keep their eyes down.
What are these adults doing? Isn’t anybody going to do anything about this?! He feels his fist tighten a little more, but again, he keeps his head down. Iida Tenya! Maybe you should do something about this! If nobody will do the right thing, doesn’t the duty befall on YOU?
“Man, and I thought we’d have another panty run tonight. This blows! Looks like we’re at the boring part of town…”
What would your older brother, Sergeant Iida Tensei of the National Police Agency, do in this situation?! Don’t let him down! Be brave! Be Brave!
“Oh ho ho! Bros! I found a beaut right here!”
He suddenly hears a high-pitched squeak, followed by the sound of somebody being pulled up to their feet. Iida-kun’s head snaps upward, all apprehensions instantly dissipating.
“Oh lordy! We hit the jackpot here!”
To his horror, the perverts now had the Shiketsu High girl in their grubby grasps. The tallest of the trio held her by the arm, causing her to drop Professor Hawking’s book to the floor. The other two leer at her, pushing their faces very, very close to her personal bubble.
“Hey, cutie? What’s your name? Come on, don’t be a snob. Smile for me, won’t ya?”
Someone… someone has to help… somebody? Anybody? A quiet rage, one that our main character has not felt before ever in his fifteen long years of life, begins to build up in his chest.
“Help me, please!” The girl manages to cry, to which the pervert trio around her only whoops in false offense.
Suddenly, he loses all impulse to keep his head down any further. “You FIENDS! You perverts! Sexual harassers! Let her go this instant!”
Before he even realizes that it is his voice booming out all over the carriage, and it is his loud footsteps thundering towards the scene, he is already there, facing off against the surprised perpetrators and the terrified girl.
“Oh~ is that so, aniki?” The tallest one isn’t even fazed, even when Iida-kun attempts to puff out his chest and appear as the most intimidating square as he could be. He turns to the girl, who whimpers as his unpleasant mug is again near her face. “Oh, I know what you want! You want onee-chan here for yourself, huh? Too bad, we got dibs on her!”
Within the next instant, the other two perverts flank him on the side. Caught by surprise, the usually sturdy Iida is suddenly falling to the ground. He flinches and groans as two of the Sturm Und Drang brothers make quick work of him, stomping him and kicking him until his body started screaming in pain. He hears the muffled gasps and cries of all the other passengers, but not a single one of them stands up, or even dares to look.
He shields his face with his arms when the perverts attack his ‘nerd-glasses’ next. Even then, he sees the despairing look in the Shiketsu girl’s face, as the pervert’s tongue goes nearer and nearer her skin…
“Freeze!”
In the next instant, Iida realizes that the stomping and kicking has stopped, and instead three frenzied yells from above him ring out. Within the next ten seconds, he hears a series of precise fists hitting gasping flesh, clicking noises, and the huff of a job well done.
Stunned, he sees an arm reach out to him. He takes it and sees a handsome face smiling down on him. “It’s all right now, buddy,” he says, as he pulls him up to a standing position.
The Shiketsu girl is still shaking, but she is now standing behind the man and at a safe distance from the perverts, who are now handcuffed together on the floor. They seem to have the breaths knocked out of them and didn’t have the energy to look at the mysterious helpful stranger with consternation.
The passengers seem to awaken from their stupor and have exploded in thunderous applause, all thanks of course to the stranger. Not knowing what else to do, the beat-up high school boy bows his head to him. “Thank you,” Iida supplies weakly.
“No, thank you,” the stranger says, reaching out to shake his hand. “If you didn’t yell at the harassers back then, I wouldn’t have known there was trouble from the other car.”
He then looks at the girl, who is still stunned and shaking in silence. He puts a comforting hand on her shoulder and nods. “How about you, miss? Are you all right?”
The glazed look in her eyes dissipates briefly. “O-Oh! Y-yes, I am n-now.” As if just snapping back to her senses, she bows low in front of the stranger and says, “Thank you v-very much for s-saving me from them! Y-you’re my hero!”
Somehow, the way she says hero rings in Iida’s head and lingers there, an unexplained emotion creeping into his heart.
The stranger laughs it off and shakes his hands in front of him. “Oh, no, it’s my job. See, I’m a police officer. Well, an off-duty one, but a police officer just the same.” He reaches into his pocket and shows them his ID and badge. “I’m Inspector Tsukauchi Naomasa.”
Iida’s jaw drops. A police officer! Just like his beloved older brother, Sergeant Iida Tensei of the National Police Agency! No wait, he’s even more specialized than that, he’s an Inspector! A higher ranking! His glasses shine in respect. Police officers are just too cool!
Not like him, who was definitely uncool just a while ago. He feels his glasses fog in shame.
“And I’ll have to ask you two to hop off with me on the next station,” he continues as he walks closer to the apprehended perverts. When he regards the look of horror on the high school students’ faces, he laughs. “No, I’m not going to arrest you two. But I do need your statements, and I need to make sure you two are safe. All right?”
The two high school students nod in relief.

