˙ ˖ ✶ Layla
June found it slightly hilarious how the only one feeling awkward in this situation was Layla. They'd hooked up and June might've caught some small feelings, but there was no ill will there. June could simply move on as she had taught herself many times growing up in LA. "You know it's okay between us right? It doesn't have to be awkward and you really don't need to be making small talk about squirrels." June said with a laugh playfully rolling her eyes. "Besides, this doesn't have to be a thing we can just chill."
continued from here.
Layla's stomach did a little flip as June got closer, where she fidgeted with her camera. God, could things be more awkward? Plastering on a smile, she managed to get out, "Yeah, it's been pretty hectic lately. Photography helps me unwind. Keeps my mind off things…" She stood there, unsure whether to join June on the bench. In the end, she decided to sit down. "Paris sounds nice. But yeah, jet lag can be a real pain. Lincoln Park is a good alternative, I guess. Plenty of… squirrels to keep things interesting." A nervous laugh escaped her lips, and she mentally kicked herself for that lame attempt at humor. The whole situation was about as comfortable as a bed of nails, and she was itching to bolt. But her politeness kept her glued to the spot, trying to figure out how to deal with this awkward run-in.

Your pumpkin pie looked very nice for a first attempt, Sir!
Thank you, ma cher. It doesn’t hold a candle next to your works of art in the kitchen. But at least I can say I tried.

Brought to Kurt's room

Oh my gosh... I died and went to Heaven, and I don’t even believe in it.
That looks sinful, but most importantly delicious. Thank you so much, Layla. You’re such a dear.

Another blush had kissed her cheeks when he kissed her hand, nodding as she took his arm and walked with him along the street. He was definitely taller than her short 5'3, and she had wondered briefly how such drastic height differences would appear to anyone walking by them.
"Thank you --" When he asked her about the creatures in her realm she had wondered just how much she should divulge, it would seem at the very least he knew a little about Wonderland already.
"Well, not everything you read in the children's book or watch in a movie is true but... we have bread-nbutterflies, singing flowers, very mean Bandersnatches - especially the ones hand raised by the Queen of Diamonds, and a Jabberwocky."
She had paused for a moment then, glancing up at him as they continued to walk. "But most of us... creatures... have our human forms. Myself, as you know, I'm a Dormouse. My friend Shay is one of two March Hares and she is the Queen of Hearts, she is a powerful warrior that defends her Queendom more than her actual guards do, her half brother Sean is another March Hare, there is a Cheshire Cat named BB and she may still be dating a witch from your realm actually. There is Darla and Darius, but they are just magical humans, just like Pesha the Queen of Diamonds and Kendra the Queen of Clubs. There is also Alexander who is a magical human and Shay's Uncle and Elliot, the Mock Turtle."
Curiously, Layla had tilted her head. "Was there anyone in particular you would like to know more about?"
Michael smiled at the Dormouse and leaned over to kiss her hand. "As you wish, my lady." Three hundred years of living hadn't dampened his gentlemanly personality. He linked arms with her again, and they walked out into the night.
"You are so polite, Layla," he said as they walked along the street, "I would like to hear about the creatures you have in your realm." He hadn't been to other realms, he had just left the old world and into the new one.

@laylashrugged said: send ‘Mmph!’ for my muse to pull yours in for a kiss as a ploy
Lorna was doing her best to lay low. Everything felt like it was falling to pieces around her, and she wasn’t able to move fast enough to keep it together. The smartest thing for her to do would to be to not go outside right now. At least, not during the day when she could be more easily caught by Enforcers. But she couldn’t stay cooped up inside either. Unable to sleep, feeling like she was about to explode, Lorna had been prepared to climb out a window if she had to just to get outside.
Of course, nothing could go right for too long, could it? And she was pretty sure that the person looking a little too intently at her was an Enforcer. Thankfully, just then she spotted Layla. “Hey!” she called out, walking over to her. “Just go with it,” she whispered as she pulled Layla close, then kissed her. Hopefully that would make the Enforcer not want to look too close.

Desmond hadn’t planned on asking questions about the explosion at Hazel’s daycare, but when he’d gone to pick her up at the end of the day— he couldn’t help but notice one Layla Thane also retrieving her child. So he took this opportunity to head on over to the other woman with a smile on his face, and Hazel tucked against him. “You’re Layla, right?” he asked innocently. “And this is Norah?” He gave a small wave to the little girl in question before looking back at her mother. “I’ve seen her mentioned on Hazel’s reports of people she played with and stuff,” he explained, not wanting to seem creepy or something equally bad.

