"Jade! Welcome!" Eden crossed the threshold of her home-slash-shop to greet the dark-haired woman, wrapping her in a brief hug before separating, "Don't mind the mess - I'm this close to finishing organizing." She pinched her fingers together, walking away from Jade and towards some shelves. "So, I know you're a horror novelist - and while I don't know too much about Nightrest's legends, my grandmother was a majorly superstitious person. And she -" Eden pulled a thick, unmarked book out from the very end of the shelf, "- liked to keep a diary of all her unexplained interactions. I thought you'd enjoy flipping through it, so - here."

"Yeah?" Viktor couldn't help but smirk at the newcomer, the way she giggled easily at their words - her eyes holding an interest that only encouraged them. "What are you? A fucking - journalist? No - you're too easygoing. They're always rigid - on fucking, high alert, all the time. You a podcaster? You've got the voice." They leaned closer - more than they had to, just to frazzle her - and took a sip of the drink, before stabbing at one of the floating Swedish fish towards the bottom of the bowl with their straw. "These are the best part - here, have it."

A warm buzz had taken over their body - not their usual preference, not one for a depressant over a stimulant - but it’d been nice in the moment, eyes flickering over towards the stranger next to them. “Aw shucks - you’re offering me a free drink? I’m fucking - honored, right now. Feel like lucky caller one hundred - can we do dual straws? Wanna feel like one of those fucking - high school sweethearts sharing a milkshake in the movies.” Viktor pulled his seat closer to her - hand reaching for the drink, “You’re a new face. Allured by all the fucking, gloom and doom up here?”

Jade didn’t really know what to expect from the guy next to her, but It wasn’t this. She hung onto every single word, though. “We absolutely can,” she giggled, before pulling a straw out from over the bar and adding it to the drink. Her eyes shifted over him as he scooted closer to her. She was thinking about the fact that her mouth was suddenly very dry, when he spoke again. “Oh yeah, I just moved here last week. It might sound bad, but you’re kind of right. I specifically moved here because of the murders,” she said, before taking a sip of the drink.

Her eyes only widened, "Oh my god - you can write without even looking down? That's like - super impressive. I think that's actually like - one of those common superpowers that everyone has, except like - not yours, exactly. But like - you know what I mean? Like, some people can always tell which direction they're going in, or like - which bag of grapes is going to be the sweetest." She took a sip of her drink, and said jokingly, "If I didn't know any better - I'd think you were writing about me!" The coffee almost dribbled out of her mouth as she gaped at Jade, "A writer? Oh my god, that's so cool. I wish I like - had that prowess. I honestly can barely even like, sit still for longer than a few moments." Her handshake was firm - because the one thing instilled in Myria was that a handshake made an impression. "Jade? That's like - a super pretty name, I love it. It's like, the ore and the plant."

“It’s okay! We can share spaces!” Myria plopped down in the seat across from Jade, sipping her coffee in the largest size the Daily Dose offered. “I just like - saw you over here, scribbling and everything - and I thought - wow!” She splayed her fingers mid-air, nearly dropping her drink in the process, “You’re writing with like, a fervor, y'know? Like you’re channeling something deep, like - either your diary or some like, truly fucked shit - which is like, totally fine! I support creativity! I guess I just got curious? You look kinda mysterious.” A deep breath, then they extended their hand, “Oh - stranger danger, I’m Myria, by the way.”

Jade didn’t respond right away, just listening and watching the woman as she spoke. She jotted down a few notes, without breaking eye contact. *Myria - Bubbles, Sparkles, Talkative, Hiding something? Talking to cover what isnt said? pretty like a flower. coffee addict #same, says fucked like a compliment, google fervor* She closed her book quickly after before taking a sip of her coffee. “I’m a writer so I guess I kind of write everything intensely,” she said, before taking her hand. “Nice to meet you, Myria, I’m Jade.”

"Oh - shit, that sounds good." She breathed - eyes widening; usually she stuck by the usual cocktails, sometimes switching it up depending on whichever country she'd be in at the time. "Cheers," Eden repeated, laughing again before clinking their glasses and shooting down the first shot - picking up the second one next.

“Glad I’m not the only one here with weak lungs,” Eden laughed, tucking away her inhaler before turning her full attention towards the other woman. “What are strawberry starburst shots?” She raised an eyebrow, curiously - smile widening. “Sounds like a good plan.”