At long last
I promised it would come. And I finally had the time to finish it. The first chapter to what will eventually be my hawks x oc fic, which I’m tentatively titling “Interview with a Winged Hero”. It might seem long compared to what I usually write here, but that’s my usual length for chapters most of the time. So, here it is. Really sorry about the grammatical errors and everything, especially if it’s disrupting. It’s almost midnight and I needa get up in five hours for school, but wanted to post this before anything else.
Thing is though that it’s about 26 pages long. Can’t really post that here without making a mess.
So here’s where they’re posted on FF and AO3.
I’d really ‘preciate some input on how it’s looking :) I’m hoping to edit it in the future (if not fully on rewrite it) and get on writing the ch2 when I get time. But enough of that. I’m sure you guys need some convincing to click those, so have a little preview under the cut ♥
|Five years ago—Tokyo|
The blinding blue light of her computer screen reflected at her from the glass of red rimmed glasses, tiring her sight and making Miryoku reach underneath them to rub at her tired eyes.
Fourteen straight hours of researching online about the up and coming 'Winged Hero' and the next eight writing up a rough draft of the article snatched most of her day up without her noticing. She had gotten too into this without meaning to. Much like everything else that caught her attention, it absorbed her and blinded her to her surroundings. Even gramps knew not to bother her when she was like that and had only left her some taiyaki for her to snack on when she waved off going downstairs to properly eat dinner.
But even that small period of starvation proved useless when she had spent the last couple of hours stuck while writing. For as inspired as she had been, it proved harder the further she wrote into it. Each time she reread what she had, it only made it all the clearer how superficial it all sounded. It hadn't bothered her too much at first. It was just some lousy contest that she was writing this for after all. But she couldn't help it. No matter what it was for, this was still something she wrote. It was a piece she put heart and time into. It was something that interested her for once. And because of that, it was easily becoming a work of pride for her. As such, just any half-assed written paper wouldn't do. If she was going to do this, she was going to do it the right way.
That 'right way' though continued to elude her way into the early hours of working.
Now at 3:54 in the morning, her stomach rumbled in blatant criticism of her poor health decisions. She was dying of hunger which only added to her already carved in frustration. And surely gramps had only bought the taiyaki for dinner like he always did when she left him to fend for himself where food was concerned. There wasn't anything in the fridge either since she hadn't gone grocery shopping with how engrossed she'd become working on the dumb article. How is he still alive after living like for all these years? Resigning with a hefty groan, Miryoku leaned back in her chair to stare at the dark ceiling of her room for a minute.
"Guess konbini bento it is."
Jumping out of her chair, Miryoku snatched a spare jacket from the floor along with her wallet and quietly sprinted down the stairs of their home, making extra sure that her grandfather was asleep before shoving her shoes on and walking out the front door. Sprinting halfway there, Miryoku felt her chest burn as the icy, winter air entered her lungs finally making her continue in a brisk walk instead. Donning her jacket and pulling the hood over her hair, she adjusted her glasses that had slipped down her nose and stared up and head through the empty streets of her neighborhood.
So quiet and peaceful. Despite being a short distance from the apex of Tokyo, where her gramps lived was part of the more dilapidated part of town. More seniors lived around these parts than anything and though it had great dining options, they weren't places that meritted going without company. Which is why she thanked her lucky stars that a konbini was within fair walking distance from their house.
Miryoku didn't take long to pick out her bento and a few choice items before heading out with a hefty bag full of snacks in hand. It was while mindlessly walking ahead while struggling to put her wallet away in her back pocket that a chill ran down her spine a moment before a large hand snagged said item from her grasp.
"Hey!"
The thief didn't spare her a glance as he ran off at full speed. It took a moment of grounding herself before Miryoku sprinted after him too with her bag hanging behind her. "Get back here, you bastard!"
But keeping him in sight proved harder than she thought though with how badly in shape she was. Soon, Miryoku noticed him getting further and further away and when she thought she'd definitely lose him, she took a last ditch effort to stop him. Grabbing the bag full of snacks in both hands, Miryoku sprinted with all she had before hauling the bag and everything in it right at the thief's back. True to its aim, the heavy bag struck him and made him lose momentum but didn't make him stop.
No!
But just as she thought he'd surely get away, small flashes of red darted past the corner of her vision, the light from the streetlights making their color all the more vibrant as they caught the thief's clothes and shoved him to the ground with unbelievable strength, effectively pinning him in the street for good measure.
Miryoku stopped in her tracks, breathing heavy and shallow as she adjusted her glasses again to get a better look of what'd happened. Half her groceries were scattered on the floor, and not far from the thief her wallet itself, but what caught her attention most were the large crimson feathers that pierced through the man's clothes and deep into the asphalt street.
"Sorry 'bout that!" The carefree tone that floated above her made her turn skyward just in time to see a blur of red fall a few feet from her. Miryoku covered her face from the rush of air that fell on her and blinked at the large, crimson wings that unfurled before her as the owner turned to face her.
Amber eyes stared back at her and a satisfied smile spread across the face of the man she had spent the whole day learning about.
