All of your live blogs have been so entertaining to read haha
Honestly I've been taking mental notes whenever you talk about how story flows and themes etc etc, even more so with your recent reading through the book and how to utilize repetition and condense things
the thing about analyzing media is there’s a bunch of different layers you can engage in, like in terms of content/text and then in terms of the mechanics of rhetoric and language and structure, and it’s… really fun! breaking things down in terms of what works and why it works, for things you like and things you don’t like. actually if you’ve ever got the time or interest definitely look into mark forsyth’s elements of eloquence, it’s great and easy to read and really helps with getting into the mechanics of writing.
#ask#anonymous#I remember a while I go I was turning around in my head the idea of tension & contrast as the most important components of a story for me#with momentum as something that comes from the combo#but it’s been a while so I forgot most of it lol#also there was this GREAT#syllabus/intro for using punctuation in scientific writing (lol)#and I read if years ago but haven’t been able to find it since#but I LOVE how punctuation affects the rhythm and tone of writing#you can get SOOOOOO particular with writing#there’s also a lot of like#okay so to some extent if we’re looking at some parts of the book#by traditional romance format some scenes would probably be rec’d to cut or smth because it goes counter to standard structure#like it’d be a tighter story that would be a bit more cohesive#but sometimes it’s fun to read something that’s not as rigid yknow???#the kind of storh that comes across a little amateurish but it’s charming
