@bitmorerouge asked: [ subdue ] one muse places their hand on the other’s forearm to try and calm them so they don’t lash out at a third party. | Santiago and Nini
Santiago has never considered himself to be a particularly angry person. Passionate, yes, fiery perhaps. But he's always had a rather good handle on his temper in his opinion. There's something however about seeing how the Duke so brazenly lets his shoulder slam into Toulouse, how his friend openly stumbles and only just about manages to catch himself from falling over with an assist from Harold, that sparks his ire, has his jaw tightening and his feet shifting to step forward. It's only Nini's hand on his forearm that dampens that rage, has some of the tension leaking from his shoulders. The rest dissipates when Toulouse looks to him and shakes his head.
He doesn't like the Duke. While the man has been relatively courteous to him, he's gotten snippets of how he's spoken to Toulouse, to Zidler. This however is a new low, particularly when he knows so well how Toulouse is pained by his legs, how he masks that pain and dulls it with drink. His brave, brave friend.
Swallowing, Santiago turns himself into Nini, ducking his head so he can press his face into the crook of her neck, one arm resting lightly around her waist. His voice is low when he speaks, so that only she will hear. "I do not like him."

List of Latino actors in Star Trek
I'm assuming that this is asking for a list of Latino actors in Star Trek, and since we're nearing the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, I compiled an incomplete list of Hispanic and Latine Actors in Star Trek.
Firstly, there are various main cast members:

Noël Wells: Plays D'Vana Tendi in Lower Decks, part Mexican
Rylee Alazraqui: Plays Rok-Tahk in Prodigy, Argentinian-American

@bitmorerouge asked: a kiss to end sexual tension. | Santiago & Nini
He's been watching her all day.
Santiago knows that she's been watching him as well, has felt her eyes both burning holes in the back of his head, as well as staring right back at him, that familiar challenging look that makes his stomach twist and his blood hot. But the structure of the rehearsals has largely kept them apart, holding at least to some sort of professional standards while around the others. It's difficult, but it's a game they've both become accustomed to playing these past few weeks, a heady, intoxicating game.
Rehearsal concluded, he's taken a perch on one of the benches to adjust his shoes when suddenly he has a lapful. Hands instinctively clasp her waist to hold her steady, thumb smoothing along the fabric of her rehearsal costume. Santiago looks up, a smirk playing on his lips as he takes in the sight before him, Nini straddling his lap with an amused expression on her own face. Content, he leans up.
"Mi amor," he murmurs, then presses their lips together, finally.

@c0mpositeur asked: you stepped in when you didn't need to. ( for santi )
"You want to fall over? You move your feet like that, that is how you fall over. On your face."
Let it not be said that Santiago was not somewhat of a demon of a choreographer. If Toulouse was pernickety about the script and the acting of their little theatrical revolution, then Santiago was doubly so about the dancing. He prowled amongst the lines, dark eyes missing nothing, correcting feet and arms and posture without missing a beat. He hadn't been going easy on the Rouge's own dancers, and nor was he going to go easy on Christian.
"Look," he began, pinching the bridge of his noise before moving to demonstrate, "You plant your feet, like this, see? None of the switching. And you keep your back straight. You are dancing, not curling up like a kicked puppy."
#answered#the way i'm pretty sure this prompt is more about stepping in in like...a tense moment but my brain went NOPE its choreo class xD#c0mpositeur#c: santiago diego romero ruiz#v: welcome to the moulin rouge

Though Santiago would never claim to know every working of his beloved's mind, he did like to think that by this point, he knew Nini relatively well. Knew for the most part when words were truly meant, and when they were simply intended to barb, or even to tease. Knew the little looks, the raise of an eyebrow, the twitch of a jaw muscle. He had long since committed her to memory, not that that prevented him from attempting to do so over and over any time she permitted him to. And while such tears were not something he was so familiar with when it came to her, anger, frustration? That he knew.
Which was why when she tried to pull herself out of his arms, Santiago held firm, ignoring the few tears that slipped down his own cheeks in favour of shaking his head, expression solemn but gentle nonetheless. "No. You're not." The Argentinian's tone was low, a tad shaky but still it held. "None of us are. Not at the moment." They would be, maybe, with enough time, but there wasn't a soul in the entire building who was entirely okay right now.
Brows furrowed, Santiago reached up to stop the aggressive wiping, squeezing her hands lightly between his own before pulling a small handkerchief from his pocket, delicately dabbing at her face, though it seemed to serve more to gently lift make up stains than to truly dry the flowing tears.
The tears of frustration ended morphing into tears of frustration , of anger . Both at herself and the diamond . She knew of course that there was nothing that could be done . The consumption was going to take her from them but now there was going to be more people that would get sick . " How could she . " She could still see Satine's smile , vibrant and full of life , could still here Satine's protests about wanting to stay for Christian's show . Nini should have fought her harder .
She had felt Santiago's arms around her , but didn't process it . The anger coursed through her like a wildfire , consuming any flicker of calm. Even as she openly sobbed into her hands that anger was burning in her chest . Tears of fury streamed down her face, mingling with the desperation clawing at her throat. Not only the affair but now the death , Nini knew the Moulin Rouge and everyone in it was doomed . Whether sickness would start to spread or the very real threat of unemployment . The kiss to her head brought her back and she attempted to pull herself out of Santiago's arms . That anger starting to cross over into actions . " Im fine , Santiago . " Tears openly fell down her cheeks , followed by aggressive wiping , trying to get herself to stop . Why cry over Satine ? The woman who had an affair that was going to ruin the rouge , the woman who potentially brought consumption into a place that was supposed to be safe from the outside dangers of the real world , the woman who was her best friend .