"Oh, here," Hawks said, sprinted up to her wallet that was the nearest thing to him and passing it on to her. "Gotta say, you're lucky I heard ya when I did otherwise there'd go your money. Nice hit, by the way, though your groceries might've suffered some casualties."
Miryoku blinked in utter disbelief as the man bend over to readily pick up the snacks that had stumbled out of the plastic bag when she threw it. Seeing him do this snapped her out of her stupor but just when she was going to help him pick the rest off the streets, she got caught off guard by the flurry of red feathers that effortlessly went about picking up the rest. In a matter of minutes, Hawks approached her with an open bag as his feather deposited the items they retrieved and passed on the full bag back to her with a grin on his face.
"Here ya go."
Carefully, she took it in her hands, thanking him under her breath and watched him from a few feet away as he dealt with the thief. Curious and without knowing, Miryoku mindlessly followed him back to the konbini where he and the cashier took care of calling the police. She honestly didn't know why she stayed behind and waited with them for the authorities to arrive but when they did and she gave her statement about what happened, Miryoku finally decided to head back home when she found him busy talking to the police. A small part of her had wanted to talk to him if even for a few minutes. Just a few words to help her out of her writer's block. But that was too much too hope for. Even she knew that. And even if the opportunity had risen, Miryoku would've no doubt spoiled it somehow with her more than lacking social skills.
Decidedly leaving the konbini behind, she stared down at her feet as she walked through the empty streets. Her mind reeled with what had just happened despite the quietness that surrounded her. The blur of red that flashed right before her eyes—it reminded her of lightning, but faster. Much, much faster.
Too fast.
"Miss, dontcha think it's unsafe to walk by yourself about what just happened to ya?"
Vibrant red blocked her vision for a moment before amber eyes met with hers. Miryoku yelped out and held a hand to her chest from the heart attack that the winged man gave her by appearing out of the blue in front of her. Mumbling under her breath, she kept looking back and forth from where she'd left the konbini behind and him questioning from where the hell he'd come from.
A bubbly chuckle came out of him as he landed before her, his huge wings tucking themselves behind him as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans. Leaning on one leg, he tilted his head and grinned, "Sorry 'bout that."
"It's alright," she said. Looking back once more, she stared back at him confused. "Not to be rude but what are you doing here?"
"Oh, right!" The feathers on his wings rustled when he perked up, startling Miryoku a little from the sudden movement. "I came here 'cause I thought you'd want a ride home with the police after what happened."
"I don't need it," she quickly retorted.
"Ya just got mugged though."
"And I'm fine." Miryoku couldn't help being miffed at his insinuation. "I thank you for helping me back there but I'm not that helpless. So thanks, but no thanks about the ride. Besides, my house is pretty close by. I'll be fine getting back by myself."
Hawks' brow furrowed and his nose scrunched up as he frowned. Seemingly at odds with himself, he rubbed the back of his back for a moment before his eyes widened in realization and he smiled that goofy grin back at her again.
"Then let me walk ya back!"
"No thank you."
Not waiting for his answer, Miryoku sidestepped him and walked off on her own. That didn't last for long before she heard the soft flapping of wings following behind her. Glancing over her shoulder, she glared back at Hawks who stopped dead in his tracks, hovering a few inches off the floor as he followed behind her with a nervous grin.
"Ya don't have to give me that look."
A small tick grew on her jaw. "I already said no thanks." She gave him her back and kept walking ahead despite still hearing the soft beating of his wings as he flew behind her, "And besides, don't you have a mugger to report?"
"The cops took care of him, so my job's done where that's concerned."
"Then you should head home yourself. It's quite late to be out and about."
"I could say the same about ya, missy."
"Yeah, well…" When she couldn't come up with anything, heat rushed up her neck and to her ears. "I seriously don't need you to accompany me to my house."
"What kind of hero would I be if I didn't escort a lady like yourself?"
"One with too much time on his hands, that's for sure," she mumbled under her breath.
"Ha!" Hawks laughed finally flying beside her, his lower feathers brushing carelessly against her arm. "You couldn't be more wrong, missy."
"You really don't know when to be quiet, do you?"
"It's a gift," he coyly replied.
Miryoku couldn't help but sigh in frustration. Who in their right mind would've thought the youngest hero with an agency of his own, a prodigy of his generation, would be such a handful to deal with?
Thankfully, her house was only a short walk back and Hawks landed just at the foot of the few steps that led up to the front door of her house. Miryoku stepped back and nodded to it as she climbed the last step up, hand already on the doorknob.
"See? Not that far."
He scoffed but that grin never left his face. "It's hard for ya to say 'thanks,' isn't it?"
"No, I do," she rectified, more than peeved about that comment. "I said it before. I also said that walking me back wasn't needed. Quite a waste of your time if you ask me."
"Eh, that's kinda subjective if ya ask me." Hawks shrugged his shoulders before flapping his wings to get a good few feet off the floor. "Well, have a goodnight, missy." He saluted her with a couple of his fingers, "Be careful on your next late night stroll!"
