MY WRESTLEMANIA 40 PREDICTIONS

Wrestlemania 40 starts tonight. Wish I was in the States right now 😭 I had to put in my 2 cents on how the show is going to go down.

This is my opinion and nothing more.

NIGHT ONE

Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch for the Women's World Title - I think someone else is dethroning Rhea. She’s way too popular right now too.

Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental Title - same as above. Someone more formidable is dethroning Gunther.

The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and Damian Priest) (c) vs. #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) vs. The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) vs. The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) vs. A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory and Grayson Waller) vs. New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate) in a Six-Pack Ladder match for the Undisputed WWE tag Team Titles - apparently the titles are getting split, so there’s that.

Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso - Jimmy has essentially been booked as a joke. He needs this win more than Jey does. Jey will be fine, but for some melodramatic reason I see Jey sacrificing himself for his big brother’s sake.

Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Naomi vs. Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Asuka, and Kairi Sane) - no brainer. WWE are not letting Jade lose her very first match.

Latino World Order (Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee) vs. Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio - Dragon Lee has been replaced by Andrade. The result won’t change because Carlito will turn on Rey for looking him over again.

Roman Reigns and The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth "Freakin'" Rollins - Why have another standard main event match when Bloodline Rules stipulation has been thrown out there? Also, Rock pins Cody. The storyline has focused much more on them and this heaps more adversity on Cody to win.

NIGHT TWO

Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre for the World Heavyweight Title - Seth’s done all he can do with his reign. Drew has earned a title win in front of fans. The Bloodline may cost Seth. No comment on that guest hypocrite commentator.

Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bayley for the WWE Women's Title - No brainer. Bayley gets her redemption story. Iyo has been good but her title reign has run its course.

Logan Paul (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens for the WWE United States Title - I honestly couldn’t choose, so I picked KO because I like him the best. The match will be fire though.

LA Knight vs. AJ Styles - I’m not very invested in this match. May the better white man win.

Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins vs. The Final Testament (Karrion Kross, Akam, and Rezar) in a Philadelphia Street Fight - I’m DEFINITELY not invested in this match. Get Bobby, Montez and Angelo out of this garbage feud, pronto!

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title - My Tribal Chief has had one of the greatest title reigns and orchestrated one of the most compelling storylines in pro wrestling history. He’s beaten the entire roster. It’s time to move the responsibility of ‘Face of the WWE’ to someone else. I like Cody. Wrestling with a torn pec for 30 mins earned my respect. I think he will do a great job of carrying the company and the matchups will be fresh. It will be Bloodline Rules to make way for all the overbooking that’s going to take place in this match. The Rock will turn on Roman to cost him the title and kick-start their feud for WM41.

UK actors are having a moment!

-Hero Fiennes Tiffin late of Guy Ritchie's THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE

is reporting back to Ritchie for the direct to series order for Amazon Prime's YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES.

Will Fiennes Tiffin's Holmes be the young version of Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes that Ritchie famously directed? By Ritchie's comments, I'm thinking the two are unrelated. "In ‘Young Sherlock’ we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” said Ritchie. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”

The Fiennes' family are no stranger to the Holmes universe. Hero's uncle Ralph Fiennes played Moriarty in the 2018 comedy HOLMES & WATSON starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

-Nicholas Galitzine has a hit Amazon film, hit songs on the chart, he's in FYC campaigns for both Amazon's RED WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE and Starz/Sky Atlantic's MARY & GEORGE and now he can put action hero under his belt. Galitzine has been tapped for the role they have seemingly been unable to give away - He-Man, Master of the Universe!

I know. Shocking.

It has been a hard road getting this property back into the live-action realm. Previously cast was Noah Centineo,

then bewildering Kyle Allen (WEST SIDE STORY, A HAUNTING IN VENICE)

and just slightly less bewildering Galitzine.

Thicc Nick. Get those muscles back up, Prince Adam, the People's Princess.

While the articles I've seen announcing Galitzine's casting say that the plot details are unknown, the film is still being directed by Travis Knight (BUMBLEBEE, KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS) and when he was announced as director the synopsis was: “10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”

Until then, you can see Galitzine in Variety's ACTORS ON ACTORS (in support of MARY & GEORGE) where he is paired with Leo Woodall, (ONE DAY) and who will be in the next BRIDGET JONES film, BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY.