By some stroke of luck, nobody even turned their way as they weaved their way through the crowd, too absorbed in grief and despair to even notice the two leaving their midst and pacing through the hallways. He'd walked these halls countless times before, particularly in the last few months when he's had a more official place at the Rouge, but never before had they felt as long as this, like they were walking miles before finally coming to the dressing room that he was...considerably familiar with.
Santiago had never particularly enjoyed feeling helpless - not that he was sure anyone did - but he'd never felt it quite as strongly as he had now, watching Nini weep into her hands, frame hunched over in sorrow. It hit him like a ton of bricks, right in his chest, and in a flash he had the stupid coat discarded and was crossing the short distance to where she was sitting, dropping to his knees so that he could wrap his arms around her once more.
Tears of his own threatened to fall, but the Argentinian tried his hardest to blink them back. If there was ever a time when Nini needed him to be strong, it was right now when she was at her most vulnerable, so instead he pressed his lips to the crown of her head, thumb rubbing back and forth across the flesh of her shoulder in gentle, soothing motions.
In through the nose , out through the mouth . One . . . two . . . three . Nini kept repeating it silently to herself . God why didn't the star die in the damn hospital . Why did she have to collapse in front of everybody , to cause a whole scene in front of everybody . To die in front of everybody. Now everything was ruined in the worst possible way and her best friend was gone and she witnessed it . She had seen that final breath and there very concrete moment that Satine left them .
A few more times Nini had attempted to wipe away those liquid signs of weakness , of proof of her fragility , but every time more fell leaving dark streaks down her chin and cheeks . Santiago's presence provided comfort the way hers had him . The cologne , the sweat , the smoke that clung to every piece of fabric he wore . At least he was still there . Her Santiago . The man that was always there when she didn't want him to be now the only man to ever worm their way to Nini's heart .
Several more deep breath as she looked down for a moment before lifting her head up . It was all an act , of course , she just needed to get to her dressing room and then she could let it go . She lead the way . Walked around the crowd of people , around her coworkers , and through the halls . She paused at her dressing room door , pushing her door open and immediately sinking into her seat in front of that mirror and started to openly weep , head in her hands.

Santiago has always been drawn to Nini's confidence, from the first moment he'd met her. She's beautiful, and she knows it, and that is supremely attractive to him. Smirk plays on his own lips as they trail along her jawline, peppering little kisses and ever so light nips to her flesh there, arm strong around her waist. He doesn't think he's ever been happier than he has been since she'd deigned to give him her attention. A grunt escapes him as she pulls away, but her words make him snort softly, offering her an amused shrug, "Anton will have caught it. I was perhaps a little...distracted..."
His sweet compliments of her beauty came as no surprise to her . She had grown accustomed to it . He had been showering her with them since he crossed paths with her and every time it leaded with some smart remark from the blonde , this time was no different even as his lips found her jawline . " Mmm I know . " Words purred through a grin before she moved away from his lips and tilted his chin up to look up at her " You couldn't keep your eyes of me . You missed one of the flats messing up because you had looked over at me . " She critiqued with a challenging smirk .

