if there's a university near you, you can also check their community access policies. Community users may not have all the same privileges as students and faculty, like a cap on the number of books you can borrow at a time or restricted access to some of the tech, but if you're interested in specialized subject or looking for a piece of media that's too niche for your public library then please ask a university librarian!
“Books are too expensive” -> GET A LIBRARY CARD!!!
“E-books are too expensive” -> GET A LIBRARY CARD!!!
“Audiobooks are too expensive” -> GET A LIBRARY CARD!!!
“Video games are too expensive” -> GET A LIBRARY CARD!!!
“Subscriptions to magazines/newspapers are too expensive” -> GET A LIBRARY CARD!!!
For real, get a library card for your local public library and you will have almost unlimited access to all kinds of media for free. Libraries also often have many different kinds of classes you can take, often for free or very cheap. Oh, and don’t forget the computers and internet access you can also use for free.
In conclusion, yet a library card.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL PUBLIC LIBRARY!!!
#public/state universities especially. i don't have firsthand knowledge about the private ones#but yeah if you brought a photo id and proof of residency in our state then you could become a community user where i worked#there was a computer lab for community users that was way quieter than the public library computer areas ive been to#i think printing was the same price per page as it was for students#the community users were most of the ppl i saw reading the newspapers and magazines actually idk if most students knew where they were#by restricted tech access i mostly mean u had to be student or faculty to check out the laptops to take to study rooms#i guess that way they had ur diploma or employment to hold over u to keep u from trying to sneak the library laptops out of the building?