“They taste like the pink starburst. It’s Vanilla Vodka, Watermelon pucker and sweet and sour mix,” Jade said, before the shots arrived. “Cheers,” she said, after sliding the shots over to her new friend. Lifting up the straight shot first, she clicked their glasses so that she could down it.

"Tell me about them," They were mostly curious, but a little bored all the same; everything bored them these days - but Jade's reactions gave them a sick little thrill, kept them eager. "Are you basing it - off of people in town? Kinda fucked. I'm into it - which one's your favorite?" If Viktor's instincts told them anything - the way Jade looked at him gave him enough reason to suspect they'd make a feature; which only excited them more.

Viktor paused before easing back into their seat with an amused smirk. “Alright then.” They got comfortable - a leg thrown over the other, ankle balanced atop their knee, the back of their chair wedged between body and arm. “Any fucking - progress on your novel, yet? Or has our little murder town left you uninspired?”

Jade watched the way he sat, making a mental note to write down later. “I’m plenty inspired, but I’m mostly working on settings and characters right now. I feel like I’ve gotten a good idea of the area, I’m just creating my small town characters. Seeing who’s going to be important and who’s not exactly going to have much page time,” she explained, before taking another sip. She wasn’t sure how much into the book she should really say, considering there was one character that he was bound to recognize.

"Oh - I dunno, I've been to Apple once and just like - unloaded at her. She's a super good listener." Gabe didn't mention what for - Azra's threats coming to their mind; they didn't want to cross her, didn't want to rehash the trauma she'd gone through - it wasn't his business to share. "Ummm -" They scrunched their nose as they thought, eyes scanning the room, "- Oh, there's Elijah Hale. He's our weatherman - don't tell anybody, but I have a picture of him on my wall - he's not my type but he's also just like, dreamy - I've made exceptions, okay? Umm - Christ, okay - so there's the Oh's - Charlotte's the serious looking one, Sarah's the one who is like so impossibly sweet, love her - you might've heard about their brother on the news. It's like - this whole clusterfuck. I wouldn't bring it up to them. There's Vera Calma - she's my bartender bestie, we work at Deadlights together and I love her - and then her like, I don't know what he is to her? But Kyle Yang is like - usually around her, and he's like, objectively hot, he owns the gym. Kinda serious guy - they're both kinda serious until you get to know them, I think. Well - mostly Vera, I think. Kyle kind of always has a sad look in his eyes - like he's going through it, y'know?"

“I love you too, stranger!” Gabe said, all too happily, before going into his next spiel. “So then there’s Azra Nadir, who as far as I know has been attached to the hip with Feyza since like, ever - and her hot ass brother, Aslan. He is - he’s so pretty it’s kind of scary. I don’t think he’s real - I think they brought a Hollister mannequin to life. Uuuh - Aslan’s a DJ, and so is Fey’s boyfriend, Greyson. I don’t know what kind of music - it’s all kind of Skrillex in my head. Let me think… oh! There’s our local therapist, Apple Kiraz. She’s beautiful and I love her - and then there’s my brother, Jaziel. He’s okay.”

Jade continued to take little notes, especially on who’s attached to who. She was not here to step on any toes so she wanted to avoid certain types of energy. “Apple is so pretty, I haven’t talked to her yet but If I want her to like me I probably shouldn’t book a therapy session,” she said, with a small laugh. “Okay, who else?”

Jade hadn't been in town for long, so she didn't know many people yet. She normally spent all of her time with her nose in her book or her laptop and she thought it was time for her to be a little more social. So she headed over to the bar or club or whatever she saw in town. "A fish bowl!" she said, when she saw the adorable drink name on the chalkboard. Little did she know it was huge, so she turned to the person next to her. "I messed up, please help me drink this."

"Really? That's so funny, because like - I've been told that I'll lose my voice if I keep using it! Actually - I did, once, like - last winter. It was really awkward trying to like, wish condolences and explain funeral proceedings when I sounded like a mouse with like, a pea stuck in its throat." One of her goals in life was to befriend everyone she came across; it was a silly goal, one that she'd started as a child - when she was alone, and wishing that someone, anyone would've spoken to her. Myria didn't want anyone to feel alone, ever; her hope still childlike. "I love jade green! I don't think it's like, my favorite - I really like a like, lavender or a sage green - or like, a chartreuse! Vermillion. I try to wear like, every color all at once all the time, so that none of them feel left out."