Santiago's heart all but shattered at the sound of his love's sobs, at the revelation that apparently there had been plans for a hospital. He's no fool, he knows that consumption is not something one regularly just springs back from, particularly someone as ill as Satine had been, but a hospital at least might have provided some comfort. And yet, there's a part of him that can't help but think that, morbid as it might sound, maybe there was no more fitting place. To pass in your lover's arms, loved, in a place so much like home to you...it doesn't seem like the worst way to go. He doesn't think he would mind it.
But that's besides the point now. It doesn't change the fact that one of the most important people in their lives is gone, a star snuffed out far too soon, and the entire place is besides itself with grief. He can feel the way her fingers tighten on the costume jacket - green is not his colour - and how she aims to steady herself, breathing forced to regulate a little more even through the tears. Nini has always been so strong, for as long as he's known her, and even now, she carries on.
Nodding, the Argentinian drops his head to press a kiss to her hair, his arm tucking around her waist. He understands why she needs to leave, the urge to get out before anybody turns to her for anything. "Let's go, amor," he murmurs, dark eyes scanning the crowd and figuring the best route to get them back to her dressing room, where they can hide away at least for a little bit.
" She wasn't supposed to - she was supposed to make it through today . Harold was going to take her to hospital . " Her thoughts frantic , words broken up by hushed sobs . She knew Satine was sick , She knew they had a very , very limited time since they had been told . That night was supposed to be a happy beginning - a new show and a new years eve celebration .
Nini had always been in awe of Satine. From the first moment she had seen her perform , the world had seemed a little brighter ( despite Nini's raging jealousy ) , a little more magical . Satine’s voice was a siren’s call , her presence an intoxicating blend of grace and charisma. But that night she was weak , getting carried through the score until she finally collapsed in Christian's arms . The image played on repeat between the stinging of tears . Satine had been her oldest friend , the only person who knew her nearly as long was Anton but there was a good gap between when Satine had met nini and anton had met nini . Before the Rouge , before anything there was Satine . ⠀ ⠀
Fingers tighten around Santiago's jacket . Attempts being made to stop the crying , she needed to pull herself together to at least be able to make it to one of their dressing rooms , to be able to go home . She focused in on his heart , trying to time her breathing to the counts to focus on anything but grief . " We need to leave . " She whispered , voice already getting hoarse from the rough sobs . Before they started to move Satines body , before others started crowding looking for a pillar , she couldn't be that pillar . She needed to be far away from all of them where they couldn't find her , couldn't ask about it . " Now . " She mumbled as she wiped tears away with the heel of her palm .

The sweet scent of Nini's perfume combined with the feeling of her hand still holding to his forearm is enough to sooth the Argentinian, though the ire still bubbles a little under the surface. Still, he knows that she's right, knows that to provoke the Duke is a deadly move indeed and one he dare not risk, even despite his disdain for the man and his upset with the way he treats his friends. This, unfortunately, is an affair that they must ride out, and hope to God that it turns out. Even now they're all teetering on the edge, it's plain to see.
It is difficult. Part of him cannot blame Christian for going after the woman he loves. After all, he has done the same, has he not? And something in him knows that had he been in Christian's shoes, he likely would have jumped at the chance of even a hidden affair too. He has been lucky in that regard. But it does not change how dangerous this man is, and the danger that it's putting them all in. His arm tightens a little around her waist. "Toulouse has hardly been sleeping. I worry for him."
Nini had heard far to much about the duke . She had known far too many that had been destroyed by his far reaching grip . So many beautiful women destroyed because they ' betrayed ' him . She had watched the entire rehearsal disolve into chaos practically from the moment Satine had entered the room . The moment Christian went off script , even more noticably than he already had, her stomach drop . There was no good outcome to this , there was no recovering from this .
As predicted the rehearsal quickly fell to chaos . There was Satine and Christian in an argument , there was Toulouse and Andre fighting and then one thing followed another and Santiago was storming forward. Instinctivly she reached out , wrapping her hands around his forearm and planting her feet so he couldn't surge forward and cause any more problems . He turned and buried his face and a soft sigh left ruby painted lips . " I know Santiago . None of us do . Satine's caused herself and us all more trouble than its worth . " Her voice , a whisper . Her eyes cast onto Satine , onto the chaos of the scene in front of them .

She's a minx, teasing him with every glance, every posture, every step, and by god he loves her for it. Of course, two could play at that game, and he'd taken great amusement in staring at her across the room, letting his eyes linger, letting his hands linger in the sections where they danced together, brushing just a little closer than he should have. The tension between them is palpable, could be cut with a knife, and it makes his stomach twist in delight and anticipation for what occurs the moment the room empties.
Nini on his lap is a sight Santiago knows he'll never get tired of seeing, the greatest possible reward he could ever achieve, toned thighs bracketing his own, soft flesh beneath his finger tips as he lets one hand fall down to rest there. His name from her lips is just as glorious, a momentary precursor to the passionate kiss that they both so easily fall into. The hand on her waist easily tugs her closer, chest to chest, and for a moment they battle like this, before he pulls away just enough to trace kisses along her jaw line hungrily. "Mi amor...so beautiful..."
Stolen glances across a crowded room . Bending down a little deeper when tying her shoes , little shifts of her corset to keep him looking . Hips pressed against his the few chances they got to rehearse their dance sections together before moving onto the next , hands that linger just a second too long . It was a game she played during rehearsals. They kept their decorum , kept it so most people weren't clued into the game and relationship they had going . Hidden smirks when she catches him staring . It was all a fun little game , who would break first during a rehearsal and how long would it take ?
After the rehearsal though , the game dropped . Nini lingered , lit cigarette between scarlet lips as she waited for the other dancers to filter out . As soon as they all disappeared she made her way to straddle his lap , one hand on his shoulder the other holding her cigarette and resting on her thigh .
" Santiago - "
Name muttered like a soft curse against the tango dancer's lips before she kissed him with the burning passion that had been eating at her.

