As the brunette read the card she placed it down, looking over to her right. She held no real tender connection to the male. Whereas her secrets fueled her own existence at the moment. To be honest -- it could’ve been Oprah who sat beside her and she would still be contemplating it. The only downfall of this entire game was no one was beside her. Had there been she would’ve begged them not to spill anything and let her go. Let her join her family and child on the other end. “I can’t do this. It’s not cause I think the worst of you. It’s cause -- this fails to note that if I tell you something then I am also in a way killing myself.” And though she wasn’t the poster child for handling grief as it was shown as she kept wearing her wedding bands and keeping Liam alive in some areas of her life as well as her daughter. She was miles ahead from the woman that once had been a shell of person barely able to get up and she couldn’t risk it just to see pity from this man’s eyes.  “Besides with what I’ve heard I am sure a wtich will have you up and running in a couple of months.”

Being tempted by Mikael in the strangest of places seemed to be a weekly occurence. They weren't in the office, by they were sitting near a heated pool in a fancy spa on the rooftop. No one had bothered them for twenty minutes and that was enough time for Eric to get his hands on the other man. He pushed his swimsuit down far enough till he got a nice view at those round cheeks. "I've wanted to do this ever since we lied down for those massages earlier." He spoke while moving his right hand to spread Mikael's cheeks. The older of the two then leaned forward, spitting on his entrance. "Think you can keep quiet this time?" Eric asked while rubbing the spit over the rim with his thumb.

do you have any good fluttercord fic recs?

OH BOY DO I. In no particular order (except of when I thought of them):

1: Non-Entity by Captain Wuzz: An AU in which, instead of being turned to stone, Discord was shot in the head with a magic arrow that takes away his sentience and magic for a 1,000 years. Fluttershy mistakes him for a wounded animal and brings him home. I loved it so much.

2: Chaotic Neutral by C-Puff: The magic is starting to fade from Equestria, and the Main 6 and Discord go on an adventure to find out why, and reverse it. A bit of AU, in the sense it was written before the show was done, so it diverts in some places because of that. Super sweet, and I love the character development here.

3: Time is Taller than Space is Wide by Dott. Can also be read on Ao3 if you prefer. Soulmate AU (?) fic with a Groundhog Day style twist. I rarely see fics play with the idea of what if Fluttershy and Discord's friendship had started when they first met, so this is fun.

4 & 5: Blank and it's sequel Reconnection by @geekcat. Can also be read on fanfic.net. AU in which, before Discord can choose friendship over ruling Equestria, Twilight remembers a "reformation" spell. He is stripped of his free will, and Fluttershy does her best to bring him back. If you don't like the idea of Twilight being a villain, you might not like this one, but I think her villain arc in this is done in a perfect way for her character. It's super heart wrenching in many places, but in a good way.

6: Our Fair Lady of the Chaos Lord, also by GeekCat Can also be read on fanfic.net. Fairy tale inspired AU in which Fluttershy is a princess who's father is pressuring her to marry noble knight Sir Big Mac. Wanting to be sure he's a good person, she makes a deal with the Chaos Lord, letting herself be "kidnapped" so she can test his character. You can guess who she falls for instead. Honestly I've enjoyed all of GeekCat's fics, so they're getting an extra mention. Check out the rest of their fluttercord fics if you like any of these.

7: The Draconequus with the Dragon Tattoo by A M Shark This is a major case of, strange premise, kick ass results. Basically an AU based off Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson, with Discord as Lisbeth, and Fluttershy as an amalgamation of Mikael and several other characters, but focusing more on the murder mystery aspect of that book, and less on the...everything else. If you're familiar with GwtDT, don't worry, there's no rape scenes. Again, it's more about the murder mystery part. If you're not familiar with GwtDT, then don't worry again, because you don't need to know the original to enjoy it. It's just Discord and Fluttershy playing detective and solving a murder together. It has two sequels, but I haven't read them yet, and it didn't feel right to rec something I haven't read.

