This night was a particularly special one for me, if not life changing in it’s entirety. Palesa Buyeye, an old friend of mine from high school days. She asked me to help her out on a performance, that eventually turned into an evening of honest and genuine storytelling. 

The audience was minimal, but crucial. Friends from high school came, as well as a few others, so it was an even personal story being told to people who know me. 

Each of us told our brave stories and how we wound up where we are, in the process of healing and speaking about our depression onstage. Kuhle’s, Noluvuyo’s and Palesa’s were remarkably powerful.

On this very night, I admitted for the first time my two planned suicide attempts.it was oddly beautiful that for the first time I told my battle of mental health, it was on a stage. Guess I was born to be in the business. It was a hard story to tell, but afterwards, I never felt so light. It woke me up to the fact that many of my family and friends don’t know my story or my struggles, and that I should tell people of the emotions I’m feeling. Since then, I have made every effort to better my life and the circumstances I’ve been faced with. It feels like I’m finally breathing after a twelve year long depression. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but I’m doing what I can every day. Thank you Palesa. This evening changed my life.

The Eastern Cape Nelson Mandela Bay metro will be placed under administration. 

Cogta MEC Xolile Nqatha has alerted the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality of his intentions to invoke Section 139(1) of the Constitution. 

The metro has been without a mayor since December 2019. 

Eastern Cape Cogta MEC Xolile Nqatha has alerted the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality of his intentions to place it under administration. 

In doing so, he will invoke Section 139(1) of the Constitution. 

In a letter seen by News24, Nqatha said the decision was based on the persistent failure of the metro to fill the mayoral position which has been vacant for more than six months.

This after the UDM’s Mongameli Bobani was booted out through a vote of no confidence in December. He was removed after his alliance with the ANC and so-called Black Caucus fell apart. Bobani’s removal led to a vacuum in the metro, forcing the ANC to vote in his deputy, Thsonono Buyeye, as acting mayor.
