How to Choose the Perfect Jute Flatweave Rug For Your Living Room?
Are you looking to add a natural elegance to your living room? A jute flatweave rug might just be a perfect choice for you. With its earthy tones and durable texture, a jute flatweave rug can instantly transform your living space into a cozy and inviting haven. But how do you choose the perfect jute flatweave rug for your living room? With so many options available, buying jute flatweave rugs can feel overwhelming.
This guide will help you navigate the selection process and find the perfect jute rug to complement your living room.
Consider the size
The rug should ideally define the seating area, with the front legs of your furniture resting on it. For a visually balanced look, leave around 8-12 inches of exposed flooring around the rug’s perimeter.
Embrace the natural palette
Jute’s inherent beauty lies in its natural tones, ranging from light beige to warm brown. These neutral shades seamlessly blend with various color schemes, allowing your existing furniture and décor to take center stage.
Texture and functionality
Jute’s flatweave construction creates a low-profile rug that is easy to maintain and adds a touch of textural interest to your space. However, keep in mind that jute fiber can be slightly rough underfoot. Consider placing the rug in areas with moderate foot traffic, or layering it with a soft area rug for added comfort.
Durability
Living rooms are often high-traffic areas, so it’s crucial to select a jute rug that can withstand the wear and tear of daily use. Look for rugs with a tight weave and a thick pile, as these tend to be more durable and long-lasting.
By following these guidelines and exploring the options available at All Modern Rugs, you can find a jute flatweave rug that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your living room but also withstand the test of time.

5 Key Considerations for Purchasing Carpets and Rugs Online
Tumblr media
Transforming the interior of your home with carpets and rugs can add both comfort and style. Thanks to the rise of e-commerce, shopping for carpets and rugs online has become easier. However, it can be challenging to make the right choice since you cannot physically see the products. That's why it's essential to consider several factors before making a purchase. Below are five crucial considerations to help you buy the best carpets and rugs online:
Budget:
It is crucial to evaluate your budget before you start searching for carpets. Determine how much you are willing to spend and allocate the funds accordingly. Allocating more funds for high-traffic areas like stairs, halls, and landings where durable carpets are essential, is a wise decision. Less expensive carpets may suffice for areas with less foot traffic.
Tumblr media
Size and Shape:
It's essential to consider the shape and size of the area where you plan to put the carpet. Measure the area and determine the perfect shape and size for the space. Ensuring that you purchase a carpet with the appropriate size and shape is crucial.
Quality and Material:
It's important to choose high-quality carpets for high-traffic areas and less expensive ones for low-traffic areas. Carpets come in different materials like cotton, wool, and synthetic fibers. Select the right material that fits your preferences and the space where the carpet will be placed.
Design and Color:
Choosing the right design and color for your carpet can add an attractive touch to your home. Match the carpet to the theme of your home, including the color of walls, curtains, and other furnishings. When selecting the color, consider the amount of foot traffic in the area; choose darker colors for high-traffic areas and lighter colors for low-traffic areas.
Where to Buy:
When purchasing carpets and rugs online, you have many websites and platforms to choose from. However, not all platforms offer the same quality, pricing, and services. Research the best place to purchase carpets and rugs by comparing prices, checking customer reviews or testimonials, and verifying payment options, replacement policies, and delivery charges.
In conclusion, purchasing carpets and rugs online can be a convenient way to upgrade the look of your home. However, it's crucial to consider the above five factors to make an informed decision. These considerations will help you choose the best carpets and rugs that meet your needs and preferences while fitting your budget.

would love a list of low energy enrichment activities to try with cats. im always looking for more ways to be involved with my cat but she is 3 and very high energy and after a long day i often dont have the spoons to chase her around with a toy while she finds new exciting hiding spots to look at it from. this makes me sad :( i dont want her to be understimulated
Food-based enrichment:
Feeder toys are a favorite! But these carry the drawback of requiring cleaning afterwards, so calculate that into your spoons. Some of them are machine washable, so that may be an option if you've got a dishwasher.
Snuffle mats - another favorite, these also require the occasional clean but don't need to be cleaned every time you use them. You can make your own pretty easily. Or, hell, just grab a very cheap bath mat from a dollar store. Your cat won't know the difference.
Scatter feeding - literally just. Throw a handful of treats or kibble on the floor or down the stairs. Literally, that's it. Calculate clean-up into your spoons because cats aren't reliable vacuums. But it keeps them busy for a few minutes.
