Hi again sis Actually this is my second time to ask a question to you because I think you know a lot of info about Kimi Ni Todoke Hmmm I just want to ask you if you have any clip about any articles or interviews about Shiina Karuho?I just happen to saw an interview about the mangaka of Hirunaka No Ryuusei so I was assuming that there are also some about her since it's a famous manga Thanks a lot in advance

I did some searching and was only able to find one long interview with Karuho Shiina. I think it’s a few years old, and it’s in Japanese - it’s about 4 pages long and seems fairly in-depth: http://natalie.mu/comic/pp/shiinakaruho. Right now I’m translating Kimi ni Todoke Chapter 120, but I’ll take a stab at translating this interview soon so we can all see what she says!

I wouldn’t call it an interview because it’s just 5 short questions, but it’s still really cool to see what she has to say. And it’s in English!

I hope she’ll do another long interview when she’s finished with Kimi ni Todoke - I’d love to see her reflect on the story as a whole and discuss her thoughts about its conclusion. She’s devoted so much time and effort to this series, so I’d really enjoy learning more about her approach as an author / artist.

Ohayo Gozaimasu I'm just curious if you knew about the artwork of Saya I'm so happy that her artworks exists since she's drawing a lot of stuffs about KNT that you can't see in the manga It's just that the writings are in Japanese so I want to ask if ever you have any translations about her works?

Yes, I really love Saya’s artwork (especially her ayapin drawings)! She’s an incredibly talented artist, and her style is pretty close to Karuho Shiina’s, so it almost feels like you’re reading an official spin-off!

I haven’t done any translations of her work, but if there are any you’d like me to translate for you, you can just send me the picture(s) and I’ll do my best! :)

Hi I just discovered your blog recently since I'm really searching a lot about this series since I first watched the anime and now I'm also reading the manga but the sites I'm following have slow updates. Thank you so much for your updates. I'm actually a Sawa Kaze shipper though but I find Ayapin cute after that confession. I would just like to ask you if you know any social media account of Ms. Shiina and photo of her. I think she's just an awesome mangaka can't find any :(

Hi @iamyooinssi! Thank you so much for your kind message, and I’m really happy to hear that you’re enjoying the updates!! :)

Unfortunately, Karuho Shiina deleted her twitter account sometime around the start of this year. I think she was only posting every once and a while and said that although she really enjoyed interacting with her fans, she wanted to focus completely on the final arc of Kimi ni Todoke. I don’t know if this is permanent; she may return to twitter after the series is finished or she may have quit for good. :( 

It’s not much, but I did find a series of photos from her old twitter account. These pictures showcase her inking and coloring process when working on a manga volume cover (this one is for Volume 15, Ryu and Chizu). If you’re interested in how she does her work, I think you might like this!

I also don’t know for sure what she looks like. It seems like a lot of artists prefer to keep a low profile, only showing their faces at signing events and such so that they retain a degree of anonymity. This photo is the one that pops up the most in search results, but again, there’s no way to know for sure if it’s her or not. In my search I did find one Japanese fan who interacted with her at a book signing back in 2010; according to them, she was really pretty and young looking. They said she resembled the actress Mika Mifune, who looks like this. 

I’m sorry that I can’t be more of a help - I hope that one day she reactivates her twitter account so that we can see what she’s up to and support her! She really is an incredible mangaka, and her work on Kimi ni Todoke is so impressive (both the writing and the art). I’m not at all ready for this series to end, but I can’t wait to see what she creates next! :)
