🔪 Our muses choose and cut their own tree!
Christmas, her favorite time of the year. It was just the beginning of the month, and already the palace was filled with cheer. Karina had every pair of hands available making decorations, to be put up when they had the key ingredient–a Christmas tree. The long ride towards where they’d find their tree had been relatively quiet, given Karina had taken the time to rest. She’d made it a point of maintaining that they would both picking out the tree and cutting it down together, rather than sending a couple of guards out to fetch one: Christmas only really felt like Christmas when families did things together, and took the time to bond. Matthias was still too young, but surely by this time next year he’d be able to have some sort of say, unlike his father. Whether her surly husband cared for the holiday or not, at least he’d come with her and was playing along. When they got to the woods, another inevitable disagreement came about over which tree they’d choose–but this time it was Karina who had given in, considering she’d be the one to decorate it as she wished, anyway. The guards standing a few feet away, axe in hand, Karina worked on cutting down her side, while Alexandre worked on the opposite. He made more progress than she did, but nothing felt better than when the tree came tumbling down, and they stood side by side, watching it happen. “Aren’t you glad you can say you cut down a tree on your own?” Karina asked, turning to him as the guards strapped it in and began to pull it down the forest. Alexandre’s less than pleasant response did nothing but elicit a laugh. Karina stepped closer to him, tugging on his hair with a teasing smile. “I’ll make it up to you.”

🌁 Our muses play in the snow!
She could feel the cold through her gloves but she held fast to the snowballs in each of her hands, creeping as slowly as she could despite the crunching sound as she walked. The dignitary Alexandre was talking to had seen her first, and Karina wasted no time in aiming a carefully formed snowball at the back of Alexandre’s head before he could turn around. She erupted into laughter which evolved into a squeal when he,  he picked up snow and threw it at her. She threw her second snowball hitting him in the shoulder, picking up her skirts and running further into the courtyard with him hot on her trail. When she realized she couldn’t possibly outrun him, Karina held her hands up in surrender. “Okay okay you win–” She screamed as he grabbed her about the waist, tumbling them both into the ground. “Coold, cold cold col–get off!” She laughed, as they rolled in the snow, her vision blurry. When they came to a stop and he hovered above, her cheeks were mottled red from her laughter. She stared up at him as the falling snow settled in his curls, their breaths mingling. It was then that he kissed her, enough to warm her all the way down to her toes. Karina caved, letting herself be pulled close until they parted for air, their chests heaving. Grinning, her hand flew to her sides and she grabbed at the snow, throwing a few flecks in his face, while trying to dash out from under him. But Alexandre had another idea, his arms locking around her in a tight grip as he rolled them over once again, Karina’s protests and laughter lost in the winter air.

👕 One muse forces the other to wear ugly, matching christmas sweaters! (modern au)
Karina came bounding in with a giant box, left outside of their penthouse. “Look at what my aunt sent us!” Karina exclaimed, plopping on the couch beside him and placing the box on the coffee table. She opened it, pulling out two matching white thick sweaters, with little red reindeers all over them. “Oh, these are so cute!” Karina said, holding them up for Alexandre to see. The look on his face made her pause, her smile falling a little. “What’s wrong with it?” She asked, looking at the sweater again. It was adorable in her eyes. She loved Christmas sweaters, everything about the holiday she adored. But her husband didn’t seem to be too convinced. Honestly, she should’ve gotten him a grinch costume and it’d suit him perfectly. “We’re having a Christmas party tonight at her house, she probably wants us to go with them,” Karina said, giving him his sweater. “Put it on. And I don’t want to hear it,” she said, picking up the box and putting it by the door. “If I have to suffer through your intense video gaming nights, and your friends passed out on our couch eating all of our leftovers from Thanksgiving, you can wear one sweater for one day.” And that was that on that.