Myria seemed like someone she would be friends with, mostly because she would talk enough for the both of them. She gave off this energy like the quirky best friend that died half way through the book to break your heart. Maybe this time she will make it to the end, right when you think she’s safe... “I can sit without talking for a very long period of time, I’ve been told before that I’ll loose my voice if I don’t use it,” she said, before taking another sip of her drink. “Thank you, Jade green happens to be my favorite color so I think it’s fitting.”

Feeling a little too breathless after spending time out on the dancefloor - Eden retreated to the bar, inhaler in hand as she leaned her back against the counter. “Sure!” She said between inhales, casting a sideways smile towards the other woman. “Let me just - catch my breath. You can order whatever you like - I’m easygoing.”

“Asthma squad, if you run out of puffs I also have albuterol so I got you boo,” Jade said, before speaking to the bartender. “Can I have two Tequila shots and two strawberry starburst shots?” she asked, before turning back to the woman. “Straight shots for effect and then we chace with the yummy one so we are left with a good after taste.”

Jade was already feeling pretty buzzed coming from the house party, but she was still trying to focus on her goal of getting more people to spill any details about the murders that were left out of the news. "Do you want to take shots," she asked the person who made it to the bar at the same time as her. She was down before she even turned to see who it was.

Jade found herself the morning after the party in her favorite spot in town. She needed her coffee for a few reasons, but the main one was the crushing hangover pounding through her head. She had to write down everything useful she learned at the party and any feelings she could manage to put into words before they weren't as fresh. "Sorry, let me move my notebooks," she said, realizing someone was looking for an open seat.

"Sure!" Eden blinked - but smiled, nonetheless; it was quick for someone to already regard her with the warmth of sisterhood, but wasn't unwelcomed. If anything - she treasured the relationships she fostered with other women. "We can do all of that - I mean, if it's in all those family movies then it holds some realism, right? I actually live upstairs, if you wanted to do it tonight - you can borrow pajamas, whatever you need." She kept an arsenal of surprise guest items at her disposal - because Eden was a planner, almost to an excess.

“Well, we can just be sisters now,” Jade said, with a small giggle. She really did always want a sister and with all of the people she met over the past month she really felt like Eden was the closest to what she imagined having a sister was like. “We should celebrate by doing something sisters do, movie night... painting each other’s nails, unless that’s just in movies.”

Jade was really jealous of families like that. Ones that were big and connected and had stories to pass down. She always felt like she really missed out on all of that. She never really felt like she was a part of something bigger than herself. “Sometimes I like it, I guess I got my parents undivided attention, but it would have been nice to have someone to face the world with, you know? Sometimes I feel like I’m watching the world instead of being a part of it.”

"Oh - my entire family's like this," She gestured towards the quilts she had moved out of the way, "Those are all quilts my grandmother made for her kids - couldn't bring herself to throw them away and neither can I." All natural, no chemicals - a pair of rabbits.” The thought made her scrunch her nose - waving a hand as if it’d clear the thoughts away. “They about an hour north - in a commune, which is a lot less culty than it sounds.”

“That’s really sweet, I don’t think anyone in my family is really that sentimental,” Jade said, considering the fact that she hardly saw her grandparents growing up. She couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of hippies for parents, it sounded like a lot more fun than what she had. “My parents are pretty traditional, I’m an only child but that’s because my mom had a complicated child birth. She said it was like I was stabbing her from the inside,” she laughed, with a roll of her eyes.

It also helped that Eden listened far more than spoke - let others do the crying. “Yeah - just don’t use flash, I think those pages are on the verge of crumbling.” She reached over to turn on an old lamp - illuminating the room in a soft glow. “I mean, honestly - as long as you return it in one piece, I wouldn’t mind loaning it to you. I have more of her diaries - and some of them are really… spicy. It’s done actual damage to my eyes.”

Jade had a whole set up back in her place that would be a million times better for taking these photos and she would love to actually sit down and read it thoroughly while feeling the fragile pages between her fingers. “I would love to borrow it, I promise to take really good care of it,” she said, unable to contain her excitement. “I like to pretend like my grandma never had sex, despite the fact that she had eight kids,” she said, with a laugh and a small cringe.

Jade returned the hug and rolled her eyes at the apology. “My apartment is very organized if you dont mine notes and books and papers all over the place,” she said, with a small giggle. She didn’t plan on inviting anyone from town back to her place, mostly because she had character profiles of everyone all over the place, she didn’t need to have anyone seeing them. She could feel her jaw drop when she saw the book. She instantly started to flip through, completely obsessed. “I have never felt so understood... in my life,” Jade said, trailing her fingers down the pages. “Would you mind if I took some photos of this?”