8: The Corpse Bride by Bad Horse. Dark fic. No relation to the Burton movie. Fluttershy dies in a tragic accident, and Discord brings her back from the dead as his zombie wife. Her friends (sans Pinkie) are horrified. Has a fantastic twist ending. If you like some of the darker stuff, def worth a read.

Bonus: Comic rec: The Last Adventure by Eveeka. Taking place after the final defeat of Tirek, Cozy, and Chrysalis, Discord gets into a depressive funk after shouldering the hatred from Ponyville citizens for his latest actions, but also because his friends seem to never be available anymore. He starts to think maybe Equestria would be better off without him, as he can't seem to exist with out making everyone miserable, and decides to hide away in the Everfree forest. Fluttershy, worried when he doesn't show up for tea, asks her friends for help, only to discover there's a monster running lose there he and the rest of Equestria might be in danger from. This fic has two endings, so keep reading even when it seems like it's over. You've got one more ending left. This one nearly made me cry.

If you're a Damon or Katherine fan, I really don't recommend you read this. But if you dislike them as much as me, go ahead.

I was (stupidly) one of the few people that chose to think Damon didn't rape Caroline, because Pl*c said he didn't. And like, I prefer to believe that, not because I like Damon, I despise him, but because the amount of sexual abuse this show has is disgusting.

Tyler trying to rape Vicky, Damon raping Caroline, Katherine raping Stefan, etc. And damn, perhaps even when Klaus made out with Caroline while he was in Tyler's body.

Do I think he would have slept with her? No, but the fact that Caroline had already took her shirt off and Klaus didn't stop her until later always felt off for me. I don't think he would have raped her, at all. I don't see any of the Mikaelson as the rape type, perhaps Mikael, but not even then.

But anyways, while scrolling through Google, I decided to search how Julie actually "confirmed" Damon didn't rape Caroline, and honestly it's just pathetic.

What does this even mean? Caroline herself said he abused her, AND fed on her. I mean, the quote is literally "I remember how you manipulated me. You pushed me around, abused me, erased my memories. Fed on me."

Yes, Caroline consented to sex the first time, but after that? He fed on her, and raped her as well.

And Katherine raped Stefan as well, I'm pretty sure. When she began compelling him, to "go on exactly like they wanted", he literally wasn't mentally able to consent to a romantic relationship with her, less alone sexual. And Stefan was 17, exactly the same age Caroline was when Damon raped her.

So, if I'm correct, Katherine raped Stefan, Damon raped Caroline and Andy, Tyler tried to force himself on Vicky and I think it's implied Stefan is a rapist as well in a flashback, but I'm not too sure because the last time I saw TVD (other than seasons 3/4) was in 2018, right when it ended, but the whole thing is him being seen with naked women and blood all over them while he had his humanity off I think. Anyway, disgusting.

I don't think the writers intented for them to be considered rapists, especially if we take into account the three of them are fan favorite. But it was 2009, a lot of things were taken lightly and I'm 100% sure TVD wouldn't have made it past the pilot if it had been streamed in 2020.

And yeah, every single character is a murderer on this show, but there's a difference between them. Both are traumatic and both are unforgiving, and in real life no one wants to be through that (I've seen people compare Elena and Caroline's trauma, her being raped and the first being abused by Klaus, which it's disgusting, there is no need to compare them). But if you're gonna bring one of them to fiction, always chose murder. Because in murder there may be a "redeeming" quality that explains why you did it, but rape? It's completely disgusting, it's awful and there is nothing that will ever excuse taking someone's free will like that.

But anyways: The Vampire Diaries is racist, rapist and a lot of things I'm for sure forgetting now. It's really hard to be a fan of this show sometimes, but I still like it, though I'm more of a fan of The Originals. And that show has problems of it's own, considering it made Elijah look racist and made Klaus sympathize with a group of vampires that the show recognized as nazis.

𝐅𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄- Elijah x Fem oc!

Summary: Liliana and Elijah has been married for a millennium, their marriage was forced by Mikael Mikaelson and her father, though they had a mutual agreement; in front of praying eyes and nosy people they would act has an affectionate and loving couple but behind closed doors they would act differently.

