CHARACTER TRIVIA:

—The choices behind their name.

When doing the current redesign for Daithí I wanted him to fit in with the overall supernatural and fantasy elements of the story, so I knew I was aiming for a non-human route with him.

Aer already had a bunny/hare theme, so I looked for mythological creatures that would align with this and found the Púca; "the Irish Púca (spirit or ghost in Irish language) is a mythological creature capable of shape-shifting into different forms. They often take the appearance of numerous animals, such as horses, goats, cats, dogs, and hares. In some cases, it can also appear in a human form with animal features like ears or a tail." This was perfect as I like giving my non-human characters, mostly human forms, as well as their more monstorous/animal/creature like forms!

So after deciding on that, I scoured through Irish names and their meanings until I found Daithí. "Dáithí or Daithí (Irish pronunciation: [ˈd̪ˠaːhiː]; Old Irish: Dathí) is an Irish male given name which means swiftness or nimbleness," and this fit his character well. Aer last name Barlowe has the meanings, "bare hillside," or "barley hill," which fit with his original universe and how aer is the protector of this ancient willow ontol of a giant hill.

So that's how Daithí Barlowe came about, I also enjoy the contrast between having a pretty, airy name compared to his firey and prickly personality!