Toy based enrichment:
Get a cardboard box. Crinkle up some brown wrapping paper or whatever cheap paper you've got on hand and put it in the box. Congrats, you've now combined your cats two favorite things in the world: boxes and paper. For extra fun, add catnip (or silvervine or whatever your cat's drug of choice is), toys, or treats.
Ripple Rug: this is actually a specific product. It's literally a square of carpet or rug with velcro on the bottom that attaches to ANOTHER square of carpet or rug. It's fairly stiff. The idea is that cats can dive into it and make their own little tunnels. My cats LOVE it. You can probably recreate it quite cheaply using cheap rugs or carpet, tbh.
Cat crinkle mats: again, this is something fairly easily made at home. You get some cheap crinkly plastic and sew it into two old washclothes or something similar. Congrats. You now have a little mat your cats can sit on, bat around, and crinkle. You can also just buy them in multiple sizes. Many have catnip in them too.
Paper bags: cats just love paper bags. Be sure you remove the handles to make sure no one gets their head stuck. Most cats entertain themselves pretty well with bags.
Cat springs: those little plastic springs are a favorite, and so are those cheap rabbit-fur covered mouse toys.
Cat race track toys: another favorite.
Cardboard cat scratchers: the cardboard ones require MORE cleaning because they leave little bits of cardboard all over the place, but it is kind of nice that you can just throw them out when your cat is done. Any scratcher is good, though. I've listed cardboard for ease of clean-up and because it's a very popular material for cats.
Cat tunnels: like bags and boxes, cats just love tunnels.
I'm not a big fan of laser pointers or robotic toys. I haven't seen many cases of light chasing disorders in cats compared to dogs, but it's an issue enough that I don't readily recommend them. I also don't really recommend robotic toys because a lot of them make noises that cats don't like. If your cat enjoys these things, congrats; I just don't find them universally popular enough to really recommend. But I had to mention them, because if I didn't, my notes would be full of 'but what about Product X!!".
I've tried to keep this list to low cost toys and activities. There are other things you can do, like installing wall shelves or getting a big cat tree, but these things are more likely to be expensive, either in terms of money, time, or energy. I wanted to focus on low cost activities that I felt were more accessible to disabled folks.

A PSA Written While Taking a Break from Cleaning My Home (because I am old and my knees need a rest)
If there is one thing that being in my thirties has finally taught me, it's this: If there's something in your day-to-day life that you are really struggling with, some seemingly simple and obvious task that you feel stupid or incompetent for not being able to do like everybody else, that paralyzes you with shame, or that you feel the need to beat yourself up over to tough-love your way into accomplishing it...
...there's probably an obstacle between you and completing it, and a practical solution for that specific obstacle.
In other words, the solution to "I can't fix this problem" is absolutely never going to be "I need to verbally abuse myself into somehow being a better person with more energy/willpower/work ethic."
The solution is almost always going to be, "I need an accommodation that might look a little different from what I perceive as 'normal' but suits my needs just fine."
Because, first of all, and I say this with my whole chest as someone who works in the advertising industry: fuck normal. "Normal" is a lie sold to you by advertisers and Hollywood taste-makers (who are often also advertisers) and lifestyle influencers (who are definitely also advertisers). "Normal" standards for how you should look and how your house should be kept and everything else? Those are set by folks who want to sell you things, so throw those expectations right out the window.
Instead, ask yourself with 100% honesty: What is actually the thing holding me back here? Physically, practically, specifically, what is the actual thing that is stopping me from getting the result that I want?
Because once you dig down deep into it, sometimes the answer is way simpler than you think it is.
Sometimes it's "The cord to the steam mop isn't long enough" (you can buy a cordless one!)
Or "Trash keeps piling up on end tables" (your garbage cans probably aren't in the right place!)
Or "My counter tops are covered in clutter so I can't even clean the surface" (you could buy some cute containers to give all your clutter a home!)
You would be frankly astonished at just how many personal failings and character flaws can actually be overcome with 1.) devices made for making specific tasks easier 2.) decorative containers to stash stuff in 3.) better-quality products (that require less effort on your part)
And yeah, I 100% will acknowledge that sometimes your house (or whatever) gets super grimy because you're too depressed to deal with it, or because you can't afford the things that would make it easier to deal with.
But you know what? That's not your fault, either.
Why the hell are you judging yourself against a standard set by people who aren't (in that moment) paralyzed by mental illness or poverty? That's not very fair. You should be nicer to yourself.
And then, when you can tackle it again, you can start building things into your routine that will make your life easier. Like buying machine-washable slip-covers and rugs instead of stressing about how to shampoo furniture/carpets. Or watching a five minute YouTube video on how to clean out your dishwasher drain so your dishes get cleaned properly the first time instead of needing multiple runs through.