Now, almost millennia later, Elijah's platonic feelings had turned into romantic feelings for his wife that had stuck with him through everything, even when he was at a time where he had loved other women in a way he hadn't with her and he realises just how sacred Liliana has been all this time.

𝐅𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄 is all he'd ever shown, all he'd ever know with her, despite being married to Liliana for almost a millennium. He doesn't understand how to love her.

But with Hayley it's different, Elijah understood how to love her, how to make her smile, how to get her to laugh, but that love didn't least, she'd left him and married Jackson.

They had similarities, well at least in Elijah's eyes he saw similarities between the two women, yet his love for each woman was different. But what can he make of this? what can he make of actually feeling something for Liliana?

She was a closed book, often reserved and quiet yet loud and brutal all at once like time ticking bomb. She'd been since he had met her, and no matter how hard Elijah tried he just couldn't woo her, sway her, get her to feeling at least something for him.

So why does he love her? was he because they'd been together for so long his platonic feelings turned into romantic? he had thought numerous times throughout the day, often wondering the possibilities of Liliana showing him she did in fact care.

It was a warm summer night, Elijah had saved his brother from yet, another one of his crazy antics and had wanted to come home and just sit back and Realx when he had stumble upon his wife,

half bare, standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom, slightly lent forward, wearing red and black lace underwear with a plain black shirt hanging from her slim shoulders as she fixed herself up.

She looked breathtaking, half awake, short Raven black hair messliy hung just slightly above her shoulders. And for the first time he had looked at her, really looked at her, taking in her appearance for once rather then being occupied with a book and a glass of whisky.

His eyes glazed over her slim body, seeing the scars and burn marks on her uper back and torso some new and most old, a frown forming on his face, had he been so blind all this time? when had she gotten them? and why hadn't he known in the first place? Elijah didn't dare to let his gaze wonder lower then it always was.

But he felt stupid, ashamed, and regretful he had neglected his duty towards her as her husband, he felt self conflicted about this, when didn't she just tell him? why hadn't she gone to him for help? and why hadn't he bee— ''You know it's quite rude to stare at one for a long period of time without speaking a word to them.''

He tore his gaze reluctantly away from the burn and scars marks on her body, shifting to meet her gaze finding her already staring at him. a faint flush plastered on her pale skin.

''I—..I apologise dearest Liliana I seem to have gotten...'' He began to explain not before he heard her laughter fill the bathroom, a genuine and sweet laugh, one he hadn't ever heard before.

''Lost in looking at my scars? please, they are old...well, most of them are,'' Elijah watched his wife, watching the smile that looped onto her lips and the small shake of her head. She truly was breathtaking.

then a quiet silence falls upon them, the pair just silently watching the other, Liliana tilted her head one way, her raven black hair following suit.

Elijah's mind was racing, questions erupting, and unspoken words filling his mind. desperately trying to say something, anything to break the silence that fell upon them.

then, without thinking he blurred out the first words that came to mind.

''How did you get them?''

''Which ones?''

''All of them, old and new, I would like to know where and whom you have gotten them from.''

And suddenly, he felt the rush of shame run through his whole body, regretting the words as soon as they left his mouth.

''I apologise again, dearest Liliana—''

''It's okay, you're okay. You don't need to apologise for being curious Lijah.''

With her reassuring words, he calmed himself a bit, maybe..just maybe, they could be something more then a couple in a loveless marriage

I don't know if you've answered this question before, but do you have favorite Phantom/Christine pairings?

I have answered it before, but not too recently, so maybe it's time to make a big ole updated masterpost of all my favorites as of now!

Keep in mind that if a name isn't on here, it doesn't mean they're not a favorite or whatever, it might just mean I never saw them with a Phantom or Christine I particularly liked (e.g. Gina Beck is an all-time favorite but she's not on here because I never really saw her opposite a Phantom I also really enjoyed) or I preferred a slightly different pairing (e.g. I really liked Franc D'Ambrosio with Lisa Vroman but I slightly preferred the latter with Brad Little). And there may be one or two where I could not decide at all (e.g. do I prefer Kelly Mathieson with David Thaxton or Josh Piterman? I can't tell!). Anyway, here they are:

Michael Crawford/Sarah Brightman - The OG cast. It can't be helped, they both had such unique takes on the role and it makes them one of the most memorable pairings for me.