Miryoku was about to retort at the cheeky remark but before she could, that heap of red dashed out of sight leaving nothing but the faint blur of crimson in her vision. She shook her head as she went inside and quietly headed to her room with all her food. Sitting back behind her computer, Miryoku stared at the screen where her article laid open and half written. But despite wanting to focus, she found herself thinking over and over about their small conversation in those few minutes of a stroll.
She leaned forward to cradle her chin in her hands and reread her article, his words replaying in her head as she concocted an image of the young hero.
Brash. Reckless. Chirpy.
Precocious sounds better.
"...the precocious man…"
She twirled the pocky stick in her mouth with her tongue and stopped at the sound of what she'd mindlessly spoken. Letting it sink and liking the sound of that, she bit down on the treat and stretched back before going back to typing furiously at her keyboard.

The Arkansas Cinema Society broadens its offerings in year two
With Filmland, the sequel.
Like its inaugural year, the Arkansas Cinema Society's annual Filmland event has just about everything an Arkansas film lover could want: drama, comedy, overlooked gems, a preview screening of a likely future Oscar contender and a large slice of the best of homegrown cinema. The event runs from Thursday, Aug. 23, to Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Central Arkansas Library System's Ron Robinson Theater. Find tickets at arkansascinemasociety.org.
To kick things off Thursday night, acclaimed director Richard Linklater will show one of his more overlooked films: 1998's "The Newton Boys," starring Matthew McConaughey, Skeet Ulrich, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio as bank-robbing brothers. After the screening, ACS co-founder Jeff Nichols will discuss the film with Linklater.
It's a fitting way to start the event. As a filmmaker, Linklater is who fellow filmmaker Nichols points to as his definition of success. "Success isn't necessarily box office or critical reviews — obviously those things are important — success is the impact that you have on culture and the conversation at large," Nichols said, noting the varied number of times Linklater has made that sort of impact with films like "Slacker," "Dazed and Confused," "Before Sunrise," "Bernie" and "Boyhood." "To have someone who multiple times has entered the stream of that conversation — the zeitgeist — is what I call ultimate success."
Last year, when Nichols and co-founder Kathryn Tucker announced the creation of the ACS, Nichols said he wanted to model the new venture on the Austin Film Society, founded by Linklater in 1985. The AFS hosts regular screenings, provides grants to filmmakers and teaches people how to make movies. When Nichols moved to Austin in 2002 with no money and no movies under his belt, the AFS was where he found his community. Nichols said he plans to let Linklater "talk about Austin Film Society's creation and where it's gone, so people can look into the future of what [the ACS] could be with the right kind of community and support."
Nichols and Tucker have grand visions for the ACS, but already in year two it's broadening its focus. "This is only our second August event, and I see it as a progression from the first in terms of starting to reflect the bigger, broader goals of the Arkansas Cinema Society," Nichols said. "Part of that is seeking out the work of Arkansans and providing a platform for it. It's about kicking off the idea of this Homegrown series."
That's what ACS is calling its plan to host screenings of local films throughout the year. At Filmland, four of the highest profile features will screen along with a handful of top Arkansas short films (in full disclosure, I was on a committee that selected the Arkansas films). The features screening Aug. 24 are "The Revival," the debut feature from Jennifer Gerber, the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival's executive director, about an illicit love affair between a Southern Baptist preacher and a drifter; "Dayveon," the debut feature by Amman Abbasi (see Q&A page 17), about a 13-year-old boy who falls into a rural gang; and "Antiquities," the feature adaption of Daniel Campbell's award-winning short (see page 18), featuring Mary Steenburgen. On Sunday, there'll be an encore screening of "Antiquities," an Arkansas shorts program and a showing of "All the Birds Have Flown South," the debut feature from Josh and Miles Miller, starring Joey Lauren Adams.
The Saturday slate is another change of pace for Filmland. It's all comedy during the day and documentary at night. Nichols credits Steenburgen, an ACS board member whom he describes as "a colossal figure" in the industry (see Q&A on page 16), for securing the lineup, which includes actors and writers she worked with on the acclaimed Fox comedy "The Last Man on Earth": Will Forte, Kristen Schaal, Rich Blomquist and John Solomon. Forte and his writing partner Solomon will also screen their SNL action-comedy "MacGruber," which they co-wrote with director Jorma Taccone (of "The Lonely Island" fame), who'll also be in attendance. Nichols will get a post-screening interview assist from Steenburgen and her husband, Ted Danson, after the "MacGruber" showing. Saturday night, Matthew Cooke's documentary, "Survivor's Guide to Prison" explores the U.S. prison system through the eyes of two wrongly convicted men. Cooke and producers David and Christina Arquette will talk about the film afterward (Christina Arquette's maiden name is McClarty; she's a Hope native; see Q&A on page 19).
Filmland closes Sunday with its first premiere screening. "Operation Finale," about Israel's pursuit of Adolf Eichmann (Ben Kingsley), the Nazi mastermind of the Holocaust, plays a few days before its limited release. Producers Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones will participate in a post-screening discussion with Nichols. Berger was a producer for "La La Land" and the one onstage at the Oscars who told the audience, "We lost, by the way." He's got a number of high-profile projects in the pipeline. Kavanaugh-Jones, along with Sarah Green, is one of Nichols' producing partners. "He's the reason 'Shotgun Stories' got finished and the reason 'Take Shelter' got off the ground," Nichols said of Kavanaugh-Jones. "To be able to hear these two guys talk, I just want people to understand, you're not talking to the producer who did amazing things in the '80s, you're talking about two guys who are going to change things now."