“Mine is prettier,” Karina said, casting a glance at Alexandre’s statue across the coffee table. It was looking a lot more elegant than the mess of colors on her own. She’d been so impatient to paint it, she hadn’t thought twice about what she wanted it to look like. Alexandre scoffed, still focused to the detail on his piece. Karina rolled her eyes, her gaze then falling on Matthias, seated in his basket on the couch beside them. Karina flashed him a smile, eliciting a squeal from the little cherub. At six months old, he was already so attune to each of their actions, crawling towards anything and everything that held his interest. She could already tell he would be a handful. “Pass me the red,” Karina said, tilting her chin to the little paint bucket beside Alexandre. When he refused, she frowned. “Pass it to me,” she pressed, before he refused once again. I’m using it. “You are not,” Karina argued, rising from her place and heading over to his side before he took the paint and moved it, protectively. “Give me the paint!” Karina said, running towards him as he stood, holding it above his head and out of her reach. “That is so--you are such a child!” Karina exclaimed, jumping in an effort to reach it as he laughed at her. Look who’s talking, you can’t even reach. Karina narrowed her eyes dangerously, a well planted stomp on his foot lowering the bucket just enough for her to grab it and run. She underestimate him however, all she did was yank it at the same time he did, the paint splattering all over her dress. Karina gasped, assessing the damage and the now ruined fabric. “This. Was. My. Favorite. Dress.” Karina grit, giving him a look that could kill. I’ll buy you a new one. Karina growled, grabbing a paintbrush and chasing him. “Uughh! I hate you Alexandre Garnier! Don’t you run away from me--Come back here!”

💤 for Karina
send 💤 for my muse to say something about yours in their sleep.
Karina’s eyes were alight as she moved about the room, taking her sweet time removing her clothing. Alexandre was already in bed, impatient, if the huffs coming from his corner were any indication. She still paid him no mind, her fingers loosening the strings of her corset with care. It was always fun to make him squirm, especially on nights like these when they only had each other to worry about. Matthias was in his nursery, having fallen asleep with no problem. She loved caring for her son, but the moments she had to unwind were what she savored most.
She heard Alexandre command her to come to bed already, eliciting a smile. “Don’t rush me, or I’ll take longer.” Karina warned, smirking at him through the mirror where he was watching her intently, already under the covers. Her dress fell to the floor with a thud. After donning her nightdress, even after being told she wouldn’t need it, Karina made it a point to walk towards her vanity and pretend she would sit and braid her hair, Alexandre’s exasperated groan bringing her to laugh. “I’m kidding!” She said, crawling over to him, planting a quick kiss on his lips. “You need to work on being more patient, all that frowning you do is going to make you uglier than you already are.” Karina slid under the covers, her head finding its place on his chest as she felt him pull her closer and deny her claim.
They rested comfortably, waiting for sleep to take them, talking about anything and everything. Karina felt infinitely more relaxed than she had in over a year, now that she knew the truth. Now that she knew where she stood, now that she knew he loved her. It was all she’d been waiting for ever since she realized she might love him in return. “How much do you love me, really?” She asked glancing up at him, her voice sounding slightly distant.  She smirked up at him, watching him visibly struggle with fluffing her ego or throwing a half-hearted insult her way. I love you so much, I will be there every time you open your eyes. She heard him say, his voice somewhat disembodied. She shifted, her eyes falling on their covers as she picked at the loose threads. She wouldn’t trade this moment for the world. How much do you love me? She heard him ask, each word sounding farther and farther away. Karina smiled. “I love you so much I could never forget you,” she admitted softly. She waited a beat, waiting as Alexandre fell silent. “What, no cocky comeback about being unforgettable?” Karina asked, smiling into the sheets.
Silence.
“Alexandre?”
Karina looked up for confirmation, her eyes widening as they fell on a deformed face, bashed in like the one in the casket, his body cold and still. Karina let out a blood-curdling scream, shooting up, her eyes wide and wild as she stared at his corpse. “Alexandre!” Karina screamed, terror seizing her heart as everything came rushing back. He was dead. Alexandre was dead. “No. No!” Karina cried, her vision blurring as she felt herself being pulled back.
“No!” Her voice ripped through her throat, louder this time as she shot out of bed, forcing herself out of the nightmare. She shook violently, her body covered in sweat, hair clinging to her forehead. Just then her guard rushed in, throwing the doors open with such a loud sound she jumped. Karina’s eyes snapped to him, terror-stricken as she gasped for breath.