Dave Willetts/Jan Hartley Morris - His rougher take on the mold that Crawford left vs. Jan Hartley Morris's old-school, classical Christine is a winner.

Mikael Samuelson/Elisabeth Berg - I love Samuelson's slightly harsher vocals compared to Berg's operatic tones.

Alexander Goebel/Luzia Nistler - Goebel is eerie, ghostly, and unhinged at the end; Nistler has a lovely classical voice and a scared, slightly naive take on her Christine. It fits well.

Davis Gaines/Tracy Shayne - Gaines is commanding, sensual, elegant; Shayne is innocent but with a touch of maturity that brings a certain uniqueness to the role.

Saulo Vasconcelos/Irasema Terrazas - Hands! I think both were allowed a lot of freedom in the role and it's great.

Hans Peter Janssens/Ineke van Klinken - Janssens is both very nuts and very sad while van Klinken is a reserved yet steely-willed Christine who is more than a match for him.

Ian Jon Bourg/Alison Kelly - Bourg is good with so many Christines, but I loved Alison Kelly's feistiness.

Michael Nicholson/Olivia Safe - Just a fascinating pairing, and they were both understudies!

Yoon Young Seok/Hye Kyoung Lee - It didn't matter that both were speaking Korean, they were so emotional that I felt like I understood every aspect of their performance.

Brad Little/Lisa Vroman - Kind of mentioned above, but I love how well these two act together.

Hugh Panaro/Julie Hanson - Hugh Panaro is a sarcastic jokester of a man and it makes you really feel for Julie Hanson's child-like Christine at the end of the show.

Gary Mauer/Elizabeth Southard - A real-life married E/C couple brings all the chemistry!

Earl Carpenter/Rachel Barrell - Barrell is also really good with JOJ, and more spirited around him, but I love Earl Carpenter more.

John Cudia/Jennifer Hope Wills - Oh the sparks these two brought to the role! Cudia was scary and dominating but JHW was absolutely able to hold her own against him.

Simon Pryce/Julie Goodwin - The voices of these two!

Marcus Lovett/Anna O'Byrne - Leroux-accuracy heaven.

Jeremy Stolle/Samantha Hill - Again, I've seen these two give fantastic performances with multiple performers, but I really do love what they bring to the show together.

Tomas Ambt Kofod/Sibylle Glosted - Very detailed, nuanced performances in a production that was full of it.

Jonathan Roxmouth/Meghan Picerno - There was fire between these two! Roxmouth was intent on bending Christine to his will but Picerno was so fiercely independent that you knew he could never succeed.

Jeon Dong Seok/Son Ji-soo - JDS is a swoon-worthy Phantom while SJS brought lovely expressions to the role.

And I'm sure there are many others...

New NHL Captains

Another little offseason thought exercise for fun. So, in this scenario, all of the current captains have either retired, been traded, or are just not playing hockey anymore for different reasons. So, I'm going to give my nominations for totally new captains and alternates for each team, and why. One of my choices will be controversial, but all will be explained, don't worry!

Anaheim Ducks - C: Cam Fowler. A: Mason McTavish, Troy Terry, and Brian Dumoulin.

Anaheim doesn't currently have a captain and hasn't since Getzlaf retired. But, Cam Fowler seems to be captain-by-proxy for right now. He's been on the team since forever, is a well respected veteran, and seems to be the natural choice. It kinda baffles me that he doesn't have the C already, actually. McTavish, Terry, and Dumoulin would make worthy Alts and that leadership core would be so well balanced, especially with Dumoulin's two cup wins.

