prompt: rara finding out she preggo >>
@accordingtokris
If there was one thing that Rara knew, it was that she didn’t usually get sick. She could count the number of times that she had been sick on one hand, and most of those times had technically been her faking out so that she didn’t have to do something stupid at school. So, really, she had been sick very few times, and never like this.
After a couple of days of feeling like absolute garbage and just laying around her apartment, her mother’s mothering senses apparently alerted her to the fact that her child was feeling ill. So, she let herself in with a key that Rara had no idea how she had gotten, though she was willing to bet that Khaled had something to do with this. She would skin him later, once she stopped wanting to puke her guts out every twenty minutes. “I’m fine, Mom,” Rara assured her mother, though the woman clearly did not believe her, giving her daughter an appraising look. “I swear, I am fine. It’s probably some twenty-four-hour bug or something.”
“Mmmmhmmm,” her mother said, clearly buying it. Rara hated to admit it, but her stubbornness did have to come from somewhere. And while her mother tended to be stubborn about different things than Rara, it was clear which parent she had inherited that particular trait from. That, and the fact that her father, bless his soul, was an absolute doormat.
Rara shot her mother a withering look. “What are you mmmhmmming me for? A bug is a bug. Nothing to get all worked up over.”
At that point, her mother pointedly reached into her purse and pulled out a pregnancy test kit.
Oh, fuck no.
“No, no, no. No way in Hell. I am not pregnant. I know you want grandbabies really bad but just wait for Rosh-”
“Have you ever been pregnant?” Her mother asked, cutting her off abruptly, then gestured towards Rara’s stomach. “Present time excluded, no. You have not. Trust me; a mother knows these things.” She pressed the kit into Rara’s hands. “Try me.”
Rara glared into her mother’s eyes.
Her mother smiled back.
Rara snatched the kit out of her hands and stalked off to the bathroom yelling, “I AM NOT PREGNANT!”
As it turned out, she was, in fact, very pregnant. Pregnant enough that Rara wasn’t entirely sure how she hadn’t noticed, though now that she thought about it her pants were feeling a little snugger as of late. “I am going to murder him.” Rara hissed as she stalked towards the door, jamming her feet into her comfiest shoes and grabbing her jacket off of the hook with more force than was really necessary. “I am going to fucking kill him.”
Her mother, of course, was watching this rampage unfold while calmly sipping her tea. “Tell Vic I said hi. You know, before you kill him.”
Finding Vic, as it turned out, was never really that hard. She was sure that he was having a perfectly good way until she walked up to him, smiled, and said “Congratulations, we’re pregnant,” before kicking Vic solidly in the nuts. “This will never happen again. Ever.”
