4. For Byron, Jacob, and Niall
"Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?"
OH MAN
Byron: I think with Byron, as a teenager he witnessed one of the hotel employees getting fired, and their subsequent breakdown. I think that would have been the stone that started to shatter his assumptions about his parent's wealth and his role in the world. He began considering systemic inequity, and the dynamics of power have on real people's lives. I don't think he talks about it, because to weave it into his own narrative feels exploitive to him.
Jacob: This one is weird, because in some ways what Jacob witnessed was not 'real'. Since a grimalkin fed on him regularly as a child, he was plagued with terrible nightmares that bled into hallucinations. Jacob very much believes he has witnessed real, tangible evil out to get him (which... it sort've was), and relatedly, believes that God's power is real and tangible and protected him from it. Jacob has told a few people, but he sometimes feels that explaining this makes him sound mad, even to other clergy.
Niall: Birth of his first kid. It gave him a sense of purpose and fulfillment he never thought was possible. He'll tell anyone this, he's so proud of it.

question 29 for Byron
What did your character dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true?
HMM, I don't think Byron really found his life's purpose until he was a bit older and his values diverged from his parents in significant ways. As a child, I think he was more inclined to the arts- wanting to be a poet that would capture some sliver of the human experience. That dream didn't really come true, but that energy was redirected into trying to build a better experience for Ginterghasts. He still writes, trying to light up people's minds, but to the end of very specific political change, rather than more melodramatic teen angst.

20. In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?
Byron: He's very quick to point out how people contribute to harmful patterns, and he certainly does that to validate himself. He's not very prone to self-criticism, but he does admire other people or figures such as poets, philosophers and revolutionaries. At his most frustrated, he looks to them and feels like he isn't doing enough to change the world.
Jacob: Self-validation and self-criticism are what Jacob does in almost equal measure. For most of his life he was (relatively) free of troubles, and would often attribute that to his quality moral standing. If others were just less lazy, sinful, drunk, disorganized, ect, then they could be at 'peace' like him. However, he also compares himself to other clergy and saints, and constantly feels inadequacy. Others make it seem so effortless to maintain purity of character, and he feels like he struggles all of the time. Now that he's a Ginterghast, he's trying to compare himself to others, and to Charlotte to try and figure out what his future could look like.

~ CHARACTER WANTED ~
Looking for someone to play Lenore Locke (fc: Jaime Clayton), the wife of my househusband-turned-villain Byron Blacksmoke (fc. Jeffery Dean Morgan)! She’s a semi-retired celebrity monster hunter, clever alchelmist and badass trans woman.
The setting:
Wightwold is a vaguely 1700’s land of eerie, autumnal danger and superstition. Monsters called wights are hunted down by Witcher-like Ginterghasts, but they are faced with fear from the general populace for thier otherworldly powers.
The plots:
Lenore has been missing for several months and in that time Byron has been pushing his radical adgenda for Ginterghast rights and veering more darkly ambitious. Although Lenore wants Ginterghasts to be treated fairly, she doesn’t see Byron’s destructive tendancies as a means to that end. Think Magneto & Charles Xavier, but married. >:D
Because Lenore was a celebrity for years, there are lots of opportunities for cool backstory of past deeds. The years of practicing alchelmy have taken a toll on her health, but she can still fight monsters and collect spooky familiars!
There are a number of active characters that have established relationships with Lenore already and players that are eager to plot new ones! I’m very excited for juicy drama with Byron, but she has lots of potential to make her own path- after all, he was the househusband to her monster hunter for years.
The community:
I’m a consistant RPer who posts between a day or a week, I love drama as well as comedy, and I generally don’t take myself too seriously (comes with the territory of playing the heel!). DM me and we can figure out if we vibe!
Wightwold, the site is lgbtq friendly and has been active for over six months! Generally posts are a couple hundred words each, but there is no word count and we’re low pressure and supportive when it comes to activity. It’s on jcink premium and we’re basically a bunch of geezers that have been RPing on forums since the mid 2000s.