Nichols, who hosted a special seminar on writing for film last year for ACS and plans to host one on directing sometime in December, wants to schedule an event geared toward producers down the line.
As a bonus to eventgoers who stick around on Sunday, before "Operation Finale" Nichols will show his new short film, inspired by Lucero's "Long Way Back Home," from the band's recently released ninth album, "Among the Ghosts." Nichols' brother Ben Nichols is Lucero's lead singer. Like all of Nichols' movies, this one stars Michael Shannon, who here plays a shady, slick-haired man who returns to Memphis looking for his two ne'er-do-well brothers (played by Scoot McNairy and Garrett Hedlund). The Nichols brothers will discuss the film, too.
For an event that's all about getting people together to talk about film, the after-parties are a key element. They're all downtown and all feature music. Ticketholders get in free; each party has a $15 cover otherwise. Of special note, Ben Nichols plays a rare solo show at Stickyz on Sunday and Phoenix, which headlines the Saturday after-party at Revolution, is an in-demand classic rock cover band from Las Vegas, not the French indie pop band led by the guy who's married to Sofia Coppola.

Match preview: Geelong versus Hawthorn
WHERE AND WHEN: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Monday April 2, 3.20pm (AEST) RECENT HISTORY: The Cats have had the better of the Hawks in recent times, winning the past four clashes between the two clubs, although two of those victories have been by less than one straight kick. SUMMARY: Champion midfielder Gary Ablett's return to the Cattery proved to be a happy one, as the little master helped himself to an equal game-high 39 possessions to help lift his team to a nail-biting three-point win over Melbourne to start the season. Inspirational leader Joel Selwood was the other Cat to gather 39 disposals, and the duo will be joined by 2016 Brownlow medal winner Patrick Dangerfield for the first time in what will be a treat for football fans. After missing out on September action for the first time since 2009 last season, Hawthorn got their 2018 campaign off to a strong start, accounting for Collingwood by 34 points, with ball magnet Tom Mitchell yet again tormenting Nathan Buckley's men, racking up a staggering 54 possessions. While Mitchell's performance was impressive, coach Alistair Clarkson would have been more pleased by his team's ability to put points on the board, the Hawks cracking the 100-point barrier in round one after achieving the feat on just four occasions in 2017. KEY PLAYERS: Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn)
GEELONG will be looking to quell the influence of Tom Mitchell after the Hawthorn ball-magnet racked up 54 possessions against Collingwood in round one. Mitchell took his game to another level in 2017, averaging a career-best 35.8 possessions in a year in which he earned All Australian honours for the first time and claimed the Peter Crimmins medal as Hawthorn's best-and-fairest. The former Swan looks set for another big season after his career-best effort against the Magpies. Mitchell continues to cop criticism for the disparity between the amount of ball he wins and metres gained, but gaining territory is not his modus operandi. Mitchell is one of the best extractors in the League, and his ability to use the football cleanly by hand is central to Hawthorn's running game. Scott Selwood would have been an obvious choice to tag Mitchell, but with the former Eagle on the comeback trail from an ankle injury, the Cats could will surely look to take Mitchell out of the game another way. Sam Menegola has the strength around the ball to hold his own against Mitchell and with strong overhead marking skills the West Australian talent can push forward and expose the 24-year-old. Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong) Dangerfield tore the Hawks to shreds in both Geelong wins over Hawthorn last year. He gathered 27 possessions in round four before kicking 5.6 in round 17 in a performance that saw him earn the three Brownlow medal votes. As a midfielder, Dangerfield's ability to push forward and impact the scoreboard in a significant way makes him the best player in the competition. Keeping the 27-year-old off the scoresheet will be a major focus for Hawthorn. James Sicily (Hawthorn) Sicily started off his 2018 campaign in style, gathering 26 possessions to go with 11 intercepts, seven marks and four rebound 50's. The Hawks firebrand has been a revelation down back since switching to defence in the second half of last season, and his ability to intercept the football and dispose of it efficiently is a key element in Hawthorn putting a winning score n the board. The Cats are bound to assign a defensive forward to Sicily, with James Parsons a potential candidate for the role. The 20-year-old enjoyed a strong start to the season, tallying 17 disposals, including eight marks, two goal assists and one goal against Melbourne. Geelong must go through Parsons at every available opportunity and the 21-gamer must captitalise on his chances, whether it be through impact the scoreboard directly or creating scoring chances for his team mates, so as to make Sicily accountable and prevent him from zoning off and being the intercept marking king that he has demonstrated he has the capacity to be in recent times. Mark Blicavs (Geelong) Blicavs faces another stern test as he takes the next step in his defensive development. With dual All Australian Harry Taylor sidelined indefinitely with a foot injury sustained in the win over Melbourne, Blicavs will be called upon to lock down on a key Hawk forward. It's likely that he will be given the job of manning up on Jack Gunston, given that he has the tank and aerial ability to go with the former Crow. Central to Hawthorn putting 100 points on the board last week was their ability to move the football with surgical-like precision. Some of Geelong's best wins last season can be directly attributed to their relentless team defence, and Blicavs will be looking for more of the same from his team mates on Easter Monday as he attempts to keep Gunston under wraps. OUTCOME: These two teams are at vastly different stages in their development. While Geelong are gunning for a premiership, Hawthorn are rebuilding on the run. Having said that, clashes between these two clubs are typically tight affairs, and if round one form is anything to go by this match promises to be a beauty. The Hawks have a slight edge in terms of talent up forward, but modern-day football is won and lost in the midfield, and Geelong have greater depth in this area of the ground. Cats by 14 points. 63 Down, 19 to Go: How Close Were Our Predictions?
