Caleb is a young man who stands at 6'2" (1.88 m). His light skin doesn't tan or burn easily. He maintains a toned frame. He inherited his mother's straight black hair & bright smile, in addition to his father's warm brown eyes. His clothing aesthetic is simple in his younger years, with him often throwing coats over a t-shirt & jeans. As he gets older, his profession requires him to dress formally, so his casual style is affected; he begins wearing flannels & long-sleeved shirts under sweaters & nice coats, as he feels encouraged to do so. He also goes from wearing contacts to glasses (he's farsighted) & he allows himself to grow some neatly-trimmed scruff.

Personality (tw: mental illness)

Caleb is a stereotypical Virgo, more or less: modest, hardworking, observant, intelligent, reliable, worrying & perfectionistic. People are drawn to his incredibly kind nature. He's a true friend who isn't afraid to stand up for others, even if he hardly knows the person who needs his help. Caleb puts 100% into everything he does, which means that he's a badass at what he loves, but it also means that (in his case) he struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. He's taken medication for it since he was a teen. Part of his anxiety definitely has to do with his family & friends, who he constantly tries to keep safe & happy. Caleb's worst trait is probably his stubborn streak; though it helps him persevere, he has trouble admitting when he's wrong & if he's suspicious of someone, he won't accept them into her inner circle. Though some in town aren't aware that he's bisexual, he's never actually been closeted. He just doesn't put it out there unless asked about it. Caleb might have one-night stands if he's lonely, but he prefers steady relationships (monogamous or polygamous). He only drinks alcohol if he's in an extreme depression & avoids it otherwise, due to his mother's condition.

History

Caleb was born to Evelyn & William (the III) Danvers, who had a decently sized fortune as a result of their family's past helping found their town of Ipswich. He was soon joined by his three friends Pogue, Reid & Tyler, who were also children of the founding families; all were dubbed the Sons of Ipswich. They did everything together, including inherit their share of the Power, the magical abilities that the oldest son of each founding family gets upon turning 13. By this time, Caleb had discovered his love for swimming, his crush on his best friend (Pogue) & his academic ability. Unfortunately, he was also old enough to notice both his father's declining health & his mother's resulting alcoholism. He tried to take care of his parents while maintaining a vibrant social life & making a path to Harvard Law. Caleb managed, but before he turned 18 his father would be moved to the groundskeeper's home, as the man required 24-hr care. Only a year after, he'd meet Sarah Wenham & Chase Collins. While dating Sarah, he was surprised to learn that Chase not only had a crush on him, but that Chase also wielded the Power & was out to steal it from Caleb & his friends after killing them. After a duel, Caleb ended up with his father's Power (as the older man sacrificed himself). Chase was nowhere to be found. Caleb would end up with nightmares & serious PTSD stemming from that event. However, he successfully got into Harvard & became a prosecutor years later, all while still friends with the boys from his childhood.

About:

Caleb was the golden boy at Spencer Academy, looking to get in at Princeton. He was also the eldest of the four sons of Ipswitch, a group of families that dated back to to the old Salem trials. Most thought it just old folklore, but the four sons knew different. They were gifted with the Power, the ability to use magic and cast spells, though it came at a cost. At 18, the power would merge with their life forces, and it was addictive. When new student Chase Collins came to town, no one thought much of it. Until someone was using enough to disturb the boys out of dead sleeps. It became a race against time to find out who it was before more people died, and by the time they figured it out, a well laid plan had already been set in motion. In a battle at the old Putnam Barn, Caleb beat Chase in a fight and the four sons went on with life. Caleb went on to propose to his girlfriend Sarah, and the worries of the past were long forgotten.

Until the accident.

It was a miracle Caleb even survived, but once he woke, he didn't know anyone. It took weeks for him to even remember his long time friends. It took a toll on Sarah and eventually, she left. Caleb started a life on his own, accepting that he might never remember his past. He was still against using his power, and he found a life for himself with a decent sized loft and having a cat.

The Covenant: Holiday Gift Giving

Caleb Danvers

This boy takes the methodical approach and has been planning the gift for months, perusing different sales, comparing promotions, and pouring over product reviews.

Normally buys it during bright and early Black Friday (emphasis on Friday because he’s not a believer on going out Thanksgiving Day.

However, has bought things earlier in the year when a deal was too good to pass up.