"He's a boyfriend stealer, of the worst kind." She had realized, quite quickly, how it sounded. Frantically, Layla had shaken her head as if to try and shake away the words she had just let slip out. "I'm not saying I am interested in you that way, or that I'm calling you a boyfriend or that I have any intentions of a romance with you, what I mean is --" She had stopped abruptly. Did she really want to tell him? Open herself up like that, so early into their friendship?
Wasn't it already too late to take back her words?
"I have friends. More friends than enemies, no doubt. But I'm not anybody that anybody sees as more than a friend, as a little sister. While everyone I know has romances come and go, like Shay, or Sean, or my twin sister who has been married for a couple years now and doesn't even live in Wonderland anymore, I am just... the helpful little mouse who is only called upon when needed for something. An afterthought as it were, and when I told Shay about you, and told her I was interested in seeing you again because I, I don't know, I can't explain it, she told me that if I wanted to genuinely get to know you, if I had any interest in you at all, that I had to keep you from meeting Sean."
There it was, the confession. A little early, and something she didn't want to admit, but the Cheshire cat was out of the bag now.
"It is not that I think little of you, Ki, it is more that I think little of myself. I know it is wrong of me, but I just, I just want someone in my life just for me. You have my interest, my curiosity as it were, and as selfish as it may sound, I don't want to share. Sean isn't a bad person, he is one of my dearest friends and he would come to my aid in a heartbeat, but he is also someone who draws the attention of anyone and everyone. He is someone who outshines even the brightest of lights just by being the room."
She had wondered, briefly, how much time was left with Kimo and she could only hope that he finally understood why she had been so hesitant. She knew it wasn't Sean's fault, she knew it was something she had to come to terms with on her own, but it didn't make things any easier for her.
When he told that she was stuck with him, she couldn't hide her soft smile and hearing about him and his story only made her want to be around him even more. The soft smile remained as he turned her question back to her ---
"I just want someone, someday, I can call my own."
Her answer was simple, but complex in so many ways and as if Sean had somehow heard her last words, there had been a knock on the door.
"Layla, Layla, Layla, little Mouse in the strangers house, are you ready to go?"
// He is definitely intrigued by her, that's for sure. And lol, oh Sean I adore you but whenever you are allowed to :P Ah, yes but I don't mind the length cause I get it, when the inspo hits, it's just like let's run with it lol.
A soft look of fondness flickered across his features, head tilting slightly. ❝Oh mousey, I'm flattered that you still have it. But luckily for you, you don't have to use it yet. Well unless you want to.❞ But the elf didn't want her to go just yet, not when he was promised longer. Yet he wouldn't ask her to stay, didn't have that right. But at least he had this time with her, an half an hour to get to know her better.
But then the female's action had his mind wandering again, now was pretty certain that Layla would prefer it if he didn't meet Sean. But why? He didn't understand but the fact that she didn't seem to want him to, only made him want to meet him that much more. Blame it on being drawn to the forbidden, yet his eyebrows furrowed in response to her words. Tongue clicking off the roof of his mouth in disappointment, now who said he was so easy to charm? ❝He's a charmer huh? Fascinating but they can be trouble. Hm, I think I'll be the judge of that mousey but I am definitely intrigued so guess we'll see what happens.❞
Eyes widening at the realization that she did catch sight of his fangs, despite how fast his movement was to cover his mouth. And she seemed kinda enthused about it, which was amusing. Hand moving away from his mouth, the corner of his lips tugging upwards in amusement. ❝I do, four on top and four on the bottom that are almost vampire like.❞ The elf admitted before chuckling, oh if she only knew what he was truly hiding from her. ❝Ah, ah, ah.. So you are saying all my secrets would be safe with you?❞ He questioned with a slight raise of his eyebrows before shaking his head.
It was actually amusing how quick the conversation could change, one minute they were talking about knights then the next about his fangs and now they were onto another topic. Colorful hues roaming over the female's facial features, lips parting slightly as he listened to her. Then his lips curved downwards, she had enemies? Oh no, no, no. That was just awful but he supposed that came with the territory of being close to royalty and what she does for one of them. And that almost made him question the possibility of that happening if they got close, if he trusted her enough to let her in to know everything about him. But he quickly snapped himself out of going down that rabbit hole because nope, absolutely not. ❝Hm, I am almost surprised someone as sweet as you has enemies. But then hearing you are friends with royalty and even spy for one of them, well that would certainly make some enemies. Sean has a sister, huh? Well aint that interesting.❞ Well would you look at that, just what else would he learn tonight? ❝So you have some tricks up your sleeve to get out of trouble, that's good.❞ Would have had to if she's gotten caught before, plus she did kinda demonstrate one way she got out of trouble when they met.
Of course it didn't take Kimo long to notice how Layla's stutter had disappeared, how she seemed less nervous in his presence. And that had only made him smile but then he heard her comment, which caused him to chuckle. ❝Definitely not a vampire, just an elf. But I get why you'd confuse me with one, it's the fangs, right?❞ She didn't even have to answer that, he had a pretty good idea that it was. But at least she knew the truth, could see the truth since he had dropped the glamor. Not that he looked much different, though that might be his supernatural beauty working in his favor. And yet, what was beautiful was the fact there was a faint blush upon the other's cheeks. Even as she began to apologize again, which caused his eyebrows to raise as he shook his head slightly. ❝Hm, well I sincerely appreciate that so thank you, wouldn't want to accidentally do something that I'd regret because I was startled.❞
A frown tugging at the corners of his lips, eyebrows furrowing at her when he received his answer. Leaning against the counter, fingers running through his hair before running over his face. ❝Do you think so little of me that you think I'd never want to see you again, just cause I met Sean? Oh, you think he can charm me. Is that why or is there something that I'm missing about your little friend?❞ Because clearly there was something she wasn't telling him and now he definitely wanted to know what that was. ❝Listen Mousey, we're now friends and that means you are stuck with me no matter what. And besides I don't typically expose my true identity to anyone that wasn't going to be in my life for the long run. So no matter what happens, it's going to be okay. Unless you want to leave me.❞
But that would suck, especially after he let her in. After he told her more about him, stuff he swore he wasn't going to but found himself doing anyways. Then she was telling him that his life was more exciting that hers and he couldn't help but to snicker softly, was his life exciting? Yes, in some ways. In other ways, no. So really it kinda depended on the day. ❝It depends on the day but I'm sure your life is exciting, just not in the same way as mine. Oh so you can sing but there's a bit of an attachment to it, fascinating. I wouldn't know what I'd do if I had that power, probably best that I don't cause it could be quite dangerous if I did. OH! You used it to escape, that's actually smart.❞
And then came the rest which caused him to shrug, though Kimo definitely didn't miss how Layla looked around at the mention of his bodyguard. Which he could reassure her that he wasn't here, if she was to run into him then it would have been while she was outside his place. Although he could almost guarantee that his pretend father had clocked her, had been watching her from a far til she was let in. But he wouldn't tell her that, didn't need her to worry. ❝It certainly seems that way, doesn't it?❞ Ki asked with a chuckle before shaking his head before shrugging once more. ❝But I don't know, I'd like to think they wouldn't care.❞ They probably wouldn't as long as she was no harm to him, his father on the other hand would. But that might be wishful thinking, after all most of his species think they are better than mortals and other races. Cocky little shits as one of the princes of Asgard had once said, which they weren't wrong but still there were those rare moments when one would stumble upon an humble elf and he'd like to think his mother was humble because he was.
The question had taken him by surprise, mainly because that's the first time someone has asked him what he wanted. For so long it had been the matter of when he was going to take his place on the throne and which throne would he take, til then it was stay safe while doing certain things for the sake of people who needed favors done. Don't get him wrong, he didn't mind being a spy and an assassin because he was good at that. But he loved his music, loved entertaining. And yet he knew eventually he'd have to give it up, all because his mother would eventually deem it safe for him to return home. It was the one thing his heart was semi torn upon, following his heart or being the perfect son. ❝I'm pretty content with my life, after all it could be worse so complaining about the things I'm not thrilled with seems to be a bit pointless. But you know, I think you are the first one to ever ask me that. Which it's weird.. Anyways, what about you, what is it that you want?❞

