Ever since Leyla let slip that he was welcome anytime, he’d taken that as somewhat of a challenge, but who could blame him? The views from her place were far better than his. Penthouse privileges and all. That’s where he found himself tonight, out in her balcony and accepting the fact that the twinkling city lights were the closet thing to stars this city could offer. He’d been sitting here a while too, proven by the empty bottle in hand which he could move to get another one but it would break tranquility of simply staring off into the night and just letting his mind jump from thought to thought without sinking into anything concrete. It was a welcomed change than the overthinking that usually occurred these days. 

What broke his spacing out was the key turning and footsteps nearing. “Out here,” he yelled out to make himself known, but made no moves to leave or get up. “Can you grab another drink? Or two if you want one.”

“ You have no idea how glad I am to see you, ” Lorelai tells her best friend the moment the door opens. “ My roommate broke the lease and moved out with no notice, can you believe that ? ” One hand is still massaging her temple as she opens the door wider to let Leyla in. “ No chance I can still convince you to leave your own apartment building, right ? ”

“ This is entirely uncharacteristic of me to say, so take advantage while you can, but we might actually need an apartment group photo of tonight, ” she explains, twirling a glass of champagne as she gestures at Leyla with her free hand. “ Because we look fucking hot, and this rental goes back at midnight. ” Okay, that was a slight exaggeration, but tomorrow.