This afternoon, I came across this awe-inspiring, hype-creating tweet:
When you average the projected wins from Basketball Reference, FiveThirtyEight and ESPN, this is the outlook for the 2018 NBA playoffs.
Spoiler alert: the West is ridiculously tight… pic.twitter.com/eD3zyuHaqZ
— Andy Bailey (@AndrewDBailey) March 7, 2018
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently 6th in the Eastern Conference at 35-28. Basketball-Reference and ESPN BPI both have the Sixers projected to win 47 games, while FiveThirtyEight projected a 49-win season. All three models had the Sixers finishing in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference.
After some heated in-game debates in our Slack channel, I figured it was time to review the predictions the writing staff and podcast crew made prior to the season.
Predictions after the jump:
First, the Crossing Broadcast predictions from the post-Sixers/Celtics trade episode “Culmination and Compromise” (6/19/17):
Kyle: “I feel like if Embiid’s healthy and plays let’s call it 55 to 60+ games… you potentially have a rookie of the year on your roster. Embiid should be an All-Star level talent. Like just with Embiid last year there were points in the season where the Sixers were absolutely an above average team for small stretches, and it’s not like rattling off five or six wins in a row like we’ve seen the Phillies have done once…”
Adam: “What is your realistic expectation? You just said fourth. That’s a 49-win season and that’s not what the word realistic means.”
Kyle: “I will say they’re somewhere between a 5 or a 6 seed.”
Adam: “That’s a 42/43-win season.”
Kyle: “Yeah, they’re about a .500 club. Slightly better. Look at small stretches last year, they were an above-average team playing against some quality opponents and beating and competing with them. And it was just with Embiid for small stretches, so unlike – and I know you can say it’s a small sample size, it was five and six games here and there – this isn’t like baseball. Like, that happens in baseball– where bad teams will run off wins. That doesn’t happen like that in basketball. There’s going to be growing pains with these guys, no doubt about it, but besides just Fultz and Simmons, Embiid has enough experience, other than turnovers he wasn’t really making rookie mistakes. And it’s actually a fairly workable roster around all these guys, so I don’t think 5 or 6 is is out of the question by any stretch. Let alone, we’ll talk about this in a minute, if they add a somewhat decent or plus plus free agent over the off-season.”
Russ: It’s not much of a stretch to think that they couldn’t at least get up to like 6, because if Chicago ends up trading Jimmy Butler as part of, like, a massive package from from Boston – the future home of Jayson Tatum apparently – and Indiana trades Paul George… Paul George put Indiana in the worst possible predicament. While his his intentions were just in telling them that, like, “Hey, you guys are going to have to plan without me.” I don’t know what Indiana’s supposed to get for a one-year Paul George rental, but assuming that he goes as well, then there go your 7th and 8th seeds from last year. I don’t think like Miami hasn’t gotten any better, Detroit is a middling franchise, the Hornets, the Knicks, the Magic, and like you can easily get past those teams. And so then you’re nipping at the heels of like: the Bucks, the Hawks, if Kyle Lowry leaves the Raptors I have to assume they’re going to fall from number 3. So this really is contingent on can you get a guy like JJ Redick to come in? And if you can and you can get like a Gerald Henderson to stay on it on a team-friendly deal to provide depth and veteran leadership, there’s no reason they couldn’t get up to I would say sixth.”
Adam: “Yeah I think that’s the high-end. I think, to me, the low end is like the 36 to 38 wins, which would put you in like the 12th seed, which would be at 10-win improvement, which I think is pretty good. I think the hard question for me is the word “realistic”, because we have no idea how they’re going to be. And we’re not going to get the Summer League as a preview either. So it’s really hard to predict whether these guys are going to stay healthy. We don’t even know about Simmons or Fultz. The team could put them on minutes restrictions this season. You guys have always talked these last few weeks about the big name free agent this year. Unless you can get a guy like a JJ for like a 3 year deal or something like that. I don’t understand bringing a free agent into the unknown right now, where I would personally say let’s see this team for a year and then when we know what Simmons is actually going to do and what Fultz is actually going to do, and we can show the league how good they are, then you bring in a free agent to build alongside of that, because I don’t think they’ll make a run to the title this year, guys. They’re not going to the Eastern Conference finals, like I don’t even know what Simmons is. No one does. And I don’t think Redick is leaving L.A.”