"Complications? What kind of complications?" Her voice was soft, timid, but clearly there was a concerned undertone. She of course, had no experience with bitten werewolves and as she followed him she had known right away she was clearly out of her element.
Yet still, her dark eyes had watch him pace around the room. How would she know the symptoms? She only knew what she had read, but it didn't mean she wouldn't try to help appease the worried werewolf prince. "--I will do what I can, I just can't promise I can help him." She had followed Caspian to the infirmary where the man was being held, swallowing thickly as she looked from the man to the prince. Slowly she had walked closer to the man, taking a seat beside him as she cleared her throat and began to sing in a soft, melodic voice.
"Rest your eyes----, calm your breath ---, let your body calm ----, let your mind destress -----," Her voice was a spell of a persuasion, powerful magic that had seen the thrashing and rage-filled man quickly calm, the man closing his eyes as his breathing steadied and Layla had once again looked toward Caspian. "He has hurt himself, I will heal his wounds, but, I can't -- I just don't know, if I can heal his curse."
Layla had put one hand over his forehead and another hand over his chest, her hands soon glowing with a soft white light. It was clear the healing magic she was using was draining her significantly and although the man's body was visually healing, she didn't know if her magic would be a cure After a few moments, Layla had withdrew her hands, her head sinking as she closed her eyes, trying not to fall into her own slumber.

