this is a cackling goose! aka a cackler. cacklers are colored exactly like canadian geese, they’re just smaller, roughly the size of a mallard duck. And if you think you probably wouldve noticed the fact that some canada geese youve seen seem suspiciously small, you probably wouldn’t have. most people don’t know of their existence, despite their decently large range

they are imho extremely cute given both their size and their dainty little beaks, especially when seen next to their larger cousins

they also have a surprising amount of variety in size and neck shape and the presence of that white ring around their neck or not, yet they all interbreed with each other.

They also come in massive flocks, sometimes in the thousands, while canada geese tend to travel in smaller groups.

so if you see a cloud of geese blotting out the sky and filling the air with honks, or you see some canada geese that have cute little beaks and are much less menacingly large, then say hello to your friends the cacklers