Boston Bruins - C: David Pastrnak. A: Charlie McAvoy, and Brandon Carlo

Boston are a unique team in that they seem to have a kind of line of succession. Chara > Bergeron > Marchand. So, if Marchand were to retire or leave the team, the next in line would definitely be Pastrnak. He's been a Bruin since he was drafted, is enmeshed in the team's leadership, and is good with media as he is on the ice. Another European captain would also tie up this line by coming full circle. McAvoy and Carlo as Alts would further tie the team to the city, without overfilling the leadership core.

Buffalo Sabres - C: Alex Tuch. A: Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson, and Dylan Cozens

Buffalo also currently do not have a captain, and only have one lettered player (Rasmus Dahlin). But, Alex Tuch is a no-brainer choice for me, he's from Syracuse, he grew up supporting the team, and stepped into a leadership role as soon as he arrived in Buffalo from Vegas. Dahlin would make an excellent primary Alt, especially given the fact he was drafted by the team. Thompson and Cozens are the faces of the team, so would round out the young Alternate Core with a veteran Captain.

Calgary Flames - C: Jonathan Huberdeau. A: Rasmus Andersson, Nazem Kadri, and MacKenzie Weegar.

This core doesn't change too much from the current one, and is basically what I think would happen if Mikael Backlund were to retire or leave the team. Calgary are not short on leaders, but Huberdeau would be the natural next captain, with his years of experience, and with how well regarded he is within the team and the league as a whole. The Alternates don't really change, I think Calgary have really nailed their leadership core in so many ways.

Carolina Hurricanes - C: Jaccob Slavin. A: Sebastian Aho, Jordan Martinook, and Martin Necas

Again, Carolina have such a tight leadership core. Aho might be the most obvious next captain, but Slavin has been around longest, and is likely the captain-elect for whenever Jordan Staal decides to call it a day. So, he's the natural next in line as well, just like with Pasta in Boston. Martinook also retains his letter, and Necas gains one. Overall, I think Slavin would be a great captain, he's a veteran on the team, and has won two Lady Byng trophies for Carolina, a good set of hands.

Chicago Blackhawks - C: Nick Foligno. A: Seth Jones, Connor Murphy, and Connor Bedard

Another obvious one, even if I hate this team, and it'd likely be a temporary captaincy to open the door for Bedard to assume the role later. But, Bedard is still a teenager, and can't even legally drink in the US yet. So, Foligno is the logical call here, he's been around for years, he's already assuming leadership in Chicago, is mentoring Bedard, and has also been a captain already. There's no one better for it, really. I could see this being similar to the Mario-Sid setup, a veteran captain mentoring his heir for the role.

Colorado Avalanche - C: Nathan MacKinnon. A: Mikko Rantanen, Cale Makar, and Devon Toews.

Honestly, I'd not be surprised to see this one happen in the not too distant future. Especially if Gabe is too injured to come back. Nate is the captain-elect already in a lot of ways. He's been part of the fabric of Colorado for over a decade, has won numerous awards, and a cup for the team. As for Captain Nate's Alts, Mikko keeps his A of course. Cale gets one permanently, and will likely be the next in line. And, Devon has more than earned one himself.

Columbus Blue Jackets - C: Zach Werenski. A: Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau.

This one wasn't too hard, Columbus are a team that really needs something to click into place. But, if Boone Jenner ever left, I'd say Zach Werenski is the only real option for the captaincy. Some may even say it should've been his instead. Werenski seems to be a bit more lowkey in the media, so I'd have his Alts be the more media popular Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. A smaller core, but it could work out.

Dallas Stars - C: Mason Marchment. A: Esa Lindell, Miro Heiskanen, and Jason Robertson.

Now, I know you're all asking 'Where's Tyler Seguin?'. But, honestly, can you see Jamie and Tyler not retiring together? I can't. So, in that event, you'd need a totally fresh core. Marchment is young enough to retain the post for a long time, but not so young that you'd be putting a kid in charge of adults. A perfect rebuild era type captaincy. With Lindell keeping his letter, same for Miro. And, the young superstar of the team, Jason Robertson, being another Alt. A perfect rebuild core, I'd say.

Detroit Red Wings - C: Ben Chiarot. A: JT Compher and Tyler Motte.