Galitzine's RED, WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE costar Taylor Zakhar Perez will also be in ACTORS ON ACTORS and is paired with his friend and THE KISSING BOOTH costar Joey King (WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES).

For the purposes of this list and on this page, whenever I say “dark skinned,” I mean a traditional brown crayon or darker. I grew up around Black people, so the words “dark skinned” do not mean the same thing to me as it do to some nonblacks.

Eeeee, @hpcraftlove tagged me for the Getting to Know You thread! A lot of this will be obvious. :)

Going to tag @mysdrym and anyone who's interested!

Three ships: Renathal/Theotar (including various AU's--has anyone done a college or work AU?); The Countess/Theotar (they just *work*, silly extrovert party people); Bilbo/Thorin (which would be hilarious in a WoW setting). On a fourth note, it's completely self-interested, but I adore Renathal/Theotar/Gwennit, again because they work, and also because they're getting more and more fucked up. You seriously have no idea. I have, like, REAMS to post.

First ever ship: Nick/LaCroix from Forever Knight, 1996. Yeah, vampires are nothing new to my gothy little heart.

Last song I listened to: "Without You", by Ursine Vulpine. It's on my Gwennit list, and is a little too accurate. "I will burn the world without you", anyone?

Last movie I watched: I genuinely don't remember. The Changeling with George C. Scott, maybe?

Currently reading: "Spinning Silver", by Naomi Novik. Now I just need to find what the cat did with my book. (She hides things. And knocks stuff off tables. And is currently nomming her cute little paw.)

Currently watching: nothing, really. There's stuff I want to watch, but I too often just re-watch cartoons, like Futurama and Gumball.

Currently consuming: Ace Joker cider. Also, two Tylenol. My liver's not THAT important.

Currently craving: a threesome with Theotar and Renathal. I've been single too long. Send vampires or help.

Smackdown's key storylines are a) "WHO can stop Roman Reigns?", b) "WHO can stop the Usos?", and c) "WHEN will Sami Zayn's unlikely alliance with the Bloodline collapse?" None of these questions are likely to be answered before April, and I'm not even convinced they'll be blown off in 2023 at all.

So I could argue this roster isn't doing enough to set up strong babyfaces that can dethrone the heels, but it doesn't matter because WWE has settled into a very long-term formula. Arguing that Smackdown is overdoing the Bloodline would be futile; for better or worse, that's the brand now. It'd be like saying that AEW has too many little flippy guys, or that GCW needs to cut down on light tube spots.

Sending Kingston and Woods to NXT is clever, but it's a bit of a kludge for a systemic problem. WWE can't think of anything for a top tag team act to do except make a run for the tag title or break up. It makes no sense to split the New Day or book them against the Usos for the hundredth time. So the only idea they have is to put the New Day in the hunt for a different tag title. Which works for now, but eventually you have to come up with compelling non-title storylines for everybody that's not on top. WWE can do this with the men's singles division but it's still too lazy to do it up and down the tag team and women's divisions.

Liv Morgan & Tegan Nox

I'm not sure where the Smackdown women's division is headed right now, although it probably won't matter until after the Royal Rumble. Morgan and Nox have been established as a unit but they seem to be feuding with Xia Li, who cost them the tag title but doesn't have a partner yet. So maybe Morgan/Nox focuses on Li/???, or maybe Liv gets back in the hunt for Rousey's title and Nox vs. Li becomes a singles feud. It's pretty bad when your tag division is wavering between one and zero active teams.

Banks is reportedly a free agent starting January 1, although I don't think everyone will be convinced until she's actually off WWE's roster and appearing for other promotions. I would assume Naomi is in the same boat but nobody's reported anything on her status.

I don't think Charlotte has appeared for WWE at all since Rousey "broke" her wrist on May 8. I could see them saving her return for the Royal Rumble, but for all I know she could be unavailable for other, unreported reasons. We won't know anything for sure until she's back.

The last I heard on Big E is that the doctors want to wait until March 2023 to check how his neck is healing. That probably rules out a return to the ring at Wrestlemania in April.