Predictions:
Kyle: 43-39, 5th or 6th in the East
Russ: At least 6th in the East
Adam: 36-46, 12th in the East OR 38-44, 10th in the East
Analysis:
There’s plenty to unpack here. With the Sixers currently in 6th place in the East, both Kyle and I are on-track to be deadly accurate. Adam, however, needs the Sixers to go 1-18 or 3-16 to fulfill his prophecy, though it’s still conceivable that rudderless, inept franchises like the Hawks, Nets, Magic, Bulls and the Kristaps-less Knicks could finish behind that worst-case scenario.
Now to the writers.
Kevin Kinkead wrote a post on October 18th in which he did a full breakdown of the Sixers’ first 15 games and final 15 games. Kevin predicted a 41-41 finish (8th in the East), including a 5-10 start to the season, and a season-ending 10-5 run.
That leads us to the predictions from the rest of the crew:
Kyle: The Sixers have the potential to be GOOD when Embiid is healthy and if Fultz is a solid contributor. But there are also a lot of new faces, some with no NBA experience, and there are going to be some rough spots. Overall, figuring a mostly healthy Embiid and Fultz not needing surgery on his shoulder, the Sixers are pretty good and get into the playoffs with 42 wins.
Phil: Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. 40-42.
Russ: At the end of the season, with the Sixers 5th in the East at 46-36, Joel stands over the broken bodies of those who stood in his way. He pours out two Shirley Temples, smashes them together, throws them back and states to the masses, “Embiid 3:16 says I just whooped your ***.” Or should that be Process 3:16… Or Hinkie 3:16?
Coggin:What is best in life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.” 76ers 42-40.
Bob: So what if Markelle Fultz looks broken? Embiid stays relatively healthy, Simmons is ROY, and the Sixers go 43-39. They get the 7th seed and then they get wiped away by the Celtics in the first round. Basketball in Philly is back, BABY!
Chris: Joel’s minutes go up and he stays healthy. Markelle’s shot is still meh, but Ben wins Rookie of the Year. Sixers go 42-40 and get the 7th seed.
Investor Mike: Reverse psychology absolutely in play here, but the Sixers miss the 8th seed by way of a heartbreaking home loss to the Bucks on fan appreciation night. 40-42
Investor Jeff: Embiid plays 61 games, Sixers 36-25 when he plays. 7-14 when he sits. 43 wins, good for the 6th seed where they give Washington all they can handle in the first round before losing in 7.
Predictions:
Kyle: 42-40, make the playoffs
Phil: 40-42
Russ: 46-36, 5th in the East
Coggin: 42-40
Bob: 43-39, 7th in the East
Chris: 42-40, 7th in the East
Mike: 40-42, 9th in the East
Jeff: 43-39, 6th in the East
Analysis:
For a group that started that started with a win differential spread of six games, it’s incredible to see how our once-harmonious Slack channel devolved into the polarized, debate-filled house of representatives it is on game days. In a worst-case scenario, the Sixers win only five of their 19 remaining games and miss the playoffs. In the best-case scenario, they go 11-8, which is quite doable, and challenge for a top-five seed in the Eastern Conference. Not bad for a young team that someone once trashed in favor of their neighbors in the north.
I'm ready to Trust The Process. The Knicks' process. Inducing young talent to lose year after year isn't a process, it's negligence. #76ers

The Daily Tulip – News From Around The World
Thursday 26th October 2017
Good Morning Gentle Reader…. Well if your reading this on Facebook it means that I haven’t been blocked again, which makes a change….. I don’t know why, but the International Space Station crosses the sky here quite often, saw it this morning, along with two of three smaller satellites twinkling as they crossed the heavens… It seems like only yesterday, that the Russians launched Sputnik, no not the web based newspaper but the small satellite, that shocked the world and effectively started the Space Race back in the 1960’s .. what amazing steps we have taken since that auspicious moment… Man on the Moon, Voyager I and II leaving this Galaxy and venturing out into the unknown, and NASA's Cassini spacecraft wrapping up a 20 historic years in space, and collecting data as it crashed into Saturn's atmosphere and burned up like a meteor.,,, Boy.. haven’t we come a long way….
COUPLE'S AMAZON PACKAGE CONTAINED 65 POUNDS OF POT…. A Florida couple who ordered some storage totes from Amazon said their package arrived with a little something extra -- 65 pounds of marijuana. The Orlando woman said she and her fiancé ordered four 27-gallon storage totes from Amazon recently so they could put some items in storage. She said they were immediately suspicious when the packages arrived. "They were extremely heavy, heavier than you would think from ordering four empty bins," the woman, who did not want to be identified by name, told WFTV. She said the cause of the extra weight became clear from the smell when they opened the boxes. "When the first officer got here, she was in disbelief," the woman said. The boxes contained the plastic bins the couple ordered, but the totes themselves contained boxes filled with a total 65 pounds of marijuana. The package had been shipped by Amazon's Warehouse Deals via UPS from a Massachusetts facility. The marijuana was turned over to police and the couple spent more than a month attempting to get answers from Amazon in a series of email exchanges. The customers said they were never able to speak to a supervisor and they eventually received an email with a $150 gift card and a message saying: "I am unable to do anything else at this time." The couple said they only wanted an apology and an explanation. "There was no concern for a customer's safety. I mean, this could have turned into a worst-case scenario," the woman said. Amazon said it is cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the unusual incident.