Another smaller leadership core, Original Six teams tend to trend that way for some reason. Chiarot, Compher, and Motte would be quite the nice and cohesive leadership core. Chairot is already a leader on the team as it is now, and has been around for a while in the league too. So, he'd make a good captain for an aging veteran core going for one more playoff push before a rebuild era. Compher gets an A, he's won a cup, and has lead the Avalanche in the room as well. Motte also gets an A for his off ice impact, namely his charity work.

Edmonton Oilers - C: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. A: Evan Bouchard and Jeff Skinner.

Again, you may be wondering 'What about Leon Draisaitl?' And, again, I just cannot see Connor and Leon not playing together. They're too much a package deal. So, in the event of both retiring. Nugent-Hopkins is the natural next captain, he's also a career Oiler, has been part of their core and backbone since day one, and helped lead the team to the cup finals. Bouchard and Skinner would round out the core as his Alts. Honestly, I'm surprised Nurse's A hasn't been re-assigned already.

Florida Panthers - C: Aaron Ekblad. A: Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Verhaege, and Sam Bennett.

I don't see Barkov ever leaving Florida, and he's certainly not in imminent retirement talks yet. But, this is the core as I see it if Barkov ever retired early. Ekblad is a career Panther, and has been a lettered player ever since. So, the team would be in good hands with him at the helm. Matty retains his A, I think being an Alt suits him better than being a captain. Verhaege and Bennett would round out the new leadership core nicely. I think this core would also be so much fun.

Los Angeles Kings - C: Adrian Kempe. A: Phillip Danault and Kevin Fiala

Again, I can't see Kopitar and Doughty retiring any time soon, but they definitely will retire together. So, LA would be in need of a totally fresh core for their imminent rebuild without them. Adrian Kempe would be a great captain for that era, he's in the prime of his career, he's not in immediate danger of retiring yet himself at 27. Danault is already in Alt, so he keeps his letter. And, to add more veteran presence, Kevin Fiala is added to the leadership core. A diverse core, and I think it'd work nicely.

Minnesota Wild - C: Joel Eriksson-Ek. A: Kirill Kaprizov, Brock Faber, and Ryan Hartman.

Jared Spurgeon has been an impeccable captain for the Wild. But, in the event of him leaving or retiring, I'd see it going to Eriksson-Ek in a heartbeat. A career Wild player, well respected, and a face of the team for ages. I'd assume he's even a captain-elect type player, in the conversation for if Spurgeon left. Kaprizov and Hartman should probably have letters anyway, so I give them their Alts, and Faber gets one just as Bedard does.

Montreal Canadiens - C: Jake Evans. A: Cole Caulfield, Alex Newhook, and Joel Armia.

This one was hardest, Nick Suzuki is the perfect rebuild era captain for a team. Young enough to stick around, not so young as to be easily disrespected. But, if Suzuki was injured for a prolonged period of time, this is the interim leadership core I could see taking over. Gallagher is the eldest, so I'm assuming he's retired. And, Matheson is in the same boat. So, Caulfield, Newhook, and Armia step up here.

Nashville Predators - C: Luke Schenn. A: Filip Forsberg, Cody Glass, and Juuse Saros (unofficially).

Roman Josi will in all likelihood retire as a Predator, and will likely be the greatest player they've ever had. But, in the highly unlikely event of this not happening, I'd love to see the captaincy go to Luke Schenn. He was such a great leader in the Canucks team when he was in Vancouver, even better than the actual leadership in many ways. Forsberg gains his much-deserved A, as does Cody Glass. And, while goalies can't wear letters, Saros would absolutely be part of that new core.

New Jersey Devils - C: Jack Hughes. A: Jesper Bratt, Nathan Bastian, Timo Meier, and Luke Hughes.

Again, Hischier is not going anywhere just yet, and has been an excellent leader or the Devils. But, there's only really one person the captaincy would go to if he did have to leave or retire early. Jack Hughes is really the next in line behind Hischier in a lot of ways, he's already easily the face of the team. As for Alts, Bratt and Bastian are definitely getting letters at some point. Meier was part of the Sharks leadership core for a long time, and Luke has handled his rookie season like a sage, so he gets an A as well.