Despite not being able to go to the lakehouse with the rest of the girls, Ramina was helping Layla pack herself and Norah up. Though the newest Old Lady was filled with some anxieties about being left in Olympus alone, she’d known better than to push when it came to the lakehouse. It was a special place, and Rhea would also be there. If she didn’t want the matriarch hating her for the rest of time, she figured it would be best to accept the post of staying here, even if it might give someone a free pass to come after her. At least she wouldn’t be alone. After all, she’d asked Damian if she could stay at his place, though she kept flip flopping on whether or not she should actually be there. If someone did decide to make some move on her, she didn’t want him in the crossfire.
Nevertheless, she was just finishing up with Norah’s bag when she looked over to check on Layla— who was holding up a shirt to herself in the mirror. Amusement colored Ramina’s voice as she asked, “You know you’re not going for vacation...right? There’s not going to be a runway there.” Of course...Ramina would probably be doing something very similar in Layla’s shoes. Still, it was fun to tease.

It was hard not to notice Finn's obvious facial expressions of disgust when she had given him two different beverages she wanted with her meal. Curiously, the dormouse had tilted her head, had he even tried them himself?
"You really don't like chocolate milk, or orange juice?" For a moment, she was grateful for the subject change, until Finn had seemed almost offended by her not expressing her internal thoughts out loud. Of course he didn't understand, why would he?
"I'm sorry, I just -- it is just hard for me to express what I really feel because generally, in my experience, people don't really care about about me.--" She had given a certain pause right then. "Well, I mean, besides you, you seem to care, I just --"
He had wanted more answers. Layla had supposed if he didn't want answers he wouldn't ask for more answers. Layla swallowed thickly, trying to bind as much time as possible, hoping that the subject could be changed but when she heard the tone of his voice, saw the expression on his face, how could she keep it to herself any longer?
"Finn, I'm going to be completely honest with you - and its really hard for me to do. Not the honest part, I mean just, telling you, flat out why I think it is a better idea I train on my own, rather than with you --"
Layla had two choices at this point. She could tell him the whole truth, or just part of it. "--I'm afraid of my own power, and I don't want to hurt you. I also don't want you worrying about me, if anything goes wrong, it would be my problem to deal with, not yours -- I just feel like, well, I have to hold back. Just a bit. I know you can handle it, you've proven it, but what if you can't? I would feel so my guilt for hurting my best friend."
---- she decided to keep part of the reason to herself. The last thing she had wanted was to ruin the friendship they both had because she had been foolish and crossed that we will only be friends line.
"Chocolate milk!?" Finnian curled his nose a bit, looking away, thinking about it "Okay?" He frowned for a moment. Finnian nodded "I do, I have some chocolate milk." Nervously he looked over toward the kitchen as he talked about it. Then cleared his throat, letting out a breath "Orange juice?! Whyyyy?!" Finnian nodded though "Right, yes. Or-ange- Jee-uuice."
He had to get away from there before he gagged in disgust. As Layal moved on he nodded "Oh. Well okay! I like figures of speech. Like, A donkey a day keeps the travelers away." Happily he nodded "Or was it tourists…I can never remember." He shrugged it off however and further listened to her talk "Well get out of it, because I can't get in your head either. I'm right here. Outside of your head. We are in the middle of a conversation and some lunch." Finnian explained, gesturing to the inside of the tea house "Not the inside of your head."
Into the kitchen Finnian started pulling out the ingredients and pan. Hearing Layla's thanks he lift his head up, spinning the pan in his hand before placing it down on the oven top "On your own? You don't want to practice with me anymore? Why?" Finnian asked as he buttered both sides of the thick bread, slapping it onto the pan before placing a couple of squares of cheese on it, then starting the fire, before slapping the other side of the bread onto the top "I can still help you." He said, not as a question.