If something isn't working, you probably just need to learn how to fix it.
You've got this. I promise.
Now back to work for me.

Destiel Month, 7 Nov.: Decorate
"You're welcome," Dean said. Entirely too easy to smile at Cas these days. He kept catching himself doing it.
It kept…not feeling weird.
deancas ust, s9 au + human cas
Shout out and thank you to @clenster for a specific character beat in this one :)
Dean heaved his giant sack from Bullseye onto Cas's bed and grinned. "Check it out – we hit up the clearance aisle and found some good bargains." He felt like Santa bestowing gifts upon orphans as he started to unload his finds, the first of which were three green and white striped beach towels big enough even for his behemoth of a brother.
Cas said, "But those don't match."
"Don't match what?"
"The other towels." Cas's face was a masterpiece of confusion. "The other towels are pale yellow."
"So?"
"The other towels match the shower curtain."
"So?" Dean repeated as he sat down on the bed and snatched back the towel Cas was unfolding with such disdain.
"I thought the colors were all supposed to match." Cas sat too, looking contrite.
Now Dean's stomach cramped with the distinct feeling he'd just kicked a puppy for no good reason. "Who told you that stuff has to match?" he asked, attempting a non-threatening tone of voice.
"There were several magazines about home goods and interiors at the doctor's office last week." Cas began to take more things out of the giant sack. "The nurse who gave vaccines was running late, so I had time to read multiple articles. The houses in them were very, hmm, well coordinated."
"Well, yeah, but those houses are staged. Most people don't live like that – especially when it comes to bath towels, for pity's sake. Folks just buy whatever's on sale. Plus, we're hard on clothes and linens 'round here, so we're probably burning through towels more quickly than some would." Dean helped him unfurl a washable rag rug. "And look: this has all the colors in it. Matches everything."
"For the bathroom?"
"For in here, if you want it. These concrete floors are cold as fuck." Off of the return of Cas's confused eyebrows, Dean shook out the rug onto the floor up by his bedside table. "So when you first put your feet on the floor in the mornings, they don't freeze up completely while you're putting on socks or whatever."
"Oh." Cas toed the rug's fringed edge and smiled at him. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Dean said. Entirely too easy to smile at Cas these days. He kept catching himself doing it.
It kept…not feeling weird.
He looked at the rest of the items he'd bought while Sam had, arguably more responsibly, bought the bulk of the groceries and toilet paper. The clearance aisle had indeed been magnificent; the holidays were coming, and the store was apparently offloading anything that wasn't covered in holly berries or jingle bells. Dean wasn't an after-season kind of shopper under normal circumstances, or even an any time of year shopper most days of the week, but he'd been slightly like a man possessed in front of so many bins of discounted doodads and widgets.
Note to self, he thought: Investigate whether big box stores employ witchcraft to trick customers into buying more crap than they actually need.
Except – maybe he didn't need a five dollar lamp or a mirror with a classy fake copper frame for the low, low price of $9.99 or two dollars and nineteen cents' worth of tea lights that smelled like apple pie, but there was someone in the bunker who might, or who at least might like having them, need or not.
"Hey, so." Dean pushed the things into a pile. "This stuff was not expensive, and you don't have to take any of it if you don't want to, but um. You're welcome to any or all of it. The lamp would work over by the bed or on top of the chest of drawers. We could replace that plain old mirror over the sink with this oval one – it'd be a little nicer to look at, anyway." He walked over to hold the new mirror overtop the one on the wall in demonstration. "Fancy, huh?"
Cas looked almost shy when he asked, "You're not going to use these?"
"Nope. Yours for the taking."
"Well, I'll pay you back as soon as I can." Cas picked up the lamp and admired the turquoise glass of the base.
"Nah, don't worry about it. And we should see about picking you up a few more things. You could make a list. Lots of comforters and knicknacks out there to be had." Dean bounced a little on the balls of his feet.
"I'd like that." Cas glanced between the lamp and the mirror and the rug on the floor. "You did very well matching these for someone who wasn't even trying to."
Dean snorted, but weirdly, Cas was right. "It's probably 'cause I naturally have impeccable taste."
"Or maybe you were lucky." Cas's words had a bite his expression otherwise didn't, and once more Dean was smiling back before he could stop himself. "Thank you again."
"Sure." Dean started taking the tags off of the towels. "What else did you learn from those articles about decorating?"
He realized after about eight seconds that he didn't care that much about the answer; he just wanted to talk to his best friend in his best friend's bedroom in the home they shared.
Maybe tomorrow they could go shopping.