New York Islanders - C: Mat Barzal. A: Brock Nelson and Bo Horvat.

Anders Lee has been captain on the island for a long time now, but at 34 he's likely reaching the final few years of his career already. So, Mat Barzal - already the face of the team, and it's most iconic player - would be the most logical option to succeed him in case he leaves or retires. I'd imagine Barzal to be a more fun and outgoing captain to contrast the more background captain Lee seems to be. Nelson retains his A, because of course he would. And, former Canucks captain, Bo Horvat, is made the final Alt. A smaller core, but a balanced one.

New York Rangers - C: Chris Kreider. A: Mika Zibanejad, Artemi Panarin, and Adam Fox

AKA: The captain the Rangers should have chosen, I still don't entirely know why Trouba got it over Kreider. But, all I know is he didn't deserve it. So, in the event of captain elbows leaving, Kreider gets the captaincy he should have had all along, the career Ranger, class personified. Zibanejad, Panarin, and Fox all round out the newer and more refined core by keeping their much-deserved letters as Kreider's Alts.

Ottawa Senators - C: Thomas Chabot. A: Josh Norris, Drake Batherson, and Michael Amadio.

Okay, I'm just gonna say the thing, because it has to be said. Brady Tkachuk is not an adequate successor for Erik Karlsson. There, I said it, cancel me if you want, but we all know it's true. Chabot deserved it so much more, and was robbed blind of it, and we all know it deep down. A captain should not spend most of a game in the penalty box. So, if Brady leaves, Chabot gets his C. Norris, Batherson, and Amadio round out the core by getting letters of their own. I'd imagine Giroux has already long retired or returned to Philly by this point.

Philadelphia Flyers - C: Erik Johnson. A: Travis Konecny, Garnet Hathaway, and Owen Tippet

Again, Couturier is a great captain for the Flyers, and is not leaving any time soon. But, I'd see EJ getting the C if he does. He's won a cup, lead the Avalanche for over a decade, and is a strong veteran presence on the ice. He's a great guy, a lights out player, and loyal to his team. Erik is also one of the best players to never be a captain, so this just feels right to me. TK keeps his A, no reason for him not to, but he's not captain material to me. Hathaway and Tippet round out the pest core. Not quite Legion of Doom, but close enough.

Pittsburgh Penguins - C: Kris Letang. A: Erik Karlsson, Bryan Rust, and Lars Eller.

As with Dallas, Edmonton, and LA, I just can't see Sid and Geno retiring apart. They will absolutely retire together, you just don't split the Two Headed Monster up. So, without them, Kris would absolutely step up into being the captain. A champion, Masterton winner, the conscience of the team who leads in the room and on ice with his ice time. Kris would make for a wonderful captain, and would lead with passion. Karlsson would be his second-in-command. Rust gets a letter, carrying Sid's duties on the top line, and Eller also gets an A.

San Jose Sharks - C: Mario Ferraro. A: Justin Bailey, Fabian Zetterlund, and William Eklund.

Logan Couture has been a good captain for the Sharks, and seems to have the respect of the boys. But, he's 35, so it's likely he's in the final few seasons of his career. So, the only real logical replacement for him I can see from their roster is Mario Ferraro, who has been with the team since 2017, and is their only other lettered player right now. I could also see Bailey, Zetterlund, and Eklund being given As as his Alts. A larger core, but teams are trending that way lately.

Seattle Kraken - C: Jordan Eberle. A: Jamie Oleksiak, Adam Larsson, and Andre Burakovsky.

Honestly, this core is so obvious I'm kinda annoyed it's not the core already. Eberle has previously been a fundamental part of the leadership cores in New York and Edmonton. He's one of the most successful players in the league right now, and is an impeccable leader. So, why are the Kraken waiting so long? Give him the C already! Oleksiak and Larsson are also good shouts for being Alts. As is cup champion twice over, Andre Burakovsky.