Having her in his arms is more of a relief than Santiago can put into words, confirmation that the woman he loves is alive and breathing, though whether all of that fear will ever now truly dissipate, he can't say. Strong arms wrap around her, holding her to his chest, and his head ducks to hide his face in her hair, the smell of her perfume arguably one of the most soothing scents he's ever encountered. He'd know that scent anywhere, and right now he practically wants to drown himself in it, shut out the rest of the world, shut out everything they've just encountered, and hide away from it, just the two of them. It's not going to happen, but it's a dream nonetheless.
He can count on one hand the number of occasions in which he's witnessed Nini cry. It's certainly not typical for her, not even when ill or in moments of injury. But this...this is a unique experience. To lose someone so close to you, someone who might as well be considered family? He had not been as close to Satine as her, but the grief is clenching at his own heart; he can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for her, to lose, for all intents and purposes, a sister. To him, it would be like losing Toulouse, and he knows all too well the panic he had felt at the beginning of the year when the artist's health had dipped. A period of convalescence had restored him to his usual self, but it had nonetheless terrified the Argentinean and forced him to confront thoughts he never would have wanted to.
One hand comes to rest on the back of his lover's head, turning his own just enough to press a kiss to her hair, seeking to provide whatever comfort he can, in truth as much for himself as it is for her. Tears of his own trickle down his cheeks, but he focuses instead on holding her close, his other hand rubbing soothing circles across her shoulderblades, his back turned to the crowd of people that he might provide her with a little bit of privacy within which to expel her grief. His love is a private person, he knows that, and he would not expose her in such a way.
She had to leave . She knew Satine was sick , she knew the diamond was dying but she didn't expect to have to witness it. She was supposed to finish the show , get help in the morning . If she had to die it was supposed to be in a hospital far, far away where Nini could shut that door on her life and block the emotion . But there lay her best friend , her sister , dead in Christian's arms as the composer wailed helplessly . There was nothing any of them could do and Nini knew that , she had to get away from everyone .
She stumbled back , as everyone started to gather she started to fly . Grief caught like a bubble in her throat , a strangled sob attempting to break free . Nini didn't cry in front of anybody . She had to find somewhere alone , she wouldn't make it to her dressing room , or the windmill , so she had to try and make it to some private corner . She tried to maintain her composure , but her breath trembled , her lip quivered as she tucked herself away into the most private corner she could find .
Body pressed against the wall , one palm against the wall the other clasped over her mouth . Don't draw attention . She didn't want the pity of her cast mates sympathy , they could deal with their grief just leave her out of it . Eyes shut to prevent those tears , shuttering sobs behind her cloved hand , body pressed in attempt to hide herself from being seen by anybody .
Except Santiago .
He had found her , he always did. Somehow no matter how much she tried to avoid him , he was always there . His arms thrown around her caught her off - guard but she realized who it was . She recognized the arms recognized the scent , recognized the feel . All semblance of holding herself together dropped . She buried her face in his coat , fingers grasping at the fabric and cried openly . The warmth and security of his embrace , combined with the vulnerability of grief , created a moment of unexpected intimacy. Her body trembling slightly as she tried to hold back the tears. The dancer had always prided herself on being able to keep her emotions in check , but for once in her life , she allowed herself to be vulnerable. The act of crying, so foreign to her, was both a release and a relief.

His love was at war with herself, it was clear for him to see, how she fought so hard to stop the tears but could not quite manage it. In as long as he'd known her, she'd rarely come across as anything other than strong, like a rock. But even a rock could be chipped away at, and something like this, the loss of someone so dear, was a huge chip. Especially for Nini, who had known her so much longer than almost any of them, save perhaps for Harold and Toulouse. To see her cry like this was enough to shatter Santiago's heart even more, mind already heavy with grief.
At her words, he did as he was told, dropping his hands back to his lap. There was no bite behind it, he knew, just pure unbridled grief, but he could not in good consciousness just leave her. So he sat back on his knees a little instead, close enough to be there for her, but providing that bit of space at the same time. What could he say that would provide any comfort? There was nothing, all he could do was merely offer her some silent support.