A VALATIE, N.Y., WOMAN EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR CONFUSION IN JANUARY…. When a package arrived at her home that she thought was a box of toys she was due to review for her blog. Pamela Marks said the box was labeled as coming from JAKKS Pacific, a California-based company that makes toy tie-ins for companies including Disney and Nintendo, but she opened the package to discover it actually contained about 7 pounds of marijuana. Marks turned the package over to police and an investigation was launched.
STEPHEN HAWKING'S PHD THESIS CRASHES UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE WEBSITE…. The University of Cambridge's website crashed on Monday after posting famed theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking's PhD thesis online. The university in England made Hawking's thesis paper available to download online in a series of PDF files which drew droves of people to the website and caused it to crash. Hawking wrote the doctoral thesis titled "Properties of expanding universes" in 1966 when he was 24 years old and gave Cambridge permission to post it to the university's Open Access repository. "By making my PhD thesis Open Access, I hope to inspire people around the world to look up at the stars and not down at their feet; to wonder about our place in the universe and to try and make sense of the cosmos," Hawking, now 75 said. Before it was posted online, hundreds of people traveled to Cambridge every month to view a physical copy of the thesis. More than 200,000 digital objects including 15,000 research articles and 2,400 theses are available on the repository, called Apollo, and the university hopes Hawking's decision will encourage other great minds to make their work available. "Each generation stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before them, just as I did as a young PhD student in Cambridge, inspired by the work of Isaac Newton, James Clerk Maxwell and Albert Einstein," Hawking said. Dr. Arthur Smith, deputy head of scholarly communication at Cambridge, said all graduating PhD students will be required to deposit an electronic copy of their doctoral work for preservation. Hawking was flattered by the high demand to view his thesis and stressed the importance of providing a foundation for future scholars. "It's wonderful to hear how many people have already shown an interest in downloading my thesis - hopefully they won't be disappointed now that they finally have access to it!" he said. "Anyone, anywhere in the world should have free, unhindered access to not just my research, but to the research of every great and enquiring mind across the spectrum of human understanding."
RODIN SCULPTURE FOUND IN NEW JERSEY TOWN HALL…. An archivist in New Jersey discovered a multi-million dollar sculpture by French sculptor Auguste Rodin at a town hall. The bust of Napoleon Bonaparte was put on display at the Hartley Dodge Memorial building, which serves as the town of Madison's town hall, after curator of collections Mallory Mortillaro identified the work of art in 2014. Mortillaro discovered the bust pressed against a wall and recognized it as a possible Rodin before sliding her hand along the side of the sculpture to discover the famous artist's signature. "That's weird, I thought. Why does it say Rodin?" she said. The sculpture had been donated without paperwork so Mortillaro informed the trustees of her finding and emphatically encouraged them to authenticate the piece. "She said, 'You don't understand. I think we have a Rodin,'" Nicolas Platt, the foundation's president, said. Mortillaro reached out to various scholars to confirm the sculpture's authenticity before finally getting in contact with Rodin expert Jerome Le Blay, formerly of the Rodin Museum in Paris, who offered to fly from Paris to see the piece. The piece was ultimately authenticated, but an announcement was delayed due to insurance and security concerns. The Napoleon sculpture is worth at least $4 million, but Platt said the foundation has no plans to sell the unique piece of art. People are curators their entire lives and don't end up finding a blue whale in a boat. That's what [Mortillaro] did," Platt said. Mortillaro attended the unveiling and was on hand to answer questions about the sculpture and its origins. "It's a really special thing to be able to give to the world," she said.
JUSTIN TRUDEAU'S FAMOUS PANDA CUDDLE SCULPTED IN BUTTER…. A butter sculpture at the Canadian National Exhibition is drawing attention online for its adorable subject matter: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cuddling panda cubs. The sculpture, previewed in a photo tweeted by the exhibition's official Twitter account, is being molded by David Salazar and his team of artists at the Toronto event. The sculpture is based on a viral photo tweeted by Trudeau last year when he was given the opportunity to share a snuggle with the Toronto Zoo's giant panda cubs, Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue. "What is better than seeing yourself made of butter @JustinTrudeau!" the CNE tweeted. Salazar said his team of artists will be working on the Trudeau sculpture as well as more than a dozen others depicting animals that rose to viral fame, including the infamous Ikea monkey. "It's pretty funny working with butter. It's a little surreal," Salazar told the Toronto Star…. I had my palm greased to write this one, thought I would slip it in…..
Well Gentle Reader I hope you enjoyed our look at the news from around the world this, Thursday morning… …