St Louis Blues - C: Jordan Kyrou. A: Colton Parayko, Torey Krug, and Pierre-Olivier Joseph.

Again, Brayden Schenn is certainly no hurry to retire or leave the team. So, this is a far off thing, God knows the Blues don't need another captaincy change! But, Kyrou is most likely to inherit the C in the unlikely event of Schenn stepping down or retiring. Parayko is already an Alt, so he continues in that role. With Krug stepping up to the plate, and PO Joseph taking a leaf from Letang's book.

Tampa Bay Lightning - C: Victor Hedman. A: Brayden Point, Nikita Kucherov, and Ryan McDonagh.

This one is also really obvious to me. Hedman is Stamkos' second-in-command already, so giving him the captaincy seems almost a done deal. He's been with them longest, played a vital role in leading them to the back to back cups they've won, and has been nothing but classy in the process. So, Victor gets the C. Point, Kucherov, and McDonagh round out the core as his Alts.

Toronto Maple Leafs - C: Morgan Reilly. A: William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews.

Some may say Mitch or Auston deserve it more, but there's no one that plays more for the team than Morgan. He and Tavares seem to click as a duo and there's no doubt in my mind that he is captain-elect in case John Tavares ever retired. He's mature, calm, and collected under pressure. Willy, Mitch, and Auston would be fine staying as Alts for him.

Utah Coyotes - C: Clayton Keller. A: Lawson Crouse and Nick Schmaltz.

Again, this is the obvious choice for me. Keller is the team's best player, the franchise all star, and the ace of the team in the media. He's also on the younger side, but not too young, so he's perfect to succeed Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Honestly, I'm surprised the team haven't had a captain since OEL left. But, Keller is too perfect. Crouse and Schmaltz would round out the small first ever Utah leadership core.

Vancouver Canucks - C: JT Miller. A: Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and Thatcher Demko (unofficially).

We all know how much I love Quinn Hughes, so this was hard. But, in the highly unlikely event of Quinn being out injured for a long time, retiring early, or leaving in free agency to New Jersey, we'd need a new captain. I think JT Miller slightly edges out Elias Pettersson to this if only because Miller is more media trained and has the years on his side. Pettersson does, however, retain his A, and Boeser is made an Alt as well. As with Saros, Demko can't wear a letter, but would absolutely be an Alt-by-proxy.

Vegas Golden Knights - C: Zach Whitecloud. A: William Karlsson, Noah Hanifin, and Jack Eichel.

Vegas have no shortage of leadership options, but I wanted to trend younger here, so Pietrangelo was out instantly as an option. If Petro and Stone retire in the same season, then I'd say one of the original Knights draftees, Zach Whitecloud, should be given the captaincy. He's a classy and clean player who seems to be a good guy, and regularly performs for his team. Karlsson, Hanifin, and Eichel would be his Alts.

Washington Capitals - C: Trevor Van Riemsdyk. A: Dylan Strome and Nic Dowd

I'm assuming all of the current Caps Core retire together here. So, Ovechkin, Backstrom, Carlson, Oshie, and Wilson are all out of the running here. So, Trevor Van Riemsdyk would be the next-in-line for the captaincy as far as I'm concerned. I think the Caps would be looking to rebuild after all five of the core retire, so Strome and Dowd are TVR's young Alts, with Strome the likely next-in-line.

Winnipeg Jets - C: Josh Morrissey. A: Mason Appleton, Gabriel Vilardi, and Nikolaj Ehlers.

Adam Lowry has just stepped into his captaincy, I know. And, he's doing a much better job at it than Wheeler was, and he's not Scheifele who bullied Laine to Columbus. So, he's already off to a good start. But, I'd say Morissey is definitely the next-in-line for the top job should Lowry leave or retire, especially as a career Jet for eleven years. Appleton, Vilardi, and Ehlers would round out the core for me as Alts, again, with Appleton as the next-in-line here.

So, yeah! this was fun to ponder. Of course, this is just a thought exercise for fun during the offseason, which has felt longer than normal for some reason. I do think some above players are due letters of some sort, though. Especially Hedman, Tuch, and Eberle.