Gift always comes immaculately wrapped. Caleb himself isn’t all that good at wrapping but he makes sure to get it done by a professional (which ends up being his mom most times.)

Pogue Parry

Pogue is pretty terrible at giving gifts. That’s not to mean that he doesn’t care, he just shows it in other ways like taking you out for lunch once a week or fixing up the leaky shower head at your place.

The only times he bothers with giving gifts are your birthday, your anniversary, and the winter holidays.

Still, it’s at the back of his mind so he usually ends up doing something last minute, much to Caleb’s appall. But once he puts it on his mental list of things to do, he’s very decisive and able to pick something, and buy it, all within the same day.  

Foregoes a wrapped gift and will either just give you the thing outright, or, if he’s feeling particularly motivated, will stick it in a gift bag with a piece or two of extra crinkled tissue paper.

Reid Garwin

He may come off as being self-centered, especially at the start of the relationship, but actually enjoys gift giving and is really good at it.

Doesn’t quite go to Caleb’s level of organization (spreadsheets and Reid don’t get along) but he’s more observative than people give him credit for, which is a product of him trying to out do Caleb for so many years.

That cute thing on Etsy that you had pulled up as a tab for two weeks straight on your laptop? Or that time you turned up the radio full blast when a tour promo for your favorite band came on? Whenever you gushed to him about your latest fixation? Yeah, he tucked that information away for later.

Will spoil you with gifts no matter what time of the year it is, no matter if there’s a big occasion for it. Competent enough with wrapping paper (don’t expect something super fancy but his lines are straight and everything is smoothed down) and will wrap presents himself.

Tyler Simms

Actually the worst gift giver of the bunch, even if it’s not intentional. It’s just that you’re his whole world, and he doesn’t want to mess up and give you the wrong thing.

As the youngest of the boys, he’s used to them giving him advice/ideas in all areas of his romantic relationships, so when left to his own devices, he’s super indecisive about deciding what to get you. Combine that indecisiveness with his anxious tendency to procrastinate, and he has been known to not get you anything at all.

Is trying to get better with this as he gets older but giving presents still stresses him out. It’d be so much easier if he could just take you out for a walk and shower you with compliments, or something. And if you have your heart set on something, it’s better to just tell him upfront rather than giving him hints.

Still, you’ve loved each gift that he’s managed to give you and he wears a big smile for the rest of the day after you told him so.

The level of gift depends on the stage of the relationship.

If it’s the getting to know each other/honeymoon stage, expect presents of the classic romantic variety. (The boy is talented at winning people over.) 

But if it’s a long-term, established thing, you can expect the exact opposite, which is him giving borderline prank presents. You like cars? Have fun with your new crocs that have custom Hot Wheels flames printed on the sides. Are you dying for new things to decorate your desk with? Congratulations, you are the proud, new owner of a set of horribly painted, bootlegged Lord of The Rings figures. 

Is one of those people who will put the present in multiple layers of box, only to have a roll of toilet paper inside of it all because he noticed you were running low.

Chasing Hearts, Chapter 1

Word Count: 1.6k

“You know what’s best for the covenant,” Chase teased, “right, Danvers? Don’t want to risk losing it all because of me.”

“Stop, Chase.”

“Too much of a child to do the job of a man,” he growled, looking at the other three from behind his magically bound chains, “just kill me, you cowards!”

“For once I agree with the asshole,” Pogue growled, looking at the fifth boy of Ipswich, “we should make him will his powers to us. Just like he tried to do to you. Then kill him.”

“Enough, Chase. The five families are to stay intact,” Caleb commanded. Pogue’s jaw clenched, and he turned to his best friend, “you know it’s what’s best for the town. In order for Ipswich to stay safe, we have to make sure we don’t alter the book. Killing him would do that.”

Reid and Tyler looked at one another unsure of what exactly was going on, but it was Reid that spoke, “he tried to force you into it, Caleb. He tried to take your powers. Hell when we caught him we barely were able to contain him-with all four of us.”

“You two hadn’t ascended yet,” Caleb replied, defending his friends’ powers. In the months following the capture of Chase, both the younger boys had ascended, “and you guys have gotten a lot stronger than when we first caught Collins.”

