"Ang pag-asa ng pag-asa ng bayan"
Child labor in the Philippines is continuously increasing because of poverty. Basides, The number of children in child labour has risen to 160 million worldwide – an increase of 8.4 million children in the last four years – with millions more at risk due to the impacts of COVID-19, according to a new report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UNICEF (10 june 2021). Without a doubt, Child labor may increase poverty and it may lead to generational poverty.
At 5 o'clock in the morning 10 years old Sugo is already awake, dressing up even though not having breakfast because he needs to work so that he can give a few coins for his parents to buy rice to cook.
"Eto po ang aming nakalakihan, para po makatulong sa aming mga magulang kaya po hindi kami makapag aral"
The eyes of the children are trying to say something and their mouths are voiceless because of their situation. Despite that they should be in four corners of a rectangle sitting comfortably with a person that is pouring knowledge that they should be having. But, where are they?, searching in the middle mountainous waste for bottle, containers, and anything that can be sold for them to gain money 100-200 minimum depends on the combined materials that they have collected
"Pagkatapos nyo mag benta ng mga nakalakal nyo, 'Ano ang gagawin nyo at saan nyo gagastusin?"
"Uuwi na po para ibigay kay nanay at tatay ang napag bilihan ng mga na kalakal namin."
"Saan nila gagastusin ang pinagbilhan?"
"Ibibili po ng bigas at ulam"
In fact because of waste scavengers like Sugo, waste in dumpsites are lessened because they are filtering the waste in a way that collects things that still have a value and can be recycled like plastic bottles, broken appliances, food waste, rags, metal and the like. However, to sum up the effects of this on their health, and future that can result in the repeated cycle of generational poverty, sad to think about. We have a saying that "kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan" ngunit bakit hindi muna natin bigyan ng "Pag asa ang kabataan."