“It doesn’t feel right,” Tyler told his friends, “doing this to him…I don’t think we should kill him like Pogue wants, but we can’t keep him in the first house like this.”

“Which is why we’re going to bind his powers,” Caleb replied, looking back to Chase. Chase’s eyes tried to go black, so that he could use his own power to get out of whatever plan Danvers had concocted, but it was quickly shut down by the magic that already bound him, his eyes going to the faded blue they normally were, “he tried to fuck with Pogue and I. Tried to take away Kate and Sarah…but I can see right through him…you were jealous of the love we got from them. Thought that’s what made us stronger.”

“It was your weakness,” he spat angrily, deciding that if he couldn’t get out, he’d piss him off even more, “you’re all weak.”

“And it’s your weakness too,” Caleb pointed out. He licked his lips and looked to Reid and Tyler, “when Pogue and I looked at the records, we saw he was adopted…but his adoptive family became afraid of him when they realized what he was. Our families have always loved us. Our girls love us…and he’s jealous of that.”

“I’m not jealous of shit,” Chase snarled, “you pretentious prick.”

Caleb chuckled, “you’re one to speak, Collins.”

“So what did you wanna do?” Tyler asked, “why did you call all of us here? He’s already bound in the chains.”

“I need your help…all of you,” he replied looking around the room to his friends, then looking back to Chase, “you’ll get to live…but a life of one without love, until you learn how to be a better man. Your magic will be bound to your body, and you’ll be unable to use it for the ill intentions like the ones you’ve resorted to at your time at Spenser academy.”

Chase’s jaw clenched and Pogue smiled, “you think it’ll take with the four of us?”

Caleb nodded, calling the book of damnation. It went to the summoning circle, and a wall of flames lit around it, illuminating it. The pages flipped until it reached the spell he was looking for. Reid’s eyes lit up, “Kolgrim’s curse.”

Chase’s own eyes went wide, “you wouldn’t.”

“Kolgrim’s curse,” Pogue explained, “his beloved bewitched him, and he was killed in her stead. They believed him to be the witch. His mother cursed her so that she would die alone, every lover she took would abandon her. Seems fitting for how he tried to take Kate from me.”

“Mix that with some of Berrymole’s bind,” Caleb finished, “and his powers will be bound to the type of man he is. What do you think, Collins? Ready to become a better man?”

“Fucking hell,” Chase growled as he took another sip from the stale beer on his nightstand. The woman he’d spent the night with was already gone, and he knew that she’d only showed to their date in the first place because of his very well-known reputation. He looked at his phone, saw that he’d missed a few calls and texts from his girlfriend, “Fuck.”

Picking up his phone he dialed her number, “Chase…oh my god are you okay? I’ve been trying to get ahold of you for hours.”

“I’m fine,” he sighed, laying back in his bed. He pulled out a cigarette and lit up, “What’s wrong?”

“I-I just couldn’t get a hold of you…and when Gem sa-“

“Gem…really?”

“Are you fucking other girls, Chase?”

“What? No. I’d never cheat on you, Ni-“

He felt a small pang in the pit of his stomach, but quickly pushed it away. He didn’t need to get attached.

They always left.

“Gem said you fucked her.”

He felt his eyes growing black as his anger overtook him, until a small shock caught him in the chest. His power faded away and he internally cursed.

“Son of a bitch.”

“Is it true?”

“I’ve never fucked Gem!”

“But that’s not saying you never cheated,” Chase was quiet. Nikita sighed on the other side of the line, “we’re done, Chase…I can’t do it anymore…have fun being alone, asshole.”

And then Chase was left with a dead line and an empty bed. Sighing to himself once more, he took another swig from the stale beer and cringed. Finishing off his cigarette, he put it in the tray and looked around the room.

How had this become his life?

In Ipswich, he’d been so thoughtful with his planning. So careful. He’d worked so hard once he found out who he was when he was thirteen. His efforts and planning went all the way up to his eighteenth birthday, making sure his adoptive parents’ deaths looked like an accident.

Perfect grades.

Extracurriculars like the swim team.

The trust in place.

And then he’d gotten into Spenser academy.

And then he came in contact with the others.

The four boys of Ipswich. Caleb Danvers, Pogue Parry, Reid Garwin, and Tyler Simms. None of them had ascended like he had. They were all still seventeen, at least for a few more weeks. None of them were really aware of what they’d be able to do. The power that they could wield.

But when that little shit finally did, he ruined his plans. He’d managed to escape, but they hunted him down. They captured him, forced him into the covenant’s first house. He was chained up like an animal in magically reinforced iron. He was a prisoner for months while they figured out what to do with him.

Until that fateful night.

Pope’s Prayer.

It was written in the book of damnation now. His legacy, a binding spell that would not only slow the progression in his aging, a welcomed side effect, but made it so that his magic was contained in a way that none of the others were forced to endure.

“Why don’t we just kill him?”

Caleb looked back to Pogue and sighed, admitting the truth to them, “we can’t.”

“Why not?” Reid asked suddenly, stepping forward as Chase stood, bound in the summoning circle, “he’s bound now…”

“The book of damnation records all births and deaths…his page is mostly empty…but the date on it isn’t for a death.”

The four boys looked to Chase, and his breath hitched.

A baby.

The continuation of the Pope line.

“So, you bound him to become a better man in hopes that what?” Reid scoffed, “that his bastard won’t be as much of a bastard as his father. Hate to break it to you Danvers, but you’re too optimistic. Whatever comes out of his balls is going to be just as much of a prick as he is.”

“No,” he muttered, shaking his head, “so that it has a chance. The ink hasn’t dried on the date…that means that it’s only a possibility for now…not a reality. He’s never even met the future mother of his child yet…which means she doesn’t know the kind of man he is. This could give the future a chance.”

Pogue swallowed as Reid and Tyler shook their heads, walking away from the circle. Chase watched them go up the steps and the door closed heavily. It was obvious that neither one agreed with Caleb’s plans, but they weren’t going to argue over something that was in the book. Especially knowing that Pogue would back Caleb up no matter what.

“Why?”

Caleb looked to Chase, “why what?”

It flipped in front of Chase, until the pages showed a family tree that was being drawn. On one side were the Danvers, on the other the name Pope was displayed. On the left, there was a dotted line between Sarah and Caleb, showing that she was going to be the future mother of his children. Between them were blotted out dots, possible future children between them. But what caught Chases’ attention was the Pope side. His name had lines next to a blotted-out dot. A woman he had yet to meet, and there, below them was a single dot, connecting itself to the Danver’s side, “keeping you alive ensures that the covenant continues on, Collins. Trust me, it’s not exactly what I want either…but I have to look out for all of us.”

Okay, so I got extremely bored the other night...and completely recasted the Covenant. Lol just because. For one, I think the cast could use more diversity(LIKE CRAZY) and for two- why not🤷‍♀️

It was def and excuse for me for do a dream cast of hot talented guys who I wish I could see on screen together. So FYI- I don’t dig that male gaze bullshit the director was in so they would def all be college aged, like they should’ve been! lol this is extensive and unnecessary but idk it kept me busy and tbh I’d pay big bucks to see this cast together.

So first off is mr main character himself, Caleb Danvers. Don’t get me wrong I love myself some Steven Strait but I don’t think he did the character justice. Now Keith Powers?! He would kill this role.

Okay so Pouge Parry was kind of the hardest? But then I thought if BoobooStewart and was like omg perfect long haired hottie!

Reid Garwin was EASY. Omg. This one I had off the top of my head and if you’ve ever seen Hemlock Grove you know why. Bill Skarsgard is fucking PERFECT. So assholey and conflicted and just a cry baby on the inside.

Tyler Simms really tripped me up. I had to sit and think what his character was even about, who he even was cause real shit Chase Crawford acts like a Ken doll lol. But once I got shithead with a pure soul? Alex Wolff was all I could picture.

Okay so I always loved Kate Tunney- and I was cool with her casting but I love Yara Shahidi and I think she would be perffffff. Plus her and Booboo as a couple? Jesus wept. Beautiful.

Okay Sarah Wenham was kind of hard, just because I couldn’t really stand her in the movie. They did her basic white girl dirty. So I sat and bubbled up my own back story for her and no one fit her better then Lili Reinhart.

And last but certainly not least, our murder baby. I literally couldn’t think of anyone who could match Sebastian Stan for this role...and then I started watching Baby on Netflix(which I highly recommend) and oh holy shit. Lorenzo Zurzolo is perfect for Chase Collins. He’s so...tortured and handsome and charming. Omg.
